Control was so mediocre it hurt to play. It amazes me how a TPS can not have a cover system, and include telekinesis, a dash, mind control and flight and still play like complete ass solely because it's a sort of metroidvania and fights are barely designed as much as they are thrown in. What the fuck happened to Remedy? Did Kojima Productions infect them too, with the appeal of hollywood thots and DEEP STORY?

Getting Ring Fit for Christmas, found a bit of a deal on it, that seems like it should be good fun. 2020's looking better than this year did because it has games I'm actually excited for, being Brain Age, Animal Crossing and Postal 4.

Also Phoenix Point "released" in December, although from what I've read it's a Total War/Firaxiscom "release" where the game is super buggy and is also barely complete compared to what was promised to backers.

Curious about Death Stranding, will probably pirate when it releases for pc
Astral Chain looked interesting but a tad too anime and also cel shaded which i dislike, so pass.
Like the aesthetics of River City Girls, i'll try it even though the premise is pozzed as fuck.
Control looks interesting too but not enough to give it a try any time soon.
And that's all i cared about.

Control is the definition of nieche appeal. Its got 3 things going for it:
1. Environmental destruction is fucking INSANE
2. Combined with the telekinesis mechanic you can rip out a sink out of the wall, nail a guy on its way to you, and then nail 3 more with a well placed shot, after which you use the corpses to beat their friends to death.
3. It got the not-SCP vibe going for it and a great atmosphere
If you got a thing for "does one thing really, REALLY well" type of games, it can get pretty fun.

I really like telekinesis so I'll probably like Control because it has a lot of cool stuff for that. I decided I might as well play all the Remedy stuff. I've played MP 1 and 2 many times, did Alan Wake for the first time and now moved onto Quantum Break. Shame its so cutscene heavy because the time powers are pretty fun. Control or American Nightmare is next, just not sure if I should bother with AN.

The atmosphere in Control is excellent. The ideas are excellent. The gameplay is utterly mediocre and barely fleshed out,

Code vein is pretty good, worth at least one run through if you like similar types of games. Don't go in expecting Souls though, it is very different. The character building is based around blood codes, which are like classes, and skills from those can mostly be mastered and used with any other code. This gives you a lot of freedom and lets you switch up your character at any time. Character levels just increase health, stamina, and add a little attack, but don't lock you into/out of anything so you can even go through at level 1 and still have access to everything. The main problems are probably length and some mediocre level design. Even doing all the extra content the game isn't that long, maybe ~40 hours. There is ng+ that carries over everything and increases difficulty, but doesn't change anything else. Most levels are quite linear too without much of interest in them. Overall I like it but just wish there was a bit more, it feels unfinished as is.
Did anyone play that new Shantae game yet? I didn't even know it existed.

I played this with a friend. It was pretty mediocre. The worst part is that the bosses you fight are randomly generated each playthrough, so if you finish the game and want to fight all of the bosses, you have to keep playing the game over and over until you are lucky enough to have the game spawn the content for you. The game isn't fun enough to bother doing that, and bosses don't reward you for killing them additional times, so there isn't any point.
I'd describe the game as a boring Hellgate London, and I actually liked Hellgate London.

I accidentally got the best weapon in my first mission, the gauss rifles. There are no weapon tiers, just sidegrades. I had nothing to look forward to until I quit playing. Soldier deaths are more random than NuCom's "that alien walked through a wall and hit a 2% hit and crit and killed someone instantly". Aliens will throw grenades at you through obstacles, but you cannot return fire at them or throw grenades back, because you cannot throw grenades through walls. You can also just sit there for minutes aiming at the same target, because each time you enter aiming mode, the alien's idle animation freezes, so if you're patient, you will always be able to fire at a monster's weak point. The game also allegedly has "learning AI", but it pales in comparison to X-Com Apocalypse aliens changing tactics entirely based on combat data, since in Phoenix Point, it mostly boils down to:
>Aliens get headshot a lot, start wearing helmets
>Aliens do most damage with X weapon, just bring a lot of them
Anyone who is considering pirating Phoenix Point, I'd suggest you just wait to see if the game is finished. If Gollop disappears yet again and leaves the game as it is, it's just shovelware. The biggest issues are ingrained in the engine, so not even mods can fix it. I went and played X-Com Apocalypse after that ordeal, and had a much better time.

