The HeRo guild went tits up because the game was designed for a community of players in the thousands. Even had guildies to grind with at all times and at all levels, you still have economic issues. Though, you don't have guildies available to grind at all time especially if you get left behind in level. In fact, one of the biggest problems was that asinine party share level limit. If was much smaller than most servers even thought it shouldn't have been in the game in the first place. The shit only exist to extract more subscription fees. The shit is dreadful in a low pop server. If OP tries to get people to play a server like, HeRo, that doesn't address at least one of these issues, the same shit is going to happen again but faster.

heRO died because the server has been around since iro beta and it's filled with faggot cliques that only want to circlejerk themselves to the point where nobody else ever joins the server. The /v/ guild came in, some pinoy/br fuckwits cried about us even though we were literally half the server pop at that point, then when we deserted that shithole it continued to rot with 10 active players for the past few years. Plus it's burdened down with so much custom content that it's broken on a fundamental level.

It's fun to play on new servers because everyone's on a level playing field, but you accept the risk that 90% of new servers will die in the first 3 months. Old servers might stick around for years and years to come, but they have way too much baggage before you even start playing.

The issue is that the tranny on origins (I think it's Haru but I can't remember) is a tripfag from 4um /rog/, who inserted himself into every fucking RO server he could and powertripped like a madman, banning everybody who ever criticized him or his discord circlejerk. He even became a moderator on iRO by sucking warp portal's dick, and now look at where iRO is - fucking dead. We could start a guild on origins since it's probably the "best" actually alive RO pserv, but you have to do so knowing that eventually that faggot will start spying on guild chat logs and coming up with bullshit reasons to ban us.

Also this is more a personal gripe but if I want to play on a pserv with some customization, I want to see champs and creators nerfed. I'm tired of the entire meta of the game revolving around them nuking others. While lots of classes still see play, it's largely just using them as support classes while those two do all the heavy lifting, especially in WoE. Just making acid demo and fist NOT ignore armor would instantly fix the main issue of armor being useless in PVP, LKs would become playable, whitesmiths would become playable since whitesmiths counter LKs (pretty much the only class smiths are good against with rebirth classes), pallies could be more than devotion slaves…it would be so much better. MVPing would be more competitive too, since you wouldn't have people running around with champs oneshotting all the low-mid tier MVPs.

There's a private server opening up in august running the Zero version of the game, first of its kind. It's basically a rework of renewal mechanics built for level 1-99 content rather than 3rd jobs, and has all kinds of little buffs for situational skills and classes. There's a decent amount of interest in the launch, probably enough that if people here and on halfchan set up guilds they wouldn't be the only ones on the block.

The three worst communities are hues, pinoys, and russians. The first two are obvious because they'll flood your server with BR? BR? HUE HUE? PR? Russians are different because if you just have a couple of them on your server, they're actually a lot of fun to play with, they tend to integrate really well with the communities there and have a good sense of humor. But once there's a russian GUILD, it all goes to shit. They only stick with themselves and they will do every dirty trick to get an advantage. Run hundreds of bots, script everything, find exploits to abuse since server owners always forget at least ONE thing (whether it's soil farming, or getting wizards to farm the rogue job change quest, or any of the other things you can do to break the economy), or straight DDOS the server when they're losing their castle with 5 minutes left in WoE.

Hotshot never played much RO, it was his girlfriend at the time that wanted a private server, so she begged him to set up a server for her. And yeah cookie fucked it, Zinnia fucked it, the "pro RO player" clique that want servers to bend over backwards giving them free shit fucked it. Then ggRO became dawn of midgard (which died) and cookieRO (which died), DoM turned into rise of midgard (which died) and cookie is still trying to infest every other pserv that becomes successful, and ddosing the ones he can't get into.

Short story - don't start a pserver if you don't know how to run one and are relying on other people doing all the work.

Guilds are pretty shit on higher-rate servers, but you can also just solo the game if you're a nostalgiafag. Try TalonRO, OracleRO, or Ragna0 depending on how much you want to sologrind versus dealing with guild faggotry. As far as guides are concerned I don't know of any that aren't outdated or irrelevant, but you can simply search for what you need and find it without too much trouble.

My main plan was to actually experience the full of the game with zero expectations from the getgo instead of just soloing, since MMOs are more about player interaction and some degree of cooperation than just clearing content, or else they wouldn't be multiplayer outside of economyfagging and the parent company wanting to jew you with ingame shops anyway. If you want to see what the game's like solo, roll an assassin or a hunter. An assassin can be more useful in a party, if only for running around dodging enemies and luring them to the rest of the party.

