This isn't a thread to talk about games that you find to be "overrated", or are popular games that you hate because of [Insert game aspect], or cult hits that become popular because of [Insert reason] but are actually rather bad.
This is a thread to talk about games that you KNOW are good, but just cannot enjoy them or find them fun.
For example, with me, the first Bayonetta feels like one of those games where everything about the game feels outstanding in how it's made, but I don't find it to be fun. In fact, in comparison to the second game, I'd rather play Bayo 2 over the first one because it feels more fun than the first game despite bring actually worse. Has anyone else played any games that feels that way?

It's pretty much any cuh-razy action game or JRPG for me.
I can understand that they are well made, and recognise the qualities that make them an excellent game within their genre, but nothing loses my interest quicker than an action game or JRPG.
For example: I know that Devil May Cry 3 is excellent; I can see that it is well made and I understand that many people love it, and I understand why people love it, but it cannot hold my attention for more than an hour or so. I just put it down and refuse to pick it up again. When I play them I look forward to the end of the level because it means I can stop playing. This is true of all games of this type: W101, Bayonetta, Devil May Cry etc. The only exception is Metal Gear Rising, and that's mostly because I love the music during the boss battles, not because I enjoy the gameplay.
Likewise, JRPGs (final fantasy games, earthbound, dragon quest, pokemon, SMT, persona etc.) bore me to tears. I can never finish them. The games are such a chore to me. I can appreciate the hard work and obvious quality present in these games, and even recognise the refinement or perfection of game systems, but its like the entire genre is incapable of producing a game that can hold my attention more than an hour.

There's DMC, Bayonetta, A Tomato, gen 2 Pokemon and maybe Gravity Rush.

Morrowind. It's not even the combat, that is fixed by having a weapon skill that isn't one digit, and having an appropriate weapon for what you invested in. No, my problem is that I am so fucking spoiled by modern WRPGs with fast travel, waypoints, and all other manners of casualization, that I just close the game while lamenting the fact that I've ruined my life in terms of enjoying older games.
I fucking hate myself so much for not sitting down and figuring it out, and god knows I'm dreading playing Planescape Torment again. Let my retardation be a lesson as to what your brain on post-Morrowind (((Bethesda))) looks like. I swear to god I never gave Bethesda any of my money, I always pirated. That's the one thing I did right.

Second: The Peach and Bowser sections where cute at first, then quickly out stayed their welcome.

I enjoyed Bayonetta 2 way less than the first game. I didn't like that they used that whole floating / flying boss fight gimmick over and over again. I felt like most of the environments were uninspired. I was even more annoyed by the little black kid and his pointless antics whereas I didn't mind the whiny little girl in the first game as much. Bayonetta's voice actress, Jen Taylor kept losing her British accent at random times. all the dialogue and story was just less entertaining overall. And keeping with the still frame cutscenes just made the game look cheap. Might as well just use motion comic cutscenes at that point. Even though I still like some things about Bayonetta 2 it's an extremely frustrating experience for me because it really should have been just as good as the first one if not better.
As far as people complaining about the short hair… couldn't you unlock her original outfit and long hair? (When I unlocked the police woman's uniform I felt like the short hair worked with that so I kept it anyway.)

I've not played 2, but I overall find Bayonetta less appealing than DMC strictly because of Bayo's moveset being dial-a-combo and Witch Time being one of the core mechanics. I've never been a fan of bullet time in video games, and I always feel like it's more or less either too rewarding or too much of a pace killer, not to mention that it also seems to play a similar role to regenerating health, which is to help guarantee that the player is able to eventually bruteforce a win. Bayonetta indirectly also annoys me on account of how many developers have ended up slapping on excessive hitstop as a result of Bayonetta's popularity, even if Bayonetta itself wasn't as bad about it.

