What the fuck is this shit?

This is the shit that happens when a single entity becomes the go-to provider to satisfy a large demand. I will never hand over my shekels to these merchants.

Modder donations are cancer and anyone arguing otherwise is suffering from terminal brain damage. The most popular mods end up being collaborations, packs, or built with assets and techniques yanked from other mods. The people who ACTUALLY pioneered that content never see a goddamn cent of it.
Hell, look at the constant slav-drama that is OpenXcom.
>Most popular mod is XPiratez
>Pan handles for donations
>Almost all of the content is directly ripped from other games or taken from other mods

>Given the option of not getting his ~$5 monthly donations, XPiratez 'creator' tells the guy to fuck off and encourages more assholery
Mod donations are for fools. It works out for nobody involved and attracts everybody who insists it's the answer to combating paid mods. Too many people refuse to admit both are shit because they are convinced that you have to pick between one of them.

I don't like it either, but you faggots are slow on the ball. It's been there since at least 2009. It's to "support the site". Probably because they know most people use ad blockers, and knew so even back then. Bandwidth and storage aren't cheap, but I don't know how much it actually costs them. Keeping the costs opaque makes it easier to guilt trip/beg for more donations if they "need" it. However, they do give reasons for what they do: http://archive.ph/2CHA0
Also, having to wait 5 seconds for a download has been there for a long time, too. Years now, but I've been using their mod manager to download mods instead (letting it do its thing while I go do whatever the fuck). While it's kind of obtuse to think about: transactions are agreements and presentation of terms that modify what was agreed to in the transaction, eg "Oh hey by the by when we told you we sold you x we didn't actually sell you x, and you agreed to this contract that was not presented to you in the previous transaction" thereby violating the terms of the initial transaction which necessarily renders the second agreement void as it violates the terms of the transactional agreement. This has mostly floated by on civil grounds as terms commonly placed in these agreements are not legally enforcible by a federal or state entity, however, it is very quickly wearing out it's ability to coast on that and it's being reflected by a lot of these pieces of software transitioning into actual services with clearly defined parameters and why shit like Adobe is DESPERATELY trying to bury their old software catalog.

It's more of a weird situation since technically it's beyond the scope of Valve to dictate agreements between you hand the developer of the software as a market entity.
More that they have the authority to terminate their services to you, than an agreement you have with the company that sold their software to you through them.
Ex: you can't use steam to download your games AGAIN but any you had already downloaded it's technically not up to them on whether you continue to use them or not.

>m-muh licensing
say (((just licensed not sold))) as much as you like, but it won't change the fact that it's a sale (of a copy, not the copyright of the software). publishers don't have the right to break into your home and confiscate your discs/hard drives. And if you want to get technical, games are just sequences of 1's and 0's and as you probably know, numbers don't have owners.
>it's only a fucking serial code
no it's not. they give you the game assets and related data. you don't need any license to use software.
>allow you to play if you follow certain terms.
that would apply to services (e.g. PSN, XBL, Steam), which is why games are incresaingly being turned into services (a la ASSFAGGOTS, or into SaaSS), so that they can control everything and strip access to your games scot-free.
>>16802542
Don't mix contracts (e.g. EULAs) and software licenses (e.g. BSD, MIT, GPL). Lawyers scumbags treat both terms as synonymous which pisses me off to no end.
Licenses are basically permission; a rightsholder granting you the ability to do something that's normally forbidden by copyright law (e.g. distribution, reproduction, modification). You can use software without a license (copyright doesn't cover use of media/software). This is why you can use GPL software even if you don't accept the license.
(((EULAs))) on the other hand, are contracts (((they))) foist upon end users to erode consumer rights. As you said, EULAs are usually bogus because they're presented after one purchases the game, and sometimes it's possible to install/use software without seeing any EULAs.
>FYI, ALL licenses presented after the point of sale are invalid.
Licenses aren't bogus, the onus is on you to read them before doing anything. EULAs, though, generally are bullshit, but there are a few cases of EULAs being upheld.

>terms of an agreement
I said it clearly above, licenses are NOT agreements. They are exemptions to copyright law's terms. There may be some conditions attached to said exemptions (e.g. keep copyright notices, non-commercial use only, only applies to white people), but they're still not contracts. They only come into play if you want to distribute/reproduce/make derivatives.
License AGREEMENTS are agreements. EULAs are agreements. You're (supposedly) required to follow them.

The main distinction people draw is that bare licenses grant you permission to do something you couldn't, without any reciprocity (you don't have to take on any obligation, like abstaining from reverse-engineering, or donating to a charity)).
Moreover, breaching a license means you get in trouble on the copyright front, whereas breaching a contract falls within the realm of contract law (at least in burgerland). Obviously possible to get sued on both counts. At least that's my understanding.
>you're wrong on the Eula thing
How so? By all means explain. They are contracts, like any other. If you accept them, you're giving your word that you will follow the terms. Whether they end up being valid or bogus is an entirely separate matter.

Because most people don't have any kind of rejection towards botnet and cancer and jewishness, so they figure as long as they post to the most popular place(s) then there's no reason to bother going anywhere else. People just want everything to be centralized and do everything from the same place and put all their stuff in a single place.
You'll find that this explains a lot of things, like why people keep lining up for the popular cancerous corporate datamining botnets while completely tossing aside more free/ethical alternatives, similar to how you came to 8kun.

