>Piss easy gameplay
How is it piss easy? Are the enemies dumb? Do they always miss? Do none of the enemies pose a challenge?
>Boring level design
Why? They try to mix things up with the level layouts, enemy placements with respect to terrain and the locations are varied with the exception of the sewer.
>Boring enemy design
Why?
>Tedious bullet sponge enemies
With the exception of the nailgun wielding heavily armored guys, and the mechs, the enemies die quickly. One-three headshots depending on your weapon, one meatshot with a shotgun or one melee attack.
>Horror element is embarrasingly cheesy
fair enough
>relies on jumpscare
Bullshit. The jumpscares were in the DLC Persus Mandate as far as I remember, there are no jumpscares in the game outside of maybe, MAYBE that one ladder section.
>Plot is as entertaining as watching paint dry
Again, why?
>Average at best gunplay
Why? Every weapon feels meaty with the recoil and damage, sounds wonderful and blows chunks out of scenery and enemy alike. Despite having three assault rifle weaponry they have their uses, from the bullet hose SMG to the large damage/slow firerate assault rifle and the burst rifle that comes with a scope. They even made the standard pistols feel like one of the strongest and most satisfying weapons to use since it feels like the best of both worlds of the SMG's firerate and the rifle's firepower.
I agree the game isn't a masterpiece as many anons make it out to be(The three weapon limit, the game should have focused on all out combat or all out horror since both feel like two separate games interleaved, the mech enemies aren't used as much as they should be, heavy weaponry isn't present, no final boss and that one stupid part where you fight shitty melee ghosts that go down in one bullet that goes on for way too long, replayability's shot by it being linear with not much secrets to find and the horror sections being unskippable, should have done more with the invisible enemies, especially mixing them up with other enemies and finally the AI isn't as smart as many anons claim it is, it's more vocal when it comes to saying what they're going to do, Monolith at the very least put some effort into having lots of voice lines to give the impression of "smart AI") but going "it's shit and it's bad just cause" is a load of ass. Put some effort in your arguments.

>Literally run around boring office corridors all game
You start the game off in an abandoned building. Then you head to some dilapedated neighborhood. Then you spend most of the time in the Armacham building which has a fair bit of different locations, it's not just office corridors. There's sewers, an abandoned hospital looking area, big lobbies, the roof of the building, unfinished areas of the upper floors of the building, outdoor areas, alleyways, streets, underground tunnels and the facility that houses Alma.
>slowmo
It's there so you can pull off cool shit, it's not there so you can play with it on permanently. Same with Max Payne.

The two things Trepang2 needs to do is polish up the artstyle and improve the AI. The stark look, strong lighting and bright slo-mo has potential, it just needs to step out of the shadow of its placeholder assets in a subtle enough way. The AI needs to be improved so you're actually forced to use slo-mo or cloak and fighting entire squads of baddies actually feels like it means something.

yep. I played for about half an hour and took notes, here are my disorganized thoughts:
>music is surprisingly good
>lighting looks nice, as expected for unreal 4. it ran fine on my budget build until a larger firefight broke out
>some assets look very unfinished and the warehouse elements with the crates and shit leave something to be desired. Later, more sterile corporate environments look a lot better
>traditional health system although enemies drop additional armor, I like how it's straight up lvl III armor plating. armor is easier to find than health
>they definitely nailed the shotgun, no denying that
>there's a strong stealth element with the dark lighting, silent crouch, flashlight and cloak, but on hard it mostly amounts to getting the drop on enemies. might be useful with shield guys that appear later on
>vaulting and melee feels a bit sloppy imo, certainly compared to fear. You can grab dudes but it's inconsistent
>surprise horror sequence a la fear that consists of running down a mirror's edge hallway while ugly looking shadows chase you and knock over boxes, good setup but currently quite undercooked
>there's the occasional flavor text drop. Implied plot is that you're a clone of some arthur vaughn guy who was being brainwashed. a few of them are just trucking manifests which I assume is just them fucking with me
>the excessive spread and bullet trails makes everything except the shotgun really hard to keep on target without slo-mo, hope they fix this
It's fucking free so there's no reason not to try it out for yourself.