Surprised you list Nintendo mobile games as big-title releases (unless they do make huge revenue for the company). Masters is a waifu gacha with the best thing being the model rippers posing and rigging animations for the characters. That and the slew of Rosa art on pixiv. The game seems to have long stretches of tossing out gems for rolls unlike Tour's content dripfeed. Tour feels very 1 step forward 3 steps back approach with 2 decent ideas oh reverse and trick and reverse+trick track variants and having themed outits and kart parts while gating a huge chunk of content behind a monthly sub and wanting you to fork over a ton of cash for drops. There's also no sense to grind and zero means to regardless. Basically both games are fishing for whales but Tour definitely is more blatant about it.

Why do the models and pokemon for a mobile game look better than the main series?

>Why do the models and pokemon for a mobile game look better than the main series?
If you're talking about Sword/Shield & Let's Go, I think it's a case of lighting/shading. The Switch games add more gloss and highlights around the models and colored shading/umbra. Masters appears to base its models off of Sun/Moon, and model rippers off the 3DS titles noted how detailed those were for a low-res portable. Take those models and put them in HD and they still work, and the simpler shading with thin outlines keeps the anime look intact. The faces are all texture as well, which might make it less likely to have some odd shadow cover polys around like nose and mouth.
It is a case of how lighting can truely make a difference. To take Mario Kart Tour as an example of another blatant up-res'd 3DS game , the simpler lighting makes it feel like a downgrade from MK8.

I've played the first few levels of Remnant, I dig it. Ammo management requiring good aim and the boss fight was very intense and enjoyable, although I can feel it getting stale quickly.
As for PP and XCOM, It's a terrible shame. I really want something that's a bit more streamlined than X-COM, but not too simplistic like the Firaxis games.
Did XCOM2 modding go anywhere besides Long War 2?

More about Phoenix Point, I'm amazed they went with a free aim system instead of something like Silent Storm's aiming system where you can aim at limbs, each limb having a hit chance instead. Free aiming is bullshit, it's a neat idea but it slows down the games too much.

Hell no man, free aiming is great, you can do shit like destroy cover with one soldier to have another kill the enemy behind it, look for points taht enable particular abilities that you discover through autopsies and disable enemy weapons.

No what I mean is that instead of letting you manually free aim, just give the player like a list of what to shoot at. Head, cover, limb, whatever. Just have it as a list or something delectable instead of free aiming because, at least with Valkryie Chronicles it made the game so slow.

But anon, that kind of aiming doesnt give you the ability to fuck around with your shots, like for example, i knew a guy was behind a glass panel in a synnedrion town, so i aimed at the glass with the heavy weapons guy, used the mag dump ability, and destroyed the glass with the rest of the bullets going through and killing the fuck.
Besides, you can just not use it and let it play out like in the original x-com.

Well 8chan did go down just before the rush of shit for Christmas/Black Friday.
Also NFS Heat is alright for a racing game (not like we have much in the way options anyways).
Borderlands 3's story is fucking railroading bullshit that seems to exist only to hype up the villains who really wish they were Handsome Jack and name just reminds me of a better Calypso who was here first. Gameplay is improved over 2 though, so there's that.

I got it shortly after release. It's surprisingly in-depth for a simple RPG. There is a lot to discover, and tons of things unlock over time. I've done almost 30 active days of the adventure mode, and I've "run" running in place about 25 miles.
Just don't overdo it, drink lots of water, and be prepared to do lots of squats. Every day is leg day on Ring Fit Adventure. **Oh, and be careful not to let the ring slip and Ring Fit you in the dick.*

So Pokemon, I think it will be like YGO games from now on, all pokemons exist but only a certain amount will be featured in every subsequent game and the bank/home will be the only place to have them all.

Game is surprisingly good for a AAA arcade racer, especially given NFS recent history. It's got a lot of missteps in UI/UX, and the drift challenges are fuckin busted, but the racing is straight up good and fun.
