> BUYAN

Bought a SD2SNES, after nearly 9 months of considering and waiting for black Friday. Also got 2 SFC extension cables. Weird that the controller cables for the Nip consoles are so much shorter than the EU/USA versions. Is that because Nips usually have the console in front of them or something?

> SELLAN

Gonna sell my PAL SNES since I got the NTSC-J and a flashcart.

> REPAIRAN

Still have to fix the middle button of my G602, since it has become a little unresponsive. Fixed the left and right buttons a few weeks ago and they feel just like new.

> UPGRADAN

Still got a disassembled DMG for a backlight, but I haven't taken the time yet. Also got a PS2 with a non-working MODBO, but fucking hell that thing is so hard to attach to the PS2.

ACCEPTING SUGGESTIONS

a soundbase looking at fluance

a new controller not sure, but i think i want a ps4 wireless reciever for my PC, or i might just get a wireless duke, or just get a wired 360/xb1 controller

speaker stands for my studio monitors

new modem looking at a motorolla 24 channel because i hear the 32 have problems with their intel chipset

a big heavy mousepad for my mouse and keyboard to stop everything including my wrist rests from sliding but everything looks like thin floppy shit that would wrinkle or slide.

new thumb drive to play games at work looking at the samsung bar usb3 128gb

HDDs for media storage. was looking at WDgold and plugging them into USB3.0 drive bays instead of installing them traditionally.

softly considering upgrading from my nvidia 1660 so i can give it to someone else and getting something a bit more powerful like the super or even a rtx 20xx or something, but i have a dated processor (3770) and dont want to be bottlenecked too hard, but i hear usually upgrading the vidya card isnt really bottlenecked by the processor by much since it picks up a fair share of the weight of the game from the CPU.

Intel Core i7-9700K + ASRock Z390 PHANTOM GAMING-ITX + Some ARGB Shit

> REPAIRAN

There's an Asus laptop someone wants me to repair, but this is generally how it goes with "REPAIRAN"

1. Person request repairs.

2. I show them how much it would cost to fix as I don't have the parts to do it.

3. They flake out because they don't want to pay to fix it.

> UPGRADAN

Hopefully by February my ITX computer will go from closed loop water cooling to open loop water cooling with dual 240mm radiators instead of the dual 120mm radiators it has now. I already have the cpu block, pump and reservoir ready to go, but I lack other necessary parts. Going to an i7-9700K because this build is strictly for gaming with nothing else in mind that Ryzen 3rd gen would benefit. Oddly enough Intel was better bang for buck for this gaming-only system.

> CONSIDERAN

I considered the i7-9700KF since I'm using discreet graphics, but there was a better deal on the i7-9700K so I went with that.

I'd love an LG C9 OLED TV. I have an LG C6 OLED TV, but the C9 supports 120Hz at 1080p and 1440p plus it has lower input lag and supposedly VRR as well. My old C6 won't even do 1440p at 60Hz without flickering off. I think it's fucking broken, but it does 4K without issues so maybe there's just something fucky between this TV and my video card. I have to enable deep color on the PC input to even have the option to do 1440p at 60Hz otherwise it will only go to 30Hz at 1440p. It doesn't make any sense.

TV scaling hardware being a cunt. Common thing, really. Many mid-tier and up TVs of the past 3 years have native 4k120 panels but are bottlenecked by HDMI2.0 inputs to 4k60 (can't include even a single DP1.4 or else the goyim won't have much of a reason to upgrade to HDMI2.1 models). 4k60 is about the same bandwidth as 1440@120 (full chroma in both cases), so if they can do the former, they should be able to handle the latter. The panel can do it, but the scaler won't budge. I know my x900e can do 1080@120 and 4k60, but 1440@120 is a no go no matter what.

>1080 on 1440 looks blurry. any way to mitigate that?

Are you using GPU scaling or display scaling? Both will look blurry, but display scaling is generally less shit of the two. If you don't mind sacrificing screen real estate, you have the 1:1 no scaling option, but that doesn't seem to work with VRR.

>4k was a mistake

It's good for large TVs so that they still have decent PPI. 49in 4k has pixel density similar to 24in 1080 or 32in 1440. For PC vidya, high PPI no AA has better image clarity than mediocre PPI with AA.

If 4k is too demanding for a given system, it could fall back to 1080p and use integer scaling to map 1 logical pixel to 2x2 physical ones so you don't get any blurry shit.

Now 4k on phones is truly a mistake.

i hope you atleast have some top tier sound system to excuse you spending that much money on a device so bottle necked by physics.

the 2TB crucial MX500 is well worth the money. unless you mean a pcie or nvme setup. i went with a 1TB but thats only because i only use it as a system drive. all of my storage is split across random HDDs. samsung stuff is overvalued. its slightly better, but overall set up to not last as long becasue of the type of tech they use. its selling point is the software, but macrium can do everything it can do, and better.

>>buying headphones over $300

That's a lot lower than the entry ticket into nanofiber biodynamic headphones, even the lowest end models with that are over 300, if you haven't heard one you should try it sometimes it's a not quite the same deal as even decent Vshaped headphones like the MDR-1AM2 / DT770.

The sound improvement isn't equivalent to the price increase obviously but it is there, and the headphones themselves are really fucking nice feeling and looking.

>i hope you atleast have some top tier sound system

Have the matching DAC/AMP, speakers are a no go for many reasons for me so really I don't get much of a choice.

