With the end of this decade quickly approaching, what do you guys think is going to happen to the gaming industry during the next decade? Anything major you're hoping or expecting to see change? Also, what do you think the best game of this decade was?

I expect innovations in marketing since social media is trying hard to be the new TV. Also subscription models will be more commonplace even in single player games. Like season passes but you have to pay monthly to use it.

I expect a good necromancer game Undead Horde is fun but 2easy next decade. Otherwise in innovations I doubt anything besides "better grafix" is going to happen, Ray Tracing seems to be the big thing in better grafix nowadays although I admit I barely noticed it in Control.
What I hope will happen? I hope bullshit like
>Google Stadia
>Kojima's hollywood bash just to be clear, I'm talking here about the hollywood cast rather than whatever the game is like. I did not care enough about it to play it but the all hollywood cast pisses me off.
>Cloud gaming
will crash and burn big time as to not "inspire" developers to follow in their footsteps, but I doubt it.
>Best game of the decade
I don't really know. It's hard to pick out one game as the absolute best.
Best 2D platformer is hands down Luminous Avenger iX. It's amazing how much better the Gunvolt games play when the playstyle isn't some absolutely boring defensive shit with your main method of attack being so visually cluttered, and then they go ahead and make a challenging, intense game out of it where sub weapons are actually useful and require on the fly switching. I really hope whatever new Gunvolt game just lets you play as Copen instead because fuck GV. I doubt if there's an X9 or a Zero 5 it'll play this good.
What vidya is left to be released in this year or the next though? All I can think of is Nioh 2, Phoenix Point/Xenonauts 2/Terra Invicta, maybe Ys 9(but most likely next year), Bannerlord, Colony Ship and a bunch of indie games mainly of the retro FPS craze like Wrath(not-Quake with a charge dash blade) and Prodeus(I think it's not-Doom?). I hope all of those games aren't shit. I also get the feeling Exanima and Sui Genesis aren't going to be finished by 2020.
Let me post god damnit FUCK YOU

That aint blackpill, that nigger has his head in the fucking clouds. We all know what's really going to happen in the next 10 years. More microtransactions, less game, and somehow it keeps selling more. The only good news is that streaming will remain dead on arrival, but before long there won't even be anything left worth missing, if it went to streaming. Oh, and Japan continues to decline too. There what, 10, maybe 20 years behind western trends? Well the west has been shit since shortly after 2000 so they don't have much time left either.
That, is being realistic. If I really wanted to doom and gloom I'd be focusing on mobile, but I at least have some hope left that it won't take over everything.

For most of the decade I believed that industry corruption and greed were going to kill gaming. Now I wonder if it ever really mattered, if gaming wasn't doomed with or without that additional pressure. In the present games are seen by many as merely a tool for creating lesser forms of entertainment (twitch, youtube) and facilitating hollow social media interactions and other insipid normalfag shit (reddit, discord). This misconception could easily become the stark reality by 2029. As a result, through no fault of their own, the upcoming generation will fail to develop a passion for videogames, they will not be aware there was ever anything like an actual hobby beneath the garbage.
I think that for the moment gaming is much better than it was in 2009, in terms of amount of good games new and upcoming. But it's nowhere near enough to resist the momentum of a change like this.

Call me crazy, but I genuinely expect an industry crash to occur some time in the 2020s as a result of the ongoing rapid corporate profiling of gaming (I envision even Nintendo being affected by this). I also expect a renaissance of small-budgeted, indie creatives immediately following this crash.
At the same time, I also expect mobile gaming to grow and be taken more seriously and to become something akin to the pre-2010 era of traditional gaming.
Also, best game this decade; A Hat in Time.

The original crash in 1983 wasn't even a worldwide crash. It was entirely focused on toy companies in the West.
2020s will be when the AAA publishers all start having problems and are bought out by the Chinese. You'll see the really shitty ones fall first, like Ubisoft and EA. Some of the less greedy ones, like Rockstar, might even avoid the coming Chinese buyouts.
Chinese will push out all the SJWs and force them to go indie, because the SJWs won't be tolerated when China commies tell them no gays or niggers in their games. But AAA will end up worse than with the SJWs, because commies will censor the fuck out of AAA games, trying to turn them into borderline pro-china, pro-commie propaganda.
SJWs in games will become entirely irrelevant. Without AAA to prop up their bullshit (like Ubisoft running at a loss and depending on government money), they won't make it in a capitalist system where people have demand and want to buy their games.
I think most Western studios will end up like Nihom Falcom, Nippon Ichi, etc. You could probably say 2020s will be a revival of AA games as Chinese buy out AAA as they mostly all slowly fail. I actually think video games will see a huge decline in the casual market.
>Streaming fad will die as all the hordes of streamers realize 99.999% of streamers end up with massive failure
>AAA will die because they depend on DLC and microtransactions and people will get tired of spending hundreds of dollars on bullshit