Street fighter 3.
Animations are lovely and so is the music and production but the game isn't in anyway similar to the core game play of other street fighter games which looking at makes sense why the series pretty much went into hibernation for 9 years after it.
Parries kill fireball wars, the game is filled with so many little niche techs from mixes of mechanical quirks, oversights and what was intended that it's a much different beast then any other game in the series. Most people who are really into SF3 aren't likely to even like the other games due to how different it is and vice versa. It's a series anomaly and I just do not like it.

Oh god its so bad in Dark Souls 3. Every single boss has infinite combos and 5 string attacks they can delay by half a second just to fuck you up along with a second phase where they get even more bullshit like out of arena spell casters that can two shot you or a secondary attack that is completely independent of their original moveset.
>>Spells are now trash
They're worse than trash. If you're playing a sorcerer then you'd do more damage with a magic infused shortsword(or even a raw one) than with an end game staff while being balls deep in INT casting crystal soul spear.
Even the positioning and range aspect of spells is neutered as every boss has a full arena teleport move along with huge sweeping attacks.
I feel like the entire game has a washed out look to it. I remember the colors of DS1 and 2 very vividly but to me DS3 is a washed out grey mess.

Even DS2 with the retarded magic elevators at least there was lore and meaning to each place and each enemy and each part of the map makes sense(ex: soldiers vs giants war or how prisoners and guards are the bosses and enemies of a prison island)).

Weapons could be used identically in either hand, and power-stance let you use some weapons in tandem with unique animations. For all the shit people give DS2, the pvp was still fun as fuck with the variety of builds you could make.

Well i meant it in a bad way, since it takes some of the worst aspects of Bloodborne (linear progression, low replayability, drab areas, infinite stamina enemies) but took none of it that made BB good (Distinct weapons, Mechanics that complement aggresive gameplay, Parrying is 'easier' to read, etc) since they still wanted to add things like shields, spells, and weapon arts. So what they ended up is a half-baked dark souls / bloodborne mutt.

The whole point of Non stop Infinite Climax is that it expects you to have mastered the game mechanics, particularly "Dodge Offset" so it strips your ability of performing Witch Time (without the use of an accessory) as a crutch. A lot of people not grasping or even knowing about Dodge Offset is also very similar to a bunch of people not using or knowing about Offensive Defensive in MGR and NSIC is analogous to DMD taking away health regeneration in the original Devil May Cry. Taunts can be interrupted if poorly timed, can't get pure platinum medals easily by just using guns, and there's a somewhat fair point in the moveset reuse but DMC1 irked me more in that same department, made worse by having only 2 distinct melee weapon movesets offset by it being an older game. Haven't got a Nintendo console to play the sequel but I heard the new director shat the bed in terms of Umbran Climax and Witch Time there being made essential to play the game instead or else the enemies and bosses alike will break or out of combos whenever they want to.

You can still roll all over NSIC without dodge offset, because PKP and kilgorenot talking about the glitch, and I'm not talking about really masterful play either but just having the timings down and a few cheese strat, you can just use the EHR for free pure plat in many places and if you have any level of mastery with the MoMK many things become completely trivial.

Biggest buyer's remorse ever.
It's a fucking MMO without the online features(I bought because some retard said it was similar to a Souls game), retarded grind with damage sponge bosses, you can't die or lose, just attack randomly until the boss runs, walk slowly half the map(twice or thrice if a dragon), repeat. Yay, so fun. There is no "hunting" or strategy or any need to complex thought, you just follow shiny markers slowly through a giant empty map.
If you achieve fainting during battle, respawn and just keep following the marker and keep randomly attacking(don't bother about combo or anything, it makes no fucking difference or use), the damage sponge disguised as boss probably don't regenerate HP when you faint, I don't know, there is no fucking HP bar because a HP bar would make the battles less frustrating and boring.
Destiny also has the same retarded gameplay style(I don't know if there is a name for this kind of impossible-to-lose grinding casul shit, "modern MMO" maybe), but at least I didn't spend money to try it and it at least has PvP and real online MMO features and vehicles to move through the fucking map.

