Will Robin et al ever actually finish the 300 abandoned gamemodes they implemented?

>300 abandoned gamemode

Most of the community have already accepted the fact that the 'TF team' won't be adding any serious updates into the game anymore. The last major update was 2 years and 3 months ago, it's safe to say that the game is in a near-death limbo state, kind of like L4D2 after the Cold Stream debacle.

I'm so frustrated by valve's complete retarded handling of tf2. It is one of their most well known and profitable games, yet it is left out in the wind. But don't worry, we have the staff and resources to make an ENTIRELY NEW GAME that is just a generic cardgame that flops in the first fucking month. What a fucking disgrace.

Yeah and how about Dota, their Dota-chess clone and CS:GOY? They're still getting new updates, with CS:GOY getting character cosmetic skins as the NEW! shit for people to spend their money on. All that 'news' just water under the bridge. L4D and TF2 getting the red-headed stepchild treatment.

I'm just gonna say sorry for Half-Life fans though, having their newest (spin-off) game being exclusive to VR. Which is an expensive gimmick compared to normal gaming peripherals

>L4D and TF2 getting the red-headed stepchild treatment

If anyone is curious how true this statement is:

>L4D2 has had gamebreaking bugs in several campaigns since fucking release

>even worse if you go to versus where you can pretty easily just jump out of the map on infected or teleport tanks around in some locations and totally break the game there are locations you can get smokers or boomers under the map so they can guarantee anyone who goes down dies (you can't pick somebody up if they're getting scratched, which you can do up through the map but you can't shoot down through it) and you can make an incap unclearable in the case of a smoker if the survivors can't shove them

>only updates it gets are fixes for server/client crashes, but it was although I'm not certain if it still is, it's been years possible to crash people's clients without anything more than knowing the right things to bind to a key or kick players on the other team by calling a kick vote while loading into a round

>TF2 is overrun by script kiddies spamming links to their dickscord to encourage the thousands of 12 year old children to install cheats because they keep getting shit on by people so much better than them in pubs

>can't even kick them, spectate them, or rely on admins on the server to do their job because the community is too retarded to use a server browser so valve gave them a shitty matchmaking system instead that more or less killed any community server outside of 24/7 hightower or 2fort, very rarely do those servers even run the vanilla game either, instead it's full of bullshit plugins and mods

>if you do find a server without cheating retards on it it will likely be a complete roll with the game over in 3 minutes or less since for some reason it's standard for the shitty matchmaking to sort groups of 6 players in a party onto one team and fill the other one with people who've played the game for 10 minutes since at this point those are usually the only two groups to exist, people who have never used a computer before and people who've been playing for years and joined a pubstomping teamstack group

>once this roll is over 50% of the time most of the players will leave since it scrambles the teams between rounds leading to either a totally dead server or one that will be dead for a few minutes before another group of 4-6 are sorted on to stack the teams to unplayable levels

>only updates to the game are to the localization files or adding in community created hats for valve to leech profit off of

It's worse on euro servers to the point of one in nearly every game but it's still quite present in at least east coast NA, everything from retards running catbots/multibox and derivatives to walls and crithacking. It's more present on some maps/gamemodes than others and at least some of it is probably euros leaking through the system onto east coast NA servers though.

I barely play the game anymore, but when I do, I only use the cheats to bypass Valve's shitty sv_pure 1 garbage and b-hop. Once I even counter cheated a hacker and got admin for it. Good times, those were.

The only thing I have in relation to the game now is random people adding me wanting my items or trying to get me onto a competitive team. Game's dead.

VAC has always been a pretty significant joke, but previously with community servers it was harder to see it because admins banning people from specific servers (along with a certain amount of shared banlists between servers for repeat offenders) put a bandaid on the problem. Combine that with a different environment where games themselves were longer, maps lasted longer before changing, and autobalance was more likely to happen as a result, people had more motivation to quickly identify and remove a cheater before it became a problem and less motivation to try to win a single round by taking advantage of them. In addition, you could more easily identify if the person was actually cheating because you could just go to spectate for a bit and look around, and while valve was never going to do fuck all about it you could pretty easily record a demo and show an admin even if none were around at the time. Server plugins for votekicks were also far, far better than the built in votekick system in several ways, often making it easier to identify a player rather than getting fucked by the cheater changing names to match other actual players on the server (using the console helps with this but the playerbase is retarded and gets it wrong as often as right). They also worked a much greater percentage of the time since the valve implemented version usually has workarounds like reconnecting before the kick goes through and the kick just gets you off the server and doesn't delay you from joining another game to fuck that one as well.

