I like some things about Unreal World but playing a game like CDDA scratches the survival itch (though admittedly not as well - I wish winter was harsher in cata) while also providing a lot more in the way of character customization.

Funny, I was just searching for a thread to shitpost about E+.
I picked it up again after a long time and updated from 1.6 to 1.9, and now the balance is all fucked up. I love a lot of the added stuff, but I hate how the guy running it keeps changing the balance around and then fucking with other stuff to balance his balance changes, etc. My biggest problem is how he decided that dungeon boss rewards should scale by depth instead of difficulty; I got legit mad when I cleared a surprisingly difficult dungeon in my updated file and only got 6k gold and junk equipment. It's like for every thing the author does right, he turns around and does some asinine bullshit. He introduced tax prepayment items so you don't have to drop everything and journey to a tax box every month then turned around and made taxes operate off of held money instead of property and fame.

Depends on how beginner-tier and how idiotic you want it. DoomRL is probably the single easiest "real" roguelike to jump into. If you like Japanimation cartoon drawings, consider Izuna or Izuna 2 for Nintendo DS.

You could jump in the deep end and just play ADoM or Nethack, but I think something Mystery Dungeon style might be good to start with like Pokemon Mystery Dungeon or Shiren the Wanderer. DoomRL, as has been mentioned, is freeware and also specifically intended to minimize rogue widgetry to make it feel more fast-paced.
Alternatively, Elona doesn't have permadeath and it's freeware, so you can screw around while you figure out the system (which is mechanically largely based on ADoM).

Did CDDA update again recently? I know in the experimental there are things like Mi-Go slavers.
I ended up building a mobile base in my last playthrough which went pretty well. I know they were going to work on base stuff for the next update. My one complaint about this game is how they want "realism" which is just a word for ruining fun.

Has a bunch of mental and body systems to concern yourself with, gives me IVAN feels, have to study found books to even start dumping into particular magic and weapon schools. Seems to have proper paper doll equipment too which I'm a bit autistic for if an RL is going to go graphical.

Cattails from swamps are a source of plant fiber.
It's far easier to find a random farm house/rural house and dismantle sheets/pillows/curtains.
Alternatively you can cut seatbelts out of cars (no mechanic skill needed, just a cutting tool.) for a bit of rope then dismantle the rope into string and string into thread.
Last resort is dismantling rags (you can find bloody rags while foraging and clean them with water.) it takes an hour and yields a little thread.

Tablets, game watches and MP3 players are all good for quickly boosting morale, and you really want at least one item with an alarm clock function (tablets work). Everything else goes in the trash unless you actually plan to craft some electronics (and even then, in my experience you're usually better off finding a console to take apart).
If you're on foot, the only really essential tools are a knife, a crowbar, a mess kit, a flashlight, binoculars or equivalent, several lighters or matchbooks, and a decent gun with lots of ammo. A multitool and a rock will suffice for most early-game crafting, and at some point you'll want to find a tailoring kit since your clothes will probably be torn to shit by then.
If you have a vehicle you'll also need, in order of importance: a welder and goggles, a hacksaw or toolbox, a rubber hose, several solar panels (or a second vehicle and some jumper cables), a jack and maybe a wood axe. Eventually you'll also want to install, at the very least, a battery charger (found in RVs or unfinished houses) and a rain funnel. Kitchen units, fridges/freezers and welding rigs are nice to have but not essential.
If you keep freezing, just break into a bunch of houses and you'll find some good clothes sooner or later. Soldier zombies are usually a reliable source of very warm clothes, if you can kill one.
Butchering large animals gives you an insane amount of food, limited mostly by your ability to preserve it. Otherwise just go into town and loot every canned good in sight, by the time you run out of cans you'll probably have access to at least one reliable source of fresh food.

As far as I know, the removal of chicken walkers is because the realismfags insisted on making them able to oneshot anything in sight, gave them a huge vision radius with perfect night vision, and shot down every proposal to give the player some means of escaping them. Other than smacking zombies with a good strong melee weapon, what's a smart use of resources to bully them? Obviously no fighting might be the best (unless training skills) because you can avoid loss altogether. But some carry stuff like food or ammo that incentivizes kliling them.

