Haven't had one of these threads in a LONG time. After 8chan went down some of you guys went to chen2 to talk about this game but even now chen2 is dead. The only big places to talk about FFXIV is cuckchan or reddit, but fuck that. Though FFXIV is in downtime right now because the patch will either be late January or February so all I've been doing in game is treasure maps or playing PVP trying to get 100 wins for the new frontlines mount.

Finally got the Pixie beast tribe mount. Its pretty cool. Seeing the dream realm go from empty to being filled with all sorts of whimsical stuff feels great. Also doing the namazu beast tribe since I didn't want to bother with it at the time.
More importantly I haven't done the Extreme primals because I just cant be bothered to and its only getting worse since everyone competent have already done this shit.

The game is very casual friendly, and unless you do Savage/Ultimate content, there is no much in the way of difficulty. Dungeons and Normal/Hard Trials are very easy (and usually obligatory to proceed through the main quest), while Extreme Trials are the middle step between Hard and Savage. 24-man trial is usually easy, although there are some spike of difficulty here and there, not helped because you have to relay on other 23 players not to be shit. There is quite a lot of side content with varying difficulty (Deep Palace, Eureka, Treasure Map, Hunts), but quite simple all of them. Its combat and RPG elements are simple. No stat allocation, no skill trees, bare bones equipment customization through materia. Class complexity varies depending on what job you pick. None of the job are complex, but optimizing and coordinating your buffs with other jobs require a certain degree of skill and knowledge. The difficulty of combat comes with learning heavily scripted fights and doing mechanics correctly while optimizing your DPS so you do not hit the enrage phases of bosses. Overall, game is simple as fuck, so you will be surprised when you find shitters that don't even know the bare basics of their classes.
Sadly, is not free roaming friendly. The game is designed pretty much as a classic FF, so you will have to progress through the story to unlock more maps. While you technically can roam all of the ARR maps freely as soon as you start, until you progress through the plot you won't receive a mount. Also, ARR's maps are quite small, and it isn't until the expansions that they become bigger, Furthermore, leveling is done mainly through instanced content, where the meat of the game is. Many of the open world maps are pretty much empty, although you may find players doing Fates, Gathering and hunting once in a while. Doesn't help that with each expansion the relevant content is located mainly on the new maps.
The Armoire system is the name of the multiclass system. You can unlock a job by visiting the job's guild or accepting quest from certain NPCs. Once you do, you only have to equip said job's weapon to change to that class freely. You can also save different "set" or "templates" of job and equipment for faster switching. Each job level independently, so if you are a Paladin level 45, and decide to unlock and play as a Warrior, you will start as Warrior level 1, but can change between them whenever you want. All jobs have their own skills, but share a pool of skill called Role Skills, which are basic skills needed for the roles (Tank, DPS and Healer). Basically, one character can unlock and change classes freely whenever the players wants, which also include Crafting and Gathering classes. You cannot change classes once you are inside instanced content (with the exception of PvP), in the middle of combat or under certain special circumstances
There is a free trial which allows you to play till level 35 for an unlimited amount of time, so you can always try it out. Warning though, SE is retarded and many of the jobs were gutted at low levels, so they do not become fun until 50-60, some until 70, so it will probably leave a very bad impression. If you want a personal evaluation of the game, I'll say it is a shit game, to simple for an RPG, but not fast paced enough for an ARPG. I like it and enjoy playing it, find raiding fun and challenging, enjoy some of its class design, the crafting system, the considerable amount of content, the art and music, the story (at times) and the lore. The way content is paced also can let the players without much to do, but it is friendly to subbing sporadically, so you buy a month, play it till you are done, and unsub until next patch that interest you hits. I'll say it is probably best to try it before you play.

Nah, just looks. The difference in stats of races is like a couple of points, they really do absolutely nothing. All races perform the same. Personally I think they look pretty rad, specially next to the other races. The majority of players go for female Mi'qote and Au Ra, followed by Vieras, with Hyurs, Lalafells, male Au Ra being after similar in numbers, and Roegadyn and Elezen (specially Elezen) being the rarest.

If you want to be Barbarian go Marauder then Warrior, literally warriors of the north from a tribe of berserkers, or from the Azian Steppes that use their inner beast, their rage and a big axe to kill shit and tank hits. Great self recovery, very decent DPS. Be ware though Warrior is a tank class, just in case you don't particularly enjoy tanking.

I'm not sure about this, at least for PvE. I now they lose Line of Sight when trying too look up certain objects if they are too close when other races don't, but doesn't really impact gameplay in any way.

Kinda hard with a weeb game like this and you'll meet a lot of faggots taking you the wrong way, but Hyur Highlander and Roegadyn are really your only choices.
The good thing is that the weapon models scale with your character so as Roegadyn playing as a Warrior or Dark Knight you get a massive looking weapon.

Yes but In order to play on the ps4 from pc for example you'd have to buy an extra copy of the game for it, it's kinda silly but yes you can play with console players and vice versa if you're on the same data center.
The game also features a world visit system so to play with friends you only need to be in the same data center, not in the same world, certain stuff like housing and free companies will be limited to visiting players but you can do 99% of the content through it.

