The free Kumbhira is nice, here's to hoping she's almost as good as her SSR counterpart press X to doubt. In regards to the christmas characters, it does feel like Seruel was the dud prize. The shield is nice, the two turn -70% earth cut is really good, along with the typhoon crest bonus, but the only other source of crests is a summon that's recent, and building those up is too slow. Plus, this game has a definite aversion to swapping out characters when you need to.
Did they explain why they removed the character type bonus from the cosmos weapons? (Attack, Balance, Defense, Healing, Special)

He's weirdly underpowered especially for a limited unit. The numbers on his second skill are pretty abysmal, his crest generation is shit (not that wind can do anything with those) and he basically robbed us of a Gawain rebalance. There is also very little content where he could be useful. The highest level earth raids are Gilgamesh and the easiest phase of Four Primarchs, neither of which needs a 70% earth cut for two turns.
He could be used with Katzelia for null and off-ele fights but then you create a whole new problem: C.Seruel is shit without Katzelia and Katze is shit without monkey. In this team, C.Seruel would also provide very little compared to all the wind units that could take his spot.

No official reason given. My guess is that, with the 50% base stats, up to 10% cap up and 20% CA DMG, it would make it easier for f2p teams/grids to OTK EX+ which they may not want so they removed the types from the weapons.

The society event at the end of January will give Zeta's 5*, similar to how 000 gave Sandal his 5*. You need the event to 5* her, so if you miss it, you'll have to wait for it to be added to the side stories.

Grynoth's Pact changed to boost def based on HP (Garrison).
Feel No Pain (level 95 support) changed. As long as Vaseraga is not in critical health, his buffs are undispellable, he is immune to debuffs, and he will survive lethal attacks at 1 HP.
EMP support ability changed to def up/hostility up (was: chance for skills to activate 2x)
The drop rate from tier 1 raids will be buffed.
Quests that don't give rewards (ie event missions) will have the option to skip the rewards screen.
1 more dama bar will be added to the shop
The arcarum summon shop will be getting the visual update that the class weapon shop got (ie. filling up the bars of the tiered stages of upgrade on the icon). It will also display the items you are missing on the first screen.

I have a question for the GBF pros here.
I'm considering making a demi Varuna (which I can MLB) grid with what I have above. I can fully uncap Europa's weapon with the chocobars. My current grid is below and I have no idea what else to do to improve it.

For your first question, yes, each character would only be able to take a max of 5k damage per hit. However, this won't cap how much damage you can take per turn. If an attack hits you like 40 times, the damage won't be lowered at all unless one or more of the hits is over 5k, and then only that hit will be reduced.
For your second question, supplemental damage is damage that gets applied after all other damage calculation is done. If you would hit 100k before supplemental, you would hit 130k after it. To my knowledge, it applies on every instance of damage, so it would increase the damage of all skills, all ougis, and all echoes, by 30k. A 30% hit to max HP is considerably large, if you have 30k HP before equipping it, you would drop to just over 20k after equipping it, so you would need to weigh the options yourself to see if the 30k would be worth the massive cut.

The HP cut is actually a non-factor as you get things like your Opus and some other HP boosting weapons due to the way Belials HP cut is calculated. As you can see from my screenshots, the team where I used Gorilla only has 3-5K HP more than the one where I use Belial.
Normally, HP cuts are applied last after the other calculations are done (weapons with Tyranny like the Qilin bow) but Belials cut is calculated at the same time as the HP boosts. I'll give you an example; I have 10K base HP and 100% boost to HP so I have 20K HP during gameplay. If I have 10K base HP, 100% boost to HP and a weapon with 30% Tyranny, I would end up with 14K HP. 10K base HP, 100% boost to HP and Belial would give me 17K HP. You can view it as Belials HP cut being additive and the other HP cuts being multiplicative.

I'd like to add something to the other answer. Belial as a main summons caps all Elemental damage to 5K. Plain damage will not be capped. You will die instantly upon joining Level 250 Lucilius as an example.
Another important thing to note is that all plain damage that is based on your Max HP will not account for the 20K HP cap. This means that if I have 40K HP, Belial caps that to 20K and I get hit by a move that deals 50% of my Max HP in plain damage, I will die to 20K plain damage.
This is important to keep in mind because most late-end game raids, that you would use dark for, deal plain damage in some form be it via debuff, Max HP based or turn-based.
So all of that combined with the fact that if you use him as a main summon you won't get the 30K supplemental damage, makes Belial a pretty bad main summon.

