Yeah, there are still puzzle maps and adventure maps and such.

They are not as ambitious as some older maps.

In those days a big youtuber or so in so could pay map builders big money to build a fancy solo/co-op maps, like herobrine’s mansion for example.

These days the only people who have that kind of money are sever owners, who pay professional builders to build maps for their servers.

There are still some interesting community projects still going. For example there are multiple ongoing projects for middle earth maps.

You just need to look a little bit and you’ll find plenty of maps OP.

Yeah dude, they added a whole new gamemode to the game to facilitate custom maps.

survival maps are probably impossible now, after they fucked with terrain gen so much, you'll never get another seed for island survival for example

adventure and puzzle maps exist and that's all there is, with some impressive things being doable with command blocks

I doubt there's really anything inspiring left now though.

anyone have any recommendations, preferably for survival/exploration maps? Any version is fine. I missed out on the minecraft craze.

A mod exist where one can copy a map from a server.

The mod copies all things you saw, when installed all you have to do is go on a server and travle a little bit.

This way i got my very own Game of Thrones map, the server died later and the map was gone but i still have it.

Because it's blocks precisely. It means each block that occupies space is data that needs to be saved. It's really not much per blocks, but there are so many blocks it adds up quickly.

Minecraft needs to know and/or render what's under the ground because there is always something (unless it's empty space) whereas in other games there is simply nothing to save there.
