Normally that'd be the case, but Mot's bullshit is kinda legendary. He only has like one real attack, but one of his moves is the ability to give himself extra turns at will which he can (and will) spam, and that aforementioned attack is Almighty element, which means nothing resists it and it bypasses the Reflect equivalent. In other words, when Mot gets his turn, you have to sit there and pray to RNG God that his AI doesn't use Beast Eye more than once or you'll have to sit there for several minutes while he buffs himself to full and nukes your party to death.

He's not the only boss with this skill, but Mot is the only one whose skill list is so small his AI is likely to spam it over and over. Look at embed related.

Fight designed in a way that you need to have a group to kill him unlike any other monster in the game, while gimping the online so hard that it's literally impossible to reliably find good team mates without waiting for hours.

He's nothing particularly special, his thing is making itself immune to weaknesses every few turns.

The problem is the fucker is the third in a gauntlet of 3 difficult bosses with no pause to recover inbetween. Up to this point the game has set you up to big fights against big guys which can be mostly cleared without many losses by exploiting weaknesses. Swapping strategies twice means if you don't have a deep demon bench and resources you're fucked. Also, if you hit this guy's weakness while it's immune, which you are bound to do if you didn't read the prompt from fatigue, gg.

For a well designed boss, this is true.

For a poorly designed one, this is less so.

Some drag out a fight for ages, like the shadowasshole at the end of NWN2, who can take 45 minutes or more to beat. I seem to recall the final boss in Severance: Blade of Darkness took even longer, but its been nearly 20 years since I played that.

I'm sure everyone here can also think of particularly obnoxious mechanics from the worst bosses, like undodgeable one shot kill attacks, stunlocking or knocking you off cliffs to your death and so on.

The last boss from Thousand Arms. He didn't have a lot of damage in his arsenal so you weren't at risk of dying, but one of his moves was a self-heal that exceeded your maximum damage output for a given round. So the fight was basically rolling dice until they all went your way long enough to knock his HP all the way down. It took me an hour and a half, 20 years later and I'm still salty about it.

Fun game otherwise, though.

Shoji (Top) and Insomnia (bottom) from 7th dragon 2020 II. The former while his defense isn't very high he always moves first and hits like all hell. If you're unlucky he could take out 1-3 of your party members and if you are most of their health which is more than enough to kill you in the next turn. Insomnia has likes spamming an instant kill move that isn't damage based, a rarely used status condition in the game. The game expects you to protect yourself considering how much enemies love using status ailments moves but instakill is rare. Most causes of instant death are from high damage attacks that prompt warns you to take caution against.

Introducing Gedna Relvel. Due to a scripting error, her health will be increased by 800x your character's level rather than the intended 100x. Her being late-game content from Tribunal means your character will be at least around Level 30, so that's a sensible 24,000 additional hitpoints for her. For reference, motherfucking Vivec himself has 3000. Almalexia, the end boss of Tribunal, has 7000.

Of course, that wouldn't be enough bullshit, so the first thing Gedna will do is tocast a spell which makes her completely immune to magic unless you abused Morrowind's broken alchemy system and made a potion that at least somewhat reliably reflects her standard attack spell back on her. Said spell deals between 300-600 base damage, and it will take minutes until she runs out of magicka. And once she does that? Then the Lich will punch you to death with her bare fucking fists; first burning through your fatigue with two or three strikes and then performing a late-term abortion on your character as it lies down in fetal position.

I eventually managed to get her with a monk-style character by punching her lights out first, but given that Unarmed combat does absolutely abysmal damage in all but the early stages of the game, but still need to knock her out, whack her with a (hopefully Daedric) weapon, knock her out again, hurt her and some - and that all for some meager ten minutes, all while frantically chugging restore fatigue and restore health potions.

When I got to her I believe she used the robes effect a ton or something cause I killed her without too much issue just smacking her with skullcrusher after downing a ton of sujamma and healing like a mad man. Bit of a disappointment at the time but I guess it's better than what she was actually like.

She must've used the effect a huge amount of times or something, I really can't remember. I used openmw but I don't think they fixed her.

Pretty sure they fixed her. The Drain Health effect of her robes only lasts for one second only lasts for one second before she gets said health back, and unless you drank enough Sujamma to give 1000-something Strength, killing her should still take a while. At least it did when I alternated between keeping her down and stabbing her to death with the Spear of Bitter Mercy.

