>What's a fun playthrough to do in the mod?
I like playing Neferata. You start in some mountainous shithole surrounded by goblins and dwarves who both absolutely hate you, with dwarves (unless the new version fixes it) essentially having cheats on – not only do their castles take absolutely ridiculous amounts of time to siege down, they also get what amounts to infinite troops, since they can convert prestige (which they have assloads of due to living for centuries) into 3k stacks over and over again. They also have a chance of forming a dwarven ethnostate through an event, at which point you're looking at pretty much every dorf in the world coming to fuck your shit. Pretty fun.
You also get to do all the fun vampire shit like turning your rival's daughter into a vampire loli or sending whorepires into the Empire to earn you gold by being prostitutes (not even fucking joking).

>"The real ecological disaster was the Turkish pastoralists bringing millions of goats to Anatolia. Goats, like sheep, eat the grass down to it's crown and root-base, denuding the land and turning verdant fields into desert. The only reason sheep haven't been able to do this to the British Isles is due to the high rainfall levels, which replenish the grass more quickly. Still, the enclosure movement has drastically altered the ecology of the Scottish Highlands in a way that may be irreversible."

Uhh what did people keep as livestock before then? Fairly certain goats and sheep were pretty universal throughout the world at all times in history. I can't imagine the hellenic farmer being rich enough to keep cattle.

Pastoralists deal with caprine and ovine livestock on a far larger scale than farmers. They travel around huge swathes of land in search for grazing areas (since they have no set residence), hence they deplete grasslands on a larger scales; a hellenic farmer would've had a couple grazing areas for several seasons, t*rks probably depleted land till it eroded and moved onto another area.
Speaking of which, a similar thing happened in medieval Georgia which funnily enough triggered the events which led to the battle of Didgori: t*rks from the seljuq empire, apart from raping and raiding, would illegally use grasslands and farmlands from the Kingdom of Georgia as grazing lands for their livestock, causing a HUGE discomfort among the settled, legal population of the country.
Bottomline is: t*rks were, are and will be subhumans who never adapted to the modern standards of any era.

No talk of how Stonewall (IIRC) had a pedo ring to its hookup culture, so it's clear where they're leaning. One of the demo nations even has an event chain about legalizing it in their war torn Russian backwater because abloo bloo two refugees are gay and sad.
Though bizarrely, the devs went out of their way to make sodomite rights a terrible idea, as it gives substantial penalties that only recede with time. Meanwhile, there's 0 penalties to keeping it illegal forever. Similarly, their economy guy made a big stink about how much he loves Keynesian economics, only for the various tax laws to be an Austrian dream.
Though the real kicker is commies getting butthurt because the devs somehow aren't anti-nazi enough for their tastes. One example was accusations of 'humanizing' Rosenberg in game for, uh, having the exact same racial theories he did in reality (he considered Slavs Aryan). The devs are experiencing the 'anything other than complete submission isn't good enough' problem in real time; I'd almost feel bad if they hadn't brought it on themselves.

>In the 50s, Germany suffers a massive economic crash.
Fucking how? They won the war, they control some of the richest and most potent countries on the globe and have access to their colonial empires. They didn't even get savaged by the Russians in the East. Even with communism literally rotting the country from within after a catastrophic war it took the USSR nearly 50 years to implode.
Was the German leadership paving highways with gold or something?
>Germany is increasingly unstable, with a young generation beginning to protest against the failures of Germany.
Yeah, not like it was the German youth that was most ardent in their support of the new regime that then went on to win the war. These fuckwits seem to not understand student protests in the USSR were against Russian rule, not Russians themselves protesting against the regime.
>it was an actual proposal to expand European land and increase the control European nations could exercise over their African colonies. Of course, in reality, everyone realized that the project was insane and it never left the drawing board, whereas in The New Order, the Nazis are actually insane enough to do it
The project was insane but the Germans actually did it, the madmen! If it's feasible and successful how is it insane?

