I'm surprised there hasn't been a thread on this yet. Basically according to both timing and investors, Nintendo will release a new Switch in holiday 2020 for about 400 dollars.

The main features being

>exclusive ports like DMC5, Nu-DOOM 2, Tekken 7, etc.

>Modern ports like Witcher 3, Bloodstained and Overmeme to get a patch to boost framerate to 60FPS (or 4K 30FPS if they're a shitty developer).

>Shitty PS5 ports like we have with PS4 games now

>Built in camera's so they can bring over mobile and Wii games.

>The return of the virtual console with a price hike to the current online service.

>A completely new OS with more social media elements.

>A complete redesign of both hardware and software

>Powerful but underwhelming hardware, think something akin to a Galaxy S10.

As for software:

Wario Ware Switch

Pikmin 4

New Labo like game

WiiU ports of Star-Fox Zero, Wonderful 101, Super Mario 3D World

Paper Mario Switch

Xenoblade Remastered

Bayonetta 3

Some Surprises that NOA will absolutely not market because it's not Mario.

Let's compete with two long-awaited consoles by releasing a fucking nothing in the same month! That's a good idea!

Fuck off, anon. Assuming it exists at all, which it probably doesn't, they'll put it out March or September 2021. A more powerful Switch might happen but I doubt there will be any exclusive games, kinda defeats the point of "play anywhere, anytime" and the New 3DS had like two exclusives.

>I would like a Switch Home, basically a Switch that works as a pure home console and is cheaper because it does not pretend to be a portable video game system.

Not gonna happen. Not only is introducing a third SKU of the original Switch stupid compared to just making an upgrade, they would only knock down 50 bucks from the price and need to redesign the whole console entirely (compared to the Lite which is 90% the same thing, in a slightly different plastic shell).

>built in camera

So…what is the entire Switch screen going to be the camera? I hope to Jesus of Nazareth that won't be the case. Reason 1: obvious privacy concerns. Reason 2: It may inspire Laptops and tablets to build webcams directly into the monitor screen itself, leaving no chance for privacy ever again.

I'm surprised these tech companies haven't already tried building the webcam directly into the screen, since… if you tape up the eye of the webcam then you tape up the entire machine. NSA USA

My only issue is they need to start being able to get ports from current gen games because the Nintendo Switch will not cut it. The Witcher was decent enough but it is obvious it needs such a huge upgrade to be able to come off as a good port machine.

These two things contradict each other. You can't run games in handheld mode at 1080p without sacrificing battery life. Even the more efficient hardware available to them now cannot soak the additional battery usage from doubling the handheld resolution, certainly not to the extent of giving you more battery AND higher resolution.

I thought this would be a godsend, but it has a lot of shitty caveats.

>no wireless

>some controllers will stop working with it if their controller firmware is updated

I don't have a PS4, but I know someone who does. If I paired my DS4 controllers with his PS4 at any point the firmware will update and possibly render my DS4 useless with sys-con like the Xbox One controllers.

>crashes or freezes may happen on 9.0.X due to high memory usage

High memory usage? I imagine this would shit-up the performance of things that demand a lot of system resources like emulation.

My DualShock 4 controllers don't work very well wired anyway because USB 2.0 Micro-B is a trash interface. The retention clips bend inward over time in the Micro-B end of the cable causing it to slip out and if you bend them back you risk going too far and getting the cable stuck in the Micro-B port on the DS4. The Micro-B cable is also prone to disconnecting if the Micro-B end is tilted slightly inside the Micro-B port. All-in-all USB Micro-B ruins the DS4 as a wired controller. The DualShock 5 should FINALLY have USB Type-C, but when it arrives it is very likely that the price is going to be even worse than the DualShock 4.

Thanks, and apparently the contacts Nintendo used for their analog sticks wears out due to friction, but some people play a lot and don't seem to be getting any drift at all, so maybe some people are just pressing down way too hard on their sticks or something? I have no idea.

So a joystick from a 5th gen system works fine even today, but one from an 8th gen system is defeated by dust? lmao. And Nintendo intended people to take these things outside. There is dust everywhere outside.

The left joysticks would be used much more often since most games use it for movement, whereas the right one tends to be less used, which supports the theory that joycon drift is a result of contacts wearing out.

