You should have put a door to the beginning at the end in case you get there without a cape, would save some time and frustration. Please free me from this hell. I don't understand why these levels are so popular and numerous. They're so repetitive, and they make what otherwise is a fun momentum and jumping based game a tedious exercise in pressing the exact right input at the exact right time and causing any fun in playing the game yourself to be effectively removed.

>Has breaks in the action between challenges, extra challenges for expert players, and bonuses sprinkled in

Precisely jumping between single block platforms like in your level isn't fun once you do it a couple times, but I'm glad you realized that. Luckily, your level will get sorted into expert in endless mode so at least people will know what they're signing up for, which makes that mode much better than in MM1 (though I miss ending in castles. I think they should have a mode where you play 3 levels and then a castle and see how many "worlds" you can beat).

>Which is the fault of the game how?

The fact that it's barely a game. It's based on user creation, the current year users are shit, thus the "game" suffers. Same reason Little Big Planet no longer exists.

>controls fine

Then play one of the many released games with them. The controls are whatever for current year. But they aren't objectively better or more interesting than SMW's. Unless you want to go in deep detail as to why you're wrong.

Emulating on the Switch requires a semi decent rig. Meanwhile I could emulate SMW on a fucking laptop of all things.

Be a mad as bitch, I don't care. As far as I can tell the only reason you would actually purchase this nonsense is if you were somehow out of material for the romhack community. Which is pretty fucking unbelievable since they have content as far back as the 90's.

I miss the power up utility in SMB3 varied powerups. Sure not all suits are winners because Frog suit exists. That said I do like how each suit can be used in different scenarios. Hammer suit has short range but kills like a shell and ducking blocks fireballs. Fire bounces along the floor but doesn't kill everything. Tanuki suit has a statue morph move with B+down. I was hoping for at least a new power up category. Super Ball flower replaces the amiibo costumes in SMB style. Still would be nice to have Frog suit in SMB3 style and Penguin suit in NSMBu. For 3D world they can take the Boomerang suit from 3D land and make that a category. I also considered making alt versions of power ups like Fire/Ice Flower (NSMBu only), Super Leaf/Tanuki suit, and Propellershroom/Super Acorn in the same slots. The multiple slots for same form of items can also work with Yoshi eggs as well. Blue/Yellow Yoshi for SMW and Balloon/Bubble Yoshi for NSMBu.

For score attack dragon coins would be useful because every consecutive coin you collect you get an added 2000 points until 10,000 which is a 1up. I understand big coins are meant to replace dragon coins. However mechanically the two act very differently. Also I wish there was a way to make red coin rings too. Red coins are used to hide keys. Still would also like to hide power-ups with collecting all red coins in a time limit. Slopes and Boom Boom is nice. However I think there is a lot of games objects being held back on purpose. Either because they rushed the engine for Mario Maker 2 using the same tech as MM1 fundamentally or because newer game changing objects are going to be withheld by the DLC wall, free or paywalled. The original Mario Maker had free DLC. With a focus on online play I'm expecting this application to be GaaS with free content at least.

The big feature that would have been too much to ask from current year Nintendo is a movable tile layer like the yellow later in SMW's or the rotating platforms in NSMB. As for why goal orbs and alt key exits can't be easily programmed into the game is beyond me. Probably for online metadata reasons.

I still like this game better than MM1 overall. I have shit taste. There's still a certain meta of restrictions that irk me with level creation that keep me from making levels I want with this. I want on land frog suit races.

>yeah it is.

Again, not an argument. I get more content that's objectively better for less money.

>That doesn't answer the question of how the game itself is to blame for badly designed levels

It answers it point blank actually. The only people designing the levels are the people who can't design levels due to how easy it is. More content means more smog of shit. And the search methods are less reliable than youtube. So you're guaranteed to be looking for good levels longer than actually playing the fucking game.