What is it with these faggots and having Germans bomb everything in sight? If they wanted to fuck with Africa all they would need to do is move troops in and chase the niggers out. Also, they seem to genuinely think niggers could build anything more complex than a mudhut without whitey.

Drying up the Mediterranean, building killsats and other assorted superscience projects, daily bombing of Africa and Russia for decades… Basically, they assume that after the war Germany does all the stupid or hypothetical shit they could. Economy also crashes because of all the slave labour; later on the page is says that many Germans became NEETs because of that.
>If it's feasible and successful how is it insane?
Anon, the mod's premise is explicitly "everything about Germany works, until the mod starts, then rules suddenly change and many previously viable things become traps". Great writing, isn't it?
>What did he do that would paint him as evil other than being an actually good administrator?
Was a Nazi, it seems.
>Wait, why is Goering the warmonger here?
Because Göring thinks that Germany was at its best during the war, so the way to get out of the crisis is to wage more wars. Btw, the only reason Speer is sympathetic is because now he is a lefty who thinks National Socialism has failed.

Why do you pretend this is a revelation? And it's besides the point. There is literally no way to interpret the government system of Sparta as a democracy of any model. They didn't consider it one (their mythical founder and law maker supposedly openly mocked the idea), the Greek democracies didn't consider it one, and nobody familiar with it would consider it one today.

And by that you mean act like typical fanfic writers and bash characters they don't like. What's the point of the mod if you take the core premise and then "subvert" it? And by subvert they seem to mean insert as many dumb and railroaded ways to fuck over players that want to have fun, and punish them for playing historically accurate Nazis instead of mustache-twirling caricatures of them or some leftists fanwank.
>Great writing, isn't it?
I'm just going back to playing Fatherland, at least there Germany doesn't act completely retarded. Everything about the mod is fucking stupid, but especially anarchists and commies coming out of the woodwork to start a civil war in Germany. Not only would they lack the USSR supplying them with money and instructors to form an effective resistance, but the German state isn't a democracy forced to respect their human rights, anything beyond basement dwelling NEETs trading Das Kapital copies with their boyfriends would land you in jail, or worse.

So, Nazis are not only building completely unrealistic superweapons (fucking why? They have nukes), but ones they know full well don't work. Goering was not a stupid man, in fact, he was quite smart.
Also, apparently Himmler wants to nuke the planet and everyone on it because he's a LARPer.
>Heydrich can issue a "One Child Policy", which allows every German family to raise their first for themselves, with all subsequent ones being considered party property to be sent to work in the military or industry when they grow up.
This coming from the puppet of the man that was advocating polygny in the Reich so German population could explode in numbers.
>The German Civil War affords Himmler the chance to raid German nuclear stockpiles, assisted by Heydrich. Should Heydrich actually win the war, he will continue to deliver German nukes to SS Burgund, making them a major nuclear power and greatly advancing Himmler's ambitions.
Himmler is basically Doctor Doom.

A common propaganda point against Germany is that its economy was unsustainable either due to depending on militarization or on pilfering other countries. These are both factually incorrect (Germany was late to militarize and its economic recovery took place well before the war started) and are largely a case of Jewish projection (the (((USA))) actually relied on militarization to get out of the Great Depression and the (((USSR))) actually relied on pilfering German factories to keep their economy going after the war once the USA wasn't propping it up anymore) but that doesn't stop low-functioning automata "people" on the left from echoing the idea.

And they won the fucking war. They could basically order the rest of Europe to pay war reparations. There's also the simple fact most of Western Europe is basically untouched, as is the German industrial base.
Their only justification for the economic collapse is Germans draining the Mediterranean and launching a giant mirror in space. Somehow Nazi leaders like Goering (rather laid back and not enamored with waging war) and Himmler (talented administrator with an interest in the occult and Germany's pagan past) go full retard on theoretical projects, the later becoming a super-villain.