I don't think the crash will happen due to the decline of interest in video games but instead due to global government policies. Because corporations are lazy nowdays they will make one version of the game available in all regions. The current lowest denominator nation today? China. China has been buying stocks in US companies for a while now. It's a matter of time before China owns practically half of the video game industry. The USA could technically and legally have censorship free games. However the EU and Chinese markets will demand US versions be censored or region locked.
Another prediction I think will happen: Region locking will come back as most games will be always online in some way. So without a (soon to be illegal service if big gubbment gets their way) VPN, you will be restricted access from playing other better versions of video games due to region whitelisting.

The best type of MMO is a game with a crapton to do, multiple facets and whatnot.
World of Warcraft tried to do it with the turn based pet battles, the garrisons, but the game had ingrained shit for years so all the new content was shallow and isn't often built on. The playerbase is either full of diehards or casuals.
There was this old concept almost reached in Star Wars Galaxies, and while I didn't play it, I read about it through one of the strategy guides I liked reading strategy guides as a kid because it was like reading about an entire different world, and the ambiguities between each page allowed my kiddie mind to fill in the blanks with what I thought was awesome. Helped that these guides weren't soulless pieces of crap and had personal touches from the authors, notes on lore and such. Essentially, as a kid, I got an idea that Star Wars Galaxies was this weird place where you didn't just shoot down monsters, but you also had non-combat jobs like playing as a doctor or a dancer in a cantina where players had to come and visit to get healed and get substantial buffs, there were merchant classes and classes based entirely around building construction, and the world would be populated by player cities in the wild, with player made guilds to contend with who ran resource trading and such.
I didn't know a thing about what exactly motivated the players to do anything other then say, the Jedi class, which was rare.
My idea for an MMO is one where you allow the players to build shit in their game world, and have no restrictions or privacy for interaction except in some cases. The motivation is the biggest issue here.
With a game, you need a gateway, and then a branch, when it comes to player motivation. What would lead players into architecture building and player city designing, or a pure merchant class with almost no combat, or searching for matierials and mining for other players? In the past, it was done via needing to invite massive amounts of players to raids, but that isn't sufficient anymore, since the mainstream audience is involved.
The biggest issue, is what motivation do you give the player that isn't the skinnerbox "gotta get dat dopamine from minor rewards dawg" bullshit? What goal would they work towards, and why would they bother? Would it be one, multiple? Where do you start?

No one is an an agent of major change, only minor. Even those with money and power can only futilely move in ways that are resisted a hundred-fold and make slow progress besides, should people be receptive.
You can, however, make it better for people next to you. And in return, your life will be better for it, and you'll be happier. You don't have to volunteer, just live to be a good person, whatever that means for you.
But being a good person doesn't mean doing nothing because you can't handle life.

Nice effortpost.
>The biggest issue, is what motivation do you give the player that isn't the skinnerbox "gotta get dat dopamine from minor rewards dawg" bullshit?
A: Make player interaction unavoidable and accessible. If you want player merchants, don't put NPC merchants in the game (or at least only give them shit items to sell) and don't put in an auction house or grand exchange. If you want players to talk to each other, don't put in LFG. If you want player-made buildings, let the players build them in the world instead of herding them into private instanced housing areas. If you want player-made cities, have large open areas far away from any existing settlements, but with reasons for the player to go there (i.e., quests, loot, etc.) so that they think to themselves "boy, I really fucking wish there was a town here". If you want the game world to be populated instead of everyone crowding in one hub city and only venturing out to do endgame content, don't put fast travel systems in the game. In short, fill the world with needs for players to fill, and allow them to benefit from filling those needs. More importantly, allow them to decide how much they benefit from filling that need - don't slap limits on them in the name of "fairness". If a player builds a shop next to some endgame content, let them sell shit at a 2000% markup, and if a player wants to build a bank access next to a popular mat farming area, let them charge an ultra-jewish transaction fee. Let players get gouged, or walk the extra distance, or scrape some cash together and undercut the kikes already there. To put it simply, players only start playing the game when the devs stop playing the game for them.
B: If you want players to interact inside the game, stop them from interacting outside the game. In the current-year era, if a game doesn't have LFG or raid finder bullshit, it's guaranteed that an equivalent will spring up on some shitty reddit or discord. As long as these services get used, players won't ever talk to each other. They'll find a group, silently do the content, and then leave. All it would take is to assign some intern to skim these communities every week or so, and hand out account suspensions to anyone using them, but nobody has the guts to risk offending their customers - not even to improve the overall community and experience.
C: Get a better playerbase. This will never happen, because more subs = more money, but when you pander to subhumans with a five-second attention span, your game gets swamped with subhumans with a five-second attention span. Making new content is hard, and managing a community is even harder, but making a new tier of gear with a 0.000000000000000000001% drop rate is easy and will keep the skinnerbox drones playing your game until the end of time.