>the 2TB crucial MX500 is well worth the money. unless you mean a pcie or nvme setup

That's the thing I'm not sure if I want to commit to a SATA SSD because if I upgrade to X570 and can free up a SATA port for more storage by using a NVMe SSD, don't care about the performance side of NVMe as long as it it just as fast as SATA.

Was always planning on going for a Crucial, already have 3 MX500 (2 as external vidya drives for easy transfer and one in my secondary build) and they all do what I want.

>SATA

honestly i dont often use more than one additional hdd at a time, even if i connect several. so i just use bays using usb3. using anything like nvme or pcie removes that possibility. one for a system drive is fine assuming you keep it backed up, but for storage? i always go with ease of use and reliability over speed/features.

>>16769548

i use GPU scaling because everyone tells me its by far the better quality option and display scaling is usually trash. not a subject i know much about but that seems to be what everyone says.

i dont mind the lost real estate, but the no scaling option just became a pain in the ass having to switch back and forth and some games behaved weirdly with it.

>4k

yea, i agree the PPI is nice, hence why i went for a 1440p at 27" instead of 32", but even 24 would look really nice. my problem with 4k is in the refresh rates. 60hz is garbage. my sony 1080p TV i bought in 2008 is 120hz. 60hz is inexcusable.

even on large displays 1440p would have been fine as far as pixel density goes. i would gladly take a 49" screen 1440@240 or 120 vs 49" 4k@60.

theyre not common and theyre expensive. i dont think they reliably work for all models ether. i dont trust any of this current tech to last much longer before its replaced with something more universal. usb3 for storage of files is fast enough, loading programs or compiling is another story though, but you'd only need 1 of those.

>headphones

i have listened to very very expensive headphones, and none of them sound as good as even 2.0 systems i can put together for well under $1000 even in non ideal setups. i just cant understand how anyone could justify headsets that expensive when the diminishing returns start heavily after the $60 range. once you hit about $300-500 the dropoff exponentially increases and the differences become barely noticeable. best headphones i have ever heard was from sennheiser but i honestly can barely tell the difference between their 3k headphones and their $600 headphones. in many cases i'd argue the cheaper sound better if i didnt know which i was listening to and was asked. same goes for stax and hifiman.

>its by far the better quality option and display scaling is usually trash

That was true ten years ago when LCD monitor scalers were abysmal, and even then GPU scaling was also not that much better but introduced worse lag. Display scalers have improved a bit (don't expect miracles though) since then because manufacturers actually give a little shit due to having an incentive (some fags connect their consoles to their 1440p monitors) while AMD/NV give almost none because they don't see it as a priority. It took fucking Intel to annouce integer scaling support for their GPUs before NV went "oh yeah, people actually want that, so we should probably do that too, huh".

>my problem with 4k is in the refresh rates. 60hz is garbage

> and none of them sound as good as even 2.0 systems i can put together for well under $1000 even in non ideal setups

I don't agree, every time I go visit my mom her system (2.0 through an amp) sounds weird to me and it's not bottom of the barrel stuff either (at-least I don't think, never cared to check), and if you need to move around the room it gets even worse, granted it does still beat those cheap 5.1 systems I've heard by quite a lot.

If I could afford to have a treated room just for that maybe I'd consider it more seriously.

>i have listened to very very expensive headphones

I did too, a lot of things that are highly praised aren't actually that great, chinkfiman and Stax being prime examples of that.

HE-1s still blew me the fuck away though.

>once you hit about $300-500 the dropoff exponentially increases and the differences become barely noticeable.

Pretty much it works like this for me, If the HE-1 is 100% best value sets under $200 are close to 65-75%

The HP-3 I'd put at maybe 89 but I'm biased towards Vshaped heavily, and those 11% aren't anywhere near close to being worth $59200 extra you'd need for an HE-1 though.

I'd rate the Takstar GM200 as the best deal you can get, looks bad but the semi open design really works well with it and it doesn't have as much quality issues as the CAL! nor does it have bass bleeding as much as it, runner up would be the K371 if you don't want chinkshit and don't mind the harman curve.

>best headphones i have ever heard was from sennheiser but i honestly can barely tell the difference between their 3k headphones and their $600 headphones

True a lot of their models aren't actually that great, the HD660S and HD700 in particular, the 800/800S need modding and EQ to really shine and the HD820 is just a $2200 bad joke.

But it should tell you a lot that the big 3 more than a decade ago were the K701, DT770/880/990 and HD600 and while most of those got revisions that cheaped out on stuff only the HD600 retained the pricetag, the other are sub $150 now, the HD58X is way closer to the actual worth of the thing.

>same goes for stax and hifiman.

Well yeah clinically sterile and overly bright sound ain't nice to listen to, but deaf boomers can't hear treble so it balances out for them.

Estats are an interesting thing but the ESP-95X is much better value than anything else out there, those are scarily near the endgame if EQed but they can't into bass quantity and there's tons of quirk I'd rather not deal with, I'd love to give the Raal SR-1A a go sometimes, those seem like they're actually trying to improve the Estat design and not just rely on fame like stax.

I used to think high end planars were a complete joke for the price (especially Audeze and chinkfiman) when shit like the T50RP and mods exist, but then I got to try the Abyss 1266 and that's a whole different story.