Reminder that valve was retarded enough to ship the matchmaking cancer without even enabling voting to kick players and when it initially came out your only options when a cheater joined were to fuck off and re-queue in the barely working system or to sit there and enjoy getting buttfucked by a spinbot.

This brings an interesting question. How would you fix Soldier/Demoman? Would he need to be nerfed or would everyone else need to be buffed?

I personally think damage should be scaled down a bit but I am also worried it might affect his utility, especially against Heavies and pocket medics. Perhaps a nerf to their excellent mobility might be more appropriate? Demoknights definitely need a buff if they're to be viable instead of just an idiotic (albeit fun) playstyle. It's best to think about balancing changes in terms of how it will affect every other class. The Scout vs Soldier/Demo matchup is the biggest problem since scouts are way too frail to survive a direct hit from a pipe bomb or rocket (and a hit from the Direct Hit or Loch n Load will definitely kill a scout even when fully healed - that's a problem which should be looked into) whereas a decent Pyro should be able to hold off a soldier/demoman at least, maybe not kill but hold off long enough for teammates to finish off. Heavies can tank up their damage enough and survive to kill them should they be accurate and well-positioned. Medics can survive at least 1.5 hits and has the mobility to evade, so they should be fine. Spies are weak but understandably so, don't think the matchup needs to change there - same for Snipers.

So the main problem is the scout matchup. I think this calls for the Scout to be given the option for resistance against Soldiers and Demos. You've already got this with the weapons which grant more jumps - staying off the ground will make it difficult for any soldier or demoman to hit you - or you could make a new weapon for him which passively grants explosion resistance at the cost of his secondary weapon slot, for instance. Without that secondary, the Scout can't do much from longer ranges and is almost entirely forced to short range effectiveness, but considering a scout's main enemy in this case is going to be soldiers and demomen, that should be fine

>They added in skins and crates which just fucked

Out of the things fucked with cosmetics really aren't that much of a major fuck up, with the exception of when they accidentally made it so you could equip two miniguns as the heavy because weapons didn't have equip regions which resulted in the buffalo steak exploit

Really the thing that really fucked tf2 was letting the CS:GO fuckers completely cripple userhosting.

A couple weapons and a few hats lasted a LOT longer when you had the fucktillion odd maps and modes to play with them.

>fix soldier / demoman

>buff demoknight

You can kill 2 birds with 1 stone with this just by buffing the shield's explosive resists. The Targe used to block up to 60% explosion damage, making them firing in point blank a hazard to the Demo / Soldier himself. After that, the booties should get a faster charge cooldown, and finally the swords should get a damage buff since it's quite idiotic to have a sword deal the same damage with a bottle (along with them having a slower draw speed for no reason as well).

Honestly i never really had a problem with demos or soldiers since their damage can be cockblocked by the Vaccinator. If you have a hard time against a Soldier and his medic gf buffing a Kritzkrieg up his ass, just switch to a Vaccinator and watch him rocket jump away to save his own skin. Too bad that it got nerfed since Valve is absolutely garbage at balancing. Still, the Vaccinator is excellent for skirmishes since you can pop ubers at will, and neutering their splash damage instantly, as well as the occasional random crits.

So i guess what you can say that you shouldn't nerf blast classes, but rather add more counterplay options. Kind of like with the Soldier's Battalion Backup vs Sentries.

