I was stuck on this screen for 2 hours until I figured out how to fix it. If you encounter this issue your hosts file probably has blocked all the telemetry data Microsoft tries to collect but it actually stops you from actually being able to log into your Microsoft account to play the game. That took me 2 hours to figure out. The game is great but holy fuck do I feel like I got my asshole spread.

Enjoying replaying through the campaign - I honestly believe that anybody who dislikes Reach hasn't actually tried to critically observe it for it's faults AND it's merits - in artistic direction it remains one of the foremost FPS I've seen, and it should be held up as an example of how much gameplay could (and should) be packed onto a single disc, day 1.
Reach was a perfect swan song for the Halo series and for Bungie, neither of which had any games released following it.

Eh, Reach ruined its standard multiplayer with loadouts and the DMR being too good and the most common loadout weapon. Plus, they ruined the team color schemes for that spartans vs elites game mode by making it the standard opposing colors drivel and not the green spartans vs the blue elites of the beta. Oh, and they retconned a lot of shit with it. The campaign was pretty good, I'll admit, and Forge was fantastic.

People wouldn't care nearly as much if they didn't stop making solid multiplayer PC shooters about a decade ago. Finding niche communities for old classics that are only sometimes active can become more tiresome than it is enjoyable. Not to mention the potential skill gap that comes with playing with/against vets.
Reach is definitely the worst in the Bungie series, but I think Halo generally did really well in map design and frantic vehicular action. Also 3 has a very appealing art style that holds up well.

The aim assist is a meme complaint and it pisses me off so many peopole are whining about it and are gonna force 343i to concede on it when it's just a symptom of a larger issue and everybody is missing the point.
Halo's Weapon balance is designed around controllers and aim assist: Different guns have different aim assist values to make certain guns easier or harder to land shots with then others. Automatics like the AR have more aim assist since they are less precise and have wider firing cones and need the help to land shots, while precision weapons are designed to take more skill and have less and can also afford to have less since your shots actually land where you want. On PC, without aim assist, automatics get dispropoinately worse then precision weapons, since autos had more aim assist to take away to begin with, while in the flip side the inherent higher precision of a mouse HELPS precision weapons, while it doesn't help autos since they have such high spread that even getting your reticule 100% o9n target will cause missed shots at times.
This is all on top of the fact that Halo's weapon sandbox has always been centralized around precision weapons to begin with: Everybody who has even a modicum of expierence with Halo knows you wantr a CE pistol, 2/3 BR, etc on you at all times. The result of this is that on PC, Halo's existing weapon balance issues with overdominant precision weapons is exacerbated and magnified. Yeah, it would be good if there was an option so you could specify you on;y want to play against M+KB people, and yeah, DMR starts need to be toned down, but both of those things are really symptoms of this larger issue: DMR starts are much worse then they would be without this in play, and the mere act of using M+KB changes Halo's balance.
If 343i is going to disable aim assist or have a checkbox for it for matchmaking, then they should go further and outright change the weapon balance to account for the changes M+KB alreaduy causes, namely by making automatic weapons have less spread so they qalso benefit from the shift to mouse aim. And hell, even on console that'd only be a good change for weapon balance.

I really don't think this is that suprising, and not because "well it's reach": Nearly all steam releases drop to a fraction of their peak population after a month or so. It seems to bhe settling around 20k at peak daily hours and 8000 at min daily hours, which still puts it in like the top 1st percientile of all steam releases. Presumbly when CE, 2, and especially 3 come out, those will boost the average/lasting population further.
That being said as somebody who is primarily a 2fag I always thought 3 was massively ovverrated and honestly think it's worse then Reach. Still a solid game but so much of 3's campaign is meh at besst, and the core movement, aiming, and shooting in 3 feels fuckling awful, not to mention there's random spread on everything implmented in a way that's even worse then Reach';s bloom. If you ask me those are all just as bad as Reach's shit MP maps, armor abilities, and bloom, and at least reach has a vastly improved forge/customs, a slightly better campaign (I'd argue anyways), and firefight to make up for iut.

Reach doesn't have loadouts: In the vast majority of the modes the "Loadouts" have the exact same shit aside from the armor ability, so it's just armor ability selection. Which was still bad since it still broke even starts but it was nowhere near as cancerous as the full choosing-your-own-weapons/perks/killstreaks shit 4 had with actual loadouts. Also the DMR, at least in pre TU, OG reach on console with controllers, was actually less overdominant then the BR was in 2/3 or the pistol in CE. It's just on PC with mice aim, TU settings, etc makes it that much better.

343i elite designs really aren't as bad as they look: Their issue is primarily that their armor and animations make them look way bulkier and brutish then they actually are if you look at their anatomy alone: In terms of actual anatomy, they are more faithful to CE-3 elites then the Reach ones are, basically being largerly lithe overall in propoirtions and standing upright, just with a bit of edxtra muscle all around. In contrast Reach elites have a super bulky uppper body and then disproportionately tiny legs and waistes… but Reach elites have the inverse issue of 4 elites, in that while their anatomy sucks, their armor looks really cool and masks that.

It wasn't "put in", it's the same aim assist that's present in console reach. It just wasn't removed if you use a gamepad/controller for input.

A less contrversial solution would be to lower fire rates oin precision guns, but people would also get assmad over this soince people are gonna see it as "changing the gfame' when MCC is supposed to just be a port, not realizing that the mere switch to PC is already changing shit. Headshot bonuses on autos can work, but they need to be designed to not be spray-and-pray based first, with lower spread and less bullet magnetism/aim assist. The Halo 5 beta did this with the AR, but without the lower bullet magnetism part, so you coulfd spray and pray and get insane accuracy and damage with headshots easily, and then when people whined rather then just punishing spraying by lowering bodyshot damahge while keeping the headshot bonus in and lowering assist/magnetism, 343i just removed the headshot bonus entirely.
Part of the problem is also just that the Halo community has stockholms syndrome and sees the fact that precision weapons are thew only non power weapons worth using, and having all the others as gimmicky guns for casuals and nothing else, as "part of wqhat makes Halo Halo"

halo reach is so badly balanced that every single gun is useless except the DMR's. this is true for both multiplayer AND campaign.
in classic halos, every single gun was viable in every situation. i specifically remember a conversation with a friend back in 2008 where he was telling me his favorite gun in 3 was the SMG. mine was always the halo 2 magnum. but nope, in reach, absolutely nothing is viable except the DMR. i've never even seen anyone pick any other class. it's always a sprinter using a DMR. why even add the other armor powerups? they're all worthless if they don't come with a DMR.
the map designs in campaign are so huge now, they're all these large scale battles, so you're never close enough to enemies to use anything other than a DMR. i remember picking up a shotgun for the first time in campaign and i wasn't able to use it at all because all encounters were over 50 meters away.
it's hilarious, i don't know how they fucked up so bad and i don't know why everyone is fine with it.