I tried running through that part of the game but just couldn't, it was downright exhausting due to the INSANE enemy spam in the area, it's almost a parody of what the game is about only the devs think that this is good game design and a proper challenge, and honestly by that point I was pretty damn tired of the game after fighting Faggot Knight and Sir Hitboxes so after dying a couple of times on Iron Passage attempting to get to blue smelter just to satisfy my morbid curiosity I dropped that shit and went straight to the rest of my 100% run. Thankfully you never have to visit the DLC more than once because fuck everything about brume tower.

I had a ton of trouble with Solidus too, until I figured out how to get around him.

The trick with his tentacle projectiles isn't to dodge off to the sides, which ends up wasting time and allowing him to recover after firing them. It's a little risky and takes practice, but you can cartwheel directly between the projectiles while he is firing them and slash him up without getting damaged after doing so.

His first form is easily the worst, but 100% of his second form's (post-tentacles) attacks can be guarded. The most important part of his second form is NOT MOVING. At all. If you move around while he's dashing, you're more likely than not going to run into the fiery trails that he leaves.

Just stand wherever you are and wait for him to dash three times. If he rushes at you with his shoulder, that's the only time he will hit you during that particular attack, and you can let down your guard and slash at him right thereafter. If he rushes at you and brandishes his sword, he's going to strike at you three times consecutively, each of those hits being guard-able as well. The other most important part of his second form is simply orienting yourself toward his general direction whenever he rushes at you so that you can successfully guard his attacks.

This is just in case you ever replay MGS2. With those tips in mind I didn't have much trouble on my Extreme playthrough of the Plant, as every boss except for Fatman is cheese-able in the HD version of the game.

I didn't mention this but i was playing on an emulator with kb&m, not that bad really but i couldn't get the sword to work .At the end i cheesed him by hanging from the edge every time he attacked, then got up and threw some punches, once i was about to finish him hours in but i pressed let go instead of get up and fell to my death.

This boss is only really bad on Nightmare without New Game+. Lots of grinding for shards in order to kill her within a reasonable amount of time, and like every boss up until Bloodless, getting hit by anything will kill you in 1-2 hits.

The minions in that fight are absolutely necessary for surviving it on Nightmare, by the way: They serve as shields against what's otherwise a full screen attack.

Of course I knew about the statues, I stated that the way I traversed through brume tower allowed me to destroy the 4 healing ones on his arena, but most often than not people would be leaving one standing there since Fume Knight holds the last of the rods. My complaint was that giving free healing on this boss because you don't know beforehand how many rods will be available to you is just bullshit, not the existence of the ash statues themselves. Good on you that circling around him worked, that was not my experience, especially since his dumbass hitboxes are all over the god damn place: sometimes his blade cleaves through me and nothing happens while others he blatantly whiffs and yet I get hit for massive stagger and damage which made the fight frustratingly confusing.

the thing with yiazmat is that it was supposed to be the ultimate test of the players ability to use the gambits, if you knew what you were doing, you were technically capable of making the battle fight itself from start to finish. even if this process took 10 hours because the boss was purposefully given 50 million HP in a game where the damage cap was 9999 but they cucked out in the International Zodiac release and uncapped the damage to 99,999, making the fight significantly shorter

Absolute Virtue i have never fought myself, but i know from a good source that the idea wasn't to make an impossible boss, it wasn't poorly designed either, its just really really hard. i know only the surface of that story of the guys who fought it for 25 hours but from what i was told, they were using the wrong strategy. hence the length of the fight.

Not exactly hard, but I was on this boss for good 1:30h, for one simple reason: being unlucky.

This boss starts to heal a huge chunk of his health at the end of each turn, the only way to defeat him is to attack him with certain attacks in a certain order.

This wouldn't be too bad except for one aoe-attack he does, where he randomly DISABLES one attack on each party-member.

So if Lady Luck hates you, if that one attack that got disabled was one that was needed for that chain-attack, you have to start all over again.

You have to do this three fucking times during the battles, which is interrupted through three lenghty cutscenes.

Unlike Super Kamoshidaman, Yusukesaurus and Doe I didn't die once to him but he took me by far the longest.

I actually ran out the 3DS-battery fighting him.

And if that wasn't enough apparently Enlil is even more obnoxious.

The final boss in Ark of Napishtim is bullshit, not because of difficulty or any unfair attacks, but because if you didn't upgrade all the swords then you can't beat him and are stuck unable to beat the game. At no other point in the game was having them all upgraded necessary to progress, then after the point of no return they stick you in a situation where you must use them all. The game is good enough to be worth playing again but damn that was pretty annoying.

