I'd like to but I don't own a Vita or a PS4. It looks neat and it'll probably be the first thing I'll play when emulation for either of those consoles exists because it really looks like a neat duology.

I do.

Pretty unique games. Flawed, with a combat system that feels a bit "janky" at times, with some serious issues with its plot were the "main ploBotspeak" is ignored until the end of both games, focusing instead on "side stories", that may or no may be that interesting or well explained, or being kind of repetitive at times. Yet its gravity control mechanics are so fun, coupled with great music, art direction, having both very humorous and cute moments and very dark twists which surprises the player and varied gameplay does give quite a charming game. If anything, even it is not that good, I would say it was made with a lot of hearth. Maybe its me, but after playing the second game it felt like a third was planned, but ended in the second game for whatever reason (probably low sales). Also the Moon boots were the best thing ever.

Wasn't Kat supposed to become kind of like Sony's mascot and her games flagship titles? Why do you think they fail to really sell? In my opinion the games were kind of niche and the flaws too significant to reach a wider audience. Also perhaps being a Vita title first ended up dooming the games.

Been playing the original for the Vita again here and there when I have a few moments.

Are there any good Youboobs/Webms that really break down the lore and meta of this series? I feel like if you're just following Kat's story/the main plot - you're only getting like half or a third of what's really going on.

>Why do you think they fail to really sell?

Because they didn't push the games adequately? Similarly with the Vita and all the problems sony themselves caused it, admitting to having fucked up is frowned upon in this industry when you can just as easily pass the blame and claim "no audience" and have people that aren't familiar accept that excuse.

>>16786498

Sony owns the rights to a lot of games that they just seem to up and abandon for whatever reason. Often it's lucky if they last a generation, let alone even get a second entry.

Really fuck Sony, they have so many good properties they haven't done jack shit with them. At most the best you can expect is a fucking lazy remaster.

>>16786781

> I want GR3

Me too anon. In an hypothetical scenario where GR3 is a reality, what changes would you all make? I personally think improving the combat a bit can go a long way to make the combat sections feel better and less repetitive, more enemy variety and perhaps a new power together with jupiter and moon would be pretty allright. Also probably not put-power ups and mechanics so late into the game as GR2 did. Story-wise I think there are a lot to be explored about the mythology of the game, and the lack of lore can be advantageous as writers now have shit ton of freedom to create a new story. Also some more interactions with the environment would be nice.

GR3 never ever and even if there was one, it would be trapped on PS5.

>>16786895

I honestly wouldn't even know how to improve on GR2, the game has typical open world problems. Combat (probably) can't get much more complicated/better because of the gravity mechanic and because the areas you usually explore are safe zones and you generally always want open air-eas for gravity manipulation funs.

It's like if you make it more combat orientated, you need to completely rehaul how exploration works and if you focus on improving environments you have to make sure to keep the "free" feeling while making vain attempts at making a god even stronger. I truly love the games, but if I were doing a direct sequel, I wouldn't even know where to take the game. Maybe more could've been done with touch screens, but it's too late now, isn't it?

It's a shame that the game is fun only if you put in enough time to learn the initially weird gravity controls. Getting used to "falling" everywhere while also aiming attacks at enemies takes a while. I also think they weaken Kat too much at the start of the game; while you can level up her stats pretty quickly, in the beginning it feels like she can't go very far without running out of energy, which is frustrating.

They needed to playtest the early game experience more and do some tweaking, the game itself is fine once you adjust.

It's charming and clearly a labor of love but it has some serious flaws, the second game especially.

