There was a lot of that kind of inventing shit (headcanon) to make things "more interesting", but it's pretty clear that Skyrim wasn't made to be interpreted as much as Morrowind or even Oblivion was (Example: How the fuck can Mankar Cameron wear the amulet of kings? Oh he used mehrune's razor to reshape his own soul? Oblivion still had a few neat pieces here and there but you had to pay attention to details).

Dark Souls stuff is a combination of the lore usually having some inconsistencies from how unstable they are during dev and fragmentation.

The extra lore is open ended, and honestly pretty half-assed, mostly pieced together two sentences at a time from item descriptions and the sparse NPC dialog.
