293f92 No.16708872
"CSK&D has filed a class action lawsuit against Nintendo of America, Inc. (“Nintendo”) for claims relating to alleged defects in the Joy-Con controllers that are part of Nintendo Switch gaming consoles. The complaint, filed in the United States District Court for the Western District of Washington, alleges that the joysticks on Joy-Con controllers are defective, leading users to experience drift issues. Specifically, the complaint alleges that the joystick on the Joy-Con controllers will automatically register movement when the joystick is not being controlled by the user and interfere with gameplay. The complaint, filed on behalf of purchasers of Switches and Joy-Con controllers, brings claims under various consumer protection statutes as well as various warranty and common law claims."

If you bought an "elite" controller, that doesn't even have an accelerometer, and the only thing "elite" about it was having two stage triggers, and grips.

That's a lot worse but also far fewer (and much dumber, who the fuck buys that?) people had to deal with it, I would assume. Every joycon has the issue or will have it eventually, it's caused by the graphite-like substance used to read the position of the joystick rubbing off.

So what, Nintendo has a juicy manufacturing agreement with some chink company, so they will hand out consoles and replacements to maintain said cheap business relationship; and if it goes to courts it means that joystick quality becomes a legal issue that can be brought up again in the future?
29df0d No.16711014
The best thing that happens out of this is The Joycons are redesigned and it already actually looks like it, Switch Lite has a different shape to the base of the joycons which is the primary issue, the contact pad wears out because dust is allowed in and acts as an abrasive, wearing down the pad
but most ((( LEGAL EXPERTS ))) are saying this Class action most likely won't do anything because of the Warranty period is within business Standards. Honestly though, I've already replaced 3 joycon joysticks for a grand total of 8 bucks, it's surprisingly easy to replace.
Where the fuck was this class action shit when the N64 came out, None of my N64 controllers work anymore, they Joystick just leans in one direction now

I've had this happen with every left joycon. Spraying contact cleaner up under the little condom that protects the inside of the analog stick fixes it, but I imagine eventually it won't work anymore and the only solution will be to grab broken joycons for parts off ebay since they don't sell replacement analog sticks on the Nintendo store.

I'll never understand why these "tamper proof" screws are a thing. If it's for commercial use then it's just a dick move to get customers to rely on shitty brand name repair shops instead of fixing the shit themselves, and if it's like government/military hardware I imagine no one would have an issue breaking around the screws, unless it's somehow boobytrapped or something.

So half the gaming controllers I've ever had have the "drift" issue. It's inherent to to less robust joysticks. There's a really easy software level solution to this (that some games already implement, just try your whole library, some games will have drift, other won't), and it's to increase the joystick dead zone. I do this for almost every controller I use on PC.
People are just excited for an opportunity to shit on Nintendo. Business as usual.

That isn't a drift issue, but a calibration issue instead. The 'neutral' position is assumed to be the one that the stick is in when the controller is powered on, in case of a PS2 controller this is when you turn on the system or replug the controller.
If your controller has some age, some 'wobble' in the neutral position (or you simply held the stick in some direction) when plugging it in, then it'll be miscalibrated.
The joycon on the other hand uses an unusual method of detecting motion through resistance on a pair of strips (one for each axis), and these strips wear out. So it's not a problem with the stick itself, but the flat board where said stick makes contact with.
>>16715066
Dead zone adjustment alone won't save you from a heavily worn contact strip that makes fake readings.