My headphones. The hinge broke on the right side, the left hinge was broken when i found them in the dumpster and i fixed that easily with tape. The right hinge is far more fucked and tape didn't do well. It held but not properly only the top of the headphone would sit above my ear leaving it sticking out like so "\" against my head. This really fucked how it sounds surprisingly so i super glued it that failed instantly and now i plan to use super glue and baking soda to try to fix it. I'm thinking about getting a 1440p 144hz 32 inch or 31.5 inch monitor. I already have a 1080p 144hz 24 inch and a 4k 60hz TV but I can't use the TV for FPS and I feel my 24 inch is too small for FPS. I have always had difficulty spotting enemy's at a distance in FPS games they blend in too well but they can somehow see me so i think that might help. I think i will buy one if a quality one goes on sale for around $250.

Do you guys think this is wise? I think Unless hardware gets much better and one 500$ GPU can run 4k games at 144hz 4k will not be relevant for competitive games anytime soon and thus a 1440p monitor will last me for 10 years at least.

Explained in the post that the system is only for gaming: no video editing, no photoshoping, nothing else, only games. But let's delve further:

1. If I went Ryzen (again) I'd want to go all the way up to a 3900X to get close to the performance of a 9900K or 9700K for a strictly-gaming system.

2. The 3900X is difficult to find. It goes out of stock frequently and is almost always priced far above MSRP.

3. X570 motherboards for Ryzen are more expensive than Z390 motherboards for Intel.

I get that people want Ryzen to kill Intel, but for gaming that is simply not happening especially with low stock of the 3900X and at the prices retailers are charging. If I can save money on a Z390 board and get the highest frames possible for gaming on a 9700K then that's what I'm going to do. Your budget and what you're doing with the system actually matters. You don't just go Ryzen for a benefit to applications you're not going to be using.

9700k is a bad idea for actual gaming as the lack of HT somehow mysteriously results in much less stable frametimes for modern intel CPU.

Besides I seriously doubt the performance difference in games is worth the shitty platform overall.

Should have waited on the mainstream 10XXX series, it's still a shit idea but less so since you get slighly more mature 14nm, better prices and some hardware vulnerability fixes.

Buy nvidia. AMD can't even match them in performance, let alone exceed.

>I want to play high end AAA games on medium or low settings, don't care about stability, and get the most bang for my buck

Buy AMD, they have better price:performance than nvidia usually and devs never bugtest for AMD hardware so their shit always breaks on AMD

>I want experimental tech that isn't adopted by anyone and will probably never get used until 10 years after introduction

Buy AMD, they cram stuff like this into their GPU's and then the technology stagnates and goes unused by everyone until nvidia does it too.

>Honestly I don't even care about the games. I just want a software suite that treats me like a fucking child, locks out 99% of the features on the GPU so I can't finetune anything, and lets me apply basic overclock that any basic bitch 3rd party software already does anyways for free

>I want GPU Compute to mine bitcoins or something idk, I don't care about actually using it for research or business

Buy AMD, their compute software is garbage, but the hardware's better at it than nvidia (see above experimental tech) and you'll get more bang for buck mining your cryptocoins with amd

>I want GPU compute and I'm actually going to use it for work/industry/my job

Buy nvidia but frankly you ought to already know this

In general: AMD gpu's are hot fucking garbage and aside from the price:performance advantage are not worth the headaches dealing with them.

It's basically the exact opposite with AMD's cpu's, which are a much better purchase choice in performance, security, and price vs intel and an example where their forward thinking experimental tech actually paid off for once.

When I watched reviews and benchmarks I actually saw the complete opposite: better frame times in multiple games VS the 9900K with its hyperthreading. The only engine that fucks up on 9700K without hyperthreading is Rockstar's RAGE engine and that is only possible in a certain scenario in which it hits a really high framerate it starts stuttering and hitching. That's more of a problem with Rockstar's engine than the CPU itself.

Could be a scheduler fuckup. SMT/HT is only a net benefit if the workload requires more threads than the CPU has physical cores. Otherwise, you risk the scheduler tossing two threads onto the same core even though another one is available. Depends on how the scheduler was configured.

Zen also has issues with Windows scheduler.

9900KS had been released before the info about Zombieload v2 came out while Cascade Lake-X was after. Both are vulnerable to it, as is every Intel uarch since Haswell (TSX support is a prerequisite). 9900KS was benched without mitigations, unlike 10-series HEDTs.

Phoronix has benched the 9900KS with mitigations, and it has a lesser impact than using the SW ones on a 9900k

I cannot find any benchmark showing that the cascade lake X hardware mitigations have a worse impact than using the SW mitigation on the Kaby Lake / Coffee lake equivalent

Could be interesting to see how the KS behaves in that review, not only is it a regular desktop design but I'ml fairly certain the KS has been designed after the Cascade Lake X series, it was closer to a panic launch after Zen2 fucked their shit up whereas Cascade Lake X probably started before or around the Cascade lake reveal in June when the Mac Pro 2019 released, that and monolithic 18 cores are low yield so it needs a lot more time to get enough stock going for an actual launch.

> BUYAN

Another thing I'm getting is a portable monitor kit. I didn't think I would order it, but I talked the seller into lowering the price, including everything I need and giving me free shipping. Why do I need this? It's a long story.