>Scout matchup

I think a Scout vs Soldier match up is balanced. The scout could double jump on a high ground and pretty much keep airborne from splash damage. Scout is only disadvantage when the Soldier can reliably airshot or has a shotgun but that rarely happens. Meanwhile the Scout is THE counter for demos. The scout could easily run past / jump over the stickies and juking the demoman grenade shots. 2 meatshots and the demo is fucking dead, it's almost like pitting a sniper and a scout in close range.

Words cannot express how much I absolutely hate everything about hitreg in TF2. I have 3k hours that mean nothing because I cannot predict where

targets will be to actually hit them. Sometimes I have to lead my shots, other times it feels like I have to shoot their shadow, and any other time

requires pixel perfect accuracy when the server has random spread on. I constantly get killed around corners, and get countered by players who are

looking the opposite direction until I've already been hit with a killing blow. I hate playing soldier for how many times I've been behind a pyro

who does a complete 180 turn+airblast on a rocket before even I can see it. Whether their ping is good or bad, it never seems like I'm "in-sync"

with what's happening in the game.

Although I've recently been playing on a class wars server for something fresh, and it is the dumbest shit because it has the RTD plugin and players

pay for "VIP" which gives an 80% chance of a positive effect, which devastates the other team since VIPs also teamstack, so often times one team

gets forced to stay in spawn because of how many effects have AOE damage with huge range and reduce 2k+ hp to nothing in seconds. Here's a few:

>toxic, player effect, large AOE vertical and horizontal, can kill heavy in seconds and even boss transformations

>toxic fog, targetable AOE, does more damage than toxic and lasts longer, can be cast on an area from any distance, also bosses have 1k+ hp

>toxic fog also persists if the player who cast it dies, unlike toxic

>meem, player transforms into the flat wooden target prop, on E they do large damage in an AOE around player, only couple second cooldown

>ghost, player transforms into ghost from halloween maps, deals contact damage but hitboxes often go through walls, effective in area denial

>most transformations last a full minute and have 1k+ hp, I've seen up to 3 meems a ghost, and toxic stop players at spawn for a whole match

>nuke, player effect, when timer reaches zero the player will explode and take out everyone on other team within a large radius

then you have sniper, minigun, and laser sentries from RTD, you can place the sniper and minigun turrects outside boundaries in a lot of spots, they

have longer range than vanilla sentries and you can get more than 1, laser sentries are tiny and easy to hide in corners on ANY surface

>letting them backstab from virtually any angle since they bump into lagged out hitboxes and just have to stab at the air.

>I'd like to know why there even is such a setting

Alright this is going to be a long one, but it's also necessary because I see people spout shit like this all the time because they fail to understand basic mechanics of how an online game actually functions. When you take a step back and examine the concept this won't be too hard to understand but most people don't do this for whatever reason.

When you play any online game you need to form a connection between player A and player B, there are two typical ways this is done; Peer to peer (player A connected directly to player B) or server based (Player A and Player B are both independently connected to a server). Due to inconvenient things like relativity and the limits of light speed, as well as mechanical and computational limitations it's impossible for A and B to view exactly the same thing simultaneously from wherever they are on the planet, meaning there will always be some level of separation between them. Typically we see this most often as "ping", the time (in milliseconds) it takes for messages to be sent from client to server. Usually this latency is around 50ms, or 1/20th of a second, but can in some cases can still reasonably go up to around 100ms or 1/10th of a second of delay, this sounds small but it's easily perceptible to a human, as anyone who has ever done something "frame perfect" in a video game (usually precise to 1/30th or 1/60th of a second) or played a game on a server with 100 ping, there's a very noticeable delay in input and you will have some concept of how big this latency actually is and the effect it can have on gameplay. This becomes most pronounced of course in effect when you take a look at mechanics like a backstab or a headshot, when the position of a head or the direction a person is facing can change completely in very short periods of time.

In a game like TF2 you're obviously looking at a server based game, and in a server based game you need validation of what the clients see and send because they're always out of sync with the server, on top of that, an obvious avenue for cheating would be to manipulate packets sent to the server to contain information that isn't actually legitimate. As a result, the server has to verify to a degree everything the client sends it when it comes to positions, movements, inputs, etc. and then needs to send snapshots of the same information coming from all the other clients connected to the server. To do this it separates what's happening into "ticks", similar to a "frame" in other games in many ways. TF2's servers have a standard tickrate of 66, meaning they take 66 snapshots of what's going on every second and send that to the clients connected, but this is configurable using cl_updaterate and cl_cmdrate, which tell the server how many updates to send to you of where the other clients are and what they're doing, and how many ticks to send your information per second.

