I dunno, the instruments sound too stiff, that theme is a bit better, but you can still notice a lot of the trumpets and the synth are just dumped with little rhyme or reason, even if it was meant to feel like improv, it's just not that good.

here's a counter example, drifting away from wario ware also has clashing instruments and improv like stuff but it sounds much better.

Don't get me wrong, there are some good soundtracks in their and it's memorable, but the vast majority of it is pretty bad.

KoF 2002. There's like 2 tracks tops that aren't terrible remakes of stuff that sounded better in decade older games.

I think it might be more with the frequency at which songs play. I intensely dislike Lon Lon Ranch, the overworld theme, Hyrule Town, Kakariko Village, Kokiri Forest, Shooting Gallery, and I'm sure some other things. Windmill, Shiek's Theme, Fairy Fountain, Gerudo Valley, and a lot of the warping songs are all pretty good, are about the only things I like from it.

I don't think N64 midis are anywhere close to improv. I think it's just action music that plays as your Gyarados fucks up a Rhydon while the announcer yells "RISE AND SURF! IT'S A ONE-HIT WONDER!"

All the tracks in Arcanum and Morrowind are great, but they both have too few for the size of the game.
