So, I bought an Index to play Half Life One in VR. What are other anons using their expensive toy for?

You mean like, people using Vivewands/Oculusmarks?
Honestly the games a little harder to play with the index since me gently gripping the controllers counts as gripping a surface.

I'd play it, but would the gameplay be as janky as the original? I don't really mind it, but it would be interesting to make everyone more agile.

you can now strafe and walk backwards but only at walking speeds. attacking and attempting to block while moving with the controller will be ineffective. moving physically within your playspace while attacking or blocking remains effective. all of this is so that the mechanic of inhibited movement while in proximity of enemies remains. enemy attacks can still have a chance to interrupt your attacks even if you chose not to make a block attempt.
im trying to preserve the feel and balance of the original game while also giving you a bit more freedom of movement.

Blade and Sorcery, VRChat, Pavlov, Compound, Hotdogs, Horseshoes, & Handgrenades, Pistol Whip, and Beat Saber. The new Pistol Whip level is based on the hallway scene from Old Boy so thats going to be good and Boneworks is less than 2 weeks away.
Part of me wants to go full autism and get the Vive Cosmos with the SteamVR faceplate so I can use my Index base stations and controllers. Ontop of that you get the Eye tracking module and Wireless Adapter then you have the most bleeding edge headset possible for too much money. I hope someone does that config so I can know if it would actually work or not.

the controls are simple in order to accommodate the still widely used vive wands. only the menu button, the directional pad, the grip button, and the trigger are used on each controller.
on the left controller the directional pad is used for forward and backwards movement and also for strafing to the left or right. on the right controller's directional pad the left and right controls are used for turning. up on the right directional pad will toggle the controls between tech/trap commands and weapon action commands. down on the right directional pad will change the heavy attack command into the extra attack command for the weapons in both hands while the button is held until you let it go. for both controllers the grip button is used to pick up and put down weapons and items. the trigger fires your weapon (just swing for melee weapons). for both controllers holding the trigger down prepares a heavy attack or an extra attack depending on if the down direction is held on the right controller or not. release the trigger (or just swing for melee) to unleash the charged attack. if the controls have been toggled to tech/trap commands tapping the trigger is action pallet command 1, holding the trigger is action pallet command 2, and holding the trigger while holding down on the right directional pad is action pallet command 3. each hand has its own customizable action pallet for techs and traps to be set onto. you can set which hand is your dominant hand so that any equipped weapon always materializes there. photon blast commands will appear on your non dominant hand's tech/trap action pallet when ready.

i started out just trying to bring pso into vrchat. here is a tour of the stuff i was working on a few months ago.
eventually i decided that vrchat was too limited for what i wanted so now im taking the pso assets that i've already ported to unity and im building a stand alone game.
ive got all of the maps, items, and enemy models and all of their animations. ive also got all of the formulas for the combat mechanics. im working on the enemy ai right now. and the stuff i posted earlier is the planned control setup.

I have an old pocket knife that I cut sometimes with, if that's what youre asking. I had to sell my dell laptop to some chinese kid to afford food. I'm now a phone gamer, or a phoner if you will. Wish I could get a VR to escape this hell. Not even my air bed can keep me above the neuroticism flatline long enough to wake up to another meagerness day. Glad you're having fun with your kids toy. Als why did you spoiler which HL game you're playing? The fuck is wrong with you? It's not like anyone here knows who you are and is gonna make fun of you at the coffee machine at work tomorrow. Is the screen door effect really bad? Is there a screen door effect? Is it blurry at all? Supposing you shot an arrow in skyrim or some other game that isn't a pile of shit in a high arch, can you visually follow that arrow from launch to wherever it lands? Does it induce nausea for you playing for long periods, or do you just get motion sick, if at all?

linux is fine for vive, vive pro, and valve index devices.
however not all vr games work on linux or are buggy to the point of being considered unplayable and and thats where you run into trouble.
the vr linux community is small so there is very slow progress on fixing these issues.

its the small things it does that really makes it feel real immersive. like pushing/pulling doors open or like just walloping a bot with your weapon when you just ran out of ammo
though it really does feel like a (fancy) tech demo where they bolted a game on top.

According to the Valve News Network guy it was pitched as a Half Life game but despite the amazing physics they told them to do their own thing and Valve took heavy inspiration from the project. Boneworks is also the reason Valve decided to not show Half Life Alyx as everything was teleport which would of looked shitty compared to the new standard that has been set. I feel in another world we could of had this + Half Life Alyx into one super game. I only hope Valve can do this but better. With a more clear story and a using more of the physics stuff in the later half of the game would of been amazing. I also feel I missed a bunch of shit despite taking my time but hopefully im right cause more content is good.

I've already explained.
Much of what you could do, is already doable in Garrysmod, and I'm gonna be honest. Slightly nicer VR Gmod with NO BUILT IN MOD SUPPORT while having the absolute shit eating ungratefulness to declare FULL OWNERSHIP OF ANY MODIFICATION PRODUCED FOR THE SOFTWARE demanding a massive drag to get to the actual sandbox which, admittedly as cynical as this line of thinking is, I have to say is a pretty transparent way to pad out the game to try and eat the refund window because after you hit that point it becomes overwhelmingly apparent that despite what they have with the physics engine the actual game is unbelievably shallow.