Months ago, I bought a 17.3" portable monitor from Aliexpress that was supposed to be 1440p at 120Hz, but frame-skipping tests proved it would only do 60Hz and anything above 60Hz introduced frame skipping at ANY resolution. When set to 120Hz and running 120fps content the monitor would only display half the frames while skipping the rest. I argued until I was blue in the face with the seller, trying to explain that a 120Hz display must be capable of displaying 120fps content without skipping half the fucking frames. I ended up giving up on the seller and took my complaint to Aliexpress. I requested to keep the monitor and receive a 50% refund since I was only getting half of the advertised 120Hz. Aliexpress ruled in my favor and gave me the half refund. The seller took down the item presumably to avoid losing more money.

I'm not new to overclocking monitors. I have a 1440p QNIX monitor that was successfully overclocked from 60Hz to 100Hz with no frame-skipping problems at all using a thick dual-link DVI cable. The portable monitor kit I ordered includes a different driver board that supports both 30-pin and 40-pin EDP. The driver board also has a mini-DisplayPort input and two mini-HDMI inputs while my existing portable monitor's driver board only has mini-HDMI. The new kit includes speakers that are, in theory, better than the absolute trash speakers I've got in my existing portable monitor. The new speakers are certainly bigger at least. The new kit consists of: Driver Board, Controller Buttons Board, Speakers, Case, Internal Ribbon Cables, AC Adapter, Video Cable, Stand. I got the seller to throw in a flip cover which I will have to modify because of the placement of the controller buttons and the speakers. Also got the seller to give me longer cables and a mini-DisplayPort cable instead of mini-HDMI cable. My hope is DisplayPort will provide more bandwidth and make it easier to get this screen to do 120Hz. The screen should be able to do 120Hz. It's the same model 120Hz screen that is common in Alienware laptops.

The goal is to use the screen out of my current portable monitor which is stuck at 60Hz to create a good 17.3" portable monitor with 1440p, 120Hz, IPS and usable internal speakers. The portable monitor kit includes everything I should need to achieve this. If I can't get the screen to 120Hz using the new driver board with DisplayPort then either the screen itself is the issue or a portable monitor driver board simply doesn't exist that is capable of doing 120Hz at 1440p regardless of what any seller claims. I didn't think I would give this another try after being ripped off before, but I refuse to give up on the dream of portable 1440p 120Hz gaymen using my ITX PC. If only a reputable brand would make a portable monitor with those specs I wouldn't have to go through all this chinese seller rigamaroo.

Possible, but AT is already getting routinely shat on by their readerbase for seemingly being Intel-biased, so it wouldn't make sense for them to portray 10980XE as borderline pointless compared to its predecessor. Unless it's a part of some kosher scheme to facilitate sales of 9980XE as well, but that seems far fetched.

>REPAIRAN

Had to get a new power supply for my computer.

The replacement I'm runnan is a 650 watt Corsair CXM power supply.

My system takes about 475 watts in my normal use, and I kept stressing out my old PSU (it was a stock Bestek power supply), not to mention that it was an impromptu heater 9/10 times. Now my new PSU doesn't even flinch when thrown a really demanding task.

I have a Ryzen 5 2600x and an ASRock B450M-HDV R4.0 motherboard. An anon warned me that installing Windows 7 would be an issue and require USB3 drivers. Simple enough, I thought, but it has not been working.

Tried several suggested tools (Gigabyte one, Intel one, Asrock one, NTLite) and none of them work. Worst one being the Asrock one, considering it's made specifically for this type of processor, too. Neither did just putting the USB drivers in the flash drive manually, nor did trying to run a Windows to Go installation of Windows 7, nor installing Windows 10 onto one hard drive and then installing Win7 from it. Neither did bios settings related to USB/USB 3.0.

The only option I can really think of is using a PS/2 keyboard (only one slot so can't use a mouse) but I don't have one lying around and it's not even a certainty that it'll work.

This makes no fucking sense and I think I'm missing something obvious here. Any ideas?

>Neither did just putting the USB drivers in the flash drive manually

Where exactly did you put them? I understand that you're supposed to edit install.wim and shove the drivers there in a specific place.

Also, try this:

community.hwbot.org/topic/166612-windows-7-x64-sp1-with-integrated-drivers-for-zen/

First post has an already modified image, halfway through the thread there's a guide on how to make one yourself.

>installing Windows 10 onto one hard drive and then installing Win7 from it

That will get you working USB while installing W7 because you're running in an evironment with the necessary drivers (W10), but if you didn't install the USB drivers as part of setting 7 up, then once you reboot into 7 you'll lose USB because the drivers aren't available anymore.

>The only option I can really think of is using a PS/2 keyboard (only one slot so can't use a mouse) but I don't have one lying around

Use a PS/2 mouse and onscreen keyboard.

>it's not even a certainty that it'll work

Should just werk. Trust me, I work for a reputable video game company.

Point is, you either modify 7's install.wim (manually or via tools) to include the required USB drivers or you launch the installation in an environment that bypasses that requirement and install the drivers as part of the setup process.

I ended up figuring it out in the most roundabout of ways, by using installing Win10 into one hard drive, installing Win7 with a PS/2 keyboard and then installing a motherboard utility (with no mouse, so that was fun). I think the issue might have been in the drivers themselves which is fucking stupid. You know how I mentioned that the Gigabyte and Asrock Win7 USB flasher tools didn't work? Well, the Asrock motherboard utility, the one made for my fucking motherboard, didn't work, but a generic Gigabyte one made for god knows what did because fuck you. I had to get Lan drivers off of a laptop, put them on a flash drive, use Windows 10 to access said flash drive because Win7 couldn't, copying the files onto the computer and running them. Then had to fuck about for two hours while installing other drivers (ones that actually worked) to find the right one. I think it's a matter of picking an already semi-complicated task with a trash motherboard company.

