LET'S ROCK EDITION

What PS2 game are you playing /v/?

I just finished hacking my PS3, and installing Armored Core 2 on it.

I'll probably install DMC and Rape Escape 3 later. Should I download the DMC HD collection, or install every game individually?

What a low effort OP. You could at least try.

Wanna emulate PS2? Don't use PCSX2 1.4.0, it's old and outdated. Use SVN builds: https://buildbot.orphis.net/pcsx2/

Need PS2 bios files?

https://the-eye.eu/public/rom/Bios/ps2/AppNee.com.All.video.game.consoles.BIOS.files.collection.PS2.AIO/

Need PS2 iso's?

Part 1: https://archive.org/details/RedumpSonyPS2NTSCU

Part 2: https://ia801604.us.archive.org/7/items/RedumpSonyPS2NTSCUPart2/

Playing on real hardware or planning to? Fat PS2 models are best, since loading games off of a massive SSD is the fastest and most compatible way to play PS2 games with FreeMcBoot. If you don't have a friend with a modded PS2 or some other way of getting FreeMcBoot to boot on your PS2, check around online for people selling pre-flashed memory cards with it already installed.

I recently got cheap physical copies of DMC3SE, Ace Combat 04, and Digital Devil Saga. I've played them all before, but it'll be nice to see them on hardware, especially AC4, which I always felt emulated terribly no matter how many times it was "fixed".

>>16759466

>Should I download the DMC HD collection, or install every game individually?

I'd recommend the collection specifically for DMC1, and the PS2 version for DMC3. For whatever reason, DMC1's western version had a completely different control scheme to the Japanese release and no option to change it, but the Collection fixed it.

To be fair, in my experiences it's easier to dump PS2 ISOs onto a CFWed PS3 since you can just use a standard ftp and don't have to worry about using a specific installer program/drive/cords. Still, that assumes it's a properly PS2 backwards compatible PS3, and those can have their own issues in terms of longevity and/or incompatibilities (though even various PS2 models have issues with PS2 games).

>>16759779

Should mention that if one goes through the process of using a premade modpack when modding a PS2 drive, that should install uLaunchElf onto the drive, which is all you need to run a FreeMcBoot installer off a USB. So it's another option without needing to know someone with FreeMcBoot, or buy a preflashed card/pay for flashing services.

If you have a backcompat PS3 it is worth it if you want to play PS2 games through HDMI and want to replace its internal hard drive to use SATA and not IDE. PS2 component is cheap though, so you can just stick to what you have.

I already have it too. Isn't the backwards compatability imperfect though? Is it just emulation? I just wanted one for PS3 games, though maybe this is the wrong thread to ask about that.

For the 20 and 60gb fat PS3s (or rather, the systems that originally used those drives, be that those are replaceable), those had the actual PS2 emotion engine cpu inside. They have hardware backwards compatibility, albeit I assume it's the equivalent of a later model PS2 than an earlier one (since even with the PS2 compatibility varies). The 80gb used software emulation for its backwards compatibility, and is thus more prone to glitches or outright not playing particular games. I want to say that with CFW Slims can access COBRA for emulation as well, but I haven't had experience with doing so myself. All PS3s are PS1 backwards compatible, but I've heard that compatibility can be iffy on a game to game basis (supposedly Legend of Legaia has a gamebreaking bug ran on PS3 vs PS2 and PS1, for example).

Playing DMC for the first time. Difficulty curve is a roller coaster, but it's fun. I sure hope to see what fun sequels it has :^). What games are worth trying in the Dynasty Warriors series, in terms of gameplay? Normally I go with release order but the torrent of sequels spells bad news.

If you mean can you put the installer on a thumbdrive and run it through the USB slot, sure, as long as you have access to uLE on internal drive. If you mean running games themselves via USB, technically you can (you can put loader apps on both the FMcBed card or the HDD, and you have freedom for what storage the loader looks for compatible data on), but you really shouldn't. USB1.0 is just too fucking slow to play games through compared to 2.0. Works fine for adding/updating small files though.

Also heard something about just storing game data on a computer and using ethernet to call it instead, but I haven't messed around with that, so take it with a grain of salt.

No, just softmodding. Works pretty good, aside from the fact that there's only one or two programs capable of interfacing with it once its set up (isos have to be installed, not simply copied over), and that the system's native PS1 mode isn't capable of reading from non-disc storage (thus no equivalent PS1 loader; you can use a version of POPS instead, but that's emulation).

I used ps4 ps2 classics GUI to create a PKG file for ace combat 4 but the colour was completely fucked and everything outside of the (slideshow) fmvs were mostly black. So instead, I ran it on pcsx2. It's a blurry mess but plays fine. Is there a way to decrease the stick sensitivity? I'm having trouble lining up my brrrrrr shots.

>What games are worth trying in the Dynasty Warriors series, in terms of gameplay?

For the PS2 ones I'm pretty sure anything up to 5 XL is a gradual improvement

6 is kinda shit, has a few good ideas but not really all that good compared to 5 or 7/8 and if you're gonna play it anyways go with the PC version it runs leagues better than any of the other provided it's not broken on your specific computer.

7/8 are faster, flashier and streamlined, might like it might not, PC with TL patch for 7 PS4 for 8 since the PC version has the atrocious 256x256 shadows from the PS3 version for some ungodly reason and they look so fucking shit it's unreal.

9 is absolute fucking trash

Empires isn't my cup of tea but if you want to build your own char that's where you should look

Dunno about strikeforce

Most spinoff play close to what the last mainline entry did at the time and some are quite nice if you're a fan of the specific franchise

Nope, whatever fun you might derive from it is massively counterbalanced by the fact that it's pozzed as hell and in the process of getting chinked on top of that.

>>the last of us

It's not as bad as some say, but it's still a far cry from the rest of Insomniac's catalog which is already overrated although by no means bad or even mediocre

Nope, it's shit like the vast majority of games in the same genre and it's pozzed on top of that

>>uncharted 4

Shittiest among a franchise that's strictly made of games in the shittiest adventure genre aka on a rail platformers