If you want people to be lining up to suck your dick have you in their party, roll a priest or a bard. Priest has many buttons to press, bard only presses a few buttons. Both can get through the first few levels solo decently due to priest being able to heal himself and bard having a bow for ranged attacks.

Steer clear of mage because it requires *very* careful skill point planning and knowledge of the game's core mechanics.

Priest (acolyte) is awful to level solo as your first character unless you have friends or the server has a stat resetter though. Healbombing is dreadfully slow and MP intensive, and stalls out heavily once you get to J40-50 as aco.

It also depends heavily on whether or not the server is pre-episode 10 with their experience table though. It was 10.2 or 10.3 that buffed a lot of low level zones to be better, including wolves..and wolves became so overpowered that it was the ONLY place anyone ever went to anymore. Literally on a 4x server with autoloot enabled, you can roll archer or mage and get to second job within a day while stockpiling a hefty amount of strawberries, or even go to soils for the second half of first job to make it faster.

One of the safer first timer classes I'd say is thief. stealing to get more loot helps build up your account to have more things to sell once you make a merchant.

Archers arn't bad, but require you to buy your ammo for your bow. Then craft your own specialty ammo later.

My suggestion if your going in solo would be Thief>Merchant>Swordsman or Archer. Swordsman is what'll let you get to be stronk and agro puller (provoke) if you have teammates to work with. Archer for killing things quickly by the time you're a hunter. If you decide on bard/dancer, you better have friends.

Other classes are good too, there is really no bad class, except gunslinger just gotta find what works to the situation or grind spot.

Priest is your default support class with your standard heals and buffs - increases attack/movement speed, increases damage across the board, gives shields, and also does a lot of debuffing. Particularly in PVP, the priest's role shifts into more of a super tanky disruption/denial class where you're more focused on fucking with your opponents than really helping your allies, although you can still stay full "support" if you want.

Crusaders/Paladins can be played in lots of different ways, especially depending on the version you're playing on. Spear builds are fun for PVM but a bit weaker in PVP, grand cross is like turning yourself in a suicide bomber, and their shield skills provide really unique utility. You can use Devotion on up to 5 people at once, which makes any damage they take instead damage you instead, meaning spell casts can't be interrupted. They can also give themselves and their devotion targets 80% reduction from archers, a 30% chance to block ANY physical attack, and also 30% physical damage reflection. They're a shit ton of fun and every party/guild wants at least one dedicated crusader.

Bards and dancers are ez mode support, but you can also solo play them very effectively as they start out as archers. They lack the raw DPS of hunters, but they get the job done, and their party buffs are also very powerful. I'm not joking when I say Poem of Bragi causes you to play an entirely different game compared to without - having no skill cooldowns means your party will breeze through most areas lightning fast.

Maybe it's because I mained wizard for years but I don't think wizards are particularly difficult, but I do know that there are a lot of lazy, shitty wizards because the skill floor is very low. However, the skill ceiling is also SUPER high when you're trying to kite around entire maps of monsters, or delay a guild from being able to push into you by yourself. It is a lot of fundamentals and knowing exactly what everyone is capable of doing, for sure. And then sages…holy fuck. For as much as every class has some support utility, sages just blow everyone else out of the water. They have tools to shut down EVERYBODY without fail. Wizards hate them because their aoe magic doesn't work. Melee hates them because they can't even close the gap and when they do, they can't even attack. Priests hate them because they fuck with their best defensive options. In WoE, where the battles occur is entirely dictated by where the sages SAY they happen. Whether it's PVM or PVP, sages put in work.

As far as easy starting classes, rogue is literally the simplest class to play for PVM - just click on a monster and wait for it to die. It's a bit trickier to learn how to PVP with a rogue, but you'll be able to explore the game and hunt whatever you want with one. Assassins are also good, they kill a bit faster and have better mobbing, but require a bit more gear to really get going. Hunter is similar to rogue, just click on monsters and shoot them from a screen away before they reach you, and they have some of the highest sustained DPS in the game if you can afford the mana for their skills.

Do NOT start merchant whatever you do well, you can make one to be able to buy/sell items - they recieve 24% more zeny from selling, and buy for 24% cheaper, it's fucking miserable.

If you're including trans classes, sages also become infinite fountains of SP for their entire team since they can exchange SP bars, and if you go full INT on them they can still do decent damage with bolts, so they're perfectly servicable (and often just plain amazing) in PVM. That's the neat thing about RO, even the support classes can deal good damage, and even the damage classes always have some unique skills to bring to the table depending on the situation.