Now, on the fun side, Windows 10 and 7 hate each other so much that Windows 10 corrupted my 7 hard drive and I had to run that error-checking utility overnight simply to disable and uninstall Windows 10.

Most of the software provided by the main four motherboard vendors has always been cancer incarnate: slow, bloated, unreliable, oftentimes with a retarded 4GAYMuRZ skin. And yet even among that ASRock is frequently singled out as the shittiest of the bunch. Not that the other three are much better, it's like special olympics in that regard. People like ASRock mobos because their Taichi series offers better hardware bang for the buck than, say, Strix. Also, back in the day they had some funky designs like the monstrosity in pic related. It's a motherboard you could theoretically buy a daughterboard upgrade for if you wanted to change the socket.

I felt like looking into this since I just bought a cheap Chinese keyboard for under $50 and everything I can find about this topic is about how the software that was included and had to be installed separately(probably for extra lighting effects during games or macro keys) was spying on users. The keyboard itself was fine.

The software included with a $200 keyboard from Razer does the exact same thing. Might be the same for Logitech or any of the other big name brands in computer peripherals. Point being that price tag means nothing in this regard all the software is shit.

https://spyware.neocities.org/articles/razer_en.html

So far I've already got

<1080p 144hz 24 inch screen

<2x8GB 3200 mhz RAM

<R7 2700X

For graphics I'm most likely going with a 5700 non XT**, even though I I fucked up already by getting a 1080p screen when that card would run 1440p no problem*. Anyone can recommend, or warn me to stay away from, any particular brand?

Still torn on headphones and case. I was considering the ATH-M40X, but I'm not entirely convinced, for the former and the Meshify C or H510 for the lattter, though I'm not a fan of how they have no optical drive slots. If anyone could recommend some alternatives within the same price range I'd be grateful.

Also has anyone ever had any problem with Corsair PSUs? I was thingken about getting a TX750M but a friend of mine told me to stay away since he's had trouble with one of their >>16769408

>AOC 24G2U

I was about to buy that myself, but I read a buttload of reviews on Amazon saying AOC has 0 quality assurance and it's very common for panels to ship with massive backlight bleed or DOA pixels, so you're basically playing gacha with customer service over and over until you roll one that isn't fucked. If you luck a good one out, it's a great deal for what you pay. Ultimately I chose to go the safe route and got an LG instead.

I'm selling my computer.

My PC has Ryzen 5 1600(which forced me to W10), GTX 1060 6GB OC etc etc. Since I got busier with adult life, I didn't use to play as much anymore and having to reinstall windows 10 due to it breaking itself was a massive waste of time that randomly stole a day from me, sometimes when I didn't have time to lose, which was unbearable. I ended up going to linux over a year ago since it's a more stable system and doesn't steal my time with its retarded upkeep, including the update system which maximizes user pain. Doing this strayed me further from any heavy games. All I've played since then is mostly Super Tux Kart and Toontown, sometimes CS:GO or DotA 2.

As I wasn't using my PC's hardware to its full extent anymore, I could just get a brand new "good enough" laptop for less than what I'd sell my old computer.

Ended up getting a S145 w/ a 3700u and a full hd tn panel screen with the money I got from selling my vr headset(which I miss) and one of my screens.

With the laptop I can still do it all, and have a goodish laptop to take to work or to my classes if I need to.

I don't plan on getting a new laptop until thunderbolt 3 is common so I can just buy a graphics card and plug it in, having a way more powerful laptop that will be powerful when I need it, at home. Besides, it will be way cheaper and upgradable than the cooray-z gaman laptops.

I'm probably going to get a PS5 even though my last console was a snes since I really like Nioh and wish to play nioh 2. We'll see how that goes.

>Headphones

If the form factor, portability, detachable cable of the M40X are what you want it for, get the Takstar Pro82 / GM200 instead, they sound better and the build quality is comparable, the GM200 is more bass heavy and comes with a mic not to mention the gaymer look.

If you want straight up better sounding (more neutral sounding instead though) at the cost of portability / detachable cable get the ATH-A550Z, they're also pretty damn decent for gaming because they sound wide as fuck and have very good positionning for closed cans of that price.

If it's still going on the Fidelio X2HR can be had for under 100 bucks, and that's a fucking deal.

If you want the poorfag special, get the CAL! or any of the Superlux with a pair of replacement pads (668b, 330 and 662 EVO recommended above all the others)

If you have any audiophile gear / want any /have a very specific idea of what you, I can adjust that.

>Never buy a headset,

While this is usually good advice there is now a bunch of headsets that are pretty much just a pair of decent headphone with a mic for the price of a similar headphjone with a separate mic

The HyperX lineup is exactly that, a pair of Takstar Pro80 with a coat of paint, a mic and different tuning, they're worth it if you like Vshaped closed backs and can find them under 40-60 bucks, they're not exactly that great for gaming but as allrounders they're perfectly fine.

In that case I'd say keep the same recs and add the Senheiser HD58X, Audio Technica AD500/700/900X, AKG K702/712/7XX, AKG K361/371, Phillips Fidelio L2 (probably have to go chink or secondhand), maybe Hifiman HE-4XX, Maybe Fidelio X2HR,

If you're really lucky a Denon AH-D600 secondhand.