This fucking thing. I could've said something like "some toehoe," but this thing taught me what a damage sponge was and how unfun they are. Maybe it's not actually so bad now that I'm older. Maybe I wasn't playing optimally as a young lad. But this is probably the first time I dealt with prolonged bullshit in a game and fucked off. Level grinding is unfun too, so beating this guy hasn't happened.

Wait, there's one more I can think of. In Ys Felghana, that shitty fire dragon on nightmare. Maybe you aren't supposed to do a first playthrough on nightmare, but trying to hit it is bullshit, the spiked floor is bullshit, and getting 2HKO by a boss with weird perspective is bullshit. The first 5 seconds of the game over tune was scarred into me well before this fucker, but he added the spice of trauma whenever I hear it.

I still haven't touched 2 but yeah Rodin is absolute fucking bullshit if you don't use a lot of cheap shit yourself.

Usually most kills of him either involve the climax bracelet or abusing the hyper mode of pillow talk or sometimes the durga glitch.

If you do it more normally he becomes a lot more imposing, he's basically as aggressive as enraged balder on NSIC but without the enraged part (if you do taunt him enough to enrage him you're just fucking dead within a couple seconds), his attacks hit like a truck and you're most likely just gonna mash dodge and hope you get lucky if he gets close and forget about dodge offsetting off those you're not gonna time it right most of the time unles you have the butterflys out.

You can't easily melee him and most of the accessories are fucking useless against him so only reasonable way to damage him if you're not that great is kilgore, you have just enough time to get maybe one or two projectiles out between attackss outside of a couple where you can just barely fit a PKP which makes hi mflinch, one other usuelf is shuraba's PKP which can double or triple hit him and do a large chunk of damage as well as a flinch, hell you can chain them if you get lucky.

But then comes the 50% health mark (he has a comfortable 5 life bars) then he becomes faster and more aggressive and gains an akuma style grab which you can dodge just by moving fast, so bit harder but still not too bad.

Now comes 10% life left and the grab is instant, you can dodge it, but the window for it is basically one or two frames so can't really do it especially when the tell for that dodging point is hard to read (even without having suffered a 4 minute battle with the hardest and most tense fight in the game), only other way to dodge it is having the shield butterfly out, which works since you build up magic very fast throughout the fight due to all the dodging you're doing, and the one saving grace of that is he fuck off to the other side of the universe when you dodge it that way so you can arm some insane combo like PPPKKK with kilgore which is 9 rockets to his face in no time if pulled off right, but if at any point you get caught off guard by that one attack you're either dead or have 1 hitpoint left, oh and he's even more aggressive and has less downtime than before so even just his regular stuff is gonna be hard to deal with.

I've done that fight without getting hit and without using anything too bullshit, although I missed the pure platinum by 300 combo point because I kinda went too safe early on.

Sounds worse than 2's fight with him. I think Bayo 2 has more forgiving dodge windows and you have weapon jank from Alarune, so it's to be expected. However, Witch Trials V is worthy of being called a nightmare when compared to that fight. You have to play against a Baldur/Rosa combo and a Bayo/Jeanne combo. If you hate fighting humanoid enemies, you'll really hate this. Without whip and trinket cheese strats, it would be bullshit tough.

It's been a decent number of years since I last played NMH2, but I'll never forget the bullshit that is Jasper Batt Jr's send form, and his "fuck you out the window" insta kill punches. And I'm sure no one else who beat the game will either. I found out about an important game mechanic on accident because I was losing to this piece of shit, and when I was raging out shaking the fuck out of the Wiimote, I learned that in NMH2 you can bring yourself back after losing your health, by mashing buttons. It would have been nice to have been smart enough to figure that out before the final boss.

An unfinished boss from an unfinished map from an unfinished game. It's complete fucking bullshit and whether or not you survive is dependent on whether or not you get clipped and flipped into a bottomless pit by a broken hitbox.

Capra Demon is also a pain in the ass for me. There's a 50/50 chance I'll get stunned by a dog bite on my first run up the stairs and instantly raped to death. If not I can survive but the boss fight is just one of those bosses I struggle with.

Shin Akuma from Tekken 7, secret boss from story mode! Man that asshole took me 5 hours or so to defeat. To me, winning is absolute luck which depends on the AI behavior.

You can get used to the regular one. But the Extreme one, the battle is completely luck based with available cover, he can wipe your team at the end of the quest (disregarding the gear) which is extremely frustrating, and one player screwing up can ruin the complete quest (which is terrible in a community based game). The game expects you to master the FF jump pose to excape the meteor, which was originally just a neat trick. I have a video where I fail that jump and die while Extremoth dies, so our team lost.