I mean it depends on what you want. Blade weapons are always popular and have a fairly sizable crafting pool. I used bashing weapons here and there. There are some custom guns you can craft not to mention the bows you can make which are pretty good. As for loot? It depends on the zombie you are looking at. Scientists have a random pool of CBMs you can get on their butcher table, I think it includes all but its random. Shocker zombies and shocker brutes just run also have CBMS, then there are Bio operators which also have CBMs, nice ones too.
Kevlar Hulks can be butchered for Kevlar, Skeletal Juggernauts are huge pains in the ass but drop shitloads of tainted bone which has its own uses.
Then you got the rest like Triffids who can be butchered for plant marrow and the like. Fungus have oil sacs that can be crafted into cooking oil, which can then be used for other things.

This one's actually going really well. I found a fireaxe really early on and the first town only had a handful of zombies, so I was able to secure food and water and a few furniture very easily. I bumped into a Zombie Soldier and tried to beat him up 2 or 3 times, but I couldn't quite do it so I kept leaving to heal. Unfortunately, the last time I didn't realize my speed had dropped to 40, and he chased me all the way across the bridge and he killed me with 4 hp remaining, should've just swung once more.

You can use the build menu to disassemble and build furniture, yer gonna need a screwdriver and a hammer. Its rarely actually done but you can theoretically build your own house from scratch. The question is for what purpose when you could use that time to add more murder to your murderwagon.
The upside of properly disassembling furniture is that you get a larger total amount of materials dropped vs smashing which has percentage based drop tables.

If you change your starting location to "safe place" you can choose to start in a lakeside house or even an island lighthouse. The lighthouse feels kind of cheap to me but on the other hand you have to hump all of your loot across the lake and if you don't luck into a motorboat somewhere you're stuck doing that by canoe. Boats are also kind of wonky; on one file I had to debug-teleport all the goddamn time because I kept getting launched from my boat into the middle of the lake for no reason, complete with error report.

I'd like to see a decent 3D roguelite. As much as I like roguelikes that take place in largeer areas, top-down is really not a good option for anything involving vertical environments and/or long distances and having three dimensions to play with could be really fun. I really don't even know why this hasn't happened already; XCOM is already 80% of the way there.

Graphics have zero mechanical impact, along with proper mouse control and other UI niceties, I consider them the absolute least significant deviation from the Berlin Interpretation.
UI refinements in general are something the genre badly needs, considering shareware RPGs of similar mechanical complexity are infinitely easier to play. More sinister, I think, are automation features like autonav, automap, and item searching, which encourage tedious designs.

>What do you guys like about roguelikes?
The consistency of rules shared between modeling of the player, and the environment/items/monsters. Combined with randomization, it gives a unique sense of the primary puzzle at the core of the game being you vs. the mechanics themselves via the (nigh unto) infinite permutations of their consequences.
>What would you like to see in a roguelike that you haven't seen before?
Better AI, like, at least basic tacticool stuff. At the individual level, I'd like smarter monsters to tactically retreat, flank, ambush, lay siege, exploit warmups/cooldowns, etc. At the squad level, I'd like them to patrol, scout, encircle, not get bottlenecked/pillardanced/trained, to scatter in the face of AoEs or penatrating attacks, etc. At the strategic level, I'd like the entire dungeon to react to my delving, with the disposition of allied monsters, traps, items, etc., changed on the basis of what they know about my activities and capabilities. In addition to combat, better mechanics for foes surrendering or morale failure, even bargaining on your part for a temporary mutual retreat from hostilities if both sides are losing badly.
This would also benefit greatly from extensions to tactical combat (explicit facing/FoV, locational health/targeting, offensive vs. defensive stance, etc.), to stealth (light/shadows, smells, footprints/spoor, flunky monsters reporting to their master if they escape, activity throughout the multilevel dungeon, monsters moving and concentrating/dispursing forces as actual patrols and postings, etc.) and perhaps even to ecosystems/economy.
>>16800938
I get the vague idea (especially with the zombies' AI) the game wants me to focus more on traps (both literally craftable traps, and DF-esque Rube Goldberg environmental contraptions) for fighting, rather than direct confrontation with weapons & vehicles, but it requires a change in mindset.