For OP, I recommend the following VR vidya that I've had great fun with while using my Rift S:

Don't know what fusion is anon, but I've had no problem with them after readjusting the VR controls to turn on continuous movement. Accidentally played the whole of First Encounter with that 'stand in place, teleport around'-type setting
Biggest difference is that you can dual-wield every gun, so it's easier than the normal game. Especially if you play a local, private network game and turn on infinite ammo.
Only thing that was a partial pain in my asshole was the limited platforming parts in SS2 - Babylon. Kept falling in pits, but got past it after a while.

That, I think, is GZ3Doom, which has a lot of tailor-made changes to make it work with regular VR headsets. However, the GZDoom port to Switch doesn't have these improvements. Hell, it doesn't even display it quite right, since it lacks that ah, rounded boxes display that both fancier VR headsets, as well as modes like VR mode in Smash Brothers Ultimate use.
So playing GZDoom on Labo VR is just slightly off not only from controls (gyro aiming I've only seen on GZ3Doom and GZDoom/Delta Touch on Android), but also visually.
My ideal situation is getting the developer of the Switch GZDoom port to integrate the features from GZ3Doom for Labo VR, since the source code is available for GZ3Doom and GZDoom, I think.

It should since it uses standard HDMI input. The only issue is tracking and that shouldn't be a problem for long thanks to the work being done on the OpenHMD drivers. By the end of this year the PSVR should be plug and play on PC for most VR titles without having to pay for 3rd party drivers like trinusVR or iVRy.
Considering how locked down Sony hardware usually is this often comes as a surprise to most people who aren't involved with VR.

I have no camera in my pc setup. Using just the gyro in the headset it works fine using the trial versions. I do not want to play any games where i move more than my head and all the games I am interested in you can use a normal controller. I don't need or want to use any motion controllers or movement aside from gyro.
It should work plug n' play. But fucking soyny for god knows why hasn't done so. I bought it used in a bundle off ebay for an amazing deal (70% off iirc with the motion controllers, a stand/charging station, and 3 games) to be used with my ps4 but after I bought it I wanted to see if it could be used on the pc turns out you can but only with paid software.

>It should since it uses standard HDMI input.
"vr" is more than just the display interface. ever wondered why the camera and breakout box use additional connections and there's extra software?
>The only issue is tracking and that shouldn't be a problem for long thanks to the work being done on the OpenHMD drivers.
sure, after they get the drivers for the camera working, manage to get their hands on the firmware (which is most likely proprietary so good luck with that), then adapt the psmove tracking to the HMD in under a year which didn't happen for the last 3 with higher vr hype.
and I guess the camera's aux adapter will magically turn into usb too.
>Considering how locked down Sony hardware usually is this often comes as a surprise to most people who aren't involved with VR.
no documentation and needing to reverse engineer the hard/software means it's totally open I guess.

Those drivers already exist and have been around for years.
>manage to get their hands on the firmware
I don't know what firmware you're referring to. The gyroscope in the headset has already been reverse engineered so rotation already works with the current OpenHMD driver. It's been working in this state for over year now.

Yes it's already a USB device. You just need to make a connector or buy one.

Or you can use any cheap wide angle webcam to track the IR emitters on the headset which is what most people using the PSVR on PC do.
Seriously the OpenHMD people are 4/5ths done with PSVR and you're pretending that it's impossible. There's even two competing products that does what they're trying to do and have been around for years.
>means it's totally open I guess
Who said it was totally open? It's easily reverse engineered with 3 projects that have successfully done so to varying degrees.

yes, and where are they used? you are aware "being around for years" yet we still are in this shit state doesn't help your argument, right?
>I don't know what firmware you're referring to.
the firmware the camera needs? feature lists mean fuck all. do you even the fuck know what you're talking about?
to be fair, dumps of the firmware already exist but sony is very anal about that shit, there's a good chance if that ever gets more traction they go all in.
>Yes it's already a USB device. You just need to make a connector or buy one.
so much for
<I'm just not going to pay to use my hardware.

>headset
what the fuck am I reading? you really have no fucking clue how psvr tracking works, do you?
>Seriously the OpenHMD people are 4/5ths done with PSVR and you're pretending that it's impossible. There's even two competing products that does what they're trying to do and have been around for years.
is it impossible? no. is it likely to happen? no. I already explained what the hurdles are, but apparently that's not an issue and psvr is only in such a sorry state because <reasons>. not to mention ps5 comes out at the end of the year which will make some devs switch focus (or they get lucky and find easier in there and trace back from it), and there aren't many to begin with.
>Who said it was totally open? It's easily reverse engineered with 3 projects that have successfully done so to varying degrees.
aaaaaand I'm out. yes, it's so easy no one has done it yet and "successfully done to varying degrees" is probably the most retarded statement of the year, and we're only 9 days in. my advice would be to lurk moar and read up how shit actually works and how those "successful projects" actually do their job and what their limitations are and why, then you can come back and maybe not look like a complete imbecile.
