I don't know about you, but I just love it when certain enemies you face - especially ones that you face often - has one 'good guy' who helps you out or even joins your party. For instance, Goris in Fallout 2 is a deathclaw but is able to speak and is somewhat intelligent. He even joins your team and fights for you. I just find that to be a novel idea when done right.

Fire Emblem does it a lot, too, technically. Some enemies can be spoken to (though there's rarely any indication that they can, and even then, you have to talk to them with the right unit. This can piss me off sometimes when playing blind. Looking at you, Arya)

If you happen to know of any instances of this from other games, throw 'em out now. I like seeing this in video games.

Paper Mario did this all the time before they mysteriously stopped making games after Super Paper Mario. Wonder what happened to that series?

I seriously hope they won't just chalk up Color Splash flopping as just the Wii U's failure and finally get the hint that we want a traditional PM.

Deekin from Neverwinter Nights: Shadows of Unrentinde maybe. Pretty much one of the few kobolds who doesn't try to fight you and is willing to join you if you help him out. He makes a come back in Hordes of the Underdark and easily proves to be the most loyal companion all the way to the end when the big bad is trying to convince everybody in your party to join him instead.

You don't need to pass any skill-checks nor use his True Name to get him to stay with you. All you have to do is tell him that you'll miss him if he leaves.

Wasn't Sticker Star the best selling game in the series? If that's the case, then the "we" who want Paper Mario are as relevant as the "we" who want a new F-Zero.

You can recruit a lot of common enemies in Dragon Quest V, one of them being a sabercat that you and one of the game's optional brides raised when you were kids.

>Wasn't Sticker Star the best selling game in the series?

It was also the first of the series on a handheld where as the two most well loved PM games were on the N64 and Gamecube.

There also weren't many noteworthy games for the 3DS when Sticker Star came out so a lot of people bought it just to have something to play on their 3DS. Paper Mario 64 and Thousand Year Door both came out relatively late on consoles that already had many standout games for them. And Super Paper Mario probably just got buried underneath the initial wave of big name and highly advertised Wii games that came out before Nintendo stopped caring about that console.