Bad: The lowest Nightmare drops only 1 Zodiac Arc instead of 1 to 2, which is a huge slowdown to the overall farming effort for me.
I got 2* Arkab last year, and it doesn't feel like my performance against Xeno Sagittarius has hugely increased. I can notice an improvement, but it's making it harder to solve the final battle with a chain burst. My Fire grid needs more attention.

I was going to put in a potential time for a H&Q train, but I'm one seal short. Hopefully when I hop on enough raids I can get enough color seals for the beast seal.
Outside of that, I noticed that for buffs, there's hardly anything for fire. The only allies that have standard ATK/DEF buffs for all allies are Magisa and Zahlhamelina. Everyone else has either a Fire ATK up for all allies, for a bunch of buffs themselves, for shittons for debuffs on enemies. Anila is the exception, but I don't have her. With this in mind, would a support class be better for fire teams? What class works best?
For Fire, I was thinking of getting Brahman Tridents for my eventual fire spear team, but Medium attack boost isn't as good as a large boost? Is the difference that massive even if the team is compromised of spear users?

Magna fire is in a really bad spot right now. The build to go is basically get Anila because she carries hard and makes Magna almost workable.
I'd actually advise people use an elemental summon (Shiva pref) as a main summon and use 3 EX mods with whatever shitty Magna mods they can scrape up, because that might actually end up better than whatever a Magna build has to offer.

If you have Agni you should work towards an Agni grid. The two main supports for fire are Anila (for massively good buffs) and Fraux (decent debuffs, deceptively good healing) though I'd say Zahlhamelina isn't bad either. There isn't any good or bad class for MC, just use what you think you need for the situation.

Uncap your Eden. Ivory Ark is not good for a developing Zeus grids.
Crit weapons in general are a bit of a trap. You need multiple crit weapons so your damage is consistent and it only works against null and on-element fights. Crit is usually only used when you can reach near 100% chance or out of desperation (i.e. AES).

The only thing is check if reroll anon has any spare accounts. Those accounts are fresh after the tutorial (so play the tutorial I guess) and have only been used to roll during the free draw periods, so you can pick an account with some of the characters that you want. Better to start with some free characters than leaving it to rng and maybe never rolling them.
The only advice I'd give for starting is save your crystals for the 6% draw banners at the middle of the month and the end of the month (grandefest and legfest). Drawing outside of them isn't recommended.
With how the game is for new players, with all the side story crystals nowadays, it might be possible to save up 300 draws easily and just spark a character, too.

Don't use any gold bricks on leveling up SSR(gold) weapons unless its a really good GRAND weapon which you may have to look into.
I also personally believe its better save your rolls for a spark(300 rolls) since you can get much more characters with it that way instead of just trying your luck on the roll, but as a beginner you can probably roll a couple times to complete a full SSR team composition.
Also when you spark you get to choose any character that's on the banner that you spark on which is really good for targetting super rare characters like the zodiacs.

I've read that I need to unlock Dark Fencer ASAP, so I've switched over to an Enhancer, and my attack power has dropped through the floor because I'm being forced to poke my enemies with an allegedly-sharp stick instead of my firm, throbbing axe. I got some fancy pistol off of Tiamat that I've stuck in my grid, and I'm wondering if the grid "weighs" the stats on the mainhand weapon more than the rest. If my dagger is slightly ass, is it still worth upgrading, or should I hold out and lean on my party until I get something proper?
Also, is there something I should be rushing to do as a daily quest? I figure that story quests will be around as long as I need, and one of you told me to get Spaghetti Syndrome done ASAP, but is there something like "Do mission X 3 times per day" that I should be keeping in mind?

Firstly, there are daily quests to join event raids with the event. Some events have dailies, others don't.
You can also do the coop dailies for blue sky crystals, though you'll eventually get a lot of those, so it's not too urgent, but still worth doing.
The main daily thing to get is Arcarum. The unlock quest is a bit later in the story (I think around chapter 30), so no point rushing for it now, but it's a dungeon crawl minigame that you get a ticket to enter once per day (you can stack the tickets up). It gives some of the best summons in the game and 10 free characters, so starting to amass the daily tickets early is definitely a good idea.

Pretty much no weapons other than SSRs (gold border) are worth upgrading, so it isn't worth investing anything in your current weapons unless you somehow got an SSR or your inventory is full.
Raids have limits on how many you can do a day so you'll want to run the important ones daily, but you have a bit before you'll unlock those.
If you want to rush/skip through the current event story there's a daily mission which gives a draw ticket, which is nice.