If, however, you only got a limited number of snapshots per second of what was going on, you would see very choppy results, you would see players snapping their view constantly, popping from one place to another if they moved very quickly, and so on. To avoid this they allow clients to predict and smooth what's going on between updates using a bit of buffer between what they're showing and the "live" game so that if, say, packets were dropped somewhere and you missed a few updates, it would smooth things between the updates you do get to give the illusion of smooth motion. This is interp, "interpolation".

There's a lot more to it than this, but I'll try to simplify it: The server maintains several snapshots of what's going on, not just one, stretching back long enough to account for various methods of lag compensation. When you send a message to the server, it accounts for these methods as best it can, and compares what you sent to the record it's keeping, verifying that a headshot, backstab, or other damaging effect would indeed be possible given the circumstances on the corresponding tick. When you "get backstabbed by simply stabbing the air" this in fact most likely did not happen, people do however sometimes look at the spy directly before they die from a backstab, why? Because shortly before you were looking away and when the spy stabbed and the server compared what your client sent, their client sent, and it's own view, adjusting for their ping, your ping… and so on, and found a backstab was indeed possible so it sends the message you got killed by a backstab to your client, ignoring any additional information sent on later ticks since you were already dead.

These mechanics can be abused in various ways, both by cheating using external programs to modify information (anti-backstab cheats that manipulate your view as well as anti-aim related ones, this is also why "silent aim" cheats exist if you know what that is, where aimlock adjustments are so fast lower tickrate spectator views don't show it) and in "legitimate" ways by simply adjusting configuration values are concerns, but if it's done "legitimately" it causes as many problems as it solves since if you're playing with extremely high interp it essentially means a buffer of up to half a second you're behind what's actually going on. It can cause confusion for other players though and lead to them opening themselves up for backstabs since the spy player is actually in a very different position that it looks like they are which is a legitimate problem.

In summary, a certain amount of interpolation is necessary for the game to not look like a choppy mess, and more is necessary if your connection is shit and you're dropping packets like spaghetti at your last family gathering. Setting cl_interp to 0 doesn't actually remove all interpolation, it just sets it to whatever minimum value the server will allow. This is usually preferable unless you live in some 3rd world shithole and your internet is trash, if so, bump it up a little bit. If you want to get a better look at this yourself, use the console again and type in net_graph 1 or 2 to see net related settings and information, 0 will disable it again afterward.

If you have problems with needing to type this shit in all the time, go to the game files and into tf -> custom, make a folder named whatever bullshit you want, then inside it make a folder named cfg (alternatively you can just go to tf -> cfg and make this same file, but keeping it in the supported custom shit lets you keep track of what you've done so you can remove it later if you need to) Create a plain text file named autoexec.cfg and add whatever commands you want run when the game starts and it will do it for you. You can redo this at any time while playing by typing "exec autoexec" into the console. You can make settings for different classes this way too (scout.cfg, pyro.cfg, heavyweapons.cfg, you get the picture, this is good if you want pyro's airblast bound to something else for some reason but you still want demo's sticky det bound to M2). Some of these commands are restricted in various ways, some can't be changed while connected to a server, some servers will enforce limits on extreme values, and some will be locked to certain values unless sv_cheats is set to 1.

If you're wondering why this level of customization should exist and why commands like this are necessary still, congratulations, you're part of the reason valve decided to default the settings to retarded shit to account for morons that would complain about things they don't understand when players seem to teleport around on their shitty internet and why they added matchmaking because people were too retarded to use a server browser. The default settings are shit but they're shit because they expect anyone who knows better to fix them themselves to proper values.