Because you have to torch the fungal mat and use high explosives or a lot of rifle ammo to destroy the heart of the infection if you really want to get rid of the whole thing. It's not as dangerous as a lab or a military base as far as direct damage goes but you'll probably get fungal HIV if you don't have excellent environmental protection for your whole body and if you don't have a reliable source of fire on tap (like a shitload of molotovs or a flamethrower) it's incredibly tedious to deal with and even if you do it's still a pain in the ass. The best option is to just pack up your shit and leave if it's encroaching on your base.

don't waste your time playing Unreal World until they balance the combat.
something about villagers… they oftentimes have the same weapons and gear if you're just starting out, but you're still able to massacre them.
if you are a logical human being who wants to minmax and use every option the game provides to its maximum potential, then the optimal way to play is the meat grinder build, which involves you standing in a doorway so that they can only approach you one at a time and let them walk into you and die. then you loot them all.
rinse and repeat over and over and over until winter, then find a village selling animals and massacre all the villagers again, only this time you stay there instead of continuing your genocide crusade. now there's absolutely nothing stopping you from slaughtering their animals and using their beds and sauna.
only a true fucking retard would waste their time making their own log cabin when killing an entire village takes only about 90 turns and has a less than 1% failure rate. i usually leave a 10 person massacre with maybe "minor cut in left arm." even though im not wearing any armor.
if you are not doing a meat grinder run, then you're just a retard self-imposing challenge and ignoring optimal mechanics.
in other words, you shouldn't bother to play because the game is broken as fuck.
there's absolutely no reason to not slaughter everyone and no obstacles preventing you from doing so and using all their stuff.

Outside the hobo phase: you can plow through them with your car going 60mph, you can poke them with spears from a moving motorcycle, you can go at night with a bow and pelt them without being noticed, you can slap a storm bolter turret on a shopping cart, you can hose them down from a handhelt LMG, you can equip a power armor and club them all to death with a toothbrush, and finally, you can combine all of the above at your own leisure.

Leave and come back at night. Shocker brutes glow in the dark just don't try to run them over without a proper deathmobile, and it's pretty easy to slip away from the normal zombies. Protip: If there's a horde blocking access to a building you want to enter, smash a nearby car and run away. Zombies will smash the sides of the car trying to get into it, which will set off a chain reaction that distracts every zombie in the area for quite a while.

The best part is that the game seems to give the hint that whatever the zombie is up to starts becoming some of its nature as it gets infected by the blob further. Soldier zombies are hardy like a soldier, zombie scientists are more intelligent, that kind of stuff.
Imagine if you kill some shocker zombie, the kind that drops a little girl's clothes, if you're very lucky a french maid outfit.
Make her a zombie slave, tie her up, and read books in her presence. In a few CDDA years, all perfectly in lore, you got yourself a submissive lolita with a peculiar kink and a strong desire to be near you. She just glows a little, and that's fine.

If that's not underground, crash through the wall.
If it is underground, there's no way out with the car, at most you can disassemble it inside and reassemble it outside, but at that point you're better off fixing a car outside. The underground garage of an office is a nice place, it has plenty of pristine car parts, which save you in-game and real life time, but you're not taking a fully assembled car out of there.

You have to either destroy the barrier or work around it and use the garage as an extremely inconvenient pantry for car parts. The easiest ways for the former are a breaching vehicle (assuming you have one, or you could just sacrifice one of the cars in the garage), a cutting torch (a massive waste, especially if you have to get through another door at the entrance to the complex), a jackhammer, C4/Dynamite (the biggest waste, unless you have a stockpile or can make it yourself) or just wailing on the door with a sledgehammer until it gives.

You can still use it for bashing shit, if you want to open a door, thats what the lockpicks are there for. Plus lockpics train your mechanics skill.
If I think about it, by the time its viable to just in-n-out break in and sweep, Ive already got an actual crowbar or the good ol Halligan bar on me. Its a waste of time generally to do dynamic entries in the early game when the makeshift crowbar is relevant, its loud and alerts every single doggo in the countryside.

