Speaking of Doom Eternal I'm convinced it will be just as shit and miserable as the 2016 game. I don't think I've had less fun with a game than Doom 2016, I would have much rather watched the Karl Urban doom movie, with its 90% bullshit science and "soldiers explore dark corridors" screen time than play that low rent Painkiller knockoff and I don't think adding a dash, a grappling hook and wall climbing is going to fix it.

These new ports have an odd compromise between the BFG cuts and the original. Medkits went from red crosses to pils to neon green crosses. The Wolf3D stages went from OG Nazis and Wolf names to cheat code names and turning the SS to Zombiemen with zero Nazi textures from Wolf3D to the old names back and SS with modded yells and the Nazi stuff turned to a triangle and no stache. Don't know why they didn't take inspiration from the GBA Doom 2 using the RtCW logo and stuff.

I have no idea if there's any truth to Sarge using other people's work in his mod, but attribution is required in pretty much all open source licenses even the lax ones like FreeBSD has. It's only ones like Unlicense or WTFPL, or being in the public domain that don't. However even if you aren't obligated to do it it's common courtesy, and a lot of the popular mods are helped out by many and each other so it's just good sense to do it. There are two main differences. Started playing Brutal Doom v21 and even loaded up Hexen with GZDoom.
Jesus fucking christ, how has gaming regressed so badly in thirty years that fucking 2D vector maps presented via a primitive first person raytracer present greater level design than is possible in full 3D?
And the enemy variety is better. And the weapon variety is better. And the weapons feel like they hit the enemies harder.

Civvy borders from entertaining to irritating. My opinion on 2016 hasn't changed, it's a fun game but it isn't fun for the reasons I enjoy Doom 1/2 which is mainly the raw speed and the multiplayer. So far Eternal is looking to be a better version of 2016 with a bunch of movement shit cribbed from Unreal Tournament/Quake so I imagine I'll enjoy it. I just wish that they didn't fucking triple down on the glory kills.
Not only do you now have glory kills and the chainsaw, but they were generous enough to give you even more canned shit to 1hko enemies with the sword and a "blood punch" which I think is basically just single use berserker pack punch. Not to mention they went in on making your resources even more dependent on using their updated execution systems, as if you're not using the glory kills/chainsaw/flamethrower/ you're probably going to be starving for resources on Ultra Violence or higher.

It was decent if you played it as action-oriented Metroid Prime game and got all the collectables and upgrades, but it was not a good Doom game.
The only real Doom game launching in the next month is Doom64.
