So I tried to get into the Witcher series and the first game was a nice little experiment, some flaws but generally enjoyable. Then I went to the second one and I got PTSD flashbacks to Garbage Souls 2 with gimmick mechanics, awful QTEs, atrocious stealth sequences and even worse boss fights that disappointed me deeply because rather than trying to iron out the details of their combat system CDPR decides to fall for the "souls-like" meme only taking notes from DS2 because the fights are so god damn unbalanced and constantly reminded me of the awful time I had with that game.
I'm currently stuck on (what I assume is) the first fight with Letho with his 2-hits of death combo, so that probably makes me a sort of dumbass because it's one of the starting areas of the game, and honestly I WANT to be wrong, I want to believe that I'm still doing something fundamentally wrong and that I can actually push forward with this game, which is why I wanted to ask from those of you who have played and completed the series: am I fucking up somehow? Is this second game a constant juggle of enemies by rolling constantly like a tard and spamming attacks from the back? Am I underleveled and therefore I die in 2 hits from Letho? In your experience, is pushing forward worth it?
General witcher game discussion, I guess.
I missed you autists.

Is it worth getting on the switch? Ive got a ps4 too, but switch is way easier to carry around with me on the bus.

I'd say you're underleveled, but it's a witcher game: alchemy is a big part of it, often people are properly leveled but don't use potions.
If you're coming of the first one, it's sorta understandable: the first game had alchemy, but you barely needed to use it, it was more of a "win more" button.

Get it on the PS4 if you care about GRAFIX. Get it on switch if you want to play it on your commute or something.
Keep in mind it's not like Monster Hunter or Pokemon where you pick it up and drop it at a whim: everytime you resume playing you lose a minute to get your bearings and remember what quest you were doing before. For me, that gets anoying to the point I won't play that sort of game unless I'm home, on my PC.
Switch is for Mario Kart, Smash and assorted stuff.

for witcher 2 just level up quen a bit and you become practically invincible; no need for pots or anything just spam the shield after it breaks

use heavy attacks on letho to make it go faster. His attacks aren't hard to dodge especially if you have the double roll perk but keep quen on in case you fuck up. Once you've gotten used to the mechanics, the game gets much easier. I got stuck on letho for a while but that was probably the hardest fight for me.

I seem to remember that the cheap way of Aard+two light attacks is the way to go. You're kind of weak whatever you go with at that point.

TW3 doesn't deserve the hate that it gets here, the combat is nothing to write home about but the rest of the game is superb and completely makes up for it except for the gay ass GPS all games have nowadays

It's still buggy, writing literally goes "it's current year", and rpg mechanics are even more stripped down. Still enjoyed it, though that may be more due to its competition these past five years from western developers.

Only one line of dialog does that, on a borderline condescending tone, there's far more of the opposite though.
>rpg mechanics are even more stripped down
The series was never about hardcore roleplaying so i don't really mind, though it is true that if you're looking for a new vegas-esque game in rpg terms, you'll be disappointed.

Recently replayed through the series.
1 has not aged as well as I thought it had. While old Bioware games take on a god quality with the story, in 1, the mechanics of walking through the swamp and vizima ware out quickly. Music is top tier of the series and I got locked out of the main quest while investigating the murders. Also best alchemy system with mixing different ingredients.
2. has the problem on 1 in that it's too linear, in my opinion. you get shuffled from 3 areas and make choices that don't matter Sword play is dark souls like and a lot of polish is put into it, you can't help but feel that compared to 3 it seems quaint in comparison.
With Letho, Aard, Yrdan and 1 or 2 light attacks. You wanna chip at him and don't let him ever touch you.
3 I both love and hate. I hate how any previous decisions in 2 are cancelled but I love the search for Ciri. I hate the story afterwards as it goes off the rails with the attack on Kaer Morhen but I love the character interactions between people. I hate how you have to hunt for Gwent cards but I love having a full deck to play with (Northern faction with a full line of sorceress is OP), I hate how Geralt rolls around in combat but on the harder difficulties you do have to think how you approach a fight.
There's a lot wrong with 3 (Sigi being stupid and deciding to kill the Temerians when he's bloody king already, Current year politics and DRM quest isn't as good as they thought it was) but the one thing that balances it out is the mods. Mod in so Geralt does a spin in combat instead of a roll and now he's slicing up 5 bandits all standing up because he's that good. Leveling up epic weapons means I can now have Moonblade instead of just the witcher gear at higher levels. Mod for Witcher 1 music means that River of Life plays in no man's land, giving you a genuine sense of wandering.
There's also little mods like better torches, Aard and Igni looking High rez, Gwent cards using TCG artwork instead of boring W3 artwork, expansion of the decks, more mutagens and skills, auto-apply oils and such. The mods made me like Witcher 3, even if it was crashing every hour due to having so many.