>You haven't explained what's wrong with their controls

Honestly? Not a ton, but 3D has had more exact copies of its system than any other 2D game. We've had over 3 games to experience these controls. Whatever hankering you have for this shit should have ended by 3D world. Meanwhile the 2D games have more to offer and are more accessible to modifying.

>What part of no switch required didn't you understand shithead?

The part that knows Switch Emulation is currently a fucking joke nigger.

>Nevermind that mm1 and 2 aren't very taxing games to emulate.

For people with an i5 or lower I disagree. Yet I can run SMW romhacks easy as shit on them. Objectively I have more content for less money here considering emulation possibilities. >Again, not an argument

it's a lot more featured, which matters a lot in a level editor. custom sprites are nice, but no match for more platforming and gameplay options.

>It answers it point blank actually

It answers nothing. Lunar magic isn't any harder to use, any retard can make levels in that. Bad user content isn't the fault of level editors any more than photoshop is to blame for shitty deviantart drawings. You aren't limited by nintendo's search algorithms. What do you think this thread is for. Or youtube, twitch, whatever. Maybe make your own community. Or play your own levels.

>The part that knows Switch Emulation is currently a fucking joke nigger.

It's improving all the time. Super Mario Odyssey is fully emulated now, and MM2 runs without issue. Cemu can run MM1 perfectly.

>For people with an i5 or lower I disagree. Yet I can run SMW romhacks easy as shit on them. Objectively I have more content for less money here considering emulation possibilities. And again, don't act like the majority of this fucking thread isn't running this content on a Switch.

The option is still there. You don't have it, I do. I can play SMW romhacks in addition to MM levels. I have even more content than you do, objectively.

Here's everything I made so far, I mostly just tried to remake other game's stages in the maker but with personal liberties thrown in. I still think they stand well on their own mostly. Could be better but not the worst either.

KTH-VNX-F7G: Recreation of Elecman's stage from MM1 but run out of vertical space at some point and take a bunch of personal liberties

5K8-F32-9JG: Seems to be my most liked stage so far

5C7-NX9-SRF: Slight recreation/heavily inspired from Wario Land 4's 40 below fridge stage, but I couldn't think of what to do for the snowball parts and take a bunch of liberties

4L3-BH3-GVF: Desert puzzle stage with lots of pipe and door redirects

274-9CP-CHG: One of those car stages but the car is mostly just to deal damage and not for racing/going fast, my enemy placement is fucky and maybe even a little excessive but I dont think its too cruel(would've done checkpoints but dont think that translates well with stage requirements)

>the gotcha bullshit in the second part

are you talking about the kaizo blocks? You do realize there are visual indicators denoting the locations of the invisible blocks if you are paying attention and aside form the one one the first map that is clearly indicated with track there are only these three locations? I labeled the level "Kaizo" for a reason and it's not because the whole level is "hard as balls". Its because the level requires shell jumping, spin jumping off enemies and invisible blocks. People who play "Kaizo" start to get a sense for where invisible blocks are placed in a map (provided its not a full on troll level) and the first one by the Banzai bill I indicate clearly so the player knows they exist. Trial an error isn't always bad and not unexpected in a Kaizo design, that's why there are checkpoints right before the "gotchas" to make it easy to get back into the action without down time. You realize I had to get through the whole map without checkpoints just to upload it? That is why there are red coins to reward players who clear the map without needing the checkpoint.

Its not like I included a dev-door and its not like the whole level was designed around one unwieldy gimmick. Navigating a cape through a room full of spikes by exploiting invincibility frames isn't really what I would consider top tier "fair" design and having to redo the easier first half just to try to get through the second corridor of spikes without losing your cape its not really what I consider fun especially because both are jenk and hard to pull off consistently.

But, cut me some slack. "Novic Kaizo World" was literally my second level. I never played Mario Maker 1, so I got alot to learn about designing hard but fair levels. One the one hand, the level is almost far to easy to be labeled Kaizo, but on the other hand it's way to hard for casuals so it sits in limbo because salty 12 year olds boo anything that they can't one shot clear.

