I'd pirated Sekiro but the thing ran at a silky smooth 4 fps, it took me 5 minutes to actually load into the game and another 5 minutes attempting to access the slideshow menu before giving up and alt-tabbing.

RoR2 I should have picked it up when it was just released and one buy gets you two copies but my brother's a faggot and I didn't want to play it solo which is why I didn't want to pirate.

Bloodstained kind of barely has enough enemy variety to carry the game and the visuals are very questionable in places, but it's okay too. You can get a tattoo removal mod for miriam to make her more waifuable. switch owners hate it so it's good

Ion Maiden should be releasing in 1-2 weeks if they don't announce a fucking delay on the 11th. However, it is going to be renamed so that the developers can avoid being sued by the band, Iron Maiden. not sure what to yet.

Speaking of heavy metal, valfaris looks fucking gay. I don't get it. Am I supposed to buy your game just because it's "heavy metal infused"? I listen to the shit every day and I don't even know what that means. The soundtrack has an electric guitar in the mix somewhere, I guess. Wow. Landing on your ass while your back is perfectly straight can damage your spine. In fact if the height is high enough it will break it and cause it to snap easily.

Thanks man. I've not had the motivation to play anything with depth recently I started Resident Evil Code Veronica over a month ago and am still just at the beginning of the police station. I've been playing a lot of Splatoon and Mario Maker 2 though. Occasionally RO2.

I've played most games in these lists. The 2016 list is far from perfect but passable. But 2017 and 2018 are really terrible, 70% and 90% trash respectively.

Besides Poi, Styx 2 and maybe Giga Breaker/Vaporum/the vr titles I don't remember much of the 2017 being particularly bad. Steamworld Dig 2 was a blast, Bleed 2 was good, Darkwood was great, Hand of Fate 2 was good up until Death where it relies too much on luck, Heat Sig was great, Nex Machina was A+, Fight N' Rage was nice and Speebot remains my motivation for getting into /agdg/.

What I played from the 2018 list was so-so. The Messenger is good but it gets bad near the midpoint when it turns into a half baked metroidvania. Overload, Copy Kitty and La Mulana 2 are excellent and are my GoTY contenders. Kingdom Come was good but I can see why anyone wouldn't like it. Doorkickers Action Squad is mediocre and I wish they made another tactics game instead. Crosscode is basically incomplete. I enjoyed Nitronic Rush over Distance, Dusk is okay but I'd rather play a wad and Super Daryl Deluxe was very fun but needed more side content and a new game+, preferably one where you get to play Daryl in his Super Deluxe mode forever. Comet Striker was neat too.

I am curious about Frozen Synapse 2 though. I liked the first but the singleplayer relied a bit too much on luck for my taste.

About a few you mentioned: Fight'n Rage in particular is terrible, there are better freeware beat'em-ups on the fuckin' Beats of Rage engine. I'd rather play one of the hundreds of classic beat'em-ups on Mame.

The Messenger is also terrible, especially the attempts at humor and the soundtrack which is pure ear rape. Usually I don't mind games with bad soundtracks and mostly just ignore them since I concentrate more on visuals and gameplay, but The Messenger is one of these few games where the soundtrack is so bad that it distracted me.

I'd like to disagree on the Messenger's soundtrack but looking back there's only like three tracks I actually like, and not even their 16 bit counterparts. I do think it played really good up until you get past The Cloud Ruins because there just isn't much that's interesting in revisiting these levels in a non linear fashion.

I also disagree on Tokyo Xanadu being a decent game. I don't know what happened to Falcom but ever since like the first Cold Steel they seem to have fizzled out and their games don't play as good anymore.

I recommend you try out Copy Kitty. It's pretty fun and packed with lots of content too.

Despite some awful titles, this year has some pretty gud games.

- Sekiro: Shadow Die Twice.

- Steel Division 2.

I actually put together a 2700X/RX580 build, I just wanted to wait a bit more until the new AMD shit. If they were too much of an upgrade to these parts, then I'd wait another year. If not, then at least these parts would be cheaper when I'd get them.

Is there a better, relatively cheap card than the 580? I feel like it's going to bottleneck with the 2700X and I'd really like to hold off on another upgrade for another half a decade or more.

The problem with The Messenger soundtrack is that it sounds like the composer(s) took inspiration from the NES Ninja Gaiden soundtracks, but without any understanding of what actually made them good and probably didn't have much experience with chiptune composition. Makes me think that it was probably made by a zoomer who wasn't even alive back in the day of the originals.

I'm not a Falcom RPG enthusiast and haven't even tried most of them, so I'm not comparing it to others, but I found it a lot more compelling and engaging than other Falcom titles I've tried. Probably in part because I'm very partial to contemporary urban Japan horror/monster settings, enjoying them much more than medieval high fantasy settings which is most Falcom rpgs.

Thanks for the recommendation anon. I just tried it yesterday, and it's actually pretty good! Very tight controls, innovative gameplay, pretty good soundtrack and a pretty lovable setting and protagonist. I started playing and couldn't stop until the third world. Another good one for 2018 I guess.