No I do not expect you to read "all that shit" as written by "me" but I still felt the need to answer the question for anyone who actually cares

>When you "get backstabbed by simply stabbing the air" this in fact most likely did not happen, people do however sometimes look at the spy directly before they die from a backstab, why? Because shortly before you were looking away and when the spy stabbed and the server compared what your client sent

This is hardly the cause for facebstabbing or air stabbing. Facestabbing is almost always perceived by both clients. It can't be equated to something like shooting someone who on their client was already behind the wall but on yours was still slightly in your line of sight. I constantly stab nothing but air or someones face and get backstabs I had no right getting. Backstabs have insane leeway mechanics that are purposefully implemented to make the class more playable and powerful, because otherwise hitting them would be too difficult to make it a viable class choice.

>This is hardly the cause for facebstabbing or air stabbing. Facestabbing is almost always perceived by both clients

Yes it is possible for both clients to see a "facestab" but quite rarely on the same specific stab. At the ends of the day the reason for "facestabs" is because on the server at the time the ticks came together, a stab was possible.

>Backstabs have insane leeway mechanics that are purposefully implemented to make the class more playable and powerful, because otherwise hitting them would be too difficult to make it a viable class choice.

Partially true but also false. The leeway on backstabs is actually quite large yes, which is another reason people claim "facestab" all the time. This is also because spy would be basically worthless if you made it significantly smaller since people could stand against walls and make him totally worthless (which they already can to an extent). The conditions for a backstab however do involve comparing the view of both players as well as their positions however and a backstab cannot occur unless the player is behind and facing in a similar direction to the player who got stabbed. Typically manipulating players to look in specific directions by taking advantage of the desync between clients and the server is also a common thing spies do, this is not limited to TF2 and is also not limited to spy in TF2, taking advantage of lag compensation is no different than taking advantage of shooting people's feet on soldier or using the delay between airblasts to reflect rockets being shot as fast as possible, it's using the mechanics of the game to your advantage as they exist, and many are designed intentionally to work that way for the sake of making classes viable or useful.

We're talking about a game (multiplayer networking system) designed to be played even over dialup. Hell the fucked up bullshit with spies is really only a thing since servers are no longer actively moderated.

On an unrelated note, is anyone else getting captchas longer than the actual text field?

I've been doing a lot better at Scout ever since I changed the way I aim, using my wrist less and focusing on lining up shots instead of flicking my aim everywhere like a 3 y/o with ADHD.

However, there's something glaring I never really noticed when I was bad at Scout. The hitreg is absolutely awful and very inconsistent with the scattergun. It's like I'm trying to fucking melee or something.

I usually get around 50-100 ping, and I don't know if that's a good or bad amount, but I often find myself in this situation:

>Attack enemy.

>Hit enemy a few times, I know they're low on health by now.

>Hit one last brutal meatshot, see blood decals pop up on enemy's model.

>It either doesn't register, or *maybe* does like 10 points of damage if I'm extremely lucky.

>Enemy hits me with point black attack/pulls a random bullshit crit out of their ass/enemy's teammate acts as a deus ex machina and saves them before I can shoot again.

>I die.

It's fucking annoying.

This sounds pretty autistic but it worked out well, so I might aswell blogpost about it

TF2 taught me a rather important thing about FPS games in general. Neither the console settings I actually never found out about the interp setting until last year nor good aim is really essential, if you simply learn to outsmart your enemies and predict what they do next you make up in almost every other area. At the pinnacle of my TF2 time before I quit, I commonly cleaned up on pubs & community servers alike as scout or spy just because I knew how the different players behaved and simply countered their specific playstyles while also acting almost unpredictable on my own. Players who can do the same to you are actually incredibly rare and most will always stick to their patterns like NPCs, unironically

For example those (usually lime coloured) scouts who would constantly zigzag in a way that made it seemingly impossible to hit them normally because of the shitty hitboxes, who also mopped the floor with your team for the same reason. After taking the shorter stick against those in the first 2-3 encounters I'd often get a good feeling in what exact moment they're going to switch directions and started firing where they would be in a short moment I'd also have to assume that they were a bit further than their playermodels because of the ping.