I personally think Fire & Ice is much better in terms of flow and my next level that requires a series of mini challenges should be even more forgiving for the player because they will get a checkpoint saving the red coin progress after each challenge and there is no way to key death unless you go out of your way. I'm just having a hard time uploading it because the way the checkpoint system is designed means I have to clear the whole stage three times without a checkpoint considering the exit is locked by 4 red coins.

>Several years of effort dictates otherwise

What?

>>there's less platforming in SMW, a platformer game

>To retarded to even try and understand what the fuck you're trying to say here

More options, as in platform objects, powerups, enemies, gameplay styles etc. than the barebones lunar magic, you dimwit, unless you're a programmer and can code custom logic.

>Bad example. Photoshop has multiple extensions made by people. As does Gimp and several other options for image manipulation software.

What the fuck does that have to do with what I said? I said MM, like Photoshop, or any creation software, merely give you tools to play with, it can't guarantee that the people using them will be skilled or creative enough to make good use of them or produce quality content, that doesn't make Photoshop any less of a powerful graphic editor or MM a lesser level creator than romhacking shit.

>With MM you are locked into a finite amount of options. Romhacking has no such ceiling.

Provided you can code. You might as well be telling people to program their own games or use a game engine. Easier and far less limited than romhacking. Nothing stops anyone from modding MM, either.

>Romhacking has no such ceiling

The snes' meager cpu and ppu aren't ceilings?

>It's a lesser option.

Whatever you say retard. I was only pointing out how you can play Mario Maker without giving a single cent to nintendo, as you were trying to claim.

>And naturally you would start with the better alternative. Rather the one with more cost and less good content.

>What?

>he forgot the romhack community has been around before MM

>as in platform objects, powerups, enemies, gameplay styles

I don't see how romhacks are the lesser in this department considering you can develop these.

>unless you're a programmer and can code custom logic

So basically what kids can't do and more competent devs typically will do. Got it.

>merely give you tools to play with

A limited set of tools. Photoshop is not limited as many 3rd parties add to them. Much of them almost necessary for many tasks.

>that doesn't make Photoshop any less of a powerful graphic editor or MM a lesser level creator than romhacking shit

It does when 98% of the community using it IS shit. Learning basic photoshop isn't hard, especially when you edit images. But making an image from scrap is what the majority of people can't do. Wasting your time looking for good maps for 15 minutes of enjoyment is less enjoyable than playing a new game with less than 5 minutes of effort.

>Provided you can code.

Are you questioning the autism of SMW fans?

>You might as well be telling people to program their own games or use a game engine

Not really no. Having a community familiar with 1 code base is different than telling a group of strangers to learn how to code anything.

>Easier and far less limited than romhacking

Far MORE limited*

> Nothing stops anyone from modding MM, either

Except when the people pirating the game on the emulator is in a much smaller minority than people modding a game that a toaster can emulate that has translations for nearly ever country on the planet. Not that SMW really needs much translating.

>The snes' meager cpu and ppu aren't ceilings?

And the Switch isn't? On top of this you just fucking stated that emulation is the only way to go. SMW just happens to start at a sub level for CPU. Making it more accessible.

>I was only pointing out how you can play Mario Maker without giving a single cent to Nintendo

And I've already stated it's not necessary to play the game at all when you already have a superior option.

>I can start with both because I'm not limited by my PC, is the point you mong

Sure, the latter release is just more shit. Which has been my point. I would start with the gold standard and move on to the worse choice after I've exhausted what's there. Which will take a long fucking time tbh.

Man, fuck that. I wanted to make a full game in each style, with three levels and a castle in every world and eight or nine worlds per game. This would only allow for one 8-world game, so no 9th tubular bonus world.

Would I be able to theoretically upload infinitely if I played the game as different switch users, or is it linked to one online account?

