Four. Turning, Acceleration, Speed, and Balanced. though for some reason the game groups them into only three, putting Turning and Acceleration together, even though you can look at the stats and see they're different.
Anyway, this was always going to happen. I'm mega autistic for CTR, so when this came out and played almost as good with some extra content. Without paying for PS Plus, which I'm not going to do, it's not feasible to earn enough Wumpa Coins to buy all the Grand Prix items in a month. It's probably technically possible, but I found the track which gets you the most coins per minute, and got really fucking good at it (beat Hyper Spaceway in under 2 mins, you'll get 30+ coins/min in single player), but obviously this takes all the fun out of the game. Even with that, the simple fact that I have a job and cannot play 16+ hours a day every day means I couldn't quite get every item by the time the grand prix ended. Then I found out they gave you four more days, and I probably could have if I kept grinding, but that was enough to shake me out of my addiction. It's not like I was having fun. The extra tracks are nice, and a couple of the costumes and characters are okay, but not really worth this bullshit.
Also, the majority of post-Naughty Dog characters are outright shit, and it's not like I would miss Crunch (the only tolerable one) that much. The costumes are mostly fucking garbage. A lot are literally things like "Green Neo Cortex," and then a bunch of random shit that has nothing to do with anything. Aside from Biker Crash, Scuba Crash, Aviator Crash, and Professor Roo or whatever they call him, none of the costumes are actually from the games. Why the fuck is there no Gladiator Tiny? Why can I not play as Coco dressed like in her airplane level, or in the N-Gin boss fight? Ten million costumes and they couldn't include all the ones from the actual games? Of course, they're gonna save them for DLC like Baby Cortex and Baby N. Tropy, and then mix them with ugly OC shit like Baby Coco, which looks so bad it must be deliberate.
Call me when the PC version comes out and someone has a mod or something to just give you all this shit without microtransactions or grinding. Then I can enjoy the core game with some fun graphical options. But as it stands, all it is is pointless shit that only exists to stop you from actually having fun with the game. You can't play to have fun, you have to either grind or pay money, or else you'll know you're missing out on content. I'd rather play the original CTR even if it has less content, because at least I have all of it, and they aren't deliberately trying to ruin the game for me in order to try to jew me harder.

That isn't the Evolvo Ray, that's the Cortex Vortex. The Evolvo Ray, obviously, evolves them and was invented by N. Brio. The Cortex Vortex then brainwashes them, and was actually invented by Cortex. But the Cortex Vortex didn't work on Crash. Notably, Cortex doesn't make any more minions with the Evolvo Ray after the first game. In the second game, The Komodo Bros. and Tiny are actually working for N. Brio, and Ripper Roo has reformed and become a good guy since he has become highly intelligent. In the third game, Dingodile is made with some new form of experimentation (involving hybrids) and Tiny is presumably tricked into working for Cortex, as Cortex has a history of tricking the dumber good guys into working for him, as he did with Crash in the second game.

The "Progression" was fucked to begin with, because they were always planning this. I beat all the single player content, including Adventure Mode on Hard and every Oxide Ghost in Time Trial, and wasn't even close to having enough coins to buy all the "GP Limited" items, let alone the items that don't disappear after a limited time. I then grinded for like a month because CTR is my favorite game and I'm an idiot, and still didn't have quite enough. And by "quite enough," I mean it would have taken me another three or four days of high level grinding for like six hours per day. They were always planning to add microtransactions, and ruined the game from the start to justify adding them later.

The biggest problems are disconnection and desync. Lobbies are very prone to just disconnecting. Depending on who the host for the lobby is, that can mean the whole thing just fucking gets shut down, or it can mean you end up racing a bunch of CPU players. The desync is just a huge mess. Items will go past you but hit, or go through you but miss. Nobody is where they actually look like they are on the track, and on more than one occasion I've finished a race in first only for the results screen to tell me that somebody finished ahead of me 20 seconds ago.

Beating the game on Hard was fun. The base game is fun. And it isn't even about the cosmetics. I don't use any of them. I'm too autistic to not use the default costumes, and I don't even like any characters that weren't in the original game. It's literally just about having the entire game. I don't play online games or new games in general, so I never got acclimated to this "cosmetics" thing, where I'm supposed to be happy with not having the whole game. I also never got acclimated to games being some sort of ephemeral experience that goes away eventually. I was still playing the original CTR 20 years after release, and only took a short break because this came out. But I'm going back to the original after. This has more content, with the CNK tracks and characters, but I can't have the whole game, and that ruins the entire experience. They could have had a good game and they made it bad on purpose.
To be clear, though, I didn't buy it. My dumbass brother did. And I have never spent a cent on any microtransactions or passes or any digital content in any game. I'm not about to start now.