After matching up my target spots with their movements I'd easily win 4 of 5 future encounters just because I always knew where they'd be in a moment while moving so erratically on my own that they couldn't effectively counter it themselves.

If you learn to exploit several enemy players weaknesses & inability to adapt on their own you can take on or at the very least heavily delay multiple other players simultanously even if they're normally much more skilled than yourself.

That way you can also passively turn the tide as a spy without even killing many players. If you learn to use your cloak right you can easily coax multiple enemy players behind the frontline into wasting time to hunt you down. You might be be a useless spy when you barely get any kills for prioritising survival, but so are the 3-4 enemy players that waste precious minutes in spychecking their entire base while their team slowly loses ground on the front because they're simply underpopulated.

That's not how engine overhauls work anon

In the recent AMA the HL:A team did they mentioned that all the old tools are now incompatible with Source 2, meaning the core engine logic has been changed.

If we look at games like Fallout 4, even its maps and weapons load in Morrowind's old editing tools. That's because despite an engine upgrade in 2011, Gamebryo's backend wasn't changed much.

Considering this actually came during a pretty close timeframe to the meme card game and a general surge of activity, i'd argue HLA is just a sign that they're going to do games consistently for a bit.

Not an exception, but a sign of an era. Of course said era is just trying to reinvigorate some markets and stabilize a new one.

Valve never really made that many games anyway? They just hired people other peoples mods or a different company to do it nine times out of ten basically right after HL was a success anyway.

I'm still waiting for the 3 vr games they apparently teased years ago. as for the rest, iirc artifact was a pet project by gabe so you got people working on it to kiss his ass. it's true that valve simply likes to buy mod teams (which isn't a bad thing), but they care less and less about making games, and like I said even if they do their environment is utter poison for it

It wouldn't be a shock if such things got canned really, or are left in a unpresentable state currently with little work being put in.

Generally leaks come with something big, if the other projects are being actively worked on they'll show up again in some random updates codeor a game but same thing really.

Even Alyx was a pretty bland project for a while, it was only due to outside influence that it wasn't bland as shit; so i have to wonder if it wouldn't have been in limbo as well if it wasn't for that.

It technically still is a masterpiece, more because of how shitty every other team-classed shooter really is. Then again, TF2 stands on it's own league alone because of how good it is. Having almost 12 years under it's belt and still having a dedicated community playing it shows how good the game is. Not to mention how much of a cultural influence it had over the internet.

Picture a AAA dev torn between making a game that's long-lived enough that the kids he hasn't even conceived yet might grow up and play it, and being leaned on by management to have a game be just good enough to be obsolete in time for the game after it to come along. I don't think there was a point in my life where I was playing a multiplayer game and expected that more than ten years later the servers would still be running. Is this some kind of fantastic achievement, or have we hit a kind of sandpit of stagnation in multiplayer gaming? I mean, this isn't a few dorks who stand up an Action Quake server once a month. Lots of folks still play this. Then again, having said all that, I still haven't really come to grips with the fact that I haven't played a multiplayer FPS in over three years.

>cap mid at 12x rate (I know it caps at 3)

It doesn't actually, the payload cart maxes at 3x capture rate but control points don't, they just get diminishing returns with each additional player. 1x capture rate is the base at 100%, 2x actually caps at 150% of the normal rate, 3x is about 183%, 4x is 208% and so on, so a control point that takes 15 seconds to cap with one player would be capped in 10 seconds by a single scout.

If you're wondering where these numbers come from, it works like this:

1x capture = 1

2x = 1 + 1/2

3x = 1 + 1/2 + 1/3

So a 12x rate would actually be around 310% rate of capture.

>wait until you see that occasionally someone will hack the chat on all servers so that nobody can send messages but it keeps spamming a preset phrase whenever you join a game

What they're doing is setting up a script to spam the chat with a long series of empty messages, causing the window to show nothing but what's at the end of the message, sometimes it's blank, sometimes it just calls everyone on the server a faggot. This is done to make it more difficult to communicate and kick the cheater and to generally be a cunt and annoy people but also reveals them if you're smart enough to just open the chat window and scroll up until you see their name. Muting the player through the ingame menu will also remove this chat spam if you want to get rid of it.

