Everything went to shit past 2007 as vidya gayming became more mainstream and thus more commercial. And no the dark age didn't end in 2014 - the only thing making post-2014 gayming somewhat tolerable is because developments during the past 5 years have made it easier than ever for indie/AA devs to find a market for their ideas and kike investors to back them.

Video games began their decline in quality somewhere between mid to late 00s and haven't recovered since. To me it's 2006 simply because the train of actually fun AAA and AA games that didn't attempt to nickle and dime the player, or standardize some sort of DRM feature ended by that point - modern dildo tactics on the consumer started around this time. This era (which laster until the early 2010's, which I'll get to in a second) is probably best known for brown and blood shooters, the death of RTS, triple A companies copying hollywood when it comes to writing and story and generally becoming more safe, not really experimenting with new ideas. This is also the period where gaming was becoming popular among normalcattle.
This would be the core "dark ages", which lasted up until the new decade where I think it morphed quickly in what we know it as today. Even as far back as 2012 left leaning politics were being pushed in gaming conventions and forums. Everything from 100$+ DLC collections, hamfisted politics, DRM and general anti consumer practices, sanitizing multiplayer and getting rid of "toxic" communities, kickstarter and the failed projects that never went anywhere, AA being killed and the rise of indie games. Note that not everything that happens in this time period is bad; the indie scene gave us a lot of great games, selling your game and being given a platform has never been easier etc.
This supposed dark age hasn't ended yet, but it's showing signs of dying in the upcoming decade. I do believe that by 2023 we're going to see another culture shift and depending on the elections and other outside events, it might be bigger than both the last ones.

This pretty much. What changed between 2004 and the later periods was that as publishers got bigger and dev teams got more bloated, the devs that were passionate about videogames were replaced by randoms.
90% of quality vidya is in the AA, indie and freeware sectors now, because thats where the people who actually enjoy videogames are, and Im not talking about the cancer cliques who thank Marx and Engels for the vidya awards. AAA still hits the mark now and again but its just too bogged down by shareholder expectations.

Forget for a second that most new games are trash, we do now have easy access to nearly every game in history for free over the internet. Couple this with how far emulation has come and I feel like things could be a lot worse. I could be wrong but it must have been much harder to get ahold of foriegn games in the 2000's with fan made translations. All this stuff will still be around even if the industry crashes and burns and this site will still be here on some form of hosting or another alternative will arise.
