We're going to do something a little bit different here so please read.
First of all, only list the game as a contender if you played all the way through it, from beginning to end. Second there are only four categories under two different sections. The first section is referring to games released in 2019 from January 1st to December 31. Meanwhile, the second section is in reference to games that you completed (But were not necessarily released) in 2019. Third, there is no "best game of the year", only the game that you consider to be your favorite. So, other than that, let's go wild, and see what games /v/ thought "defined" the year.
Best games of 2019:
>Game with the best premise/story:

>Game with the best audiovisual work:

>Game with the best gameplay:

Best games played in 2019:

>Game beaten with the best gameplay:
>Most favorite game beaten in 2019:
Seeing as how I didn't play and beat a game released in 2019, I guess that means I can only do the second part:
>Game beaten with the best premise/story:
Evolution: The World of Sacred Device
>Game beaten with the best audiovisual work:
Resident Evil
>Game beaten with the best gameplay:
MadWorld
>Most favorite game beaten in 2019:
Iron Man

I beat The Surge 2, REmake 2, DQB2 and Sekiro out of the games released this year. Out of those 4 Sekiro stands tall above the other two in almost every aspect.

No, I just played the PSP version. However, looking it up, the PSP, PS2, Wii, and PC version are all the same game; meanwhile the PS3/360 version is a separate game; and the same goes for the DS game (Of course).

I played the PS2 game a while back, it wasn't particularly good. Had a neat idea in that your suit had four "stances", go fast mode, hover mode, firepower mode and one last mode that I've forgotten, but the actual game was nothing special.

I suppose the best 2019 game for me would be a toss up between DMC5 and REmake2.
For DMC5 I had been waiting so long for, but it was great to finally be validated for correctly saying that DMC5 was coming for years, the fact it was getting made was set in stone for me ever since DMC4SE was announced. Itsuno said it would exceed everyone's expectations for me it was cutting it close, the Trailers gave too much for DMC5's content away, so for the most part the game actually was what I was expecting, not that that's bad at all. That is until after beating the game I discovered that Nero Regained all of his moves he was missing from DMC4, and that fucking nailed it. he beat my expectation. GG Itsuno.
I thankfully played REmake 2 on Hardcore mode on my starting playthoughs, that game with checkpoints has to kill any tension it has. I actually ended up playing 150 hours worth of REmake 2 because like a fucking autist I found out on the Resident Evil website it tracks your progress and if you keep beating the weekly challenges on the site for 10 weeks you unlock a Hunk Icon, so naturally I kept grinding the game until I unlocked this Icon for this website absolutely no one gives a shit about, just because I like Hunk. But it did at least feel cool to git gud enough that I could consistently beat it with S+ ranks and few fuck ups, the game is kind of designed to be played that way so it did it's job really well.

As for what I beat this year, I finally got around to beating Blood Omen 1 and that was great to finally get done since I love the series. BO1 isn't overshadowed by the other games at all it's still just as great, and in ways it feels more consistently good from start to finish then the rest of the series, not that the other games aren't still great, but you can tell they had to cut corners, where that doesn't feel like the case for BO1.
I also playthough through all of Rare Replay I already played most of the well known Rare games, but there were a few discoveries I made for myself that I enjoyed.
>The games staring Sabre Man were cool to play since he's refreanced in future rare games like SabreWulf is for Killer Instinct is a homage to the warewolf curse he gets, and Sabre Man is actually in Banjo-Tooie and he still has the Gold Artifact you get at the end of Sabre Wulf the game.
>Grabbed by the Ghoulies was a really nice surprise, I had zero expectations but it ended up being a charming experience, and there was nice effort put into the 100% the final challange of the game is to go though it all again with Zero power ups to help you, I appreciate that "You think your good? Prove it." for the developers.
>Perfect Dark Zero on Co-op Dark Agent Difficultly by myself with two controlers was a fucking Jank as shit ordeal, but it felt good to actually get though it all.
>Viva Pinata is pretty much the Sonic Adventure Chao garden only with less depth.
>BattleToads might actually be the Hardest game ever made, I had to abuse the cheats they let you use in the collection, If i was gonna beat that game legit i'd have to dedicate a month to that shit, the game doesn't fuck around at all. I at least beat the turbo tunnel in 1 life since that was a challenge on in the collection, but that's hardly worth much when their is a goddamn jet version of the same thing later in the game that's even harder.
Finally anyone like me who had an N64, but never played Blast Corps was really missing out, since that game is simply fantastic.

