e1465e  No.16734433

I recently got back into Pokémon, and had to pull out a DSi I still had lying around to transfer pokémon from gen IV to gen V.

I was immediately reminded of how much better the design of the DSi was compared to my 3DS XL: very lightweight, one slick colour, no cheap plastic parts that make squeezing sounds when you press a button, etc. The 3DS XL on the other hand, is made of separate cheap plastic parts that can easily be ripped off with just a little bit of pressure, and makes my fingers go numb after holding it for too long.

I can't imagine things being much better with newer 3DS models or the Switch. Am I wrong?

Do you mean from a comfort level or a practical level. In my opinion I think the Nintendo Switch's concept is down right genius. You have two controllers on both sides that you can then give to a friend and then put away. The problem is that it's extremely uncomfortable to hold.

Main issue with the DS Lite and 3DS is that they're fucking frail - unlike Vita and PSP especially. For just how it feels to hold and play, all of them except the Switch are pretty fine. I haven't held a new 2DS but the buttons look like shit (small and weak).

I actually like the 2 screens. Handhelds have limited space in order to be portable, so it's a nice way to add more screen space. Not all games benefit from it, but some games (most notably RPGs) benefit from being able to access a map or inventory while still being able to view the main action or story.

The buttons aren't great for the *DS systems, but I've had no major issues. I loved the microswitch buttons on the GBA SP, but I guess not everyone liked them.

I have fairly average size American hands (5'8") and my issue is that Nintendo has been taking a dump on D-pad positioning since the 3DS. It is impossible for me to play a hardcore 2D game like Metal Slug 7 or Space Invaders Extreme for long periods of time without my hand cramping up because you can't grip the damn system properly when you want to make strenuous use of the D-pad.

Eh, I've single-credit cleared several scrolling shooters on that dinky pad. It's small and a little stiff but it's not in a hand-crampingly awkward position. You can get a good grip and go to town with the GCN controller.

Now if you wanna talk about the inferior face button positioning or shoulder buttons that liked to crap out their highest-strength input those are much bigger issues for playing tight digital action games.

Light=plastic, heavy=metal. Heavier things are immediately perceived to be sturdier, which translates as much to the technical side as it does physical durability. Obviously there's an upper limit, nobody wants a handheld that weighs 20lbs, but when the total weight is somewhere between 0 and 3lbs lighter doesn't provide any direct advantage.

They work pretty great on PC as you can have macros to assign touch commands to button presses.

The only problems are games which have some pressure sensitive feature(only homebrew and a handful early DS titles) or shit that uses multi touch like BiS's minigames.

Personal ranking for handhelds, from top to bottom

>DS Phat (nice weight, good button placement and feedback)

>GBA classic (L and R feel a bit weird at first hand, but you quickly get used to it, and its perfect handing helps a lot)

>DSi XL (bigger, but sturdy as hell)

>PSP (a bit big, and the mini stick might hurt in the long term, but it's easily moddable)

>GB Micro (surprisingly comfy despite its little size)

>GBA SP (the edges are round, yet they can hurt bigger hands after a while)

>DS Lite (light, weak, feels like it breaks if badly handled, weak button resistance)

>3DS (felt as weak as DS Lite despite having a sturdier shell)

>3DS XL (hahahahahahahano)

Might as well ask here. Has anyone been having issues ordering flash carts from nds-card of late? Friend of mine's been trying to get a 3DS compatible one from there, but says every time they tell it to complete the order, it acts like they never had an order being compiled to begin with. If it's a matter of difference in time zone between where they live and Hong Kong, I could see that being an issue (if no one's there to approve sales outside physical business hours), and going off of item comments, it seems like there have been recent orders that have gone through, but I figure it doesn't hurt to double check.

Honestly the only really bad thing about the nintendo switch is the thumbsticks and the size

If it wasn't abundantly apparent that trying to service a switch lite would be fucking obnoxious I'd be all over that shit, shit's just slightly bigger than a vita and doesn't have the caveat of retarded storage

My hands are pretty average, maybe on the smaller side and I think the Switch is the perfect size, just not the perfect weight. Intense matches where I need to play aggressively and quickly (Tetris 99 comes to mind) do wear on my hands due to the weight of the thing, but it's sized very well for my hands otherwise. The Vita I absolutely hated, thing was fucking tiny. 3DS XL was better but a bit too small, the corners would hurt my palms after playing a long while.

I've always found the hand size thing weird. I like the joycons, which should make me a baby-hand, and I also like the Duke, which should make me a fat-handed burger.

>>16754907

And yet all Nintendo consoles can be emulated successfully (albeit with some fuckery for Wii U, and questionable quality for Switch) while the completely generic 360, Xbone, PS3 and PS4 are unemulatable unless the game in question is called Persona 5.

>everyone in the world wandering around with a shitty proprietary closed source undocumented non-UEFI/BIOS faggot device

First line. That's the real problem. If it had UEFI and other standards then suddenly you could be running linux, BSD and others on every phone.

Now every phone needs an individual port. Do you even know how many different ones there are?

You're like: I have a Nexus 7 2013

That one alone has like 3 variants all needing individual roms.

And all of them have some components not working right which is why most people stay on what's shipped with the phone.

Not to mention that you lose warranty which you don't on a PC. It's like you're just renting it.

Phones are shit