With MR gear it gets easier, but not much fairer. Its absolute garbage, like all of the Final Fantasy content:

>Cactuars are too rare, each type, fucking you up if you're an endemic crown completionist.

Yeah, the final Tower stage is fighting against Shao Khan, Goro, Meleena and Kintaro with 1 bar of HP vs 4 bars of HP. I think that counts as a shitty boss for this thread.

Thing is, it gets easier everytime you fail, so you basically have to fail 10+ times on purpose to make it possible.

It's Tower Stage 300, and I'm at stage 60 or so and already dealt with so much bullshit in that mode, I just gave up. And you can't espect me to grind 300 stages, even though I'm level 90 in MK11, which felt like a billion matches (finishing all 5 stages with almost each character, mostly pre-balancing-patch).

Did anyone play Archenemy (3 vs 1) format in Duels of the Planeswalkers? It's not only broken shit in real life, but also in the game.

To explain it for non-MTG players: You control 3 decks at once of your choice (but no real synergy, and kinda shitty decks), or play in coop. Each player has 20 life. You fight Nicol Bolas, the boss, who has 40 life. The odds sound good at first.

Each time it's Nicol's turn, he activates a Scheme card for free, which has a powerful effect for himself, or against all other players.

Effects like "Destroy all nonland permanent your opponents control." Or "Gain control of all nonland permanents your opponents control until end of turn".

So imagine you finally gather an army together to defeat that guy, and he plays the last Scheme.

True, but I think there's too much whining about the item grinding, since if you play through the game (e.g. unlocking the whole Krypt and finishing at least a few character towers), especially after the patch, its fine. You know, if you are actually PLAYING and not wasting your money on a game you won't finish or touch, like its a stupid Steam Sale game.

But you're right. If you let the AI grind the towers for hours (thank god for whoever had that idea), why is the grind even there? Its just there to waste your time. I was able to tear through DMD in a day with Super Vergil, with my biggest obstacles being that damned chessboard and Arkham. If you fail to jump to the side in time your HP gets erased insanely quick by those tentacles which there will be more of them the longer the battle drags on. Speaking of which, you lose access to both your devil trigger and style in the second half of the fight, with only an AI partner to compensate if you don't have someone who knows how to play to help you. It's a pretty basic boss otherwise with a bunch of enemies that make you spam your gun button until he shows up again when most of them have been eliminated. Even with Super Dante, I'm dreading to fight him again

FFXI was my Alma Mater. There were actually 2 bosses like this, one was Pandemonium (who made the news because players fought it for 48 hours straight and one of them died IRL from a blood clot from sitting so long) and the other was Absolute Virtue. I never killed Pandy, but I did fight AV a few times as a linkshell pickup.

AV was obnoxious. You needed 4 randomly dropped rare items from 4 lesser gods just to pop him, and he would only pop in the place of a different NM about 1 in 5 times. So just having the chance to fight him was a bitch. What really made him hard apart from his auto-party wipe Meteorite attack was the ability to spam a Full Heal move that instantly restored his millions of HP to full, unless you figured out the developer's obscenely complicated gimmick that let you seal that power away. He could also summon other superbosses as pets.

As a billion Jewtubers have probably pointed out, the boss fights sucked on purpose. Suda is just as much of a hack as Kojima, he just isn't as outspoken about it so he usually gets a pass. I played two Ys games in my life - Ark of Napishtim and the one before that, can’t remember the name. Oath of Felghana? I can’t recall, it was one where your first area is a mine shaft or something. Anyway, I had issues with both games but in different ways. With Napishtim, I ended up learning much too late that I was required to level up all three swords to max (I had previously been maxing only one and not caring about the others cause they sucked) in order to beat the final boss. It wouldnt be impossible to beat the final boss with low leveled swords but it would take way too long. So I couldn’t finish it and I dropped it right then and there as soon as I learned the game fucked me over.

With the other Ys game, I don’t know what the fuck went wrong but the bosses were waaaaaaaaaay too spongey. I thought I was upgrading everything I could and leveling up a fair bit (without straight up grinding) but each boss took upwards of 20 minutes just whittling away at their huge health pools. They were all somewhat formulaic with the attack patterns but that is fucking unacceptable. I can not reasonably keep doing the same movements perfectly for twenty minutes and not be expected to die or at least get hit many times. So I dropped that shit at about the time you get to the fish statue whatever boss, cant quite remember since its been years.