>events leading up to the start of the game are only depicted in a completely separate anime OVA (i only learned this after I beat the game and looked at the wikipedia page)

>start with the mining ship is really dull

>later spends too much time in Hekseville which we already saw in the first game, without any noticable changes

>that whole skyscraper section of the other city that's only really used for sidequests (i suspect because the framerate fucking tanks while you're there)

>sidequests are completely inconsequential and get tedious

>story goes completely off the rails towards the end

>section near the end with all the abstract blocks sucks ass

>dlc sucks ass

>still does that retarded thing from the first game where as you get faster the field of view NARROWS instead of widening like it logically should to heighten the sense of speed like in every other game ever, presumably because the framerate is already bad enough and having even more shit on screen would just make it worse

The art direction, music and world design in general are where both games shine. I'll never forget looking up in the second game, seeing a bunch of rocks floating in the sky, and flying up to discover they are in fact far away islands, a whole other massive section of the city that you can just fly to without a loading screen. No other game has conveyed such a sense of scale for me.

Narrowing the FoV might be for gamefeel purposes, to simulate how in real life your field of view decreases as you get more G forces acting upon you. Other games increasing it is counterintuitive and mostly relies on the limitations of the projection normally used in games, where as FoV increases objects at the edge of the view move faster. It's mostly used as a crutch to make you feel faster than the designer wants you to be for balancing purposes, same way they prefer making the sound of a shotgun "sound stronger" rather than having it function realistically.

Gravity Rush would rather give you actual speed and the feeling this would actually give you, than fake speed and the thing you've been wrongly led to associate with it.

You should be a car salesman, you've got the talent to bullshit flaws as features. Call me cynical but I don't believe there's any reason for it other than to help the framerate. Even the remaster of the first game on PS4 tanks hard when you start shifting at speed, and it otherwise runs much better.

Gravity Rush 2 wasn't exactly a superb seller to my knowledge, but I see it around with enough frequency where I live that it shouldn't be rare. It's usually fairly cheap as well at sub-$20. Though, maybe that's just where I live, as there seems to be a comparatively high interest-base for niche stuff here, and prices on even hard to find games aren't always shit either. I hate to suggest using them, but you might consider if your local Fucking Gamestop or equivalent thereof can transfer a copy in for you from another location, as that would still enable you to pay in cash. Just be sure to have them actually ask to ensure it's not just disc only if you care about that. Keep in mind though that without having jailbreakable OFW on the PS4 (or already being jailbroken) to allow save file editing, a number of items and costumes are either no longer available due to the online being kill after only a year and a half, or would require a lot of raw searching for treasure chests (I say "either" as I'm not sure if the latter, if you can pull it off, can still net you Dusty Tokens).

A number of costumes are also given as old save bonuses from playing the first game, namely the formerly DLC mission ones. However, only the remaster is capable of giving them, not the Vita original, and that's where it's apt to bite you in the ass if you want 100% costume completion (minus the preorder bonus costume, which is obviously long unobtainable). SCEA did a very limited physical print of the remaster here, which now goes for stupid prices and better lets them control profit off the cheaper digital version; the PAL print supposedly works just as well for it and is more available and cheaper to import, but that's still an additional expense and one that would require a card. Unless you live out there, that is.

Sony, especially SCEA, really didn't treat the games very well. Do not buy a PS4 for just one game, let alone two or three (assuming you'd also spring for Bloodborne; PAL got a physical print with all the DLC bundled on-disc that North America didn't get), and do not give Sony money.

Trying to post this again, let's see if it actually works this fucking time.

>do not buy a PS4 for just one game

Unfortunately i already did, wasted $250 on it but then took the game it came bundled with (some SPOATS shit) and traded it for FOTNS lost paradise on a store called cex. I also got bloodborne (standard version though), kingdom hearts 3 and a game called dragon's crown pro solely because it came with a pretty steel case and a pack of cards that i will never open. It's not that much of a waste, the controller also works on my PS2 and PS3, and once i'm done with the ten or so exclusives the PS4 has spodermen, the one with the ugly redhead, some racing game, loser simulator 5 royal, the one souls game worth playing beside demon's, the aforementioned kenshiro game, not-yakuza 7, kat's second game, disaster report sequel featuring kaijus, ??? i will put it back in its box, store it in the basement and bring it out once CFW becomes available for it, just like i did with my PS3.

