Point is, Nero and Dante’s gameplay have additions from previous entries that make the game enjoyable to play which is what matters at the end of the day. DmC was torn to shreds for its simplified and butchered gameplay through its color coded enemies, reduced move and style set, frame rate, lack of lock on, pathetic boss and enemy AI, wonky plaforming, forced walking segments for the sake of being cinematic. It was yet another series that had fallen victim to many of the same pitfalls that AAA western games made at the time and continue to do, like Thi4f as an example.
What’s annoying that game journos basically used the flip side of the same argument used against DMC5’s characters. That they mocked and lambasted fans for hating the reboot because “Dante’s hair was no longer white” despite ignoring/not comprehending that the reboot was hated for its mechanical lobotomy as a GAME instead of just being ugly. Giving Donte the old costumes back didn’t magically make the Ninja Theory game better.

Bloodstained was kind of shit though. Aside from the usual problems associated with crowd-funded titles, the game had huge issues with balancing and pacing, as well as numerous bugs. The whole thing was unpolished as hell, and with gameplay that just felt like a dump-truck of tacked-on shit rather than keeping a tight focus on core mechanics. You could really feel where that last minute graphical overhaul crunch came at the cost of QA and playtesting.
It could have been much worse, look at Shantae's crowd-funded game, but to be honest I liked Curse of the Moon much better despite it being piss-easy due to being pretty much just a promotional gimmick.

Bloodstained is nowhere near completion, so I'm expecting a never ever situation like with Shovel Knight that took, what? 5 years? For a game based on SOTN, this was not only expected, but it was welcomed. Metroidvanias in the vein of SOTN are snowballing power trips, the interesting part is finding new ways of braking the game, and the game delivers on many many combos, combinations, weapons, and overall cool stuff.
I do agree that the game had way too many bugs on launch and the Switch version is still barely playable.

Yeah, but there's better ways to make the player feel increasingly capable and more powerful. Bloodstained gives you the Aegis Plate and Inversion just prior to the Valefor fight - which makes the game trivial. Since they're both new toys, you're going to be more inclined to use them - and by using them, you can just stand on the ceiling and cheese the boss since he doesn't really have any attacks or countermeasures that reach up there. Is the game supposed to make you feel clever for figuring this out, when it basically holds your hand and tells you to do so - then rewards you with a boring boss slaughter?
In the Valefor fight in Curse of the Moon, you can also pretty much neuter him - but it requires you to use Alfred's Burning Sphere attack. This does a ton of damage and clears the coins he's trying to compress you with very quickly, giving you much more time to counter-attack. You do still have to dodge his other moves, but you essentially turn one of his most annoying and significant attacks against him. And unlike RotN, you've had access his powers all along - so you have to figure out which character to use, which power you need to hunt for and bring into battle, as well as manage your weapon stock. Granted, it's kneecapped by the game being super easy - but it's still far more satisfying.
The whole boss fight could have been made far more fun by just removing the spiked ceiling and force a reversal of your inversion after you go off screen. Or have the game recognize what you're doing and have him switch up his moveset to incorporate more moves that - while slightly easier to avoid (to reward the player using alternate tactics) still keeps you engaged. That level of cheese-ability is something I'd expect from an early level or tutorial boss, not a mid-level boss.

People funded Bloodstained because they were thirsty for more castlevania. And it delivers, if you don't believe me, play SOTN and it's basically the same thing. I give you that they could have put an effort and tried to fix the difficulty. And guess what, THEY ACTUALLY DID, but faggots and casuals complained about the game being too difficult, and they changed it making it piss easy. In fact, even now, when the game is THIS EASY, there are people who complain about difficulty.
This just shows that devs shouldn't listen to fans, much less crowdfunders. The reason CotM is slightly more difficult is because it follows the Classicvania formula, not the Metroidvania one.

This is pretty much the crissaegrim argument in SOTN, or the Alucard Shield + Shield Rod. Both break the game, but you can just not use them and at that point just use whatever you like to use. What I mean is, you are comparing apples and oranges, despite both type of gameplays being based on the same franchise, and, again, I give you they could have improved it for everyone and not just the faggots who complained.

