So apparently Zachtronics released a new game recently, and by that I don't mean the psychology robot visual novel they also released a short while back. Dunno if I magically missed the threads on the bunker, or if other anons simply missed it as well.

MOLEK-SYNTHEZ

It's kind of a rehash of Alchemical Engineering and Opus Magnus which was also a rehash of Alchemical Engineering with a bit of a TIS-100 flavor to it since you're being limited more, plus some edgy Spacechem sauce since you're making drugs.

Instead of being able to place as many interacting things as you want like in Opus, you only have six objects that can only operate on the first molecule in front of them. You can push, pull and rotate, but more importantly add, take away, or push hydrogen molecules which act more like electrons. You use this to break bonds, delete parts of the base molecules you have, stick them together, and output your mind-altering results.

From what I've seen so far, it's easy to finish but hard to optimize, like Opus Magnum, but I'm not too far in yet. Had fun optimizing a few things so far.

It also has a new solitaire game as per usual, although I think that the icon next to it is the bonus campaign instead of a second minigame. So only one time-waster this time.

Besides that, feel free to discuss any other Zachtronics game (or similar game). You are allowed to cry about Shenzen, I do as well. Also, has anyone played the VN and is it any good? I doubt it.

Anyone else never finish zachtronic games?

Like I know I can beat them optimally I just don't have the time to spend 12 hours on the final levels

Yeah, as a rule most of a Zachgame will be fun, but near the end it turns into an awful slog. You can look up a walkthrough if you want closure, but it's kind of a waste of time since the endings are always disappointing.

Have you ever played The Swapper? It has the same sort of "eureka" puzzle-solving feel, but doesn't overstay its welcome.

I finished Spacechem.

Last boss wasn't as much about making optimal design, but more about getting shit done and switches to activate at the right time.

I "finished" TIS-100, Opus Magnum, Shenzhen, Infinifactory and Exapunks by myself, which for Shenzhen was really fucking hard, but for all of them I either skipped some optional content or didn't buy the game so I didn't get the bonus campaign.Again with Shenzhen as the outlier, s I own the game and id want to bother, but got stuck on the third puzzle or something of the bonus campaign. God damn that game is hard.

Spacechem, on the other hand, I played back when it came out and I didn't understand what Zachtronics games were supposed to be. Without a puzzle/optimizer mindset it didn't click with me and I just looked up solutions because I liked the story.

I also still wish they'd remake KOHCTPYKTOP with better controls, saving system and perhaps a slightly better explanation of the mechanics for new players.

Me too. There was an open source attempt a long time ago, but it never went anywhere

I picked up Shenzen the other day.

Got into it pretty quickly despite lacking much coding and algorithm insight.

My biggest issue with the game is that I can't lower the resolution when windowed or zoom out when CAD editing.