There's an in-game conspiracy theory that the Swiss (((bankers))) deliberately undermined the German economy in the post-war years.
It's discovered to be completely true in IIRC Bormann and Goering's paths
As for Goering being a warmonger, the devs actually had to backpedal and clarify that he's being kept in a gilded cage by Schorner/other hardline militarists, and has very little control over Germany if he wins.
Then Bormann got rewritten from 'blithering idiot who dooms Germany to stagnancy and collapse' to 'Brilliant but oxheaded/reform-averse and can handily win the Cold War if he plays the right cards'.
The 'Burgundian System' types (Heydrich, Josias, Himmler, etc.) are still goofy supervillains and the devs are exactly what you'd expect (Lead dev for Iberia is a gay anarchist, but I repeat myself), but they've dialed back the permeating aura of stupidity somewhat. Why do so many of these types flock to HOI4 nodding, anyway?

The campaign AI in Medieval 2 is horrid, even with mods; allies will betray you in a heartbeat, keeping up reputation is almost impossible, etc. It's still easily winnable as long as you're good at fighting battles, but the AI's alliance systems are crap.

Yeah, get a pirate of WaWa2 with all the dlc and such so you can play the mortal empires campaign (that's the one that combines the campaign maps) but be prepared; it's not very well optimized and you'll have to suffer through some long loading times and end turns though that's a little unavoidable since it's two game's worth of factions that the game has to go through
>attila
I couldn't get in to it, I'll play it again when the campaign mode for the medieval mod is complete but the vanilla campaign mode annoyed me since managing public order in the mod was like trying to run a country where every city is detroit and the Hun's and their immortality bullshit can go fuck themselves

BAI's not shit by any means, it's got some good features I could totally plagiarize like rebel funding, stormtroopers and uboats, it's just that it doesn't add nearly enough for my tastes, I want to emulate history as plausibly as the game allows me, and if it means I gotta add some obscure country/culture/province in the middle of nowhere, then I'm gonna do it, simply because I find it fascinating.
Also I don't care if anyone plays with my mod or not, I'm not here to sell a product or anything, I'm not earning money for this hobby and I sure as hell don't care about popularity, else I wouldn't be using the name 'Anon' for all my mods instead of what I usually go on about the net ensuing on an internet popularity contest with the other modders over who's earning more shekels on patreon. I simply chose to share the stuff I'm making because I know there's people out here on /v/ with similar tastes/autism as me; I could've kept the stuff I make for myself but I chose to share them instead, like weebs did in the 90's with their nonprofit fansub VHS tapes. I want to keep that spirit alive.

I appreciate your map edits and making the damn thing be more than just “oh look all the divisions are identical to OTL so that someone who wants to make a modern day mod has zero work to do ha ha what is accuracy,” but the format itself is the problem, I think. I wrote up a long thing years ago about how what we need is a vector GSG with a bunch of layers (for political divisions, for terrain shapes, for resources–INDIVIDUAL resources so that the bubbles overlap–for religions, for cultures, for pops, etc.). Then the computer does some multi-variable calculus to add up these overlapping layers and assign a desirability score to any given point on the map. That’s the metric by which an NPC nation bases its expansion desires, etc. As for the user, get this–YOU WOULD BE ABLE TO DRAW YOUR OWN BORDERS. Settling a war could be handled with “warscore” like it always has been. You would draw a line on the map (the game would let you snap to rivers, mountain ranges, lat/lon, or let you draw your own), and the defeated enemy would say yes or no based on the desirability (importance) of the land and resources (and pops) located within the area you drew. No more hideous blobs. Beautiful nations with hand-drawn borders, because you’re drawing it as a vector line. But you would also be managing your domestic affairs this way. Take Victoria II. You have some new land, and it’s a territory. Your primary pops start moving to the region and want to become a state. So you have to draw the new state borders. A big state will make them happy (a lot of resources), but they will take a big organization penalty and all your other states might be mad. A small state MIGHT make them mad, but could also make all your other states mad, because you’d be packing your legislature with extra votes using a lot of small states… UNLESS you also changed the law to make that part of your legislature less important. A small state likely wouldn’t have the resources needed to feed itself or to manage its own industries. It would stagnate and become a financial drain on your nation.