Even a bad generic hack&slash like Chaos Legion has more options and diversity both in enemies, weapons, attacks and playstyles than Automata(won't even compare with a good Hack&Slash), Automata uses gimmicks like fake 2D and repetitive shmup sequences as replacement for real gameplay diversity or challenge.
The most clear example of Nier: Automata mediocrity is the fishing minigame, the most bare fishing minigame to ever exist in videogame history(even porn flash games like Mozzoloh has a better fishing minigame, not even kidding), you press a button to thrown the bait and press the same button when the bait sinks and that's it, no reeling, no visualization of the fish in the water, no baiting, no weight, no location awareness, nothing at all.
This extraordinary mediocrity goes on on the rest of the game, it does blatantly crude everything it tries to do(and like a duck it tries to do and be a lot of different things instead of focusing in a major gameplay element and do this one good).

Daggerfall is literally nothing like the later TES games. In fact, I don't think there's another game in existence that can be prepared to Daggerfall. Imagine singleplayer DND in a world the size of England. That doesn't mean it's all that good though, you'd need a couple mods to make it playable (which is somewhat excusable since it's 30 years old and free) I recommend using Daggerfall Unity and getting whatever mods you like off of its forum. Once you've done that, you'll be left with a mindbogglingly huge game with an incredible amount of depth and complexity and thousands of completely forgettable towns and people, as 90% of all the game's content is entirely randomly generated. It can get addicting if you like the gameplay, but it's more of a neat idea that's fun to look at. Here's hoping Wayward Realms can better flesh out that idea

>as 90% of all the game's content is entirely randomly generated
*procedurally generated
As in they ran a randomizer once and dumped a whole bunch of dungeons on the map, all it means is that they put in a chunk of SET (not randomized every time) half-assed dungeons without much variety since it uses chunks like Torchlight 2. They need to make an actual randomizing algorithm for those shitty dungeons.

Morrowind isn't even that good. It's really the awkward middle child caught in between Daggerfall's immensity and Oblivion's casualness, so you get a small world with small towns (compared to Daggerfall) paired with overly complex mechanics. It had a neat story, probably the best in the series, and a really cool world, but the actual game was pretty shit

Automata is a bad looter, horrible side-quests/open-world simulator(not even the map is functional), bad RPG elements, bad crafting elements, horrible minigames, bad platformer, bad visual novel/romance simulator, bad shmup, bad exploration, bad kojimbo/2deep4u simulator, it's even a bad waifu simulator(only 1 outfit, can't even pimp your whore), even the fucking menus are bland and shit to navigate.

>but DMC1 irked me more in that same department, made worse by having only 2 distinct melee weapon movesets offset by it being an older game
Okay hold the fuck up there buster, each fucking move in Alastor and Irfit is carefully thought out and creates a well developed moveset for both weapons, Irfit can fucking smash through enemies and bosses like butter by using kick13 or charging your attacks, optimally deal with airborne enemies and bosses with DT but lacks the mobility and consumes a lot of DT, where as Alastor has supreme horizontal and vertical movement, extremely quick and even quicker in movement with DT, hits multiple enemies but lacks pure damage. They both serve great purposes and I would argue that the counterparts in DMC3, some base moves were stripped away unless you were running swordmaster. But DMC1 isn't perfect obviously, like the lack of quality of life features that later games had like mission select, instant weapon switching (outside of menus) and so on but the fucking game is way better than Bayonetta.
But the thing about Bayonetta that I highly dislike is the fucking motorcycle sections, the left stick controls throttle and steering, this is some ancient bullshit

How come I'm pretty decent at DMC yet I suck ass at Bayonetta and get the stone medal all the time? I just can't seem to react to enemy attacks, it's like they have no visible wind up. Am I missing something?