Glad I got a chance to snap up the physical release of GR:Remastered online while it was still cheap as fuck. Was actually going to wait a bit on it since I already had the cartridge for the Vita, but as soon as I heard how SCEA fucked the game over with a limited run I dropped the cash. Got it new for like $30 with free shipping. Even if I knew just how much the price on sealed copies would have inflated, I still would have opened it. Fuck scalpers. Games are meant to be played and enjoyed.

>It's rare in the third world

That would explain things. Is there any chance there's a native Amazon where you are where people might sell exports on? Just saying since, at least here in the states, you can buy Amazon gift cards with cash and then use the code to put money on your account. That way you don't need an attached card. Maybe Ebay might work as well, if they take prepaid Visas and you can convince a first world seller to export it.

As to the PS4, don't get me wrong, it does have games, but the combination of so many games being multiplat these days, lacking of actual worthwhile exclusive, and Sony tanking any goodwill they have with their niche fanbase as if to purge an undesirable element, it's apt to really leave a bad taste in your mouth. There's a reason a lot of people have opted for PC and/or Switch this generation (though I don't trust NoA, even if at the moment they're allowing more than most; not after the WiiU/3DS era of localization).

>N3DS or an old Switch

Make sure you check hacks.guide for specifics on each. Not sure what the new 3DS is actually capable of CFW-wise compared to the older models, and if flash carts are something of interest (would almost certainly require a card to import, but would save you an assload in the long run if the original DS library is of interest), compatibility there is also something to consider. I don't even know if the N3DS even has any other actual exclusives to the model but Xenoblade, and even that's a port of a Wii game.

I got mine maybe two years back at Fucking Gamestop (they're a last resort, honestly) for I think $55. Last I saw a copy around here it was $100, and that's even with this part of the country often being cheaper than other parts I've visited and checked game stores in.

>Games are meant to be played and enjoyed.

Indeed. And especially fuck those "Grader" faggots that seal games away as an investment.

I do, but with the massive fuck up of the story in GR2, I don't want a GR3 unless it retcons 2. I want more explanations to the questions we had in 1, not new questions in 2 that maybe/sorta/kinda get answered at the end. That music is top tier though, and it part of the reason I enjoy floating around Hekseville, or replaying Resonance of Fate. It's also why I'm very excited for new Sakura Wars, despite it not being a SRPG. Kohei Tanaka is very good at atmospheric OSTs, even if the songs themselves aren't necessarily something I'd listen to outside of the game.

You're alone on this one, anon. I kinda like this. I don't think it's better than long-hair Raven, but a short-hair Raven is fine, too.

>>16792837

Personally, I'm glad we went back to Hekseville. I think that city has a lot of charm and being able to go between the old and the new areas was really cool, imo. I also liked that Hekseville was a horizontal circle while the Jirga Para Lhao was a vertical circle. Just neat little touches, even though you can bend gravity however you want so it doesn't really matter.

2 improved the controls just enough that it was a little more fun to control, but the story and atmosphere of 1 was so much better. I wish they had just finished the original concept of 1 instead of trying to force another full game out of 2. Plus, now Kat is no more.

>>16794285

Fucking same. I think I got mine for $20 or $30 and someone sent me a picture of the game selling for $100 on Amazon at one point. I'd probably never sell it, though. GRR has so much sentimental value to me.

Tanaka also composed for Legend of Legaia, if that's of interest.

Kat's flagship status probably died off soon. Gravity Daze was in game development hell and started off on the PS3.

The game needed to be much more difficult. It was only a ways into the Delvool Trench when the game actually became difficult. That's when it became fun to desperately fight actually threatening mobs with constant style switching. The rest of the game had no combat difficulty. Unless you consider the camera during the Missing City fight to count as an enemy.