Main bashing weapons like I do
>20 str
>4 dex
>4iq
>4 per
>take the extra stamina perk, whatever that was called
>never wield a ranged weapon because they're unmanly
>break and enter by breaking the wall and entering the crater left in its place
The main issues are stamina because bashing weapons tend to be heavier, and the damage limit until your skill goes up.
Maining bashing weapons is nice because I'm not 100% certain but I'm pretty sure they have the most damage dealt/taken ratio. Maybe that doesn't lend the quickest kills and doesn't level as quickly as unarmed because unarmed deals a higher amount of individual hits, but crits stun and pierce 50% armor and some weapons knock down. I've stunlocked brutes to death.
I'm not sure what loadout other people use but I already tended to bring a bashing weapon or a straight up jackhammer to smash stuff, so using a bashing weapon as my actual weapon came naturally, and that saves space, weight, and doesn't leave me vulnerable changing what I wield.
A simple plank is a great early game bashing weapon and you earn exp by smashing things too.

>They made new meat because it made them pissy that finding an anthill meant you could get meat pretty much all the time?
Pretty much.
>Can you still make pemmican with it?
I think that's one of the few recipies where it's going to taste normal, since it requires the meat to be jerky or dehydrated without making the meals taste terrible.
The github link here explains the mechanic in detail.
https://github.com/CleverRaven/Cataclysm-DDA/pull/34878
The shit you wanna know from it:
Mutant meat has:
* Half as many calories/vitamins as normal meat per unit volume
* A gross texture (-5 enjoyability) that persists even through most crafting, with exceptions being jerky and dehydrated.
* A new vitamin, "Toxins" (more on these later). Your body can safely process the toxins from up to 800 calories of mutant meat per day without any adverse effects.
Mutant fat has:
* The same calories/vitamins as normal fat per unit volume (spongiform fat didn't make sense to me)
* No gross texture (same logic as above)
* To compensate, has more toxins (the type of toxins I based these on tends to collect in fatty tissue).
* Your body can safely process the toxins from up to 550 calories of mutant fat per day without any adverse effects.
(Note that the toxins from fat and meat are the same, so eating 800 calories of meat and 550 of fat per day, you will experience toxin build-up.)
Explanation of toxins:
* Toxins are loosely based on man-made compounds, primarily insecticides, that don't decompose well, leading to build-up in animal tissue, especially fatty tissue. Symptoms vary, but lowered immune response and neurotoxicity (i.e. seizures, migraines) are common.
* After eating nothing but mutant meat for 2-3 days straight, you will develop mild effects, which do not appear in the @ screen:
* Infrequent but painful headaches (~1 every 2 days).
* Lowered immune response, represented by a decaying health value*. You can still keep your health mod at +10 with a modest regimen of healthy food/drink (10 health units per day, or 3-4 servings of pine needle tea). In any case, won't drop health mod below -10 on its own.
* After eating nothing but mutant meat for 4-5 days straight, you will develop moderate effects, which appear as Concerning symptoms: Your muscles keep twitching strangely. in the @ screen:
* Somewhat frequent muscle spasms (~1 every 2 hours) which can make you fall down, drop your wielded item, lower your strength/dexterity for a turn, or cause a lot of recoil if you're aiming a ranged weapon. Falls and weapon drops are prevented on a successful DEX roll. Can be prevented by being on diazepam.
* Infrequent "drop seizures" which drop you to the ground and prevent you from getting back up for a turn or two. Can be prevented by being on diazepam.
* The health degradation becomes worse*, you will no longer be able to realistically keep your health mod above -10, but you can still keep it from going lower by eating/drinking healthily as before. In any case, won't drop health mod below -30 on its own.
* Headaches become twice as common.
* After eating nothing but mutant meat for a week straight, you will develop severe effects, which appear as Unnerving symptoms: "Your nervous system is malfunctioning, almost like it's being torn apart from the inside. in the @ screen:
* Infrequent full body convulsive seizures (~1 every 3 days) which last 1.5 to 4 minutes and will drop you to the ground and nerf your strength and dexterity to the point that you only have a 1/30 chance to stand up each turn. Even if you do stand up, you will be stunned, unable to do much but stumble/flail about randomly. This can of course be game-ending in a combat situation, but can be prevented by being on diazepam.
* Headaches, drop seizures, and muscle spasms become twice as common.
* The health degradation becomes worse*, you will no longer be able to realistically keep your health mod above -30, but you can still keep it from going lower by eating/drinking healthily as before. In any case, won't drop health mod below -50 on its own.
* – Keep in mind Leukocyte Breeder CBM unconditionally locks health mod to 100, so these effects are moot for characters that have it installed.
I've heard they're planning to do this with the plant monsters as well. But it's not been implemented yet.

