Tales of eternia:

All the camping skits has been removed. Meaning a ton of character building and generally fun scenes has been removed.

Working Designs, especially in the Sega CD era. They like to play around with the game's internal stats to make them "harder" (Or in most cases, break the game to be near unplayable.)

I'll never forgive them for what they did to Lunar Eternal Blue & Silhouette Mirage. They changed LEB so that it cost magic exp points to save. And every time you saved, that cost more exp than the last time. In SM they changed the money system so that all the shop items cost WAAAY more than what they where in the Japanese version. This forces you to "cash bash" every mook enemy to afford one special weapon. This made a fast play game into a slow tedious affair.

Ace combat 3 International.

Here's a small list

>The entire story removed from the game

>The Japanese version of the game came in two discs. The international versions of the game only came in one disc.

>The Japanese version has 52 missions, along with a story branch and multiple endings. The international versions only has 36 missions, and the story is linear with only one ending.

>The anime cutscenes found in the Japanese version were replaced with text slideshows with a bunch of infodump on what was going on about once every ten missions.

>The Japanese version has intelligent teammates fighting alongside you in battle. The international versions removed the intelligent teammates, making almost all of your missions solo.

>The Japanese version featured a deep plot. The international versions replaced the deep plot with a generic plot instead.

No one here has made an updated list because people can't read the NISA forums anymore (NISA nuked it) and no one here wants to play NISA games. GameFAQs is probably the only place that would talk about the issues but its a gamble. Still, I consider NISA worse than EA because they're ruining games I like. At least EA has run out of IPs to destroy in the west. NISA can still ruin anything from Japan and are now fucking with Falcom games.

Abyss in particular isn't that bad, and it's 8-4 we're talking about, even. There are instances of rewrites, but within reason (e.g. the cooking skit where instead of Luke calling Anise with a -sama honorific, the subs say that 'he will do anything she wants'). Xillia was shakier, but it did slightly improve in some terms (Gin/Origin turning into Spyrix/Spyrite, instead of confusing players with a name from and old Tales summon spirit). When it comes to arte names though, shit is laughably bad. X2 ups the ante in the worst way.

Lack of voiced skits in Abyss was most likely Bamco being cheapskates but they finally learned to voice them… starting with fucking Legendia of all things. Baby steps. Oh, and they just had to fuck it up by not voicing the CQs. Even the undub can't restore voices since the scripts excised all voice calls. Fuck.

AT2 is legendary indeed. Lines left untouched, the battle graphics being messed up, scripts modified so that effects don't work in scenes, the whole Hymmnos rendering fucked up, and to top it all off, the Raki bug.

Suikoden 2 had an especially bad translation, and bugs not found in the original nip version.

>The perhaps most important character in the story besides PC's name changes in the middle of the story from Jowy to Joei, and then back to Jowy

>Random bits of dialogue were left untranslated, displaying as gibberish; pic related

>NA version introduced a bug that mangled the name of the imported S1 PC

On the plus side, suikoden fans are especially powerful autists, and their combined autism has created a version of S2 based of the PAL version that fixes almost every issue and miscellaneous bug.

If anyone was to make a updated version of this, I'm pretty sure that alongside making it up-to-date some of the entries (like first two Neptunia games and Rhapsody DS for example) should also be updated with more info.

Hadn't known there was a pastebin dump. Looks like the author, or at least uploader has made some other pastebins since then, but yeah, it's noticeable that he hasn't bothered returning to edit/update the NISA one past 2017. Makes me wonder if he'd been writing from personal experiences and stopped bothering with NISA (as anyone rightly should), or was just archiving things other people had noted and the sources don't care.

From the Nep thread:

>HDN, HDN Mk2 and Victory: NISA cancer.

>Re;Birth 1 and V-II: Translation is alright, no worries from these ones.

>Re;Birth 2: Not obviously bad at the start, but gets much worse as it goes along: in particular Neptune and Ram were screwed hard during localization. However, there is a Re;Translation made on our very own board (see above links).

>Re;Birth 3: Better than the original NISA translation in Victory but still quite a lot of cancer. Main game has been retranslated, translators still required to translate DLC content.

>All of the spin-offs: Varying translation quality. These range from cancer to mediocre. Recent releases have been somewhat better overall.

Both Re;birth 2 and 3 have translations for PC and Vita, and I think the DLC might be done by now? Not sure. Also your second image is from Producing Perfection.

As for that other Pastebin I'll confirm the occasional Japanese CG appears in Danganronpa 2. The jump hitbox thing is supposedly related to the Monomi mini-game. Also this misses the splendour of how bad the V3 translation is. This is the obvious one from it.

>>16781615

I have to wonder if the western team was stuck working within the technical constraints of what was present in the Japanese version at that point. Considering the fantranslations of Tales of Phantasia PS1 added text boxes for the skits, I'd assume it would also be feasible to have done for Eternia if they were allowed to request implementation of such out here, and would have probably been easier to work with than having to weigh more English voice work (the quality of which most people consider pretty low). This is, of course, assuming it wasn't Namco just being lazy or cheap, of which it's not like they haven't been; Legend of Heroes Gagharv trilogy being a key example of both at once.

Eternia's PSP port could have been a chance to rectify it, or even redub it. But either Bamco felt PS1 sales were poor enough here, or it got caught in SCEA PS1-to-PSP port ruling for western releases, because either it never came to North America, And while PAL actually got it, Bamco couldn't even care to publish it themselves there. Instead Ubisoft did, they bought the rights to the existing English script and audio, didn't care to translated the skits either, but did introduce a game-ruining bug into the first one or two print runs, as if PAL Tales fans should just expect to get fucked over by that point (being denied every entry short of Symphonia prior).

Not that it excuses it being cut in the first place, but I'd think it wouldn't be too hard for fans to rectify at this point via hacking. After all, Phantasia PS1's patches managed to implement hacked in text frames, calls, and timing to sub the skits. Sadly it's never happened. Eternia remains rather forgotten and underplayed (which I wouldn't be surprised if that's given working on the skits low demand), and there's no active English fan translation groups working on the series for a few years now anyhow.

>>16782449

Yes, Square-Enix is lazy, and cheap, but the bigger issue is they're also fucking retards with what they spend their time and money on with the series. Someone high up clearly thinks the "lel so fahnny" accents Dragon Quest VIII had were the selling factor for the game doing so well here. Only, they don't seem to get that accents (if they have to be used in the first place) work best as audio with the text left legible, and thus don't work out nearly as well in a text-only script. So they get the game's main content translated, and then dumped even more time and money on a thoroughly-unnecessary-yet-deemed-completely-necessary "culturization" of all the dialogue in a way that makes it harder to read, and then decided they didn't want to have to maintain the cohesion in the party chat as well, either because of of yet more unnecessarily-additional costs, or because they figured not many western fans even bother with party chat to begin with.

Credit where it's due, the fanbase raised enough of a (justified) stink that they've actually kept the party chat in subsequent games they brought over, for now anyhow. But it doesn't change the fact they eternally fucked the western release of IV DS, and while there's a fan made patch to strip the accents away, it doesn't re-implement and retranslate the party chat. And while on the topic, Square gets to use its absence from the DS version, which they fucking caused, as a selling point for the mobile port here, being that they actually left them in that time.