I only liked the first one. Never beat it though, I think I tried two or even three times and every time I dropped it somewhere around getting access to the good part of the city, I don't know why.
The try I enjoyed the most was with Flash's difficulty&rebalance mod. I actually looked forward to unlocking more stuff to have a better chance against brutal monsters, and I actually had to use potions and oils. For example, ghosts are almost invulnerable without that ghostbuster oil, and just hitting enemies' vulnerabilities is enjoyable.

Witcher 3 was filled with way too much fedora-tipping. It was as if the entire Novigrad segment was written by Amazing Atheist. People who said this game was based and redpilled and that slavs were saving the game industry were fucking retarded. Plenty of leftist poz in this game, too - it just lacked feminism and niggers like in typical western games.

Jew pogroms happened IRL because Jews subvert and destroy their host countries. The Mage pogrom in Novigrad happened because le christians are le ebil nadzees. It was cringey and shallow.
Also, if supernatural demons and shit existed IRL like in the Witcher universe then I doubt there would be much fedora tipping.

Weren't the mages and their cabal established as a literal international organization subverting the sovereign kingdoms of the north? hence Radovid's persecution of them.

If this was mentioned at all in the game it was buried in some optional lore book that nobody reads. It was painfully obvious that the mages were made to be sympathetic, shoved into a ghetto unfairly, and that the witch hunters and the church were just moustache-twirling villains whose motives were never elaborated on other than "must kill witches and other races because they're different".

It's alright but does nothing new as a card game on the only IP they have, "Single-player Campaign", instead of focusing their resources and time on worthy endeavors, like optimizing and fixing GOG Galaxy, they focused on whoring out the Witcher IP, game is late to the digital card game trend, probably will suffer the same fate as the Witcher MOBA.

I really liked the first game, the only real weakness is that the 2nd Act "let's play Sherlock Holmes and occasionally wander through a swamp" was terrible, enough to put me off of the game for awhile but the 3rd and 4th acts are so awesome you wonder WTF they were thinking with the awful pacing earlier in the game.
When the second game came out years ago it was immediately mocked for being a sonic the hedgehog simulator, although I really liked the characters, writing and it had some of the best fantasy armor designs and outfits of all time.
For some reason I was never interested in TW3, not sure why.

First off, the second game is all about the mages and sorceresses conspiring. Who knew sequels tend to follow on from what the previous entries did? Secondly, even if your bullshit was true, reading lore and explanatory entries is pretty normal for RPGs. You can't bitch and moan like the cock gobbler you are when some in-game explanation is available.

I don't remember right now where it was but i'm pretty sure that was the case, perhaps TW2 lore?
>It was painfully obvious that the mages were made to be sympathetic
Don't forget you're playing from Geralt's perspective, of course he's going to side with the mages His 2 main lovers are mages, he's an outcast himself as well.
>witch hunters and the church were just moustache-twirling villains
yeah i agree that was a bit too much
>"must kill witches and other races because they're different".
I got the entirely opposite feel, if anything knowing the lore the persecution is justified, you can also almost always side against the "SJW"-ish faction too, you can side with a literal wife beater drunk baron in a sidequest and that's the best ending for it.

What?
I also don't think the sherlock holmes section was that bad. A bit slow, but the first act wasn't a whole lot faster.