It could work if instead of having tons of tiny cells that all contain their own pop, RGO, etc info, you treat pops, RGO regions, etc as their own separate objects that encompass ranges of coordinates. So all the coal in the Rhine-Ruhr area, for example, could be treated as one object, and then it contains the coordinates that it's present in. A state that controls 35% of those coordinates gets 35% of the coal available from that RGO overall. No weighting, mind you, but you could sort of simulate that by adding additional "rich areas" of RGO or farmland that overlap with common areas, if you find the performance tradeoff worthwhile (and it may be).
You lose a bit of the detailed autism-simulation in Paradox-style games ie this province has exactly this size RGO with exactly this size workers, but you gain in other areas like dynamic borders. Now I'm not a fan of some of the micro-management in a Paradox-style game and would prefer government & geopolitics simulation, so I'd find this more appealing, personally.
For pops I'd say that the lower classes would be simulated in less detail so for example all farmers of a given regional culture, one pop. Then middle classes get separate pops per city. And then the upper classes get many pops to simulate various powerful noble factions and so on, with the elite being represented as minor characters. This way you cut down on a whole lot of pop simulation that has no real effect on the game and just adds workload, and can free attention and resources to dealing with and simulating the more powerful elite and their interaction with the player. Not sure how you'd handle pop density for the "mass pops" but there's probably some sort of workaround.
Move away from cells/provinces and over to coordinates. Army movement would need redesigning (or it could operate on a larger fixed grid) but as far as world simulation goes I think coordinates would work a lot better.

Yeah, that's the part that kills the whole idea with no survivors. Computing how much of an area a state controls and how much shit it gives him could be done (at the cost of massive set-up cost) but the moment we start talking actually changing the borders is when it all goes to shit. The AI would be unable to handle it, every little change to borders would require expensive recomputing for affected countries, and let's not even talk about real numbers shittery stemming from this. Furthermore, your proposed changes would actually make the game itself shittier since you'd essentially block most of the other mechanics. Each addition to the map, such as putting in population density overlays or similar, owuld just further fuck the already abhorrent performance. Your game would need to be casual as fuck

This is not something you'd need to calculate constantly in real-time, however, only when introducing a change of borders. In all other situations you'd have improved performance because you're consolidating resources and populations, so the computer has to do far fewer operations per tick. Instead of calculating the resources produced from five coal provinces in a state each with their own set of Labourer pops you're calculating the resources produced from a single owned coal object by a single labourer pop (or multiples if there are more than one culture in the area - but a Paradox game would have to deal with that too). That means less workload on the computer. Actual changes in "which country / state gets which share of the resource or pops" can be handled when borders are drawn, after that the value (ie how much coal country A is getting as an absolute value based on percentage of controlled coordinates vs total in the coal object) is fixed until there's another change in bordes and it does not need to be recalculated until that time.
Victoria 2's subdivision of pops is well known as being Paradox's own reason for things like auto-assimilation of very small pops and automatic Craftsmen culture assimilation, and that gives us an insight into where the performance bottleneck is: it's in failure to consolidate things like pops and RGOs, which is forced on them by the province structure that their games are designed around.
>Furthermore, your proposed changes would actually make the game itself shittier since you'd essentially block most of the other mechanics.
If you're trying to copy a Paradox game as closely as possible, yeah. But why would you do that if starting from the ground up? Learn from Paradox, sure, they've done a lot in the genre and you should learn from their experience. But they've also made a lot of bad design decisions, or decisions that weren't bad but weren't the best option in hindsight but can't be changed at this point.
> Each addition to the map, such as putting in population density overlays or similar, owuld just further fuck the already abhorrent performance.
You'd already be working with much better performance than a Paradox game by moving away from province container model.