YouTube embed. Click thumbnail to play.
It's just a game about destroying shit, it has a few collectathon things to do on the side so it's fun to explore the levels, and there is a good amount of depth since if you want to truly beat the game you have to use all the different vehicles and learn to master their unique properties to get the best times on the levels.
I guess if the simple premise of breaking shit isn't enough to hold your interest, then maybe it's just not you thing?

I've played basically nothing this year but Worms Armageddon and Smash Ultimate. Everything else I've tried (Telltale's The Walking Dead, GTA San Andreas, Team Fortress 2, Metro Last Light) I've eventually just stopped playing in favor of the former two. My rig is starting to show it's age as well so new games will probably run like hot garbage even on low settings. I could use special configs like ones from Low Spec Gamer but at that point the games would look so bad it's not even fun playing it if everything has blurry as fuck textures and 10 polygons. Since I'm transitioning to GNU/Linux next year that will limit what I can play even further, I'll probably get a Gamecube controller USB adapter and just emulate a lot of stuff on Dolphin.

There was also this other retro fps called Amid Evil. Large amounts of variety with the game with each of the 7 episodes having it's own set of level assets and enemies in it. Ex 3d realms people worked on it. Out of all the retro fps games that have come out recently this is my favorite one.

Shieet. I just started actually playing all the good games this year.
>Game beaten with the best premise/story:
Steins;Gate. The premise was probably one of the most interesting I've played in a while, I really enjoyed it and had a hell of a time the whole way through. Danganronpa trigger happy havoc was a contender but Steins;gate's premise and complexity blows it out of the water.
>Game beaten with the best audiovisual work:
Persona 4 Golden. I cant get enough of that shit. (Though ys and trails were pretty close)
>Game beaten with the best gameplay:
Persona 4 Golden's actual dungeon crawling wasn't too good, but the roaming around town/social link/other shit was fun.
>Most favorite game beaten in 2019:
Trails in the Sky (particularly the first chapter). Probably the best JRPG ive ever played from start to finish. Felt like it had everything I wanted in an RPG.
Can we also get a worst game played of 2019 going?
>Worst game of 2019
I played MeiQ: Labyrinth of Evil and it was the goofiest shit. The only redeeming thing was the fact the girls all had enormous breasts. Gameplay was slightly fun but the plot was laughably bad. I would recommend playing it just to see how terrible the writing was for that game also the tits

I didn't play a whole lot of new releases this year so one of my favorite games of 2019 was a collection (the Castlevania Anniversary Collection). Really cool to see Kid Dracula finally released in English for the first time.
Most of the games of 2019 that interest me the most are remakes or rereleases (Age of Empires II Definitive Edition, Resident Evil 2 remake, Link's Awakening on the Switch) but I haven't gotten around to those yet.

If you don't already like the party games then you probably won't like 9. I do think the bosses are more varied than 8 and they give you some fun extra movement abilities that lend to more interesting exploration and areas at times. The core combat is pretty similar to the last few games. I don't remember much of the music from 8, but 9 has some great tracks and is pretty solid in general. I think I prefer 8 overall because I like the island setting better, there also seemed to be more content too or at least it took me quite a while longer to complete everything. But basically if you liked recent Ys games you'll probably enjoy 9 depending on what your criticisms are of the newer style, and if you hated the recent games this likely won't change your mind.

My critisms towards the party style is
>Bosses are very simply designed. They're all big monsters with a couple of swipe attacks and an AoE attack, and all of them can be beaten by spamming Flash guard/move
>Party members don't play that much differently outside of the damage type they deal
I did like 8 a lot in comparision to Seven and the 4 remake, especially the parts where you play as Dana during the past and her "party" is different weaponry and forms for her that give her different variations on her abilities as well as attributes for puzzle solving.
