It's pretty fucking frustrating honestly. Every time I get to liking the game it takes a shit on your chest. The most garbage aspect about the game by far is probably the camera. I'm fucking sick of getting 90% into a bosses HP and being backed into a wall so the camera scrunches up so all I can see is 8 pixels of Wolf's ass or it just randomly unlocks and I have to re-orientate. In Dark Souls this wasn't as much as a problem since the fights were typacly more strategy over raw input and frontal lobe reaction time. But in this game the "soulslike" mechanic is beginning to show where it fails more than ever because of how much more focused you have to be on enemy actions and area placement.
After that I just feel kinda sour on the game as a whole. I'm enjoying much of the challenge, but it generally feels like blasting through most of the progression until you hit a boss. Then it's anywhere from a few minutes to a few hours of effort depending on how the game feels. I enjoyed bosses being a more minimal effort in the older games. Now they seem to be the focus of difficulty. I had the most fun leading up to the castle gates. After that you could essentially blast through most areas with minimal difficulty.
Really this seems to be the worst Fromsoft souls game to come out. Not sure if it's worse than DS2 but on the same hand there are extreme differences between the souls series and this product. I just really hate (and really enjoy) many of their decisions. It's been a while since I've felt so split on a game. Since it's rare to find something that's so challenging yet so close to actually being objectively balanced and fair. It's a game I would actually like break down and objectively look through and criticize every aspect if I actually had the time.
Ultimately the main thing I take away from it though is that we need more games like Dark Tower from Fromsoft and less like this, at least on a gameplay perspective, not a themed one. Half the reason I like the game is because it's a cassarole of japanede folklore, which is impossible to hate. That being said the soulslike games need a break, if not a permanent one.

I want Armored Core 6 to be like 4A but on PCs with more AC animations like different melee attacks, using hand to brace back mounted cannons like with Human+ in older games, swing cannons around with more flair and drama. Make it more Gundam less MechWarrior. Bring back Limiter Release, Heat mechanics, Human+. ORBIT WEAPONS. Make handguns not suck again. Give us two handed weapons, but do not limit weapon types to just one or the other. Let my AC use a two handed sniper rifle, or dual wield sniper rifles like normal. Give us a heavy 2 handed gatling gun, or a smaller arm mounted one. Give us more arm mounted weapons, too, like arm mounted machine guns, rifles, etc.
Do NOT do any of the online, multiplayer bullshit they did in V and VD. The wall jumping was dumb. The scan mode was dumb. Not being able to fly was dumb. No back weapons was dumb. Ultimate Weapons were dumb. The folding heavy weapons were dumb. The only good to come out of V and VD were the Murakumo physical sword, and the Vendetta sword arms (Which were fucked up by not having a fucking back weapon to support them with.) the support weapons like Sentry Guns, Shields, and Jammers, and the way Laser Blades were held in the hand and were partially "on" at all times.
Why did they remove Machine Guns? Gatling Guns and Machine guns were two separate things in 4 and fA. "Battle Rifles" could have just been bazookas. "Howitzers" could have just been grenade launchers.
Why did they fuck it up so goddamn much.

AC is a completely different style of mech game.
Its closer to MechWarrior than it is to Gundam Breaker or Virtual On.
I'd suggest starting with Armored Core 2, as its a well balanced game thats pretty easy to get into, the iconic Armored Core experience.
Armored Core for Answer is closer to Gundam, but that one is also way different from Armored Core 2 and a lot of folks consider it a poor example of what Armored Core is about. (They're retards, its a great game, but if you want to get into Armored Core, start with 2.)

For those who never played armored core let me tell you nothing has come close to replacing it.
Your AC was essentially a custom built computer.
You had chips that designated how wide or long your lock on window would be, how many could be locked on, and how quickly, as well as range for them to be toggled.
Guns had a variety of fire modes, rail fire where it was essentially manual, guns that would track with lock on, drones, mines and laser swords.
Legs drastically changed what your build would be, quad legs increased load for heavier builds but reduced efficiency with swords, and made you a bigger target.
Hover had a higher power requirement.
Chicken legs had better jump and maneuver, while human based legs where the marios.
Engines and radiators had their upsides and down sides, overcharged output for core specials (sonic boost, attack drones, someother shit I forgot) weapons could overheat your mech which was aids, a good radiator could help counter but would often come with higher demands.
Seriously fuck heat weapons, why can you give a mech aids?
The games are hit and miss, but overall enjoyable 50% of the time even when they're one of the shittier versions.
The game also has a higher skill level then souls games, there are many mechanics that have only been found out a decade after the games release.

Make it more like a proper action game. More combos, enemies do more, spirit emblems only for certain attacks, don't raise each level's XP but rather just put a flat amount for skills and abilities. Give tools more use than "set fire to someone" or "pull the armour off of one or two enemies". Give combat arts a big boost so they aren't almost all worthless, especially the Judgement Cut that needs a big buff.