What about having dungeons be procedural generated like Diablo and Phantasy Star? You have dungeon shapes, loot, puzzles, and mobs based on region. Glaciers would have ice caves but they also have frozen viking ships protected by mummified berserkers. Dungeon resets can be based on time for anyone involved. The time of reset is determined by dice roll.

I think I must have misunderstood you because I'm fairly sure many "MMOs" already do procedural generation, albeit most of them do it pretty badly. As an example I think Starforge randomized everything from map design(mostly it was a door open here or there) to loot and had a couple or so of bosses for each map.

That is a pretty good list, lots of B+ and A- games but sadly there is arguably no all time classics on there. I think the last great game releases was Demons Souls for the PS3 back in 2009. Makes you think games have run their course and can only make things look more real instead of creating an environment worthy of having a real adventure.

While BOTW was pretty bare bones and Far Cry 3 is now the most generic Ubisoft cookie cutter game, they were still fun to play and I remember actually ending them on a high note. That doesn't sound too impressive until you remember the average AAA game nowadays makes the average play walk away with negative emotions with the only positive outlook being how pretty it was (RDR2, Death Stranding, etc). The Xcom games can go fuck right off though.

Terraria, New Vegas, and the Witcher 3 (as much as I hate it) are the poster children for all time classic games nowadays. The only way that list could've had more all time classic games is if it had Diablo 2, Half Life, GMod, and the original Sonic and Mario games on it.

On the contrary. Most themepark MMOs don't have procedural generation outside of mob spawn positions. I had an idea once for an online game where each player has an entire planet all to themselves. On their own world players can opt in LAN play as well as invite friends over. There's also public worlds you can visit to explore/trade/fight. The public worlds are no man lands where everyone fights for themselves. These worlds also have limited resources. So when a world is depleted it becomes a wasteland. Wastelands are useful for engaging wars without collateral damage.
Either this or have very slow cycles for resource rotation. Example is a mine. The mine starts with few threats but is abundant with ore. Once the ore is depleted the mine is abandoned. There more creatures move into the mine including fungi. These creatures in return become their own resources. And as players hunt creatures the ore slowly replinishes back into a rich mine.

A lot of people would consider me adding BOTW, Far Cry, and Xenoblade 2 to be shitting up the list. In all reality this list is just all the games in the 2010s that are actually fun to play. I know absolutely nothing about half the games on the list and I'm just going off of what I've heard from other anons until someone else comes along and disagrees with valid points. So sure, Ys 8 can go on the list as long as nobody else objects. Ys 8 is legitimately one of the worst names I've ever seen for a video game though.