It's more natural for the thumb to sit on a slightly recessed incline. If you look at the Xbone or PS4 controllers they are also slightly tilted backwards from where your palm actually connects with the handle.

The angled design doesn't work too well when they've got to slot into a tablet and be held horizontal like a mini-controller though.

In that regard, have the switch scene moved on?

It will most likely be an upgraded X1 with higher memory bandwidth for 4k upscaling via New 3DS. If they made it a new Tegra then it's a new system. That's my guess.

Basically old exploits won't work but there's a chance to find new ones.

Nintendo adressed the paperclip hack in the redbox remodel. The good news: if things go as planned once exploits are found then homebrew software shouldn't need to rewritten completely. That's also if it's still Tegra X1. What are the chances of using a better Tegra chip without compromising too much battery life?

Unless Nvidia is hiding something, I can't really think what a "pro" upgrade's hardware would be besides a new chip. M I don't see it being the X2/Xaiver is that they're primarly developed optimized for use in cars, contrast to the X1 that was made with the whole shield line in mind. That leaves the Orin, and I don't know for certain, the Switch was likely in early hardware development around 2015, and Nintendo saw the X1 as the best way to fulfill their vision. Nintendo could also just base a new platform off the X1 that is compatible but has much better performance. These are all posibilities, I'm betting on the last one.

>A completely new OS with more social media elements.

Yeah, this makes the whole thing bullshit. Not only do you need it for compatibility, you don't just throw away all the fucking codebase for a mid-life refresh. This is another wet dream of a clickbait faggot who has a wet dream of producing a massive vomit of articles about every little difference

This. They kinda already did this with mariko. Can't use Tegra X2 directly, since it has less "big" cores, and while they may be more powerfull, it'll sufficiently fuck up thread pinning in game code to cause compat errors in old games. Xavier is too new and too far away from X1 to be used as an in-place upgrade. I think the whole Pro version is a sham.

Also there's the gamecards. Digital games can be updated to handle a new chipset. For gamecards most of that base info is on the ROM. Not sure if that'll work well with a new chip outside of downloading a second version of the game made for it.

This isn't a problem at all actually. Switch handles patches both for digital and physical copies just fine. Not only that, the whole idea of back-compat is that the host hardware accommodates original code, not the other way around. The New 3DS goes into a compat mode when running a non new-3ds game, same with ps4 pro

Its graphite dust caused by friction wearing down the graphite sheets in the mechanism, and nintendo was retarded to forget that graphite sheds like that and makes dust.

They wont put in effort to make a huge revision, it will be new 3ds or dsi where it has a handful of exclusives, since the install base of the og is far too big to ignore.

Nintendo recently confirmed that they're not releasing a new model of the Switch this year.

https://www.nintendolife.com/news/2020/01/nintendo_has_no_plans_to_release_a_new_switch_model_this_year

Which means jack shit because they've denied a new model is coming before, and then a month later announced a new hardware revision (think it was the DSi).

New hardware revisions is the #1 reason I'll never own another Nintendo product ever again. Why buy anything when a year or so later the "improved" version comes out? And then two years later, the next gen starts. Fuck Nintendo.

They might be referring to using the camera as the Wii's sensor bar?

Though TBH the Joycon's built-in accelerometer does a really great job at handling "aiming" without one through some wizardry.

I bought mine a long time ago, left Joycon experienced drift after few months. Like a cuck I bought a pair of new official joycons, couple months later, left con experienced drift again.

I did some research found out that so many people were complaining about the older joycon models experiencing drift that they were going to sue. Nintendo backed down and now offers free joycon repairs as long as you can produce a switch serial model as proof of purchase.

Thing is… I can only imagine how long it would take for these repairs. So instead I bought a pack off amazon, included tweezers, multiple sized screwdrivers(for joycon), a bunch of covers for joycon joystick, some glue, and most importantly 2 exact copies of the original joycon joysticks, it cost 15$.

The first attempt took about 30 minutes, but it was a complete success, fully repaired my original joycon. Fixing the 2nd one should only take about 10 minutes since I know what to do and if it ever happens again buying just the joystick alone off amazon should only cost like 5$.

Beats the hell out of waiting months for nintendo to repair it or even worse, buying a new pair of joycons for 70$.