But a change of borders is something that happens near constantly in a game like EU4 or CK2.
>In all other situations you'd have improved performance because you're consolidating resources and populations
Consolidating resources and populations is another word for casualising. Instead of tracking development over different areas of the country (something provinces do), you'd be tracking it just for the country as a whole. That's significantly less simulationist. For example, population growth in some outlying backwater should be smaller than in your capital, something consolidation of it all does not allow.
>Instead of calculating the resources produced from five coal provinces in a state each with their own set of Labourer pops you're calculating the resources produced from a single owned coal object by a single labourer pop
Yeah, that's exactly what I'm talking about. It's literally casualization.

It really doesn't.
>Consolidating resources and populations is another word for casualising.
No, it isn't. The game would actually be less casual because you'd have finer control over where resources are actually located, without a meaningless distinguishment of coal produced in province A or province B that are both part of the same state anyways and which the player will just be carpet-upgrading with railroads.
>For example, population growth in some outlying backwater should be smaller than in your capital, something consolidation of it all does not allow.
Cities are population sinks. Most base population growth happens in agricultural areas, with excess offspring travelling to urban areas for labour. So a more accurate way to model this is for rural populations to grow faster, but to migrate into cities where they take on work as craftsmen or factory workers. It's kind of silly to argue about this when comparing to Paradox titles though, because Paradox has never even approached realistic pop growth mechanics.
>Yeah, that's exactly what I'm talking about. It's literally casualization.
Not compared to having each province produce a single resource, which is what Paradox's province-based structure forces them into (because their games would choke up and run at a slideshow pace if they had to actually model all the goods produced in a given region instead of dumbing it down into HURR GRAIN HERE NOTHING ELSE).

I genuinely don’t understand why. Explain. The only real processing drag in the area you describe would be during wartime where one nation has “occupied” a part of another, and thus receives its resources (call it a large fractional amount of the resources due to revolts in the occupied area). That’s when border splines are moving quite rapidly and have to be recalculated. Otherwise they’re not moving at all. Once the calculations are made, the only numbers that would be changing are the POP numbers and the number of a given religion/culture (which would also mean the bubbles are pushed around).

How about when AI needs to calculate whether to attack or not and is comparing the potential gains versus miltary power of the enemy?
This idea sounds great if I'm being honest but also impossible. The sheer amount of jank produced by it due to movement lines being draw through the terrain, AI calculating the worth of something it wants to grab and the eventual bordergore resulting from strange resource overlaps. Unless you want to kneecap the AI and order it to just make the pretty borders, bordergore will still happen.

Paradox AI doesn't look at potential gains when deciding whether to attack or not (it compares relative power) so I don't see why you're acting as though that's a requirement.

Didn't actually know that, but that would explain some of the more retarded wars over shithole provinces I've seen. Does the AI even consider provinces warscores during the war then? Because that would explain a lot as well.
I assume the occupation area would be dynamic as well, with moving armies having some kind of field of influence that takes areas over, and the armys movement being slowed down by fortifications and fields of influence causing battles and bringing movement to near standstill? Would you consider at least improving the AIs priorization of where to move and when with that complex a system, and how much resources do you think it would take. We are already in land of requiring very powerful computers, so keeping Paradox AI as a baseline would make it even more retarded than usual.

I think warfare implementation would be more dependent on time period so I don't really have an answer to that, unfortunately. An Antiquity setting would have campaigning and fewer direct engagements. A Great War setting would have clear front lines with forces guarding every inch. It really depends on time period and desired style of war.