If you're willing to push your budget a bit Fostex TR-X00, E-MU Teak, Denon AH-D5200, Audio Technica ATH-A1000Z / ATH-A990Z, Hifiman Sundara, maybe beyerdynamics Amiron Home / DT1770/DT1990

Or seconhand Fostex TH-600/610/900, Denon AH-D7200/AH-D7100

All of those you don't really need an amp for, some you don't at all.

Well some of those still fit that budget so it should be fine.

eBay has a decent chunk of seconhand and some insane deals from time to time.

>While you're at it, can you recommend some good entry level amp I could get?

Creative Sound Blaster E5 / G5 / G6 (not the X-Fi / E1 and frankly the E5 is easily the best value of the bunch)

SMSL Audio M3

Xduoo XD-05/XD-05 Plus (the plus has twice the output power and a few kinks sorted out)

Topping DX3 Pro (V2, the earlier units had issues)

JDS Atom (you'll want a separate DAC for that though since that one is just the amp where the other are combo units, something like a topping D10/D30)

Outside of the Sound blaster one they all have more than enough power to drive anything that isn't insanely inneficient and they all fit under 250. with a couple of those being under 100

Schiit is like it's name would suggest, shit, don't get memed iinto getting one, esepcially if outside the US.

Nvidia's cards are more stable in every department, save for mining.

AMD's only got price/performance and crypto mining going for them.

I'd say that the GTX 16 series is good for most (GTX 20 is the enthusiast line that has all the ray-tracing cores. GTX 16 just has Turing's performance without the ray-tracing.).

That is, if you don't feel like going for GTX 10 series (Pascal cards), which are cheap right now since that generation just passed.

I would replace my card, but there's little reason for me to do it until I do a motherboard swap on my PC.

Simple.

>you want to game?

Nvidia's the better choice, since going AMD can be screwy with anything independent/old or using OpenGL.

>I work, but don't mine cryptos.

Again, Nvidia makes better graphics processors for general workloads. AMD doesn't have good computing performance in their GPUs.

>I have little care for preformance and want more bang for my buck.

AMD. Price-performance is better with them, but they add in a lot of stuff that is never implemented until Nvidia cards add it.

>I don't care about videogames, but wanna mine crypto with my card instead.

AMD. I already said their GPUs have crap computing, but mining crypto is the only place they excel. Now I'm wondering why 2017 saw a massive rush of people buying Nvidia GPUs for mining…

In short, AMD's system processors are good buys especially now that Intel keeps putting out the same thing every generation, but AMD's graphics processors aren't worth dealing with unless your playing the lottery for nerds otherwise known as "Bitcoin".

Most beginner fightsticks have a real arcade stick over membrane buttons.

You might as well work either on or in a real "tournament style" stick now so that it will last into the future. as you can't change the buttons in a beginner's fightstick.

They're nice, not as heavy as you would think, not as comfortable as you would think though.

The sound is a nice pleasing Vshape without middlefinger treble like beyer or missing frequencies like the Fidelio X2, and it's wide maybe not speaker wide but about as wide as I've heard.

Doesn't need some super autistic setup either, it really sound fine from the onboard, although it doesn't hurt to have an external dac / amp for a lower noise floor because they're fairly sensitive.

If you can get them for 800 bucks they're pretty much everything you should expect from an higher end dynamic geared towards listening pleasure

I would also like an answer to this, I've been thinking about getting a second panel since my first is a TN 1080p 144hz, I figured I'd get a lower refresh rate 1440p VA for graphically demanding games that wouldn't reach 144 frames at ultra. That way I can remain flexible while having the added benefit of TWO screens, even though I cucked myself out of a possible future multi monitor sim rig unless I also replace the 1080p one.

Follow up: I took the screen out of the previous monitor, assembled it into the new kit and it does 120Hz properly now with no frame skipping issues. The shitty driver board was the issue after all. The speakers in the new kit were larger and sound less terrible than the others, but still not good. So finally, I achieved the dream of a portable 17.3" 120Hz 1440p IPS monitor. Fast, smooth motion of 120Hz combined with the high detail of 1440p that I can take with me anywhere. The dream is real. Only shortcoming is that the internal speakers are still not good.

The portable monitor has multiple inputs, 1 mini-DP and 2 mini-HDMI, so I can plug my Nintendo Switch dock into it as well as my mini-ITX PC. I already disassembled the colossal waste of plastic of the original Nintendo Switch dock and put the internal hardware into a more compact shell so my Switch dock is properly portable.

>>16806774

1440p adds a lot of pixels thus a lot of detail and clarity to the image, but then you need better hardware to run it. That aside, if your choice is 1440p 60hz or 1080p 144hz then just get the high refresh rate 1080p as that's going to have far more benefit in gaming.

Ideally, you'd just have one monitor that does both 1440p and high refresh rate so you can run what you want on the same screen without fucking around trying to run a game on monitor 1 or monitor 2. You'd be surprised how retarded games can still be with multiple monitors. I ran Metro Exodus with both my monitors active and it created its own bizarre shitty resolution then locked the resolution options entirely so I couldn't fix it without killing the game, going into NVCP, deactivating my second monitor, then running the game again, but of course the resolution it created persisted in other games until I restarted the PC.

A 1440p high refresh rate monitor would likely last through multiple builds, as your hardware is upgraded you could make better use of it for newer games instead of only older games. Not much benefit in multi-monitor setup unless you want it for productivity tasks.

