I'll spoonfeed because why not. Some time before the beginning of 8ch, the same problem occurred with inside jokes being misinterpreted including the term "normalfag". I would post the old screenshot that described the word, but all of my old shit got nuked when my PC broke.
From what I remember, normalfags weren't necessarily normal plebians you see walking around watching capeshit movies; but rather ones who are spazing around 4chan and other 'nerdy' sites saying how gay it is to be invested in a hobby and showing off how socially acceptable they are in desperate ways. They are essentially 'that kid' in high school who flocks around chads and wants their approval. Often they aren't popular like chad because he has a mental disorder, mostly ADD/ADHD; so he will often mock anyone who he considers to be below him, to make himself look good to everyone around him as well as grabbing chad's attention. But like how a mediocre girl stands to a fat chick, this method eventually fails because the scapegoats will eventually move on with life along with the cool kids he wanted to be with, and all he has left is the internet where he can be with other failed NEETs in denial.
Eventually normalfags have completely overtaken the internet, including cuckchan, being nostalgic over Babby's first shooters like Halo. I term I use now a days to describe these people is "failed normalfags", I think this hurts/exposes them the most.
Also take my word with a grain of salt. I visted 4chan on 2004, but only understood/became a regular around 2009-2010 and still my memory is foggy.

That's a failed normalfag, someone who desperately tried to be a normalfag, to be at least mildly popular, and to be part of the group, but couldn't, due to being "too weird" or ugly or whatever.