Alright, real talk. This event is the best written event we've gotten for a while, solid lore and pacing, cool bosses and such. I still have some complaints about plot holes though.
Since The Society and The Foe are basically puppets used to try to create an artificial arms race, why do they try so hard to get rid of the weapon users? Shouldn't they be supporting what are basically their most powerful cards, especially since their ancestors purposefully modded the weapons to be this way?
Also, Grace being able to kekaku dorii the whole way through is just bullshit. She didn't want CENTCOM to get to the moon for whatever reason, but fully expected Issac to go and also hoped he happened to bring the knife and also knew they were going to scan him and bypass the scan with otherworlder bits in his stomach and ALSO know that Issac would be able to figure out that the knife opens doors because???*

I used to do that with my brother, but the bastard would never let me play with anything. You can play "together", in a sense, that when you call for help in raids you have 4 choices - everyone (ie, anyone who hits the assist button and sees your raid, friend (people you're friends with but never talk to), crew (your crew), and twitter (invites the whole fucking world to your raid, unless your raid is something gay like Twin Elements).
What you'll also find, is that in events like the current one, you have missions to join raids by other players 5 times, and if you have a sister, you can use eachother to get that done really quickly. And in terms of normal progression, you can host daily shit for eachother rather than giving away vmvp to some stranger.

The Demonbream FLB might be the most impactful thing for the meta this month if they decide to enhance the HP hit on summon. Right now it eats 25% of your parties current HP. If they increase it to about 40% current HP, Stamina Zeph dies (except for OTK and wanpan).
It would also be interesting if it were to consume 25% Max HP instead. This route would be a lot more awkward however. You'd need two summons to be deal more damage than Stam, it would take more time and you would throw yourself past the 60% mark which is where Garrison is most effective.
Enmity Zeph has a lot of advantages over Stamina Zeph so I'm really hoping that they don't disappoint me again like they did with Tezcat though knowing Cygames, I'm not going to hold out hope.

There's only about a day left until Versus releases so I'll take this opportunity to go over a few recent reveals and some rumors.
RPG-mode is divided in 6 chapters (with possibly an extra chapter which unlocks hard mode). There seem to be about 50 quests in total, not counting anything hard mode might bring.
It uses the same quest interface as the gacha game. You go to an island and then select a story quest, free quest or boss battle (raids). Lumacie, Valtz, Auguste, Albion and Amalthea are the current confirmed islands.
Quests have additional objectives that reward you with weapons or other goodies. As an example, clearing Colossus with an A rank or above gives you a Colo cane and using 2 supers gives you some skill fodder, etc.
In addition to getting weapons from drops, these bonus objectives and Sieros shop, you can also get them from an in-game gacha. This is probably were you'll be getting most of the weapons with skins from. Vii weapons are probably drop only.
The tower of Babel (Co-op area in the gacha game) is also present in RPG mode. It seems to be hidden in some respect.
There are 4 types of training mission. Basic, Skill practice, Combo and Character countermeasures. They're pretty self-explanatory except the countermeasures one. It's either character specific match-up tips (How can Gran get in close against Metera?,etc.) or general tips when playing against a certain character (How do I survive Charlotta?,etc.).
The Japanese version does not have any English support but it is rumoured that the HK version not only has English subs but also the English Voiceover. The HK site also has character names that are closer to the original than the localization (Fastiva instead of Ladiva as an example.)

It's all in JP. There is a small chance that the day one patch might add an English menu option but I doubt it.
We'll probably see menu translation screenshots on launch day so you can use those as a cheatsheet. I'll try to post any that I come across.

No word as of now. I don't believe we even have an official date for the European release yet.
I don't think we'll know until the game is out. It wasn't stated anywhere that the uncensored costumes were in the Asian versions of the game and it was only found out later after people started to unlock the option for the slightly more nude Zeta and Metera. The same will probably happen with the other versions. You don't get anything worthwhile for pre-ordering so you might as well wait.

The Hong Kong and Singapore versions are out now and have full English and Japanese support (including both dubs) so you could always buy one of those for your Bloodborne-machine if the US version ends up completely shit.
The only things to keep in mind is that you need to link your GBF account with the account that bought Versus and you can only get the 5K crystals and outfit for the Mobage if you play through the RPG-mode using that HK/SG account. You can play the game with your other accounts just fine, it's just the bonus items that are the problem. DLC also needs to be bought through HK/SG PSN.

