Can someone tell me what I need to know to get the most out of this game? I had it as a kid, but it just didn't captivate my interests. Now I find it to be immersive and D&D-like which is keeping me interested, but the gameplay is very awkward and slow. I'd like to direct the fights a little better as the characters seem to just roam aimlessly around the rooms getting killed. Combat classes should be at the front lines and magic users should be on the periphery healing the wounded and casting offensive spells. I don't want my magic users jumping into the fray with daggers swinging as that is just dumb. I'd like any tips on how to make this game more enjoyable.

I have no fucking Idea. I discovered this as a random rom download, loved the overworld music, and died in the first dungeon/house/castle that I went into. I want to get back into it someday too.

Drakkhen is quite the oddity

the Amiga and PC version (gog has it) is the best in terms of control, while the SNES version automates much of what was originally jank

the original has more story and content while the SNES version has much better music

and the infamous I Love You monster is much more smoothly animated in the original while its voice is replaced with sexy moans on SNES

you might benefit from watching some youtube videos on how to play if you can find any

either way, try out the PC version for comparison

I finally beat the game, but there's no way I could get through this game without an emulator. It's just too damn tedious and slow to play on a console, and this goes for grinding as well as navigating around the overworld and dungeons. The game also makes no sense. Didn't care. I just found a guide online and did what it told me. Set the emulator speed to max and just sat in the overworld while battles came and ended, causing my party to level up insanely fast while I ran errands, did chores, made dinner, etc. Now I know why I stopped playing this game as a kid. I love the dungeon exploration, though, but everything else is just bullshit.

There's a sequel released under the name "Dragon View" in the west. Not sure if it's better or not.

Unrelated nip sequel kind of like the japanese wizardry releases, from a glance it looks better but that's a given with a lot of japanese releases.

I played Dragon View many years ago and loved it, it's one of my all-time favorite SNES games. It's nothing like the first game though (from what little I played of it, I hated it), other than the 2.5D overworld and fantasy setting. It's more like a spiritual successor to Zelda II, in a good way.

Playing it now. It's really good! Smooth gameplay in the side-scrolling parts and engaging battles. Same 3D outer world, but it's not too hateful. The shopkeeper likes me :)
