>“We had the discussion years ago ‘do we want to go do another generation?’ Yes, and do we think there will be multiple generations ahead of us? I actually think there probably is. So we’re going all in. We’re all-in on Project Scarlett [Xbox Series X] and I want to compete, and I want to compete in the right ways which is why we’re focused on cross-play and backward compatibility.”
>“First of all, Sony’s done a fantastic job just across the board in terms of what they’ve done with building an audience, selling consoles, obviously, a number of amazing, great games that have come out of their first party teams. I try to stay away from framing things as a head-to-head bout with Sony, instead I think that it’s just up to us to focus on three things. First of all, we need to deliver on the promises that we make. So if we say a game is going to ship at a certain time, we’ve got to get that done, we just need to get better at executing
>We need to make sure that we hold the bar high on quality, and that we’re releasing games that we can be proud of and that the fans can be proud of as Xbox exclusives.
>And then lastly, we need to continue building characters, stories and worlds that can transcend generations, devices and platforms. You know, if you look into things like the Marvel characters or Lord of the Rings, when those Marvel characters were first invented in the 1960s, nobody knew that there was going to be a thing called Netflix
>But yet, here we are. And, you know, the Marvel library figures heavily into video streaming. And so I think we are lucky to have worlds and universes like Halo, where there’s characters that can support TV series, books, comic books and all kinds of games.”
Then what is Microsoft trying to compete with?
It's about time Microsoft to admit they're dropping out of the console race.

Y'know it kinda drives me nuts how the least shit part of microsoft is the games part of it.
Don't get me wrong, they do suck quite a bit at getting their studios that need to be leashed 343 Studios, but at the same time I feel like some of the decisions they make are from noxious influence from the windows devision MCC PC adding Easy Anti Cheat about a week from launch literally only to break linux support because whoopsy proton worked and we can't actually tell people they can't use it on steam.

PC and mobile, all these consoles are competing with PC and mobile
Their whole combined market is the same size as the PC market and the mobile market is bigger than both PC and consoles combined
Also, Soyny won't be on E3 and 2020 is looking great for games

Phil and Matt are completely right though. Just how Nintendo is ignoring everyone else and doing its own thing, Xbox is doing the same and they're in a far better position than Sony could ever hope to be.
They've got Xbox, Windows/Steam, and soon with XCloud, they'll have streaming down too for mobile and tablet. At that point it's not about getting into a pissing match with Sony about who sold the most consoles, but instead making games that people can buy/play on their preferred platform.
It makes more sense to sell your games to the widest audience possible, instead of having them restricted to a $500 box that someone might not want, afford, or care about. Xbox can see that it's far easier to make more money when your potential player base is in some shape or form always exposed to your product without having to do anything extra.

That is big savings and will quickly increase productivity and lifestyle satisfaction, covering the 2000 dollars within six months, providing you do not get any speeding tickets or lawsuits. Great. I'm so excited for Halo to get properly fucked with a dildo wrapped in razor wire. Was it really worth Blockamp running off with the money to make District 9 now? At least we had a shot to get a poz free movie a decade ago.

I mean, shit, is it not enough to have a literal fucking magical immortal black man in your series who plays a prominent role through all of it? A dude so ridiculously overpowered that the developer had to kill him with a superlaser in the last chronologically meaningful title?

Yeah but if they acknowledged one of the most major of characters of the Halo series was a black man they wouldn't really be able to get away with the "Waaah Gaymers are Rayciss" bullshit.
Nevermind the actual implications of why a Space Age humanity renders the whole argument of race retarded in the first place.

Genes don't stop mattering, but it is in the far future so they could make excuses if they wanted to address it. Maybe every group's baseline general intelligence is higher by that point, due to scientific advancement in the field and using it on everyone. We never see an aussie abo so they're probably wiped out.

Halo takes place in a universe where we have people living on planets where cryosleep is necessary to travel to. Literally, one of the core points of the series is forced gene and neurological augmentation.
You can grab goop off nigh any street corner that can heal cell damage from plasmas.
If anything at that point, the difference between a lifetime Reach and Earth resident would be more significant than the genetic differences between two single continents on a single planet.

I need to reread the books, but wasn't there a rebellion take place where some of the colonies had enough of the UNSC's bullshit, which resulted in the military rocketing the Spartan 2 program to the top of their priority list as a weapon to use in the field; with that civil war being placed on hold the moment the Covenant attacked?

The Spartan II program was started to create a military force to quell the growing separatists moment.
The plan was for the Spartan II's to kill humans, not aliens.
Humanity just lucked out that there happened to be an alien invasion that could only be stopped by people with that kind of training.