Pokemon B/W - Not because it wasn't good but because it's not needed. I remember several anons saying B2/W2 was the same yet only better, so why have an inferior version on the list?
Magicka - Perhaps, to myself, the controversial. It seemed like a really cool concept at the time, but the execution, when I played it, was just plain boring. Not sure if and how Magicka 2 improved on the first
CS:GO - What started as a console version of Counter-Strike turned into a PC turd fest with Jewish skins and schemes out the ass. The matchmaking killed the private server scene and the technical side of things like networking and hitscan mechanics has proven to be complete bullshit. It shows how far Valve has fallen since the early 2000's.
Five Nights at Freddy's - Just because the series was milked to high heaven and produced an uber-autistic fandom that we could laugh at doesn't mean the game was actually good. It was extremely simplistic to the core.
Breath of The Wild - An okay Zelda tainted by a really stupid mechanic (weapon degradation).
Planet Coaster - From what I remember, there were major problems not excluding forced poltical bs. Plus, the game is limited compared to what was promised in the year or two leading up to release. Besides, it can't hold a candle to the OpenRCT2 engine which was also released this decade.
Add:
Battlefield: BC2 - the last good Battlefield imo, though it wasn't like BF2 and one of the very rare modern examples of a good, expansion-like, DLC (Vietnam).
Bayonetta 1/2
Mario Kart 8 (All versions) - Nintendo perfected the kart racing genre, and mechanically, it's flawless. Had fun while the Wii U version was still active.
Mario Maker 1/2 - While obviously nothing like Lunar Magic and the SMW romhack scene, Nintendo successfully made a fun way to create levels while also providing an easy way to search and play those levels without much BS
Divinity: Original Sin 1/2 - Both great CRPGs, helped revitalized the genre
Underrail - Solid CRPG assembled with Slav magic, what Fallout 3 or 4 should have been
Factorio - A gem of the engineering sub-genre, a outlet for god autism
Kenshi - An actually successful indie CRPG that has actually cool gameplay and setting concepts and executes them well. Also has a dev that delivers on promises and isn't a cringe-worthy political creature
Grim Dawn - Solid ARPG beating out Diablows 3 in quality. Has some decent DLC as well

I think it will have to be AA and Indie Games that save the industry along with Japanese stuff. The problem is that society unfortunately is gearing towards multiplayer trash and to the younger audience with AAA games and its very much pandering overall. We may have to just start marketing smaller games and communities until AAA's learn their lesson and fall off.

There was trans characters in the 70's and 60's. And even one in Gintama which were obvious. The difference is they never shoved it in your face as an oppressed identity. They made it to be more comedic if anything and reletable. There was also gays in anime as well dating far beyond millennia. My whole point is that when Japan does it, it is taken thoughtfully in America and the West its always forced, and very very boring followed by shaming language.

Hoping for a fuckton of things, expecting nothing to change at all. The worst has come, things seemingly geting more lazy isn't a downgrade, it's the endgoal that has been reached by most major companies.
I can actually see the home console market crash and burn, sans Ninty due to their Switch and Switch 2 or whatever being saved, while everyone else moves to the PC for the big non-Ninty contracted games and never looking back. Granted, such a scenario will only be feasible if Sony fucks up so majorly they'd have to close even their gaming division as well, which I can see them doing given how much money they scattered in their music and movie division this decade alone and how many future contracts it cost them.

Here's a question anons, can you think of a game released this decade that you could classify as a gem or a classic that you feel stood out in its genre?
I mean for me it's Vanquish(although I fully admit I'm autistic about the game and it's flawed to shit and also TPS is utterly fucked) and Overload(Again, FPSs are utterly fucked but I felt it was good enough to stand alongside the classics).
Also I haven't played much of what was released this decade because I've had a toaster for 99% of it.

Vanquish didn't get a chance to shine due to the restrictions of hardware initially. It's one of the more deserving games to be game of the decade once the PC version hit. That or Metal Gear Rising or Nioh. I really can't remember any other game this decade pushing a single genre to its utter limits or anything like that. I've seen a lot of games either being shitty tech demos or pushing some mild technological advancement though, like Xenoblade X and 2, Mario Odyssey or Zelda Breath of the Wild. Granblue Fantasy Re:Link would probably be up there when it comes to pushing technology and a genre but it's releasing next year.

Considering how an autistic Austrian manlet had most of his army actually consist of german jews, arabs and black africans and how the neo nazis are mostly mutts in their countries, it shouldn't take long to consider what kind of fuckwads they've always been. Shit, there was one point where /pol/ was taking the piss out of Golden Dawn of Greece because half its followers were albanians, half-albanians with turkish features, turks pretending to be greeks and "greeks"(basically every balkan shitter / racemixer and gypsy pretending to know the language, even if they remained in the country their entire life) and kretan people who generally look as brown as the okinawans compared to their cousins in Tokyo.
It's a laughable situation with only real dangerous people n the group being the gypsies honestly because they are fucking insane vermin. And the pakistani but they only chimp out if you put them next to an iraqui person(and the opposite is true), like what happened to the refugee camps in Greece, where every 3 days either pakis or iraquis would break fences, knock out gurads and torch the other camp(full of either pakis or iraquis) while raping the children and glassing / knifing the elderly until the police and special forces arrived on scene.

