Decided to fire up Wheelman, and I'm having a lot of fun with it. It's cheezy with everything about it, but (Graphics aside, which still look good all things considered) it seems to be better made than more of the games I keep seeing and hearing about being made for 8th gen systems. And, this is a game that was made on a timeline because this was Midway's last game to come out before WB owned the company.
And, this is a sandbox game, too.
The only real "bug" I know about is that you can glitch into areas that you shouldn't be allowed to yet (Because you haven't progressed that far in the story), and the PC port is perhaps one of the most "bare bones" ports I know about, but it's a very solid game.

I forgot to mention, I even having fun just shooting the cars and watching them fall apart. That's something that even Watch_Dogs (The most recent sandbox that I have played, and released about five years later) failed at unless you caused a massive traffic jam (Which is hard to do since that game will automatically disappear the vehicles from the road if they leave the player's site and there are "too many" of them in the area, meanwhile Wheelman will still leave the vehicles there even if they're a couple blocks away and damaged/destroyed) and decide to blow them all up with IEDs.

HL2 wasn't even meant to have an Xbox port. Valve was meant to make an entirely original game for Microsoft with a bunch of ex-Sega devs, but for a reason I'm not familiar with Gabe Newell fired all the Sega guys and scrapped the project. The Xbox port was a compromise they made.
That said, the Xbox port still looks much better than the average console game at that time.

It's why stuff like Sekiro and Kingdom Come run like shit on consoles while most AAAs have decent performance across the board.

Modern game development is built upon laziness. There are some interesting reports about the last Mass Effect and how they spent literal years fucking around with experimental tech to try and built planets faster. By the time they realized how much effort was put into it, they only had 18 months or so to finish the game, which resulted in the disaster we're all familiar with.
Ironically, the desire to streamline the process actually ended up wasting far more time than it saved. That's how lazy nudevs are, they'll blow through all of their development time if they think it'll lead to them not having to work as hard.

I'm sure just about every Dev team from the past knew the limitations of the hardware they were working with, so in order for any of them to be successful, and for people to want to buy them. If you're talking about current AAA games, I'd say because none of them remotely give a shit and are expecting the games to sell on the marketing trailers production quality, brand recognition and whatever brand of spite marketing they decide to use.
If you're talking about indies, some of them are amateurs(Take Proxy Blade Zero for example, an entertaining but very barebones game), some of them are jews(Take Katana Zero, a game that's been in development for at least 3 years and somehow came out incredibly short and sporting a "to be continued next game :))))))" cliffhanger) and some of them do not give a shit(ashen I guess because I remembered that game for some reason and I really hated it).
It's not like there aren't any good games being made but with very few exceptions the good games seem to be "good enough", barely surpassing or even being equal to older games.(An example of this rule in my opinion would be Ion Fury which was utter meh especially when you compare it to Douk or Blood, and an exception would be Overload which I felt really captured why I loved Descent and went above and beyond the call of duty when making a successor please god let Aquanox Deep Descent just as be good)

I can make an arguement for something graphics-wise. Despite being a really below average game, with a mediocre plot, piss easy gameplay, an overused mechanic and the biggest joke of a DLC collection to the point of feeling ripped off despite pirating the game is Arkham Knight. There are so many neat details and easter eggs(like how once you get Joker a fair bit of gotham's landmarks start changing to reference Joker or Batman for an instant then changing back once you look away and look again) and the game itself looks pretty gorgeous especially with the rain effects and lighting(5:20 in embed)

I'm mostly interested in why new games look so fucking ugly. Horrible rendering distance before objects and textures start looking 2D or potato-res, grass disappears 10 meters away from the player, texture filtering feels like it's non-existent, character clothes, armor and skin look like bland oily clay, every item is static including chairs, cardboard boxes, tires and other debris, fires look 2D and low-res, water reflections disappear at ~20 meters, or they look blurry as fuck, mirrors don't work, there's fog at 100 meters, the lighting and colors are washed-out, AI appears robotic, corpses don't have physics, bullet cartridges are just a fake 2D effect and not actual object with physics, etc.
Like, what the fuck happened? Pic related a good example of horrible textures, horrible shadows, horrible render distance, oily plastic clothes/skin and washed-out colors and lighting.

The main difference is in project goals and target demographics. Back in the 00's, developers still cared about making a well-coded and balanced game that would be fun to play and hold up. Over the past decade gaming has become much more mainstream, which directly encourages publishers to focus on advertising and draw in as large a crowd as possible for a bigger return. The Vidya audience has become less knowledgeable regarding a good product (just like most other markets today, but I digress) and that just encourages more of the same from publishers. Also there's way more liberal faggots in the industry so there's an imbalance of quality coding and design vs shitty art and social degrees.

I think it is possible to pay, in cash, for pre-paid credit cards. Also, there are some devs who do have their own payment processors, but the number that do that (Outside of Japan) I think I can count on one hand.

And, who knows what things will be like when you're finally in that situation.

It's almost universally know that just about every lottery winner ends up in a much worse financial situation in less than a year later after winning. So, "instant money" isn't the answer. Then, you also have all those fags are on the same level as baizuo (Which you brought up), about how their hoping to bring down the current Jewish order, and establish their own "perfect" order, but they forget the fact that you're just trading one faggy ruler for another with not a damn thing changing (AT BEST, which is a fucking miracle because I CANNOT think of a single regime change in history that benefited the whole of society, unless you've been smoking too much of the propaganda put out). THEN, there's also the fags that think, "If we could just get everyone to switch over to… [Inconvenient system]…because…[Current system is trash, but convenient]," without ever getting it through their thick skulls that normalfags follow the path of least resistance for a reason. Over time, we lost the CAPTCHA battle, LaTeX was stripped out, re-added temporarily, and then removed again, and swf was disabled after the Imgur vulnerability was discovered. The biggest casualty, of course, was Hotwheels resigning, but his interest in 8chan died many months before.
The truth is we need someone to fellate because they are the spiritual nexus of an imageboard, and regardless of how people view him now, Hotwheels had that magic briefly. It's not to say that communities will die instantly because we had a few community projects that have kept things together, but it's a whole lot harder. Mark would've made a great admin if he wasn't a fucking idiot. He has absolutely no technical experience and his moderation is, in polite terms, questionable, but he's been remarkably consistent for six years now and that baffles me. Unfortunately, consistency and intelligence seem to be mutually exclusive.

I sort of get what you're saying.
