I played First Departure for the PSP about five years ago. It is good but I had a lengthy break for some reason and completely forgot where I was supposed to be working towards. The main story seems to be hidden under a lot of foraging.

None, playing mostly arpgs of late. I was playing FFV disc on the PS3 but the save function freezes the game every so often and so I will find another option later, like dig out the PS1. Want to play FF12 remaster more than any. Would like the .dot hack 1-4 collection to be remastered as well.

Dragon Quest V

So far its homey and comfy so far

Currently on Strange Journey Redux and am liking it so far despite not being use to the perspective of a first person dungeon crawler. And also like >>16798204 playing P5R. I do notice some changes in the storyline, the script is a bit different from the previous Japanese version but more simplified(at least if i remember right) but its not as drastic as anyone will expect. The bosses are the same for the most part just the stages and some story-line plots change around.

Try Suikoden if possible. Those games are simple to play but a lot of world building involved story-line wise.

what are some jrpgs i should avoid? should i avoid shit like idea factory games like hyperdimension or dragon star varnir?

It's hard to find a game you definitely should avoid. The only one I can think of at the top of my head is tales of phantasia GBA (the SNES and PS1 version is solid though).

Neptunia can be fun. But if i were to say Cold Trails i know i would be lambasted because those elitist faggots who take their series as the second coming of christ will get mad at me. It depends what you are and what you are not into. If you hate long exposition and awhile to get going than a usual JRPG it would be Cold Trails series easily.

I tried playing Hyperdimensional nep a couple of weeks ago but the combat/gameplay was too boring for me. I enjoyed the dialogue/characters and the world but I couldn't get through the action parts of the game without sleeping. I will say that it was probably some of the best sleep I've ever had though.

Not meaning to trash Cold Trails. But i often see their fanbases become elitist to many JRPG fandoms, claiming its better than Shin Megami Tensei, Persona, and even the Chrono Trigger series as well. And even despite that they ruin a lot of others wanting to get into it due to the shitty fandom acting like they are superior for slogging through a long exposition game that takes 3 to four games to tell a story.

I seem to like all rpgs, even the ones others don't. Best way is to find the style and over arching themes you like and difficulty otherwise known as grinding or potion needing. I would avoid the most popular as it is often character appearance related to its popularity. There are also a few that were shit on despite begin good games like Unlimited Saga and Shadow Hearts 3. Idea Factory games have a lot to offer if you like playing tongue in cheek humor games while not wearing pants.

I've been playing dragon quest 11 on pc and the Japanese version of Persona Royal.

DQ11 has been pretty fun so far while P5R is the same sold for $60 to add in content that could of been in the first game and doesn't really improve the story or gameplay.>>16798204

Devil Survivor is a good game to get if your into Strategy-ish games. Depends on which version you want, theres the DS one and the 3DS one with an extra day and voice acting. I personally found it to be alright but it feels a little reliant on RNG. Xenoverse i haven't played but i'm assuming it's the dragon ball fighitng game unless it isn't

Most of the changes are small while the major changes are really shown late game. They didn't improve the game only added in some short events you can hang out with your main cast and some supporting characters with, but it doesn't fix all of the issues with story and the characters

Pretty much it's just an expansion pack at best. I haven't played any xenoverse games yet but, devil survivor is pretty good it can be difficult for time and time but that's what makes it fun.

As someone who loves Falcom, I can confirm Falcom fans are cancer. They claim their games are the best ever because so few people even know what they are and therefore are unable to refute them. Like I said, I love Falcom but their games are far from being the zenith of the JRPG genre. The Trails of Cold Steel games especially. That series is probably the biggest most uneven mess since Final Fantasy 8 and it fucks up a lot of the lore and characters from the earlier Trails games. The only reason I still play them is because I've already invested so much time into the series that I have to see how it all ends if it ever does.

Seems like someone leaked an English patch for Star Ocean: Blue Sphere (I say leaked because that faggot Zhi hasn't made a release post about it as of yet and the project page still only says 60% complete) to RHDN.

I'm feeling the urge to play a new JRPG. I'm thinking Alliance Alive, which just released, but NISA got its hands on it and I fucking loathe them. I haven't seen a breakdown of how badly they fucked things yet.

I was also contemplating Ara Fell, which looks like a nice late SNES era throwback.

Disagree with you here. I feel at the very least they are a top contender. Call me a cancerous Falcom fan all you like; I've played and am playing other JRPGs right now and none thus far can really match trails that I can think of. Doesn't mean they aren't good or great, but trails is on another level (despite the parts that I feel could've been improved)

If you have a 3DS, or good enough computer to emulate (I'll admit I'm not sure how good citra is myself), Atlus handled the original version out here, so there's at least one option available in English that NISA hasn't touched.

Been playing the PC port of Wizardry: Labyrinth of Lost Souls. Pretty great so far, Especially the dungeon designs. But I still prefer Wizardry: Tale of the Forsaken Land.

They just paid Atlus out for their 3DS script since the new ports don't add anything new, so you can just pirate it or buy it used. I'd still play the 3DS version though, the UI is better with the second screen

Doing some comparison between the game and sample screenshots on the AG page, you might be right about that, unless Zhi's since re-edited the translation he's been sitting on for years. Doesn't quite match. In any case, there's no crediting given on the RHDN page it was uploaded to, other than a "user123123" as the hacker, so it's hard to say, at least judging from there.

Off the top of my head, the Growlanser games, the first four at least, have better gameplay and writing(in terms of the direct story; nothing beats Trails in terms of world building).

Grandia has better combat. I don't know if I'd say the writing is better but it has it's own brand of charm. It's kind of hard to compare the two because they're so different. The same could be said of a lot of older JRPGs honestly.

I think a lot of 16 bit JRPGs(like Chrono Trigger, Lunar, Phantasy Star IV etc.) are superior. Not because they do any single thing better than Trails, but because they form a more cohesive whole in my opinion. It's hard to articulate but it feels like they have a better "flow" if that makes any sense.

They're definitely a step down from the Liberl and Crossbell games in pretty much every aspect aside from combat, but they're not without merit. The worst part for me was that most of the characters are just generic shonen or harem anime archetypes. If the writing annoys you too much you can always pretend that the Trails series ended with the SSS flying out of the Azure Tree and that Lloyd's epilogue about what happens to Crossbell afterwards didn't happen.

it is fairly heavy. Most attacks use press & drag, taps, and flicks, and you're going to be using a lot of them.

that said, my screen still works fine even after several playthroughs. After awhile you get a knack for exactly how much pressure you need to activate the touchscreen, minimizing the degree of scratching

just avoid pins whose effect wants to you draw circles around the screen or drag back and forth; those are what will really mess it up

There's usually an alternative, not necessarily better, though, but not worse. All pins are kinda useful, and it's just fun finding what do you like the most until the inevitable OP last pins.

I'm playing the first Persona, but the Psp version, 3d graphics are a bit better and there's new cgi cutscenes, and I think there's some changes in the interface, I like these changes. They also changed the music and the new music sounds just like the one on the modern games, don't know if I like this change. It's good overall I guess.

Oh and Mark now is asian, intead of the black-dirtied psx version.

From what I've gathered, Septerra Core is a western rpg in a weeb style. Anachronox on the other hand, is a jrpg (gameplay wise) in a western design.