Turok 2, for every step forward it goes two steps back
Being slower and more labyrinth like instead of open really fucks the game up, Turok 1 was pretty maze like at time, but certainly not to this point.
Level design and some game mechanics are just really not that good
God tier animations and weapons though, would recommend a playthrough, just not my cup of tea due to some heavy flaws.

It can get so much worse than just that, the WiiU version has motion and stylus controls for those sections, and they're even worse than you think.

There is some windup, outside of a couple attacks from high-tier enemies / enraged ones / higher difficulties, but those you can deal in other ways.
Depends on which enemies are giving you trouble

The Jetstream Sam DLC was 3x better than the game itself. If you could play as him all game it'd be perfect.

I can fully recognise RE7 is a good game, and I just don't want to play it. It's not fun. Everything is dirty and disgusting, and this nigger wont stop chasing me.

I hate DMC3/DMC4 out of irrational resentment even though I've never played them.
Several people I know have become nearly addicted to it, to them it was like the pinnacle of gaming, because of how much freestyle options they gave you and allowed you to express your creativity like in no other action game. And eventually they want to make their own combo MADs too. But because of how perfect DMC3/4 are, no other game can compare. Trying to get them to play other games was a futile effort. They couldn't stop comparing the games they've played to DMC. And eventually they'd get so high fucking level and laser-focused on DMC that they've effectively alienated themselves from the rest, because there aren't that many people who care for high-level DMC that much. Especially if they went to talk to other people who played DMC casually, they'd feel left out because nobody gave a shit. DMC became like a fucking drug to them, and other people will have a hard time talking to junkies.
And then came along DMC5 which everyone was hyped for, but to them it was a clear slap in the face. High-level DMC5 couldn't compare to DMC4, even though this was supposed to be the definite action game. You could see pros on Twitter bitching about the lack of inertia all the time. But nonetheless, the public liked DMC5, and the concerns of the pros were disregarded as elitist whining. And so sets in the despair, because the likelihood of any other company making a game on par with DMC was highly unlikely, especially with Platinum having gone down the shitter, and stylish action games require a lot of resources that indie developers can't realistically hope to accomplish. The DMC pros unintentionally ended up worming themselves into such a small and overlooked niche, and now they can't go back because they can't possibly lower their standards. This got so bad that one guy I knew quit video games altogether and picked up another hobby instead, out of fear that the game would disappoint him at a high level if he put in a fuck ton of effort, or that he will end up playing it to death to the point of burning out his dopamine receptors.
To me variety has always been the spice of life, and seeing someone flat out give up has been such a slap in the face to me that I've irrationally always held this against DMC. At the very least, I hope someone ever makes a game that will outshine DMC3/4 to drive a stake through their infectious nihilism.

Are you sure they're not just autistic turdburglars? I always have a go-to game. From WoW, diablo 2, path of exile, dark souls, heroes of newerth, TF2, left for dead, vermintide, each with 500 to well over a thousand hours. And some single-player shit like dark messiah I've finished half a dozen times. It's just nice to jump into something and get going without having to worry about learning the systems and shit. Are you sure it's DMC and that that's not just how they are?
3 is pretty fun btw

Thread is about games that are good, anon.
DS3 is painfully unfinished even from a bare technical level: almost every single enemy in the game has the wrong damage type on their attacks, defaulting to "physical" damage instead of being properly assigned slash/thrust/strike damage.
Good thing the Cinders mod exists.

Any RTS or Turn Based Tactics game.
I'm bad at strategizing, so I don't like them. I have zero actual criticism of games like AoE, og Warcraft/Starcraft, etc. I just don't like that kind of gameplay and have never once had any inclination to try it out beyond the few times I have at friends houses, and Advance Wars.
So I guess you can throw those series I listed, into the list for me.

I agree, I also hate R6, CS:GO or any aim-heavy/1-shot kill nu-FPS, I rather FPS where movement and fast play is more important than pixel-aiming and using the lag to hitscan enemies while still covered.