Anyone else experience this? Dunno if it was Ys-drones I was speaking to but they defended the game tooth and nail even after I told em this

I've played the first game and the bosses aren't that hard, but if your level isn't high enough, their HP and damage is multiplied by around 10, essentially forcing you to get killed and go grind some more.

Napishtim tells you very explicitly that the final area is a point of no return, and specifically warns you that you won't be able to upgrade your equipment once you depart. I don't know how you came to the conclusion that the other swords are useless when there are enemies that force you to switch swords to damage, and having access to their spells is really helpful on the higher difficulties. Plus it's not like there's anything else to be spending your emelas on.

These Ys games have weird shit with scaling where one level you're dealing jack shit in terms of damage, and then the literal next level or the next armor/weapon upgrade is the level you should be having the fight.

It's weird but the game usually makes sure you're leveled up or a few hundred xp away from the required level for a boss fight by having the xp multiplier which encourages you to go through enemies in every screen you enter. Because once you play the boss at the correct levels they're wonderful and outside of maybe the three phase final boss nothing's a health sponge. You want those you can play Ys Seven and above

I admit that holy trinity has its flaws but it clicked so perfectly with me I can't help but forgive them and I assume that's the case with many anons.

Speaking of ys, that annoying bat-fucker from Ys 1's mine. It's the one boss that I remember not having anything relating to a strategy, just utter fucking luck with how he spawns and despawns.

I tried beating this bastard on level 1 crit using speedrun starts and I could not for the life of me beat him.

I was able to beat every boss before him, using level 1 crit speedrun strats but not him.

I know hes more difficult on the PS4 remake due to the game running at 60 FPS causing his card attacks to move faster and to happen more often, but the real issue was that I kept getting stuck in dice mode at the very beginning of the fight and getting killed because if you dont get undiced then you basically are guaranteed to die.

This asshole. God the game was great. All bosses follow a similar gimmick of killing a bunch of summoned minions as quickly as possible and ending the kill chain with an attack on the boss, which would instantly kill them if the chain was long enough. Enter this son of a bitch. Not only does he teleport all over the fucking stage instead of following you or staying stationary, like every other boss, HE ALSO BECOMES INVULNERABLE WHEN HE ATTACKS YOU.

That game was AWESOME but no matter what I did I couldn't beat that guy. I gave UP but I still consider myself as beating it anyways because he is horseshit and I was young and don't want to replay it now in the future and I could just watch the ending on youtube or something anyways!

Still,he was pretty bullshit when he did his attacks in the air I found the minions to be a lot stronger than him.

Agree on the game being awesome,and as I'm playing Kunoichi right now while loving it I can only think that a new shinobi game in this style will never happen. Fuck this world

Ok DSP, I'd like you to play any game with a leveling system and not level up. I guess Sekiro's full of health sponges because how the hell was I supposed to know I shouldn't fight Sword Saint without having a few prayer beads and memories? It's not like I'm dealing jack shit damage to them or I'm getting one shot by them. I guess the same applies for Dragon's Dogma, or Underrail not letting you 1v5.

With the exception of the final stage, the game throws in your way enough enemies for you to level up or be close enough to the level required for fighting the boss. The game then lets you have an exp multiplier that increases with combos which incentivizes you to go through enemies in screens. The game further then gives you defense, power, speed and mana powerups when fighting mooks to help things go faster. The game then gives you a giant exp multiplier if you're underleveled and fighting higher leveled enemies, and heavily limits your exp gain if you go back to fighting the eagles in Illburn when you're highly leveled. The game gives you every indicator as to when you're supposed to fighting a boss. The game spaces out giving you ore(or in the case of Origins, Roda fruit) so you can upgrade your weapons accordingly. The game gives you a save point and a teleport point before every single boss and miniboss. What else should the game do?

Yeah,their hitbox is weird.

My way of killing them was jumping and doing some air strikes after a dash while locked in.

This usually worked,but they felt pretty cheap,especially when I was killing them just to get those sweet life bonuses that helped me get throught a 22 minutes battle where I lost my fucking sanity.

The only monster i truly hate is White Monoblos. Fuck that guy. Insane ramming speed and then he just 360's on your ass if you panic dive the first one. Depending on the expedition terrain generation, you will have a small desert cavern of pain or outdoor desert ledges of pain.

Then there's MHGs Hyper Silver Rathalos…

I cheesed her tempered version with an Ice SNS, mounts and infinite LBB+.

I don't care, i just want my layered armor. At least with all the other monsters i could tailor a build with my Lance that didn't get screwed.

Then Wind lazor dragon dropped in Icepwn and i had to grab my GS again.

Iceborne feels lazy compared to 4U.