It used to be back in the day that races were treated as classes. Some of the jank Japanese and old western mmos has races like dragons or dragonoids that had fire breath or some shit, and multiclassing was viable. But they want everyone to be the same so they boiled it down to three roles so they could be lazy on the updates. When FF11 was still popular you had all sorts of players with surprising combinations who could cover a variety of roles or specialize. It shouldn’t be hard to design a module based class system where you can play as most anything. Hell you could even play as monsters in old rpgs and do jank limited bullshit. The Secret World tried to do this but ultimately they failed because there were no real options or specializations that mattered or did weird things that spiced up the gameplay.

msq showers you in exp, combined with the daily roulette you should be able to outlevel stuff. just make sure to do all the blueish-purple quests as other anons said since those unlock stuff.
however, my advice would be to do the msq on a dps char, then level a heal or tank on the side since you got more than enough exp anyway. not only does that break up the questgrind, it gives you a feel for other jobs. the trial is limited at lvl35 iirc, but not jobs so you could level all the vanilla jobs to 35. only downside of the trial is no bank and retainer I think, so if you want to level crafting/harvesting (and if you do you want to learn all of it for the cross-skills) it will be a pain in the ass without storage.
leveling another char is pretty fast due to the bonus for being not your highest jobs, just do the challenge log and some levelquests to level 15, then do dungeons (or if it's dps just do potd). another advantage of this is whenever the msq wants you to do a dungeon or trial you have instant queue, and ofc all the time you just want to run stuff in general.

He had ALL the classes/jobs at 35, had nearly all the MGP items, and was grinding towards 1000 Commendations for the mount. The story was really good though it doesn't really deliver on the "Warrior of Darkness" thing the trailers were hyping it up to be.
Presentation is top notch as always and the music is some of the best that has ever been produced.
However gameplay-wise everything got dumber than it already was, and all the same treadmills are still in place. The only thing that has made me want to go back is the Nier raids and that's not really enough.

It's just a shame that the 8 man stuff just gets updates every 4-5 months. If you aren't into doing ultimate tier raids you can probably just unsub until the subsequent expansion drops. It's really a big flaw that there is very little to do at endgame. Up to 51 as a dragoon so far and having a blast, just beat Garuda, first time experiencing shitty groups so far was with her and the Sunken Temple, but everything besides that has been a breeze mostly.
Battling the fellow dragoon for the 50 class quest was neat, i actually employed a variety of skills like Blood Bath which, until then, hadn't really any utility, or they just weren't needed, and the escape jump which made the fight seem even cooler. Felt like my skills were being put to the test for the first time, but somehow i feel like it's the last i'll see of that

On a fundamental level it's just more content to grind. There are some perks though.
Ixal, Moogles, and Namzu are good for leveling crafters. Namazu in particular can also level gatherers. If you don't want to sit there and grind leves nonstop this can be a nice, slow burn method of getting crafters up while also earning some bonuses along the way. It also helps that you don't need to have good gear to complete these dailies for the most part.
For the rest the same kinda applies, but you have a million other options for leveling combat classes so it becomes less enticing. Your best bet here is to look up each of the tribes on a wiki and see if they have anything else you'd want to put in the effort for.
It is worth noting though, that completing all of the collective beast tribes unlocks a joint quest that brings them all together and has an overarching plot across each expansion. Usually the reward for doing this is a small cosmetic or emote of some kind, but it is a perk.
Also worth noting that I haven't played in several months so I don't know what any of the Shadow Niggers tribes are like.

Moogles unlock when you have a lvl 50 crafter and Namazu unlock when you have a lvl 60 crafter or gatherer.
I would comment on crafting and gathering, but last I checked they were getting reworked so my knowledge is likely dated. From my experience, crafting is fun, but all crafters function(ed) nearly identically so the charm wears off. Gatherers were mind-numbing.

Yep. There's quite a bit of content like that. For example, try fully upgrading a relic weapon sometime. I have maxed out the SB beast tribes though, and that was pretty painless although tedious. The HW tribes look to be about the same. It's the ARR ones that look really bad.

The entire ARR questline is a trashfire of poor writing and fetch quests. The only notable part is when Gaius declares his stance that he just wants a world of man free of manipulative gods that erode our resources. The empire is mostly stated and never shown to be evil. Every two seconds you are asked to walk all the way back to the Waking Sands. There's a million problems. The fucking Coerthas questline is the most infuriating.

Indeed Hildibrand is not part of the MSQ. It is also vastly superior, as you've no doubt found. That said you should still do some of the other sidequests. Like unlocking and completing the Crystal Tower raids. You can unlock The Binding Coils of Bahamut too, but, unless they changed something, you will never get a group for it. Perhaps a guildmate will unsync and carry you though if you really want.
I would not worry about completing your relic quest. Unless you really want it for fashion. Understand that merely creating the weapon is a bit of a sink, but it is still only the tip of a very large ice berg. Money isn't really used in 14 that much so you'll passively save up enough that eventually it won't matter.

It's because, for some reason, they crammed 90% of the plot into the last two dungeons. Which btw they are the only two full party dungeons in the entire game. Unfortunately since they are so vital the devs had to make the cut scenes unskippable, completely segregate them into their own roulette, and heavily incentivize that roulette so you can actually get a group to clear it.

You have an autistic attunement quest before the raid becomes available. So long as you're taking and completing blue quests you should come across it. It's all about the Crystal Tower in Mor Dhona.

I shall reiterate: You should only do your relic weapon quest if you want it for fashion. It was very powerful if you played when ARR was current and the level cap was 50. Now-a-days you will simply gear any lvl 50 character with Ironworks gear as it is very accessible and they will out grow it by lvl 55. You're lvl 61 due to some newbie exp boosting promotion, but stuck doing lvl 50 content. So I'm not quite sure what to recommend for gear. I guess whatever you can find on the MB for cheap. Though I should clarify, there is a relic weapon for each expansion and the reason they are such a time sink is because every patch would add a new time sink to upgrade it another several ilvls. You will still find people grinding them and a demand for any parts, like the crafted weapon socketed with Materia, not because they are useful, but because they are pretty