I recently played through DaS2 again with the Sotfs version being new to me and I can say that I enjoyed it more than DaS3. Well the DLC mostly. I thought 2 was annoying and pandery but holy fuck is 3 a fan service-fest. I remember wanting the DaS2 to be as far removed from DaS1 as DaS1 was from Demon's Souls but DaS3 is even closer than 2. At the end I can't say that one of the games has the ideal amalgamation package of features and it's a bit gay. Sorry for the unrelated post, I just didn't want to make a thread about this.

Too many people shit on DaS2 when comparing to DaS1, but they mostly make the comparison by looking at the worst aspects of DaS2 vs the best of DaS1. Yes, the first half of 1 is amazing, but the second half is god awful; most of the non-DLC areas in 2 are so-so, but none of them can be considered bad. I keep trying to replay 1 every few years, but every time I meat O&S, I tend to give up because going forward means dealing with Lost Izalith and all of its bullshit, or trudging through the Catacombs and all of its tediousness, or Duke's Archives with its annoying as fuck enemies/level design, or the bullshit that is the 4kings fight. Meanwhile DaS2 has so many build options that you can just keep making new characters. While the population has been dwindling over the years, you'll still get summoned frequently in pretty much every NG area. The PvP was also much better than 1's lagstab bullshit.

Nothing since dark souls has scratched the same itch that that game did, it's absolutely maddening. 2 had it's moments (shulva) but was on the whole a near complete disaster. 3 looked really good and had good boss fights, but was shallow, unambitious and safe. I realize that BB and sekhiro are pretty decent. But other developers make good action games too, I can get that particular kind of game from another source, you know? Not massive, imaginative, lovingly realized dungeon crawls carefully interspersed with safe zones and shortcuts. No one fucking makes those.

Nioh has level design that is extremely similar in style to Souls level design. The levels aren't interconnected since the game takes place all over Japan, but as far as gameplay and visual design (though obviously through a nip filter) goes, it's very similar. I only ever played DaS a couple of times so I can't really comment on the tediousness but I do prefer 2's branching linear paths over 3's one linear path with some side content. Pretty gay they removed power stance and faster UGS speed, which is strange considering it's a faster game overall. Not to mention goofy and fun weapons like the bone fist, Santier's spear, lances etc. And yeah I was surprised to get collaborations and invasions even today.

I honestly hated the defense/weapon system so much more.The bullet drop off, and ballistic weapons losing damage over distance was good, but the fact that your customization was more about defense balancing annoyed the fuck out of me. Quads, in the PS2 games as far as I remember, made your swords stab instead of slash; same with tank legs. It made attacks with it hard to use, but they did two or three times the damage, so if you did land them, it was a big deal. That is also more describing tank legs. Quads, again in the PS2 games, were one of the land based mobility choices; the other was hover legs. I don't remember what the ideal form of dodging for the quads was, but I remember hover legs were about starting to dash in a different direction a second or two after you stopped dashing. Quads might have been similar, but its been so long that I don't remember.

What I absolutely didn't like which I never heard anyone mention were hidden areas like the dragon lake below the tree trunk, the painted world and the asylum.
And entering the Abyss was also done terribly. Who the hell would think to go get some pendant in an end game area only to come back to a mid/early part and kill some golem then restart the game (or move out of the area and then come back)?
There's a difference between having neat, hidden stuff you are rewarded with for exploring and following clues the game gives you and just outright having occult puzzles that withhold much of the content from you.
Imagine picking DaS up 15 years from now and not knowing about any of this. Would your first instinct be to look up a guide when playing a game for the first time?

because poise adds literally nothing to the game. At best it gives enemies regenerating HP, at worst it does absolutely nothing and you just wail on the demons. Even then if you sit there parrying, it doesn't even punish you because parries don't break your poise. It just punishes you for blocking that the game already punishes you for. A lot of tools do flat hp damage, making them extremely situational at best because the best ways to deal with enemies is just to "poise break glory kill". Situational being the key word because from in it's infinite wisdom doesn't even keep tool effects consistent. I could basically complain about tools all day and it all boils down to poise being massively invasive but horribly implemented. It hurts the game just by existing.
The parrying system is just done extremely poorly and has absolutely no risk associated with it, "did you try to parry and fail well you took damage" "You block you take damage" "you mash parry the window is slightly reduced". The game isn't intended for dodging, shown by multiple boss AI's flat out breaking by spamming dodge attacks, or the ever popular owl backflip loop you can do by not locking on. So you're left with "parry because from either punishes you or didn't program the AI to handle your plan".

Dark souls 1, 3 was better gameplay wise but the feel I got from 1 was always so much more oppressive? maybe? I don't know how to explain it but it's like 1 is just the best game because it feels a lot less shoddy.

To be fair it was said that From had gotten bored over the formula which is why Sekiro was so different. To be fair it's extremely similar but it's distinct. All I want is from to go make a game like Dark souls 1 again. 1 was my favorite. I was never able to play Demon souls because >ps3
