The Switch, PS4, and Xbone Doom releases announced at QuakeCon have a nasty surprise in store for people who actually buy Doom (other than the slow music which looks to be a common problem with console ports, which also seem to have been digitally removed so you have to buy these instead). Doom and Doom II require an initial login to a Bethesda.net account to start playing (can be played offline afterward it's not a big deal guise), and Doom 3 has "certain features and/or content" locked behind it as well. I don't even think the first two have online functionality.

Some fags have disassembled it and it's literally a proper Doom port, software renderer included, in a library that is called from Unity, kinda like RetroArch does with its cores. Unity just provides crossplatform input/output facilities and shit, it's not an actual "recreation in Unity". That ending video is made in Unity entirely, though.
It does actually load proper WADs, they are stored in the doom_disk file, which is literally lifted off the 360 port and changed slightly. You can also replace them and it'll eat that shit up just fine.

Do you have Xbox One? I bought the XBLA version of Doom 1 years ago. It was made backwards compatible on Xbox One, but the game was removed from my ready to install list yesterday. However, when I go to my achievement list on Xbox One and select Doom XBLA I can enter that game's page, scroll over to the welcome tab on the left, and then I can see the store page and can download the game from there. Don't know why I can't access it from my ready to install list, but at least it seems that it hasn't been completely removed from my profile.

If you've jailbroken the Switch at all, there is doubtlessly a Doom source port with more features than the official port and there's not even any point. It's basically a community sport every time a new piece of applicable hardware gets released; who can make Doom run on it? I think this has been a meme ever since Doom was used to sell Windows in a cross promotion.
Consider this for a moment. There is a community of programmers who port Doom to every conceivable device as a hobby. There are digital watches that can play Doom thanks to these autists. You could turn off the incredibly distracting blue/orange glow shader in the first game and just never use the glory kill, which is what I tried to do. The problem is that exploration rarely feels rewarding because most of the secrets are lame collectibles. There was one significant secret where you could find the plasma rifle on level 2, that was about it seemingly. I got bored halfway through the game or so and stopped.