Honestly if they didn't want you to eat the damn bug meat, they should of made the meat tainted and be done with it. None of this needless worrying about long term consequences shit. That said you can still use the meat, as long you dehydrate it and keep it separate from 'healthy' meat, mostly as a precaution so you don't unintionally cook with it when you don't want to. Also if you use the magiclysm mod you can purifiy that bug meat if you got the right tools and books.

I've played a git build I built just a few hours ago. A few things I noticed:
>houses are filled with absurd amounts of food now. Not every house has food, but the ones that do are fully stocked
>there are more houses with boarded and taped windows
>basically every house has some tools (hammer, butcher knife, x-acto knife, that kind of early/mid game tool) and duct tape around
>there are so many books, and actually useful books, in people's houses it's like this game isn't even set in America anymore
>every house is covered with pristine clothes
>most house layouts have been deleted and replaced by very few and very repetitive layouts
>houses appear to be way more resilient, I tried to bash a log wall one with a fire axe, 18STR, and 4 bashing skill and dealt no damage. I don't actually remember if this is supposed to be enough though.
>there's a store called "head store" that's full of drugs, they have 3L jars full of weed, smoking pipes, and cocaine, just laying around
>turrets with enough ammunition to conquer a shithole still not fixed
>nobody has a medicine locker in their bathroom, you'll only find personal hygiene tools and supplies
>zombies can't break windows or bash doors (I'm pretty sure this is a bug but you never know nowadays)

Theres a tool called CDDA Launcher which can update your build to the most recent experimental straight from github.
>houses are filled with absurd amounts of food now. Not every house has food, but the ones that do are fully stocked
but then again its all been perishable from what Ive found so far
>basically every house has some tools (hammer, butcher knife, x-acto knife, that kind of early/mid game tool) and duct tape around
but then again they´re really early game tools, mid game tools are shit like mounted welders, at least the way I play it
>there are so many books, and actually useful books, in people's houses it's like this game isn't even set in America anymore
I agree, immersion broken, but then again you dont have to raid libraries anymore to find a fucking bowyers buddy
>every house is covered with pristine clothes
sounds like a serious decrease in difficulty, but then again you can get from shower victim to a full scav-ready set of clothing without leaving a building anyway because you need those sweet, sweet duffle bags anyway
>most house layouts have been deleted and replaced by very few and very repetitive layouts
a lot of shit got unmerged and consolidated packaged building mods in order for the devs to deny all responsibily when they add some useless shit again that breaks half the mods, with the mods the building layout variety is fucking ridiculous
>houses appear to be way more resilient, I tried to bash a log wall one with a fire axe, 18STR, and 4 bashing skill and dealt no damage. I don't actually remember if this is supposed to be enough though
yeah if you try a really bad day start in the current build it takes HOURS for the flame to spread and then a couple of days for the building to burn down
>there's a store called "head store" that's full of drugs, they have 3L jars full of weed, smoking pipes, and cocaine, just laying around
but then again, weed is useless for gameplay purposes and coke is very easy to find
>turrets with enough ammunition to conquer a shithole still not fixed
its kinda retarded but then again, DIY pneumatics make arguably make firearms obsolete because they got unlimited ammo and they come in mounted variety
>nobody has a medicine locker in their bathroom, you'll only find personal hygiene tools and supplies
this is absolutely infuriatingly retarded, additionally to the fact that FAKs dont act as or hold antibiotics anymore
>zombies can't break windows or bash doors (I'm pretty sure this is a bug but you never know nowadays)
they can and should be able to, but they do WAY less damage to vehicles now for some reason
all in all these changes really are just pissing in an ocean of piss, since mechanically everything is so fucking unbalanced and retared at closer examination in this game, whatever they break now just adds to the pile of broken shit that got added previously