I’ve noticed that a lot when it comes to Catholic countries; it seems like they use entertainment as some excuse to delve into these very taboo ideas and visuals and get carried away.
Stuart Gordon’s Dagon (2001), which is an adaptation of H. P. Lovecraft’s ‘The Shadow Over Innsmouth’ set in Spain instead of New England, there is a scene where the villagers sack the local church, crush the statues of the saints and tear down the altar – Gordon was a little worried the Catholic extras of the town would refuse to do that scene, but found that they did it without objection, saying it was almost therapeutic for them.
The visuals of ‘Blasphemous’ are quite neat though, so maybe it is partly because of the inherent symbolic power of the Christian imagery they decided to go with it.

Blasphemous is quite good but if you're expecting something which feels complete like Dark Souls or Hollow Knight you'd be better off looking elsewhere. Visuals are fantastic and music is quite nice, as well, but some of the gameplay elements feel poorly balanced or not enough attention paid to it. First of all, I dislike the collect-a-thon thing going for it. It's incredibly annoying you don't get to mark your map like in SotN where yet unattainable collectibles are located so you can come back later. The magic spells are almost entirely useless and you'll likely go the whole game without using them. Most of the skills in the game will also go unused as there are only one or two that are actually useful and the other is for making the game harder since, for people like me, I needed a bit more challenge. Also, speaking of collect-a-thon, some of the collectibles are an absolute fucking slog to get, like this one where you need to kill three enemies each located in different parts of the map, not die, and also not teleport, then go to another part of the map to actually get the item (which is comparably lackluster).
All in all, I gave it a very generous 7/10 since the atmosphere, art, story, music, and general aesthetic were all so unique and well done, to boot.
As for Code Vein…I can't share many similar sentiments. It's pretty bad. I don't want to get into it very much so I'll be brief:
The biggest gripe is the gameplay. It's just all over the place, doesn't know if it wants to be a Dark Souls clone or try its own thing, which I can kind of sympathize with. Let's be frank, if you've played it, you and I can both tell it's straight up ripping a lot of mechanics from Dark Souls, and unlike Dark Souls, there isn't really much of a reason for them to exist except for the fact that they wanted to use mechanics that they knew worked for one game and so must work for their own. They took a risk and tried tossing their own 'twists' into it but at a big cost. It just made the game a mess. For one thing, there are way too many enemies at once. This is slightly off-set by the fact you can choose a partner, but if it's AI it will likely suck and die quickly. If it's another human, you may still lose since there are simply too many enemies - and mind you, the enemy count doesn't go down if you choose to go partner-less. I also have a big gripe with the weapons and command codes or whatever the game calls it. They're usually weak, and you don't ever get the option of buying a truly suitable weapon, by the time they unlock they're probably far below you power-wise. I don't even want to mention how you can't really customize stats and such, the game chooses which stats you get when you level up, and the only adjustment you can make is changing clothes, which only barely makes changes. Parrying is a non-option considering how different it is for each "veil" and it's also fucking impossible. WAY too much 'wind-up' and the pay-off is more often than not worthless. Not to mention how you have to deal with more than one enemy at any given time so you won't get a chance for a visceral attack anyways. The only chance you have is getting a backstab which is surprisingly easy in this game, though it still leaves you open in the end to the no-doubt countless enemies preying upon you.
There's yet more to say about the gameplay but i'll leave it there cause now it's time for the story, which is so utterly boring that I don't want to waste anyone's time. The cutscenes are long and drawn out just to portray nothing, and the 'memories' are equally boring but more useless since a lot of the stories are contrived and uninspired. I didn't feel an ounce of sorrow for the russian hat lady or her otouto. Why? Well because there wasn't any build up, we know nothing about the characters, and they try so hard to make them sympathetic. Why should I care?
Music is stale, that's all that can be said. Visuals are a bit unique and I'll admit Code: Vein is probably the best attempt at "3D-izing" anime so far. They look a bit weird from the side but I'll count that as nitpicking.
Overall, I'll give Code: Vein a 5/10, also being generous. It's playable, but I don't like to play it, which is the biggest problem a video game can have.