There can be problems when you have mods that require other mods to function, which also require some other mods to function. Then you have situations where mods can conflict between them(imagine a mod makes the sky blue while the other makes it read, what color will be the sky?, or a mod places a castle on spot X, but another mod places dungeon there, what will there be?). Maybe you want to temporarily disable a mod, but don't want to go into the file location, delete the file or move it somewhere else.
Sure when you have a few mods, no problem, but some people have dozens of mods installed in games like Morrowind or New Vegas, for stuff like this is why mod managers were created.

NMM on the other hand remembers the overwriting order too and deletes or overwrites files accordingly where MO would make a virtual filesystem for the game each time the game starts.
And no, you can't use a simple script for that.

As I said no one needs a mod manager for SWBF2 which has mod support or installing a few mods.
But if it overwrites vanilla files along with a ton of other mods eventually, everything will destroy each other if not overwriting each other in a certain order, if even compatible at all. And then you need a clean install and overwrite in the correct order to get the desired result.
In some cases mod managers are employed, in others mod loaders which work by reverse engineering and in others both.
Skyrim has SKSE and loose files. A mod manager is definetly needed for those loose files. And the Mod loader part doesn't serve the purpose the loose files do.
Unlike in Minecraft where forge handles it all.

That's a hard install. Mod managers do a soft install that doesn't fuck with the actual internals of the game's directory structure or content. It's basically a glorified symbolic link manager with an indexer for ordering with a GUI because we're dealing with windows here which AFAIK can't even do proper symbolic links without a whole fucking app like this.
>If they really wanted some kind of simple / centralized thing, the way to go is to have a well featured file browser.
Or just know how to do file operations in bash. Or better yet a terminal mod manager for linux with git features if modders actually bothered putting their shit on a git, which they don't.

The mod manager has to know the overwriting order of the mods to know which file to present to the game.
It does so by creating a virtual fs like MO and presenting that or changing the directory when mods are installed or uninstalled like NMM.
You can't install a mod overwriting files from one mod and not from another without a mod organizer.
Or try uninstalling an individual mod installed over another mod.
Both of those are impossible to do without a mod organizer.

I also explained how mod organizer works. In contrast to NMM it doesn't bother with copying files and is thus perceived by most as the better mod manager because that is a lot faster.
They both memorize and manage overwriting orders of mods or the individual mod files on a case by case basis. Your shell script doesn't do that unless you've already written a complete mod manager in bash in which case you can show it to us.

I'm stuck good ol' socialism, if i just decide to fuck-off to a less "3rd world" country, it'll take years to get the necesary documents because, of course, who wants to actually leave socialism?, unless i want to be a janitor, gardener, etc. for the rest of my life

Jesus christ this thread is retarded. Nexus has had paid memberships for a long time, to cover hosting costs. The capped download for free used to be 1MB/s. The UI is changed and the 5 second delay is new, but they've had capped free downloads and paid premium for years, probably over a fucking decade.
And now you're calling them jewish like babby's first day on /pol/ because they doubled the free download limit and are otherwise doing the same thing they have been? Why is it that only the dumbest fucking niggers came back to this site after hotwheels' deplatforming campaign stopped working? Not even cuckchan /v/'s users are retarded enough to make this thread, and their userbase is full of resetera trannies and people who think quoting someone's post with a soyjak is the height of comedy.

Sounds like most file-sharing sites to me

If you want to be technical, Costs were originally poised on the host, not the clients on filesharing sites.

It's not like it's free to do, running a file sharing website. If they're not making at least some money, then they're losing money.
>jewing everyone out the ass
Well it's still totally free to use, so not very jewish. You're probably not ever gonna hit the cap unless you're downloading multiple compilations of textures and music or shit like that. Also, it's not like they're forcing people to use their site or forcing mod creators to upload there.

Daily reminder that if you're dumb enough to use the nexus mod manager, you are an eternal casual and you should legitimately use a console instead.

Off topic a little, but does anyone know how useful MO is for Oblivion? I recall Oblivion mods having their own file structure, a proto-installer thing and I don't know how well it works with MO compared to Oblivion mod manager.

Can't you use Wyre bash with MO? Run Wyre through MO to create your patches or something to that effect, or was that a different organizer?

Any leads on the white Demetrius mod? I had it before but now I'm having no luck. Seems to have been taken down everywhere.

Water is free, yet you pay to get it
You even have to pay a yearly subscription to the country you're living to keep a plot of dirt for yourself along with also paying for stuff you already bought.

>Water is free, yet you pay to get it
To get clean water to your apartment. You can get drinking water for free anywhere. There is a lot of public bathrooms in cities. That tap water is the exact same as my tap water. And in nature you'll find drinkable water too.
>yearly subscription to the country you're living
That is not true. Water is paid by how much you use. Similar to electricity.

Did you know that crops just grow out of the ground, for free? You can also just find wild animals in nature, no problem.
With all of life's conveniences, they produce and manufacture them in bulk, and for each middleman between you and the source, you're paying a convenience fee. And it's completely reasonable. Time is money, because money represents a unit of time you spent working; you don't want to waste your money (time), and people want to be compensated for theirs. So if it is a big deal, go out, bottle your own water from nature, and you'll have to sanitize it too.

No it doesn't not in this economic system and not even in an ideal one.

No, I don't have to. Unlike you, AMERIMUTT!

You need to use Wrye Bash or Mator Smash for their patching capability but they aren't good as mod managers. Mod Organizer is just too good to use anything else for that.

Wrye Bash has the same functionality as MO but MO is easier to use. Also most of the Oblivion mods were made with wrye in mind.