Doctor: A good soloing class which can also be used as a viable alternative to Warlock if you want to use a dagger and you can't cap in the fight or if you need Vaccine. Generally favored by Dark, Light and usable for Wind and Water.
CCW: Not at all necessary to make the class usable. It's more of a niche tool. Devilry is usually the best choice. H.Charlotta helps a lot.
Mainhand: Your standard good dagger MHs (Guns are generally not used as much). Parazonium, Eternal Love, Reunion, Ivory Ark, Frostnettle, Ultima, etc.
Runeslayer: A one trick pony. Requires a lot of work to do anything outside its niche. It's all about making a team that can abuse Dragon break as much as possible. Favored by Wind and Fire. You need specific characters and sometimes even summons to make it work. Nio for Wind and Esser for Fire.
CCW: Required. It takes too long to build up magic circles without it. Humanity is usually the better emblem.
Mainhand: see CCW. For non-Dragon Break, use anything you have.
Kengo: Used to be the de facto Ougi class but there are more options nowadays. The 200% meter and Tri-slash are the main draws of this class. Fairly versatile. Favored by Water and Earth.
CCW: Not required but it allows MC to Ougi a lot more. Make at your own discretion. Devilry is the emblem of choice.
Mainhand: Any Katana or Bow with a good effect on ougi. Ixaba, Sky Ace, Ichigo, GW katana( for memes).
Glorybringer: All-round great class if you want MC to be a bit of a selfish attacker but you can also get MHs that are more utility focused.
CCW: Used to be the best MH for some elements but it has been powercrept by other weapons. Not really worth making.
Mainhand: Every Opus and Xeno weapon this class can wield is a good choice (Last Sahrivar is an exception if you don't need water switch). Some others are: Blutgang, Hollowsky, Crimson Sapphire, Sky Ace, Windhose, Ixaba, Ichigo, Murgleis, etc. Check the wiki for weapon skills that you may want to use.
Soldier: Best DPS class. Soldier is fairly versatile thanks to the various bullet effects. Mostly used for racing but is a competent soloing class. Bullets are an absolute pain to farm. Favored by Dark. Really good for everyone else. Make the CCW for whatever element you like.
CCW: Required. Soldier barely functions without it. The divinity emblem on the CCW is the better choice and your main damage source for racing. Optimised bullets for racing are: Enhancing Shell, Gold 2 (or FMJV if you're lazy), IronVx2, Elemental point III (the one that buffs allies) for whatever element you use.
Mainhand: See CCW.
Nekomancer: Really niche. Used for its first passive (Echo based on MP). General gameplan is to not Ougi ever with MC so you keep your MP high. Moonshadow helps with that. Not much else to say. Favored by Fire and Light.
CCW: Not really worth the cost. Divinity is alright.
Mainhand: Any staff. You won't be using your ougi so take something that helps your grid.
Tormentor: Quite expensive for day-to-day use but you can solo anything (except LuciH as fire). Versatile and a powerhouse. Tools of choice: Both smoke bombs, Assassin's blade, Extending and Deceleration powder, both Fatal daggers, Stalling knife, Recharging, Anti-cloth for whatever you're fighting, Runner's High+, Apocrypha+, Twill coat, Leiomano and Recharge. Budget options are Assassin's blade, Runner's High+ and Apocrypha+. Fatal dagger OD is generally your first priority after the budget options and whatever you need for your strategy. Favored by Dark and Wind. Still a strong class for every element.
CCW: Not required but a strong option for every element. It allows Tormentor to ramp up faster which in turn allows the class to be more usable in general raids.
Mainhand: CCW or the same general idea as the Doctor MHs.
Rising Force: Dethroned Kengo together with Chrysaor and now they all share the ougispam title. Rising Force (the skill) is its main draw over Kengo. Unleash the Fury is the most common sub-skill. Mosh and Jet have their uses but they should be used at your own discretion. Favored by Earth and Water. Decent for everyone else.
CCW: Not required. It's mostly used as a substitute if you or your chosen element lack a good harp MH. Humanity is the most common choice. The other emblems require a specific gameplan to use optimally.
Mainhand: Both Xeno harps, Earth Opus, Unheil, Ultima, Last Storm, Spring Whisperings, Harp of Everlore, Another Sky, etc.

I also remember that as a new player I noticed that Violet Quest stopped dropping rainbow prisms after 10 had dropped that day. Campaign Quest has no such issues.