You are comparing SMM after they patched it with new content to SMM2 before they inevitably add more content. If you compared day one SMM to day one SMM2 the leap in quality is much more significant.

WHY THE FUCK IS THERE STILL NO GRAB BRICKS YET!?

Grab bricks are just re-colors of normal bricks except you can grab and throw them like shells. I understand why they'd be fairly useless in SMB style. Still, boggles the bones why no grab bricks for SMB3, SMW, and NSMBu styles yet.

Don't use them on the Red Koopas during the scroll section, I designed it to take advantage of the super jump.

i dont understand why people want to play levels where there isn't room for even 2 pixels of error anywhere in the whole level. you just make these frame perfect jumps onto tiny ledges without stopping or you die. i mean it's not even a video game at that point. the level of interaction is about as much as playing connect the dots.

can someone explain how that is supposed to be fun? you're just doing exactly what the dev wants you to do and none of your movements are unique.

Be careful about reuploads. Nintendo may prevent you from uploading courses in the future as they can deem too many re-uploads of the same course as changing meta-data, which is against ToS. If you can, try to spend more time play-testing to catch these possibilities.

I don't really understand maker points as much as medals. On one hand they aren't necessary to posting more courses. On the other hand if your score is too low then I predict you will get shadowbanned by the system if you shitpost too many bad levels. My problem is the lack of boo's to give feedback. A boo'd level clearly degrades your score. And most casual shitters will boo levels that are too hard for them rather than judge them by how fair the difficulty is.

I can't Kaizo anymore because I'm aging with bad health. However I see the appeal of your levels from a design aspect. You don't try to blind kill the player intentionally with troll shit intentionally.

As for me: Most of my favorite levels to make tend to be exploratory ones with multiple paths leading to different times, bonuses, and score results. I understand why no one wants bonuses because of 1ups are useless outside of Endless Mario. Still I try to make levels fun to download and replay mostly for casual. Though it's fun to see speedrunners break levels too. I try to leave intentional speed running tricks I can find in my levels just in case. I don't get mad if someone finds a new clever way to beat the level. Though if a level is hard then I try not to make unintentional cheeseploits.

That said I know the popularity meta. In game search engine is shit. So it's Twitch and YouTube that makes levels popular. If I want to make popular levels then I make levels for the e-celebs to play because nobody watches Mario Maker videos for the levels. If I made levels for e-celebs to entertain others then they wouldn't be fun levels to play yourself. So I rather make fun levels I enjoy than be popular. Luckily I have some Mario Maker 1 experience. And slopes fill a huge hole MM didn't have. Now comes testing limits of creativity.

I made this shitty skipsqueak level just to test how casual the audience is. All you do is jump and win. Maybe kawaii at the squeaks at the end. That's it.

>make levels for the e-celebs to play

I mainly shill them to e-celebrities because none of my friends play video games so if I want someone competent to play test it then my best best is the twitch streamers.

I want to break out of my comfort zone and try something different while I have insomnia. Should I make a power up themed stage or a horror themed night ghost house?

I'll keep the idea on back-burner because e-celebs are playing Resident Evil levels. I have a few ideas for one, but at the moment I can't make anything fun work the way I want. This will be one of my work off and on course. There's no rush to complete it. When the elements come together they'll come together. Lots of trial and error with mechanics in the dark, timing, and sound effects.

So to upload a level and download someone else's you still need to pay for online!?

That's fucking shit, even the kikes at Sony would let people upload and download LBP levels without the need to be subscribed on PS+.

There's no exscuse for this shit.

I guess most of MM2 players are soy guzzling shitters who can't play games.

That's how it was with Mario Maker 1, at least around release. All of the top levels were those shitty auto marios

I'm addicted to vs right now. Almost at A rank, apparently it's less laggy in the higher ranks.

Shit. I haven't touched Mario Maker 2 since summer. Are there any meaningful updates to this game besides playing locally with friends online?