The problem is game fatigue; people know RO, so once they get past the initial thrill of leveling, which they now have polished to a mirror sheen, they find themselves at a loss. This is, of course, even worse in RO private servers where the whole gameplay factor is about leveling up and getting rare drops and boosted rates only reduce those reasons to continue. What you need is a new game; something that people can thrill at the joy of playing fresh, and ideally something that hasn't been recruited for recently, if ever. Isn't the main attraction of an MMO interacting with the other players? I think i said this in a previous post but, I'd assume the mayor drive on playing a private server would be to fuck around with friends and enter rivalries/alliances/commerce agreements with other groups without having the original creator breating down your neck with microtransaction p2w bullshit or "hatespeech" censorship.

If you focus only on the content of the game, it's like focusing only on topographing the terrain of an area for scientific purposes instead of touring and paying visit to festivals and the culture surrounding said locations and then waging war against them for being filthy heatens in glorious conquest.

It's a lot of nostalgia for sure, but a lot of the joy of RO was growing up and watching the world grow with me. Every time a new zone came out, it was a joy exploring it with friends and seeing all the cool stuff in there, of making new chars and getting all my gear set up so I could handle it, and of course the slow journey to 99. I played on a 2x server and most levelling spots gave 2-3million an hour, 4 million if I was tryharding. Yes there were obviously the broken things even back in the day, like farming majorous->minorous spawns in glast heim basement, but nobody on my server knew about that for years until one guild powerlevelled everybody to 99 in a week

I can't even imagine anyone being told "yeah, your final level up will take 40-50 hours to complete, and about 125-150 hours if you're a trans class" and them not throwing a shitfit now. Everybody wants instant gratification. Who would even throw a party for someone hitting max level in current MMOs now when it can be done in a day or two?

My condolencies for the lost memories. It always sucks when good games end up dying due to entropy and mismanagement from both the creator and their communities. What the heck is the "Zero" version of the game? We have descriptions of the changes in the thread, but what was the impetus for making it? Where did it come from? Is it a variant that fans came up with, or did it come from somewhere else, like a beta version or something?

Will iRO ever be fixed? Warpportal recently got their hands on bRO and they basically nuked all the bots from server by adding EAC. There's huge deflation going on in the economy as a result. I figured they would eventually do something about the state of iRO.

The bugs aren't the private Servers fault. I played the official Korean Open-Beta Version before it was taken down and it was a bug hell not to mention the loading times. The only way to go through dungeons was abusing "safe spots", spots the monsters couldn't reach you as they were way to overcrowded with them and they bugged through walls. Going Backwards in circles to cheese Monsters was totally normal. This was also the reason why everyone with a melee main weapon went for a gun as secondary after the white shark quest (you got that at lv 13 or 14 and it was one of the last quests in that area).

The game started on small islands where you had one fixed weapon. Was kinda cool, the dungeon was a nightmare as described. At this part of the game it was still very enjoyable - nothing too fancy but ok.

At a later point (lv 16ish iirc) you went to "Prontera" which was nothing like the original except for the Dungeon with the Thief Bugs. The zones surrounding Prontera had some sort of Thief-Guild, Mouse-Thiefs(?) and Tribes of Lizard-People you could fight.

Towards Lv30(?) you went then to the last zone which felt ridiculously out of place as it looked like some apocalyptic modern city (a bit like Half life 2 only without the Sci-Fi Stuff). It had two parts - it was parted in the lower slums and the upper "slightly better" area. The Zones outside of the City inhabited Mutants, Robots and Bird. I also remember there was an excavator and an unfinished building site. The Dungeon had some sort of "Revolutionists" - some Human enemies. I only went there once, got my arse whooped and then never returned.

I uninstalled cause it took like one week to level up - taking down on of those birds took several minutes for < 0,5% exp. I think I was lv 28 at this point, the dungeon was for lv 40(?). The issue was that I had pretty much done all Quests in Prontera, the next Area either had no Quests yet or I was too low. I also didn't like the last zone. Prontera was fine but this one felt terrible depressive and edgy. Not to mention duo Gear rebalance they made all old gear useless. From what I recall I had a Soldier build with Gun and Helmet. It looked kinda cool but yea - too bad I lost all my Screenshots.

Not sure if it was RO2.1 or another game, I remember somehow coming across this spreadsheet of peoples names and SSNs from some anime-esque message board. Thanks for posting this though. Forgot about a lot of this. Yea those level 30 areas sucked. Those birds were the last things I leveled on before giving up. Piss ugly maps. Game really lacked that vibrant, colorful nature of RO. My least favorite levels were the Biolabs and surrounding areas. Seeing how that became majority of RO2.1 was a bit of a letdown.