I've never even seen how the quartering looks like. Holy fucking shit. I always thought the model for the various soyfaces or the male feminist ally I posted above was that fat faggot who was in TotalBiscuit's podcast, Johny Cocks or something.

I'm not caught up in e-celeb bullshit and the few jewtubers I watch are guys like Donguri and some dudes for specific guides in games like Yataro and others. That and watching attack animations from SRW games.
>Fun fact he got beat up by literal tranny which he refused to hit back.
That can't be fucking real. I get the fat fuck not winning in a fight with another man but a tranny? Jesus!

There's one in Earth Girl Arjuna, but it treats itself with revulsion, and its interest lies in wanting to prevent more genetic fuckups like itself from happening. Mostly just used to further the "protect our environment" message being pushed, as opposed to tranny acceptance or anything.

The quarter pounder a gun control advocate that believes self-defense would show he was weaker than the tranny beating him up.

No. Far right politics in the western hemisphere are mostly a latino phenomenon, with some white ethnics like Italians, Irish, and slavs. Anglos and other core Europeans don't get it.

It makes sense, the only people that'd willingly give up their anonymity are all narcissists and idiots. It's probably not as accurate a representation as you think, though. It'd be like a /v/ meetup where the only ones to show up are niggerpill, DmC2fag and Mark.

At this juncture, I expect every problem plaguing the upper echelon of game development to get worse before it gets better. Maybe it will eventually improve but, and I don't want to doomspeak a crash here or anything, maybe a bubble will burst instead. I don't want the industry to burn, I just want its current ways to stop working so well that they'd have to be retarded to consider stopping. I think the big wildcard at present is monetization, what with recent governmental pushback and all. That issue might actually improve sooner rather than later but it's too early to say.

It's not like former image board users or worse, current ones aren't jewtubers and whore themselves out as the evil 4chan man or whatever. Narcissism and idiocy have always been rampant in the world but the moment social media and youtube came to existence they got thrown out of the fucking window and now we see the fruits of that. Sure, a meetup isn't as accurate but then you pile up the others along with the meetup-tards and the representation stops being that inaccuratefor /v/, /pol/ and cuckchan's /mlp/ at least, given their population and popularity.
I'm not gonna be surprised if the meet ups for /v/ are just barely adult retard crossposters of reddit with the one youtube guy who then claims he was part of GooberGayte or worse, claims he created Vivian.

MK8 is the least fun in the whole series, items are way too vicious and makes every race completely random. You could be lapping everyone and then get buttfucked by three blue shells and get sent to the back faster than a nigger in Birmingham. Kart customization is also incredibly tedious and boring. MKWii perfected it with preset karts with set stats and making sure that you could stay in first if you were a good enough driver even with the occasional blue shell. The customization in 8 is pointless because of the aforementioned brutality of items.

The meetups and the in person shit maybe but most of the original digging and planing happened on 8/pol/ before it got big and /pol/ subsequently banned it.

So, good enough to be liked by pretty much everyone?
It's not a masterpiece, but it's enjoyable for a while and that's already too high of a bar for the competition.

The creative bankruptcy of the industry is going to catch up to itself. You can't keep remaking games and expect people to be happy. Just like how people have grown tired of remasters and demanded remakes, remakes will eventually drain people. They will ask for sequels of these revived franchises or new IPs.
Which of course, we all know that the current AAA industry can't deliver. Why else would they be doing remakes? They're only doing remakes because half the work is already done. They're trying to buy themselves time, hoping that someone will be able to come up with a good idea while they get by on remakes.
This is not to say I disapprove of remakes. I'm hoping Dino Crisis will get remade because let's face it, there's not enough dino games on the market today. What, am I gonna play for my dino vidya fix? Saurian? ARK? Parkasaurus? JP: Evolution? Yeah, right. Fuck off.

breakpoint is serviceable, reaction-wise (different phases for getting spotted, doesn't telepathically transmit it to everyone in a 5 mile radius and isn't walking CSI knowing exactly where you shot from just by hearing a sound). it only breaks down by staying in place to the point you can easily circle around it, but I take that over the whole camp making a beeline to your sniper position.

Big crash will not happen. Slow fizzling out is far more likely, and they will not learn util it's too late to do anything. EA, Ubisoft and Activision will gradually lose ground while selling out to Chinks. Some smaller and medium size publishers will grow slowly over a decade. In two decades they will become as bad as EA and others and the cycle will repeat.