It lets them keep their mobility, ensures they are great at attacking corners and weird angles (even more so with higher splash damage) and puts them squarely in the niche they should have always been, good against players grouped together, without having to compete with single target burst damage (Scout, Sniper, Spy) since that wouldn't be their role anymore.

Or to put it with some dumb math, if a Scout and a Soldier shoot someone at point blank with their main weapon, the Scout should do around twice as much damage as the Soldier does.

But because of the blast damage, if there's 2 targets, the Soldier does just as much damage and if there's 3, he out-damages the Scout.

So if you want to take on a single target, Sniper, Scout or Spy are the best options. But if you want to damage a Medic\Heavy or a Sniper Nest or keep pressure on a control point, blast damage is what you need.

They also make those 2 classes far more noob friendly (another intended function for the jack of all trades classes) by making it easier to contribute to the game without exposing yourself too much or getting kills by sheer luck.

Yeah I've encountered the preachbot guy. Seems like he has a dozen or so accounts running. Also some medic heal bots called andrey. The game is in such a sorry state, bots every match, if someone isn't outright cheating they turn on their cheats the second you get a couple headshots on them (always a tranny weeb larping as a girl of course). Competitive scene completely dead, hit reg is a fucking mess. Hard to keep playing no matter how fun it can be at times.

That's what happens when the developers abandon a game for a shitty VR Prequel of HL 1.5 that nobody asked and refusing to update that outdated shitty anti-cheating engine called VAC as time has shown how outdated it is as technology grows and find easier ways to get around it. At this point they do it on purpose as they won't do shit about it unless it hurts them financially like the great crate depression of last year where everyone was getting unusuals for free from a specific crate.

Literally none of that has to do with why there are so many more cheaters now compared to earlier in tf2's lifespan

Play the game on PS3/X360. It's literally the only way to play the game online without any of the major updates. Good ol' vanilla 2007 TF2, as the original TF team intended. Yes, there are still people playing this game on console, and they like it precisely for that reason.

We're talking a phlog pyro waddling slowly towards your team, honestly doubting he'd have the sense to

1. Put himself in front of the stickies before they detonate

2. Not touch W or S killing any and all redirectible momentum from the stickies

3. Still be ubered when he lands

This is probably the most depressing thing I've ever seen. I came back to this game, not expecting it to be like the old days were half the server has a mic, but at least expecting the community to have at least a drop of it's old blood in it. Now every single fucking server is full of mutes.

>Valve wanted to appease anyone in their audience

All their decisions are pure greed. Just like how they sold out their art style to bronies and furries. They wanted to shove the e-sports shit into the game so they could have another CS:GO/DotA 2 cash cow, but when it wasn't working they didn't even have the decency to fix the mess they made. They just left the broken pieces were they where. I suspect they even pulled out of the Adult Swim TF2 series because they realized e-sports TF2 wasn't going to be viable. Then they tried to create another cashcow with 2 cashgrab attempts, Artifact and Underlords. Even their newest game, HL: Alyx, is a product of greed. They see all the people getting hyped for VR and are afraid of Steam losing ground over it. This isn't even over whether or not VR is viable for games. They simply know the lemmings are running at VR and don't care if it's off a cliff or not.

As a company full of millionaires Valve might actually be greedier than EA, however they are way more competent and manipulative.

This.

Just a reminder that Valve literally invented both lootboxes (TF2) and the battlepass (CS:GO), but no one else used them for a while because Valve is a private company so the astronomical amount of money they made from it was a company secret.

Once Blizzard and Epic Games tried the same manipulative tactics, everyone saw for themselves how much ez money they could get from this which is why we are where we are today. (See: EA Battlefront II)

To be completely fair Valve’s lootbox system is still the least manipulative/greedy of the bunch just from the fact you can freely trade your prizes with other users or even sell it for real money on third party sites. Also no Pay 2 Win bullshit.

Not true, lootboxes first came from Korean games a good few years before TF2.
