I know i'm a month late but I just found out about this and I didn't see any threads.
>All existing lawsuits between Stardock and Ford & Reiche are dismissed with prejudice (this simply means the suits cannot be re-litigated).
>All parties are responsible for their own attorney's fees.
>Stardock gets to use the Star Control name for its Star Control Origins game and can develop sequels and DLCs as it likes.
>Ford & Reiche get to continue to develop their own direct Ur-Quan Masters sequel (which was previously called Ghosts of the Precursors but will be renamed).
>The Star Control Origins universe (now known as "the Star Control franchise") will continue in a disconnected bubble from the Ur-Quan >Masters/Ghosts of the Precursors universe (now known as "the Ur-Quan Masters franchise").
>Reiche will contribute some writing to the Origins universe, in a volunteer role.
>All of the complicated arguments about who owns which copyrights and trademarks and who they bought them from and when and what's copyrightable and what's not are mooted. (Which is great because it means I don't have to re-summarize the mountain of IP arguments that both sides were making!)
>The original three Star Control games can continue to be sold on other storefronts, including Stardock's, and Stardock will split revenue from those games' sales with Ford & Reiche.
>No licensing money changed hands.
>Brad Wardell of Stardock must furnish Paul Reiche with a specific amount of honey from Wardell's apiary.
>In turn, Paul Reiche must furnish Brad Wardell with a specific amount of mead brewed from Wardell's bees' honey.
So now "Star Control" is being called the "Ur Quan Masters" Franchise.
Thoughts?

>I (Paul) have a life-long dream of learning every Medieval villager skill. Raising bees has always been on my list, so that I could make mead (wine) from honey. I decided to cut out the middle-man (middle bug?) and just buy honey, but my desire to raise bees remained. So when we called Brad Wardell my first sentence was something like, "Before I start talking about settling our legal conflict, I'd like to talk about bees." The conversation about bees, honey, mead, and bee stings went on for quite a while before we moved on to the talking about the case. Our perspective was this: we don't like fighting, but we love creating, so can we step waaay outside the box and settle our dispute through positive, creative actions rather than continuing to beat each other up? Brad listened and agreed, and this became the basis for settlement. Our lawyers are all smart, professionals with their client's best interest in mind, but it's worth considering that it was only when we communicated directly with each other that we made progress.

>Stardock dropped all its alien name and character trademarks and all parties have dropped their oppositions to each other’s trademarks.
>Both sides recognize each other’s copyrights and will not challenge them in the future.
>We were able to come to a very specific understanding on the alien characters and races — how they look and act. Stardock is dropping all trademark registration of the alien names and won't use the described aliens without permission from Paul & Fred.
>Star Control, Star Control II, and Star Control III will be coming back for sale by Stardock so that fans of all ages can enjoy the classic games in their original form. Paul and Fred will split royalties equally with Stardock.
>Stardock, and Brad in particular, is supportive of Paul and Fred owning the Ur-Quan Masters trademark. All of us are committed to support the current UQM team and project, including their having a free, perpetual right to use the Ur-Quan Masters trademark for their amazing fan-powered recreation of the original game.
>Stardock accepts that Paul & Fred are the creators of Star Control and Star Control II. Both parties agree that many other skilled people also contributed their talent and creativity to help make the games so great.

Why can't all legal disputes end like this? Mead is the drink of champions.

Also, forgot to mention, faggot lawyers were cucked by both parties speaking directly with each other and realizing that they had no quarrel. Truly the most honorable and Norse of outcomes.

>Thoughts?
Last thread convinced me to play Star Control 2, and it's actually shit.
It is really good at making you think it is a good game, but then you figure out that EVERYTHING you did until now is a massive waste of time and the few ways to win the game are totally disconnected to the gameplay.
You think you need to build allies and an armada to defeat the bad guys, but turns out you actually have to do Chain-Bring-Me-McGuffin quests. Why should I expect anything more from anything coming out of the franchise?
I give in that the writting is amazing and that the characters are great, but if I wanted just this, I would have read a book

Perhaps the same could be said of all imageboard conversations. This really is the best case scenario though, SCO is a fun game but the writing doesn't hold up to 2. The two parties working together could really make something amazing.

This is great, one less excuse for the lack of info on the ur-quan masters game that has been in development all this time.
The ur-quan masters game wasn't kickstarter bait, was it? It sure would be funny if that game turned out to be kickstarter bait.

dev A got mad and tried to shut down dev B because petty fucker. Dev B got mad in turn

One issue is that the game is a visual novel, not a Single Unity RTS or whatever the hell it looks like
>you have to actually do shit
The bigger issue is that you don't have to do shit like they sell you have to.
The narrative states you have make allies and grow stronger
The game have you collect 3-5 MacGuffins and be done with it
Alliances with the other species is 100% useless. I think the zen interdimensional dude is the only one you actually need, from memory, and alliance with him is automatic