I know mentioning this is like beating a dead cockatrice but I think there's been a turning point at the start of this year concerning the Roguelike name. Steam released a "Traditional Roguelike" tag and the Dev of Golden Krone Hotel released the following article: https://www.goldenkronehotel.com/wp/2020/01/15/the-roguelike-war-is-over/
This garnered quite a big discussion on r/roguelikes which currently sits at 370 comments which is a fair amount for a community so niche and it looks like reddit has somewhat happily accepted the new term. I'm sure children already refer to games like Spelunky and Binding of Isaac as Traditional Roguelikes so pushing this name change is a waste of time anyway.
I'm not really aiming to start the millionth discussion on the definition of a Roguelike just wanted you to be aware that the start of 2020 is a bit of a notable event in Roguelikes.
Yes, I'm aware I've mentioned the hideous REDDIT but as roguelikes are already a niche within a niche the small community there at least still appreciates roguelikes and is a decent source of news for new releases. You can just follow it with an RSS reader

The problem is it doesn't really provide a replacement for what "roguelike" already means, even worse pigeonholing roguelikes as inherently "outdated" or "stagnant", when in fact the simplicity of roguelikes has produced tremendous evolution and dynamism from experimental coffeebreak 7DRLs to massive open world offshoots like DF, Cata, or Elona.

It wouldn't be so annoying if it wasn't so one-sided, too. Okay, so eating giant bugs probably isn't a good idea - especially when their primary source of food is zombies. However, there should also be a high-end option for dealing with these obnoxious cunts that doesn't involve power armor and playing rambo, Something like a massive bug bomb (craftable at 7 Cooking 7 fab and the recipe is lab loot and resource-intensive) that you could set up at the first level of their base to kill like 90% of the ants and stop their infinite respawn for a few days so you could feasibly explore their base and loot the corpse pile if you have the environmental protection to do so. Or maybe add pheromones for ants like the ones already exist for zombies if you want to take more risks.

Not sure what you mean. A deathmobile is just a horde skipper and can be used to gank the occasional chicken walker, but it does not actually remove the need to fight on foot. I remember having built a mobile turret from a motorbike and even with this kind of size-to-firepower ratio and ability to move indoors with it, I still had to take out 60% of the zombies by hand.

You dont need a mobile base anymore, stationary bases are just as efficient for 90% of the things you want from them and the remaining 10% can be supplemented. Did you know theres functional steam engines now? You can build a small framework of shit in the corner that needs electricity to work, slap a steam engine on it and power all your crafting stations with fucking firewood.
And generally, you dont actually need vehicles anymore for anything other than strict transportation from point A to point B. Realistically you can get by with just an unmodified 4x6 for ANYTHING you want to do with it. It can transport you anywhere at low fuel cost, is maneuverable enough to get you through most roadblocks, has room for 5 cargo racks which is more than enough to secure food for a year in a single haul, and can be used for dynamic entry in a pinch.
Personally Ive been getting by with a modified 1x5 motorbike just fine, I just like having all my shit in arms range at all times so I opt for the bus+motorbike option.

Its the skill multiplier. Ive got a skill of 2 but the encumberance drops it to 1.5.
You generally want all armor early game, just go ham with 12 layers of clothing until you can defend yourself properly, then light armor midgame, then whatever your preference is. Im arguably late game right now
The wiki says the opposite, you want high dodge, minimal encumberance early game then high armor mid and up. I obviously disagree, early game go time is your best defense, and if you get 3 layers of clothing ripped off your body HOTD style before bolting, is still miles better than getting 3 layers of flesh peeled of your bones.

