How did bungie go from making Halo to this half baked mess? It's unfathomable how they could fall so far

I hate everything video reviews mention the concept art for one of the races being moth people. And as all concept art that is scrapped, it is much cooler than anything we got in the real game.

Activison. The original concept was far more focused on a single player experience with drop-in coop like Dark Souls, but Activision wanted something more akin to Call of Duty, with matchmaking and lobbies. If you read the leaked contract Activision also wanted a new Destiny every three years for ten years, with two years of reintroducing content that already was implemented on the previous games, which is the reason why they scraped everything good that they introduced in Destiny 1 along it's life cycle and launched Destiny 2 in such barebones state.
What most people don't know is that Forsaken, the late 2018 expansion, was basically Destiny's A Realm Reborn. With the news of Bungie leaving Activision it all made sense. Since they weren't forced anymore to develop Destiny 3 they decided to scrap all of it and build upon Destiny 2. The game has been steadily improving ever since.

They showed a bunch of concept art in their GDC presentation. Instead of moth people we got spider vikings.

I've been thinking about maybe giving this game a go when it releases on steam but what I want to know is if the god awful micro transactions are still in place and if I still need to use Blizzard, or was it Activisions, shitty launcher on top of it. These are the absolute deal breaker for me

Well they fucked up because I liked the game but they kept going with the 40$ dlcs which pissed me off and the whole mess of D2 at start, I feel disgust thinking about the game, I don't think I will ever play it again.

forsaken is still shit and worse than D1, while fixing hardly anything of D2's shitty foundation. and don't get me started on the writing and "lol lore is just folklore" shit.
also bungie being cunts and incompetent retards wasn't activision, if anything it helped them in the past.

It's pretty fun now, been playing the campaigns and all that. It's like Halo with MMORPG elements. Launch was abysmal, but it's much better now.

>Activison bad, Bungie good
lol, this is the Kojimbo defense again…
Bungie is responsible for D1 and D2. They didn't believe in their product, they re-started the developpment 6 months before launch, did the exact same thing in D2. They asked Activision if they could add microtransactions in Destiny 2 because they said that it was "too hard" for them to come up with a decent story and enough content for each DLC/expansion.
Smith and the other people in charge of Bungo are a bunch of hacks.

>What happened to this game
>game
Incorrect. It's a digital casino with a shooting range minigame for testing weapon skins in. You could argue it is a "game" like any other slot machine but I'd hesitate to post it on /v/. Microsoft products are more of a /g/ or /b/ topic.

>what went wrong
Well I have time to kill so I'll go down the list
>first person shooter
Strike 1 fps games are bad as a rule, first person perspective is always awful because it severely limits combat system and movement capabilities
It being a shooter on top of that consigns the game to being nothing more than a boring pile of shit
>Console kiddie trash
Strike 2
The fact that it's a console game forces it to be extremely limited in its features due to being designed with a controller in mind
>not open world
Strike 3, you can't make an mmo and have a series of small ass instances and levels. That doesn't work in persistent multiplayer games, you need lots of open spaces for players to interact with and physically SEE each other.
Speaking of its mmo nature, it is further hurt by the fact that it's an fps. Half the reason people play mmos is for socialization, the other half is sunk cost fallacy because of cosmetics. By making a first person game and thus unable to see your epic loot and armor 99% of the time, the game basically doomed itself to failure and obscurity
Now as I understand it, when destiny was first conceived it was actually going to originally be a traditional sword and board fantasy action game with multiplayer. With races other than just humans. Had they simply rolled with that instead of making what was effectively warframe but somehow even worse then they would've been fine
But they screwed themselves, guns destroy games, they're boring as shit and devs in the wes will never realize it. Sad!

It's actually pretty decent ever since Foreskin came out and double jewed me.
Anyways, it's going free to play and coming to steam in October, if you were wondering where they were going after getting kicked to the curb by Actiblizz.