Haven't been playing for long, but so far it's breddy gud. Miles ahead of Imperator in any case.
>more detailed and much more complex battles (with possiblity of fighting them yourself if you have fields of glory 2, but having the AI handle it is the default approach)
>no mana
>lots of buildings and economy shit, significantly more complex than in parajew games
>every single nation has its custom flavour (haven't played long enough to properly verify it, but it does seem that way so far)
>more decisions than imperator (or EU4, for that matter), with proper flavour and multiple choices
>party popularity, decadence mechanics, population reacting to victories and defeats etc.
<very simplified diplomacy
<turn based
<autistic with army movement
That's my current impression with it so far, at least. Still, I can already say with total confidence that it's much better than Imperator (not that that's particularly hard to be)

Oh shit. No wonder it looked different. What is it? Actually after a small search I guess it is Field of Glory: Empires. A new game by Ageod. I wanted to try their Rome game before, but never really did. It was so lanky it didn't even install properly or something, not sure any more. Seems to be a supposed grand strategy with total war elements? Though from the reviews someone claimed it having worse policy than a Civilization game.

Yeah, I didn't like previous AGEOD games either. They were downright user hostile and buggy as fuck. This one seems remarkably stable and even has a non-shit UI.
>Seems to be a supposed grand strategy with total war elements?
Essentially, every time you go into battle, you can direcly see how it went down, with battle phases, units attacking each other, etc. Dice rolls are used a lot, but unlike EU, different dice with different buffs and penalties are rolled for every single unit rather than for the army as a whole. Army composition, unit tiredness, experience, terrain, etc all play a major role, as well as shit like battle width, fortifications and so on. There is also a way to control the battle directly, but it's more of a bonus on top – if you own Field of Glory 2, you can export the current battle to that game, fight the battle in Fields of Glory 2, and then export it back to Fields of Glory: Empires.
>Though from the reviews someone claimed it having worse policy than a Civilization game.
Haven't played a Civ game since Civ4, so I can't really comment on that.

I read that the multiplayer on this game is done such that all the turns happen simultaneously, so that each player could do their moves on their own time then upload the file to process their turn to whoever the host is (if I remember correctly, details might be off but it works in that basic manner).
This could be potentially perfect for /gsg/ MP sessions since the time we tried to do the HoI3 WWI mod the biggest obstacle was getting schedules to align. With this turn system an MP session could work pretty smoothly where each player would just have to have their turn done every few days/week or so.

Liking this quite a bit so far. AI is really aggressive even on low difficulty – I'm basically never at peace, the AI loves to dogpile even if it cannot beat you on its own. The decadence mechanic then comes in, since you get more decadence the more territories you have, and especially from new, unpacified conquests, meaning I am getting bigger and it's killing me in the long term.

Yeah. Curious thing is, EU3 AI also liked to dogpile, but EU4's doesn't. Wonder why they didn't just copy paste the thing that worked.
As for anti-blobbing, it is sort of like the overextension mechanic in EU4, only it's actually simulationist rather than relying on mana and shit. Blobbing is far easier than in EU4 since if you take it, you own it, but that's kinda accurate for the period, I guess. I like that you get the peace offer breakdown, pic related. Really, it feels like EU4 with less features, but much healthier core. Or like Imperator that isn't dogshit, I guess.

You only really have slave revolts when there is a sudden, massive influx of "newly made" slaves like that revolt in Sicily that Crassus put down, or after natural disasters like that Helot uprising in Sparta after an earthquake.

And that revolt in Sicily was only allowed to get so out of hand because nobody in Rome could be bothered to put it down. No glory or, more importantly, plunder to be had from slaughtering a bunch of slaves in rags.
Also, revolts weren't that big of a thing in Rome because, in general, slaves were not so brutally mistreated. It was considered extremely bad manners to kill your slaves without very good reason, and many slaves usually won their freedom eventually and became clients of their former master, now patron, or simply became ingrained members of the family and enjoyed a reasonably cushy existence.