Didn't Gravity make another MMO prior to RO2.1? I recall something about having turtle shell backpacks. It felt like a complete rip-off of Flyff though.

Back then there were Guides how to register. It required a KSSN but there were all sort of lists. After I stopped playing I only got advertisement mails here and there which stopped at some point. The game itself was translated by some fans but especially at the later areas it got sparse. The OB had plenty of English speakers. I don't even know whether the Koreans were the majority - only at later zones maybe which barely had any players in first place.

I don't know if Gravity made any other MMOs since I bothered about RO. While I enjoyed RO2.1 (not as much as RO though) it was lacking. I think Gravity realized this and pulled the plug after 2 years Dev time to remake it. After another 2 years we got RO2.2 which was even worse than 2.1.

It's kinda sad that RO2 is nothing like 1 cause RO aged like Milk. Grinding days or even months for levels and 0.01% drops simply isn't appealing anymore. I was hoping for Tree of Savior but they managed to recycle all bad aspects of RO while ruining the good ones. The Devs simply don't know what made RO great but I also think they don't want it to be RO.

Don't talk shit about gunslingers. Optimized gunslingers perform extremely well both solo and in party (just make sure you're using pistols or shotguns, as they are easiest to build around, with highest deeps).

Desperado is a super risky build for farming, the best results I got from Rachel, or party farming in the place where beelzebub spawns (forgot the name).

Rapid fire gunslinger is like double shooting archer derivative, except damage potential is higher on targets that don't benefit from being shot with varied ammo (i.e. almost no one)

Full blast farmer can oneshot evil druids, and otherwise be useful in any place where there is a Bragi.

In fact, it's gunslinger's worst problem - it performs excellently with bless agi bragi, but so do hunter and wiz. The only upside(?) is novelty and lesser / cheaper pool of hi end equips.

Speaking of extended classes (and super novice) I have one of the best pve experiences from them (and expected to be shit in pvp of course, no surprise there).

Esma linker - one trick farmer with superior durability - a bit dependant on SP / strawberry, but not much.

Star Gladiator - very specialized boss farmer (toughest I got is ghost morocc devils for rings, they melt from starglads). The downside is that it's shit for everything else (except maybe flykicking into wolves to farm strawberry).

Ninja is one of the strongest pve one-button farmers (ice spear 1st level, max Dex Int, and you're good to go up to 90s solo with just that). Its variety is a bit different from Esma, as the latter uses 2 skills with element adjusted on demand, Int Ninja has stronger aoe options (although fuck ingredients, going to ninja island every time sucks).

Super Novice is a stupid meme, but it has a few things going for it. The best option of course is double Siroma / Fire Imp bolter who can bless agi itself, and has a cart for infinite farming. Sucks if your party doesn't have priest, as one buffing session empties your mana, and good luck asking that prof to swap SP with you. Very easy to get either 150 dex or 150 int (never saw both, maybe actually possible) resulting in either millions of bolts limited by sp pool and aspd, or stupid high damage from empowered bolts.

Sadly, I've only had very limited experience with a ranker (unless you plan one after the start / reset of the server, there are usually enough autists to push you out of the rankboard). Knew one that had close to 50k hp, and dealt respectable (but easily outhealable anyway) damage.

The best server I ever played SN on was the first pserv I played. The pserv went up right after iRO went pay2play so when news of SNs came from korea, nobody really knew what their stats would end up being. What the server did was actually make them a true jack of all trades class - about the same HP as a smith or sin, actually decent attack speed, enough weight limit to hold things, and the ability to use ANY first class gear except for bows and other two handed weapons. There was so much build variety, you could play super attack speed, or hybrid warrior/mage, full support, crit based, bash spammer, etc.

This was of course before people realized how broken instacast super novices were, and that had to be nerfed when it spread, but man it was so much fun. Oh and it was before soul linkers dropped, so nobody was able to abuse the +10 all stats feature, but I knew some people that would do Fury builds, or even Steel Body builds in WoE. Man SN was weird.

They're rather weak in combat. I think one of their abilities is actually pretty good in this version of the game but it uses expensive ammo. Play some other class, build a decent nest egg, and then decide if you want to make an alchemist as a different character

Alchemists aren't weak if you build them as a melee focused support. Which with renewal is actually much easier due to much of your damage coming from your weapon.

This means you can get less STR, more VIT and AGI to throw potions.

Though unless you are making potions, this is gonna be expensive.

If anyone is wondering what happened, the server we were playing on effectively died a month ago due to lack of content.

Mayority of the guild found they had nothing to do/had to do insane months-long grinding for scraps of gear and left a bit before that happened.