>does 1440p make a significant difference

Not really, games generally look better thanks to higher pixel density so you get less obvious jaggies and can turn the AA down a bit and get similar fidelity. Is it worth the performance hit or price? Probably not if performance is your concern and if visuals are what you want panel type has a much bigger impact on visuals.

If it's going to be on the desk it'd depend on placement and space usage. You could consider placing your monitor on top of the case, similar to some computer labs or libraries. Maybe not with flimsy sheet metal or glass cases.

Consider a small table for the computer. A computer stand might be worth looking into.

With the different Mobo sizes, you'll really just be trading off expansion slots for size.

As for performance, on the second build: integrated processors are questionable if you want performance. But I say this because of old experience with intel, take with a grain of salt. Did you run both builds by pcpartpicker?

The 8bitdoSF30pro. A pretty damn versatile controller with an assload of features. Also 8bitdo controllers have Xinput out of the box so you don't have to work with programs like SCP and Zadig to get it to work. Also if you have a switch or android you can use it for those as well. I've heard people say the SF30 pro is uncomfortable to use with the thumbsticks after awhile because of the missing handles. And the triggers don't look very easy to press. DS4 is your standard controller with all the bells and whistles. The start button is some next level retarded nigger shit since it doesn't protrude so it's hard to press. That's probably the only issue I have with it, and the fact that if you're using it wired the connection is incredibly finnicky and if it moves slightly it will disconnect briefly. You could always get the 8bitdo controller that has handles and that would solve ever gripe I have with it for the most part. I just think the SF30 is made for tiny chink hands and can't see it being comfortable over a long while.

I wouldn't recommend 8bitdo, they're not the worst but still break rather easy.

DS4 is obviously a choice if you want symmetrical layouts, it's not that great, and don't get memed by the "v2 fixes everything" meme because it doesn't, it fioxes the reliability but the Dpad is stilml diagonal prone and the elevated area around it and the face button still iss uncomfortable as fuck.

Usually stuff by Hori is fairly resistant and easy to repair so that's a good choice, you can nab the PC exclusive one new from japan for around 40 bucks, only lacking thing is triggers but othe than that it has a few nice things like a Dpad <-> left stick switch for those older games that don't play well with Xinput and an insanely good turbo function that is better than any software solution I've tried.

I've also been pleasantly surprised by the Nacon controllers, the wired compact is the only symmetrical one, and outside of the Dpad and touchpad it's quite solid.

I've tried a fuckton of chiunk and 3rd party controller outside of that and really the least terrible of those is the Gamesir G3w (or clones), it's cheap and functional but not great or even good by any stretch

I've just scored an old PS1 DualAnalog (the official one with concave sticks) and an Hori pad for PS1 both being in fairly good shape, those are pretty much the elder god tier of their time and they'll do nicely as OG xbox controllers

I'd recommend getting a smaller ssd for the fast loading of shit you use daily like the os browser and shit (which won't be taking more than a few dozen gigs) AND an hdd for all the rest instead. ssds have a smaller life span and you shouldn't use them as your main drives. storage is ultra cheap right now so if you sacrifice a bit of ssd you can easily get a 500 gb drive for peanuts for instance.

Not true. HDD's will suffer from mechanical failure long before you use up the limited amounts of writes an SSD has. But I would probably agree with getting a smaller SSD and doing something like swapping the current game you're playing into it then out when you're done. Based on the games he plays they look like they probably total to less than 240GB anyways.

Even if they are lower build quality than something like the DS4 I probably in hindsight would have opted for an 8bitdo with handles just so I could have a normal fucking start button instead of this flush with the controller nigger jap bullshit.

Granted you could probably just remove and replace the ones on your current headset / headphones, even if you have to compromise a bit on some things it's rare that a pair of headphone can't accommodate a new pair of pads

that form factor is actually for people with money since it's expensive to design something solid that's that small. Stick to mATX if you're on a budget and need something compact.

>that slow ass ram

considering this build has an APU which uses system ram for Vram you're going to feel that slow speed in games through popups and stuttering.

Here are 2 builds I put together. One with an APU and one with traditional CPU+dGPU combo.

<APU:

https://pcpartpicker.com/list/9mHw7T

<CPU+GPU

https://pcpartpicker.com/list/83Xx27

The price of the CPU was manually entered because pcpartpicker is a piece of shit and hasn't included the 12nm 1600 refresh that is 85 dollars right now. I chose Sapphire rx570 because Sapphire makes good shit but feel free to get a cheaper model if you want.

Neither of these builds come with wifi so you will need an ethernet cable or a wifi adapter/card. Also if you can spare the budget I'd get the CPU+GPU combo tbh.

>>16812184

https://pcpartpicker.com/list/FqCjJb

CPU - went with 2700x because its cheaper than the 3600(X) and has 2 more cores and 4 more threads. If you prefer the 3600(X) instead get the 3600 since the difference between it and the 3600X is negligible but it's 30-50 dollars cheaper.

GPU - picked this because Powercolor makes good shit , 5700xt is pretty good although it has shit TDP compared Nvidia's cards, and they somehow put a cooler that is far superior to AMD's abortion while still keeping the price close to MSRP. If you prefer the Nvidia option I'd get an EVGA or MSI brand 2060 or 1660 super. Avoid the 1660 ti it is now depreciated. If you need more performance your only option is Nvidia's 2070 super or 2080 super.

RAM - went with a 3200 kit since I don't think Zen+ is stable past 3200 and it's good enough for gaymen

MOBO - Also chose this because it's good enough. If you want to play around with overclocking I'd recommend the Asrock Taichi or MSI Gaming Carbon instead.

