Seriously, fuck this thing.

No matter how many time i calibrate this thing, it fucking sucks, I have to sometimes literally use a part of my fingernail to force this thing down if it doesn't want to function correctly. Why couldn't Nintendo just move the ABXY buttons down a bit, and add a slightly smaller circle pad?

Shitty hardware for kids that don't know any better. Imagine if Uprising had come out on the Wii? I still think about that every god damn day. That shit would've been actually playable without inducing wrist cancer. Why did you buy one though? Virtually no reason to buy it when it came out. It looks like ass, plays like ass, and emulators exist. So OP, why haven't you refunded your purchase yet?

Only old ones. The only place they surivive nowadays is Thinkpads and they are actually useful if you're primarily on the keyboard, and in the case of the 3DS you don't treat them as moving like the C-stick: It is pressure-sensitive. Not OP, but I recently bought one, because I was intrigued of the dual screen and 3DS capabilities, I heard the emulator is a piece of shit that barely works and I wanted a device to play games while holding it in my hands. Illogical post-purchase rationalization. There's no difference between holding a controller with a screen in your hands or a controller while having to look at a screen detached from the controller. Such a desire can't be a logical one.

The only place you should emulate handhelds is on handhelds because that element alone is a major advantage over emulators, and that's when you're not dealing with shit like having to input touchscreen controls with a mouse. Also a modded 3DS is very versatile with its own decent library, GBA/DS backwards-compatibility, and so on.

That's a lot of assumptions to make on something you only know one side of. You assume all those things to be true but you don't actually know. Why portray your assumptions as the truth as if you had done the research and presented me the evidence? This is essentially scamming. This is what we would call post-purchase rationalizing. I don't get it. The second implication doesn't even make sense as a greentext. The third one has a double negative.

>>16775021

>but replication

Why replicate mediocrity? As I said. The 3ds is mediocre hardware for children that don't know any better. Why would you want to (fully) replicate it? Do you not understand the purpose of emulation is not to replicate, but to improve the experience? This thread alone has someone complaining about the c-stick. Do you think that replication of such features is worth bragging about? If not why do it? I truly don't get if you actually believe the shit you're spouting to come of as something convincing or not. I honestly wonder why, even after I pointed out your hypocrisy you continue to act as if you are truly enjoying your purchase. I'm simply stating (objective) facts about the mediocrity of the 3ds' hardware. It was mediocre a decade ago, it is still mediocre now. You got sold and overpriced gimmick of which the main features are perfectly replicable, improved, on any hardware.

>and will always be sub-par to the real deal

This is not a logical follow-up on the earlier (part of) the sentence. You expect me to argue with someone that doesn't use logic?

Some of us actually get out you know either to see people they know, or having to take lengthy boring trips. Even around the house I can play my handhelds where I want without needing to be at my desk though. Portability isn't some minor detail, and power matters jack and shit to having fun games unless you're some graphics whore.

Also OLED screens might be lovely to look at, I have a Vita as well and generally use that a lot more than the 3DS now. At the time though it made the system more expensive and bulkier, does result in lower battery life (TN also last a bit longer than the better-looking IPS in the case of 3DS), and OLED at the time was still somewhat in development, as you can see with Vitas that have been used a fair bit and have the noticeable darker "stains" when showing blacks.

That is good news with portable systems. The more sophisticated they get the easier it is to emulate older games. That said I/O is something to be desired. Half the time I/O input like built in keyboards compromise form. You can't put a Switch Lite in your pocket.

Handhelds will never give you full control over your gaming experience. Neither do consoles but that is for another thread. I do think there's a niche for portable gaming. Hell there's a niche for porting games to non-gaming computers. People will make games out of anything despite the limited I/O. The experiences do come down to the individual games themselves. Again, you can emulate on PC or more powerful handhelds down the line. I don't think handheld gaming should be dismissed completely. I'm mostly disgruntled at the free to play casinos in disguise on mobile. I know good niche games can exist on "mostly" anything. Bad hardware is still bad hardware.

there's not much of a point to portables over home consoles, other than being easy to carry, as whipping one out in public instantly outs you as a pathetic loser manchild. moreover, the downsides are numerous:

>multiplayer requires multiple consoles (sometimes even game copies)

>artificially short life (working hardware won't boot without battery)

>non-replaceable controllers or display (have to dismantle the whole thing to swap something).

I'd say portable consoles are closer to crippled desktop replacement laptops than actual portable devices such as radios, PDAs, or mobile phones.

Wrong and fuck off. If you game on the go you're a casual shit. Learn English first. Like holy shit. The word sophisticated doesn't mean what you think it does. It's like I'm talking to the translation team of Soleil.

I like to actually play video games. I would never play them on the go. It's such an awful experience. Can't even play multiplayer. Your post had nothing to do with mine. I'm not sure if you even meant to reply to me. It's at best a poor man's wikipedia article. It's full with ignorant retellings of myths long debunked and you'll never fucking amount to more than a child if you game on the go. Like watching movies on your phone. I don't care how much easier it is. I never said it wasn't easier than it was a year ago. It was never hard to begin with.

Gaming on the go means you're a casual fuck that either can't afford the real deal or you don't have anything better to do when you're out and about. If you have nothing better to do then settle for a 3rd grade gaming experience you're either mentally, or physically a child that can't go without his bleep bloops when he's supposed to be out.

Absolutely not. If the display, keyboard, and/or battery kick the bucket, you can hook up external peripherals and run off mains varies by model.

>Except for much better colour

What use are pretty colors if your screen develops develops a defect within months (pic related)? Of course back in the CRT era it was a much smaller concern as static UI elements were avoided like the plague.

>portable element is again, a heavily useful feature, I sometimes play Doom when I go see friend with mine and have no need for a full tower PC.

You're playing docked, not on the go, which just serves to prove my point. There's no point to portable consoles with batteries and integrated controls if you're gonna sit down at home to play. Carrying around a bag with a GameCube+screen accessory, the AC adapter, and a controller would be much more practical than a Vita, especially for multiplayer.

>Absolutely not.

Then it loses the main reason you even use a laptop. Also most handheld systems allow replacement parts.

>What use are pretty colors if your screen develops develops a defect

What I notice on mine is the black "stains" that only show up when showing black, on my main system they're not so bad. I'd need to run an actual screen test to determine if it's affecting more than that but there is not noticeable burn-in like static watermarks would do for that (or CRTs).

>You're playing docked etcetera

I use my portables in many places and enjoy not needing to be tethered to my desk or a power point, and it doesn't take much space to take with me. The only multiplayer I need to BYO for is GZDoom but my laptop is what I use for most everything non-gaming so that goes along with me too. About the only thing I do play docked is Switch because it sucks as a handheld.