Can anyone explain to me how to play CDDA? This game is so absolutely fucking broken that the main menu made me rage quit.
Can you imagine a game that doesn't even let you use basic arrow keys and the enter button to select options in the main menu? I even read a comprehensive guide to the game and tried to learn how to get past the main menu, but apparently the main menu requires you to press insanely complicated key bindings and other obscure and counter intuitive combinations of buttons in order to just select your game and options and settings, and then try to start the game. I could not, even if a gun was pointed to my head, pass the main menu. I did not even get to start playing.
my rage can not be QUENCHED, this game is UNQUENCHABLY RETARDED.
Please someone help me.

Are you retarded? Genuine question.
The main menu is controlled by the arrow keys, the enter key and escape. Switching tabs in menus is TAB/Shift+TAB, >/<, and arrow keys.
If you cant figure your way out of the main menu you propably shouldnt play the game at all because if you think thats where the retarded shortcuts stop, hoo boy do I have a tale to tell you.

To be fair, Cata's menu design is fucking retarded, even as roguelikes go. The abuse of tab, page up/down, arrow keys, and more, are beyond nuts. And considering how old the tiles support is, its GUI features are basically nonexistent.

If you were an actual contribootor, you'd know you could volunteer to maintain the mods that won't otherwise be supported in the mainline. Or if you are one of those who insist that the bazillion "I don't like this thing" whining mods absolute must be included with the base download, you could make your own fork that does just that. Consider the whiners are convinced absolutely everyone (except the evil devs who only want to ruin everyone's fun) agrees with them, this new fork should quickly eclipse the old one in popularity.

Is it that hard to not break a mod that just makes, say, one enemy type not appear? Can the code be so badly structured that a change like "set this number to zero" has to be updated and maintained for a new major version? This is in the context of a game that has quite a lot of these kind of mods and enough uproar about breaking them that it engendered at least some discussion. Perhaps it's the kind of thing that should have been externalized at some point so that nobody needs to maintain mods to make this simple and apparently popular change.

I'd just like a mod to exclude the sextoys, fursuits, gimp suits, shit like that. At least make them extremely rare, as is I find that shit more than ketchup. Which really doesn't make sense given the setting. In addition, I'd like holy book spawns nerfed as well, the Bible should be fairly common given then setting, and the others pretty rare. Honestly, second to the Bible, I've seen more Baghavad Gitas than anything else. Never seen a Koran or Torah IRL.
These are nitpicks I guess, don't really affect the gameplay. Gameplay is good.

I led the power armored zombies around a loop for a little bit because I didn't have anything to penetrate their armor, then snuck back into the room to get the laser rifle and power system. I got my right arm nearly broke in the process and decided not to push my luck and go back upstairs to the raider base that had been established on the top floors of the military outpost. Popped open this crate and found something that should be able to penetrate their armor. I've never used that gun or calibre before, so I'm not sure I'll have enough for the six of them.

No, thats about the same damage as a 5.56. You need at least factory loaded 7.62 AP to do chip damage, if you want something that will reliably remove them you want .50 cal. You can even saw one down from a Browning M2 and use that, just keep in mind that youll need a backup to deal with the rest of the zombies because once high value targets are evenly smeared across the wall its essentially a giant paperweight.

one of my faves, playing it right now, dismember is great and very profitable when used on robots and turrets, found a legendary king eyeless crab wearing a skull, mirrorshades and a cape and kited it around a wall for 3 days slowly attempting dismembers until it lost both of its claws so i could kill it. afterwards realised the first part of its name phonetically spelled out "k-kitty titty". i've harvested a total of 3 rifles, a chaingun and a jacked laser chaingun from aformentioned turret dismembering

Interesting, its propably due to high penetration. I went in with 5.56 FMJ and ate a dick, I sprayed full mags into those fuckers and they didnt flinch. I assumed 50 damage is not enough to get through their armor threshold regardless of AP, apparentely AP really mattered in that case.

Looks like CDDA is officially going the way of the DCSS, removing features instead of adding them. Notice how adding features is under feature freeze for the next stable, while removing features isnt. My guess is that theyre trying to silentely remove all the shit people want them to leave in while nobody is looking.