>nothing fear did was new or incredible. what monolith really did was polish up half life's AI with modern tech, which is not groundbreaking at all, and praising the game just for this feat is retarded, as it is bashing anyone who doesn't go with the "FEAR BEST GAME EVER" narrative.
There was some blog post out there which explains in greater detail why FEAR was so special, which I'll just copypaste because I'm lazy
>First, FEAR’s combat arenas are circular — meaning each path you can take is surrounded by one or two covered flanking routes. These allow you to circle around the main path and get the drop on enemies, which beats taking guaranteed hitscan damage in a direct firefight. Without these you’re left with a hallway (similar to the left layout in the above diagram) that only allows you to move back and forth, where all you can do is sit in place and play peekaboo; only moving up when most of the enemies are dead. Circular map design (like the right layout in the above diagram) then discourages simple and repetitive strategies like these by giving you the opportunity to move around enemies.
>Second, the Replica AI can also make use of these flanking routes. Since no position is safe, both you and the Replicas are always trying to outmaneuver each other for a better angle. This new dynamic gives level designers more options to play around with: arena layout, height variation, player/enemy points of entry, cover density, and other opportunities for creating varied encounters can be used without resorting to gimmicks. More importantly, the levels provide the AI with options too. Without them the Replicas would be stuck playing peekaboo, just like you. “Good” AI is pointless if it has no meaningful options to use.
>Third, FEAR grants you the initiative. Before the fight begins, the Replicas will spread out across the arena, unaware of you. This allows you to scan the arena layout, set up traps, and choose how to start the fight. This not only gives you more engagement options, but gives you more courage to start in the middle of the action.
Though it admits that slo-mo brings the game down
>The flanking game is what makes FEAR great, but the slo-mo power and being able to carry up to 10 instant-heal medkits conflicts with that. Both allow you to tank damage that would have killed you otherwise. And because slo-mo energy refills fast and medkits are handed out like candy, you have a lot of resources to tank through enemy fire; playing down the flanking game in favor of a shallower yet more effective playstyle.
>Mechanics that mitigate damage (regenerating health/shields, portable medkits, slo-mo) do allow more aggressive playstyles in the face of hitscan. But these tend to have the opposite effect of encouraging thoughtless brute-force playstyles. Why think about movement if I can tank most damage anyways? To compensate, games could offer you tools to gain the positional advantage. In Crysis and Vanquish you can spend your energy for a positional advantage (Maximum Cloak/Speed, knee thrusters) or an offensive advantage (Maximum Power/Armor, slo-mo). So could FEAR’s slo-mo energy also be used for a speed boost.

>boring enemy design
You're fighting mercs in a realistic setting. The only enemy that sucked dick were the tanky ones.

>plot is as entertaining as watching paint dry
Yes, because when I play an action-oriented shooter I don't want to mow down enemies and paint walls red, I want o hear a fucking story. Retard.
<average at best gunplay
By what standards? Most shooters can't hold a handle to FEAR's fast and visceral shootouts. The only problem it had with the gunplay was that all the guns were fake, chunky bricks straight from Halo's cutting room floor. If it went /k/ommando and copied real life designs it would be the best shooter ever.
Good job, 10/10 bait.

The AI in FEAR is made to work specifically well with the maps. They aren't cookie cutter enemies like every other FPS game out there. The enemies are miles ahead of anything that has come after it, in the levels they were designed to be encountered in. This becomes glaringly obvious when you try and drop them in a custom map and watch them sperg out or worst case stand completely still. At least do some basic research before making yourself look like someone who never played the game in their life and is only touting some copy pasta they read.

Dunno if it's true or not, but I remember watching a bunch of videos and interviews talking about how while FEAR's Ai was good for its time, it wasn't particularly advanced over other quality games at the time. The main difference was that the enemies yelled out their tactics and strategies as they did them which let the player know that these relatively advanced strategies were being used which made a greater impression than other games doing the same things but without the player noticing.

Even if it doesn't have a slider or setting, it's a UE4 game so you can add some settings in an Engine.ini file somewhere to increase FOV by a lot unless they changed that recently, I haven't played any recent UE4 games.
It then calculates FOV based on screenheight instead of screenwidth. That usually multiplies your FOV by 16/9=1.777~ for normal widescreen monitors.