Storage - SSD is pretty fast and solid and paired it with a 3tb HDD so you have room for the fuck huge modern games that come out these days.

Case - Pretty easy to build in and very good performer while not having over the top aesthetics. Change it if you prefer something else.

>went with 2700x because its cheaper than the 3600(X) and has 2 more cores and 4 more threads

This is the worst advice I've seen crop up everywhere.

A 2700X is worse than a 3600 in every single way, not only is the 3600 much stronger in single thread it's also just as fast if not faster in multithreaded applications, and 6 strong core are always better than 8 weaker ones, there's a small point to be made if you want to do only heavily multithreaded stuff and the price difference is relevant enough but this is /v/ which implies the thing is gonna play video game mostly and the price difference is not that great so it's pointless to recommend it, I'm pretty sure just the difference in power consumption would make you your money back within a year.

Now something like a 2600 / 1600 AF is well under half the price of a 3600 and not that much slower so it's definitely worth it.

>went with a 3200 kit since I don't think Zen+ is stable past 3200 and it's good enough for gaymen

The choice isn't bad but paying 5 bucks extra to make 100% sure get Micron E-die is well worth it, and Zen+ can definitely do 3466-3733 on those ICs, whereas there's some ICs that can do 3200 but nothing else which might come on the sticks you put there

>Storage - SSD is pretty fast and solid and paired it with a 3tb HDD so you have room for the fuck huge modern games that come out these days.

Why use noname SSDs when you can get a Crucial one for the same price, I also wouldn't recommend the Toshiba P300 when the X300 4TB is almost the same price

>PSU

I know I like it too but 750w is well overkill for that build, at idle you're under 10% utilization which means you're hitting the shit efficiency wall 550-650w is still overkill but closer to reasonable.

>>16818676

>I want to buy myself some more storage

Get a 10TB datacenter refurb (think HGST He10 / Seagate EXOS) for 200-300 bucks, most cost efficient thing you can do in regard to storage.

The 5600 XT is out now, and there's some potential for 1440p gaming, although I not sure why it's marketed towards "ultimate 1080p." The catch is that a VBIOS update is required, and a slight power increase. Plus, some GPUs do not support it. Any of you have any driver issues with it? GNU/Linux support is what shouldn't be a problem. The price of ~$300 seems like a cheaper alternative to the 5700, and ray tracing still doesn't have much support in current year+5.

The 5700 is so damn close in price it barely even makes sense going for that one, especially when you factor in that most currently available 5600XT were designed for the old BIOS so VRAM and cooling might not hold well, I'm pretty sure some manufacturer clearly said they wouldn't support the new BIOS on some models.

because 1080p and lower is like 3/4 the market. 1440p is single digit and 4k is a meme.

you might run into the issue that it's not supported yet, had the same problem when I got a 590 at launch (could get around with disabling some power saving functions, but that's not optimal).

by the time ray tracing is worth it we will be 2 generations further, I wouldn't worry about it yet.

as for price, check if your store has any promotions (same goes for amd cpus). they pretty much constantly have some game bundle promo which you can sell to reduce the price even more.

I went with the 2700x with more cores and threads because gaming is going to start getting a lot more multithreaded and will turn 6c/12t into the new 4c/8t of today. Even now there are games that use all 8 cores and 16 threads. The other reason was the looming 4000 series he might want to upgrade to later but I agree a 1600AF or 2600 is better for that.

DDR5 ram is currently being sampled right now and there are good odds that the 4000 series will launch with it on the market.

>no name SSD

Do not get these until AMD and the board partners get their heads out of their asses and releases products that come pre installed and configured with the new BIOs.

>>16819153

>cooling might not hold well

Since it's just an aggressive overclock it'll hold up and you can always just use Chill or Wattman to crank things down. What's disgusting is they did this BIOs change last second so there are people out there missing out on 10% better performance.

>>16819379

>hopefully have fixed all of the 3000's growing shrinking pains

That's due to Rome server CPUs compressing everything downward when it comes to silicon quality and binning. The next generation won't have that so when you pay for a top shelf desktop CPU you're going to get top shelf desktop silicon instead of overpriced mid range garbage.

>TDP is also pretty negligible

I was referring to Navi vs Turing in power effeciency and it does matter when you understand better TDP equals better performance. More efficient cards allow for better stock specs on launch and even higher performance thanks to more overclocking headroom. It's the reason AMD's 7 N A N O M E T E R gpus still can't solidly beat Turing. Imagine if Nvidia and AMD were on the same node right now with their current architectures, I'd be a fucking blood bath. There's a reason why a lot of the rumors coming out about Big Navi and RDNA2 mention having much better TDP than current gen.

you were specifically talking about the 5700xt, no one in his right mind buys a navi, if you can even get your hands on one. and for that 5700xt segment TDP has far less of an impact. same for overclocking, the amount you could possible squeeze out is hardly worth the effort, people that buy that those cards hardy focus on OC either, if they give a shit about it at all (most don't).

Even if you had a game with full utilization of all 8C/16T the 2700X wouldn't be any faster (within 5%), that's my whole point.

And once you take into account that most game don't use 8C/16T properly it makes even less sense getting a 2700X over a 3600 for vidya.

And even if you used it fully the energy cost of using the 2700X would probably end up being worse within a couple years.

>nigga that's a Samsung 860. That shit is a top tier SSD.