Orchid and Jeanne would be the first to go once you get a bit more established. Rei's S1+Baby is a pretty good combo until you 5* Six. You can let Rei ougi once at the start of the fight so her debuff is up early and you get more benefit from it before she starts standing still with S1. Vampy is good all-round but Orchid could take her place for certain situations.
S.Zoi would be your biggest powerspike but Vicky won't be coming back for a while after this year so that is a tough decision.

Her S1 works really well with Babu since she wants to ougi a bunch and double strike basically gives her double the amount of meter per turn. Thanks to her self-buffs, she also has high innate DATA, cap up and an echo which are all enhanced further by double strike. Babu might be the second best option in Dark to target with Rei's S1.
Rei's S2 is pretty good if you want to do something with three specific frontline characters and you can use the 100% TA and/or 20% cap up.

The Rising Force CCW is kinda meh overall but it functions well if you have no better alternative. The emblem choice is more of a preference thing. Humanity is the more popular choice and Devilry is second (I don't think I've ever seen anyone use Divinity). If you use Jet to Jet a lot then Devilry, If you just stick to other skills, Humanity.
An important thing to note, Jet to Jet drains 5% meter from your party members at the very end of the turn. That means that they start their turn at 95% meter thus unable to ougi without some form of meter gain. This can be a skill, summon or, more commonly, an MC ougi.

I'm glad that we're getting IM@S again. For those that don't know, the designs for the IM@S girls in GBF are originally from the CG April Fools event mini-game. It's been a while since the last IM@S collab so we're behind on a lot of CG Dice designs. We haven't had a character appear without one of these designs so it's safe to rule out those that lack them (Riamu, Kozue, Yukimi, Nao, etc.). That being said, the collab happens sometime in May so who knows who might become a viable candidate.
Unvoiced idols won't appear in this collab either so that rules out some more (Slimegirl Kurumi, Mummy Layla, Clarice, etc.).
Aside from the examples I embedded, there's also Fairy Nana, Dancer Frederica, Blacksmith Rina, Archer Momoka and many more.

Dark actually benefits a lot from the Anubis staff if you're running a skill dmg heavy build, now even more relevant with Woodcutter. I'm talking characters like Vampy, Tanya, Vicky, those sorts that proc skill dmg for free.

I figure I should get a weapon that will be useful for a long time and improve the grid immediately I get it. I haven't started building any primal grids yet. My draws in this anniversary period might send me down that path in some element.
I know enough about the damage modifier types to see that this isn't simple. At least there's no hurry to choose the free weapon, as the ticket won't vanish for still nearly a year.

You almost always want one magna mod in a primal grid (or a normal mod in a magna grid) due to diminishing returns. Hades also has a very easy time capping, so you'd be better off with something that breaks the damage cap rather than another plain attack weapon.

Just farm what you can. You can skip pretty much everything past the Damascus Crystals, Draw Tickets and Arcarum Points. 99% of event weapons and summons are trash.

Don't join 30 man coop rooms. If you're using the raidfinder avoid whatever people are farming to prepare for the next GW, currently Ca-Ong explodes so fast I can't even do a Bonito+Attack.
Use Coop and create small rooms or rooms with a rank cap to ensure you can get enough honors per run to get a blue chest. 2x 15 Man Europa trains a day are going to net you more actual loot than a single 30 man one.
All it takes is some patience.

I did a discount spark on the Flash Gala. The spark lucky in that I got a 100 draws discount total from the roulette and unlucky in that the SSR rate was only 4% instead of the supposed 6% with 12 SSR total. Sigh. Though the first 80 free draws from the first three days of the gala contained only 2 SSR (Princess Long Ji summon and De La Fille gold moon), which is slightly lower than the expected rate for a non-gala banner, so there's that. The rest of the spark exceeded that level.
I drew two SSR summons and both were Princess Long Ji even though she isn't even supposed to be on rate-up. I also got her earlier this year. It's like she likes me or something. She could end up in my grid, I think.
One new Grand character: Mugen. I look forward to seeing how broken he is in actual practice.
Grand dupes: Mugen dupe, Lucio dupe after having sparked him during the New Years' free draws. I now would have a basis for a Zeus grid if I had Zeus.
Other new SSR characters: Summer Teena, normal Cagliostro, normal Beatrix, Cerberus.
Gold moons: De La Fille, Summer Yuel, and normal Cagliostro.
New SR characters: Summer Cassius, Summer Leona, Ulamnuran, Sophie, Summer Friday.
Sparked: Grimnir.
