So normalfag news aside, are you anons ready to watch Video Games get even more raped in the ass by the term "Platform Exclusives". Games are no longer going to be exclusive to consoles/hardware but to software. Microsoft is putting in motion contacts/law to make it illegal to stream any game they have to the rights to on any other streaming platform but theirs (Mixer). Welcome to subscription based gaming and not in the click bait Ross way, but a whole new level. The real question will it fail? or will every other platform for gaming have to adapt. You thought Steam DRM was bad.
sorry for the tinfoil, but this shit is getting crazy

I'm just sticking to older games and doujin titles. I've already got a large enough backlog to last a lifetime.

>streaming
As long as people can upload videos of gameplay and critique their shitty games, I don't really care.
Slippery slope and all, that might be the next part of their agenda.

I am just curious how piracy and emulation is going to be effected by this. I remember the outlines for in game content only being able to be unlocked if you watched someone else (usually a streamer) unlock it first in a lobby for a game with a loot crate. Shits getting fucking crazy.

I don't even know where video games are going now.
It doesn't really matter, I have plenty of old ones to play, but I can't help but be curious.

Pretty sure that will be in the contract/ copyright law that will make it illegal to upload this content unless its on their platforms. I know this stuff exist already but this will be more dorected at streaming and subscription "Services"

It'll be one of many failed experiments by Microshaft. Games get attention when people talk about them, and limiting the access to them also limits attention. The most successful games this generation, have been at least on both PS4 and Xbone. True exclusives like Breath of the Wild or God of War 4, were popular for a short period of time, before discussion died. Fortnite is on every platform, and became widely popular because everyone could access it, even from phones.
The thing to worry about is Google Stadia, which makes everything accessible as much as possible. Except, you shouldn't worry about it, since internet infrastructure in the US is so awful, game streaming will be impossible for most.

That's a completely absurd business model, even for modern AAA. They design games so that you never have to leave the client so they can market to you as much as possible. "Stop playing our game to unlock content" doesn't really make sense.

I made this thread cause some streamer who was popular on Twitch went over to Mixer and the real reason is that Microsoft is going to be the first ones that push this Platform Exclusives law shit. Minecraft and Halo(New and the rerelease master collection) are the next games they are targeting for this.

It will fail by succeeding. It'll balkanize both the gaming market and gaming as a hobby. This will serve to push us closer to a true crash which will both destroy and save gaming.

Only ones who play their crap, which is practically nobody. The bad part here is that Ninja faggot getting in on this, which means his Tencent masters aren't far behind.

There are so few games worth playing these days, and none exclusive to Microsoft, so I don't think this will matter much anyway.

Agreed, but I think the thing I am referring to targets people who watch people play video games then actually play them. "Hey check out this sick skin cause I watched streamer fag live unlock it in one of his game lobbies". I dont know where I saved it, but it was a planned busniess model for I think the newest COD or Battlefield.

Valve does similar promotions for Dota tournaments, but that's a very popular spectator esport and they don't unlock exclusive streamer content, it's just a random giveaway to spectators. The idea of gating content behind a streamer, on the other hand, seems ridiculous.

Yes and no. They are inadvertently replacing the bought and paid for journos they used to grease for e-celebs who have audiences made up of viewers who are unable to play games due to finances or intellectual difficulties (things like too young or low IQ). This will end poorly sometimes because a shitty game is a shitty game, no matter what color hair your paid shill is sporting this week. It will succeed because the views and advertising spots will go back to their coffers.
The best thing AAA could do right now is remaster their best games because the young have not played them, it costs way less to remaster, and the final product is already known as a good game and the older manchildren will replay them and get tattoos of the products to impress each other.

This, but also our own /agdg/, and anyone else likeminded enough to make something good. I have enough old shit to play that it won't bother me so much even if a good new game only comes out once every 3 years.

It wouldn't if Microsoft actually had anything worth playing aside from Crimson Dragon and titles that came out over six years ago. I actually wouldn't mind the forced decentralization if content because it would lead to the death of YouTube even faster. Also, regardless, this is possibly illegal.