Looking at the pops afterwards it seemed that the slaves joined the revolt and flipped it.
Decadence is already out of control for me though, it makes paradox blobbing impossible. How do you not have 8+ decadence before getting buildings that give you more?

What I'm worried about is MEIUitis though, they've still yet to make up their kinds how (if at all) to balance civil war/great war 2 but here they are 7 years into a china "rework" and still finding time to squeeze in brand new mechanics, stinks of bloat IMO but if they pull it off good for them I guess.
Glad regardless the team (PBUH) finally made space for Islamic content, Jihad CB when?

Memes aside, HoI4 has strangely low investment from Paradox despite it being by far their most played title, riven with bugs, and having a hodgepodge of gameplay systems that must be hell to >balance. For whatever reason, you go months between what would be basic patches for EU4, DLCs have very little thought put into them, much less mutual compatibility, and the game as a whole is left in a state where it is improved by removing as many of the pseudo-features supposed to advantage it over HoI3 or DH. About the only thing it has going for it are modding capabilities (that mostly only Redditreich utilizes) and ease of organizing troops, but the battleplanner is braindead and requires constant micro if you aren't playing against the special needs vanilla AI.

Progress update. Need to integrate all the pre-existing events and decisions to the stuff I've added.
Also Levantine Christians now have a separate culture to differentiate them from Muslims just like irl, these differences were more stark ~150 years ago before the advent of nationalism/Sykes–Picot bordergore. They're wholly concentrated in the Levant, leaving Iraq and Persia for the Assyrians.

Yes. Added a bunch of subsidiary Persian states like the Mohammerah Emirate, Jelali & Zafaranlu Kurd Emirates (copied from HFM's 1.28 beta) made Manipur and Assam British vassals (Assam was completely annexed in 1838, Manipur in the 1890s) also added the Anazzah Sheikhdom in the Syrian desert and re-added Kuwait with its pre-Saudi war borders. The stuff north of Persia is the rump state of what's left of the Salor Turkmen, before they got annexed by Russia.

Salam a leekum, you're doing the greatest's work brother.
Looking good except the name for the Mashriqi Christians. "Chaldean" is a bit narrow as it only refers especially to one branch (albeit a major one) who're fully in communion with the pope which leaves out the other sects (East/West rite, church of the east, OTHER church of the east, these guys went full Judean People's front before it was cool).
There's a whole bunch of different names for them but as actual Chaldea isn't in their geographical area since Assyrians get their own culture (so they should, they're ethno-religious and deserve distinction) it'd make more sense IMO to swap the culture/region names as "Syriac" is more specific to the Levant where as "Chaldean" is the particular religious branch.
I like Aramean personally but it might be too LARPY.

I spent a whole hour trying to figure out what name should I use before naming them Chaldeans, because the name is inclusive for both (Assyrians and Syrian/Lebanese/Levantine Christians) as is Aramean.
How about renaming "Chaldeans" to "Syriac-Aramean" and renaming their "Syriac" religious branch to "Syro-Antiochian/West Syriac" AND also renaming the "Nestorian" religious branch most Assyrians are part of to "Syro-Oriental/East Syriac" and leaving Maronites as they are since they're pretty much their own thing.
It's kinda fucky but hopefully I think it'll clear up any misconceptions.

Chaldean really doesn't fit right because it's only in reference to one church/one area of lower Mesopotamia, it's like calling Americans Virginians because that's where Washington came from.
Nestorian needs to go because it's an exonym, Maronites are Maronites and therefore pretty much Jews and can stay as they are yeah, West/East Syriac works best since otherwise you'd need 12 gorillion more religions to represent them all and east/west is complicated enough, and it neatly splits the two between whether or no they're filthy fucking heretics ala Council of Ephesus (because the only REAL schisms are pre-millennium as everything else is just ego shittery).
As far as cultures go it's either full autism (Maronites, East Syriacs, Assyrians, West Syriacs, Chaldeans, OTHER Chaldeans, Orthodox Syriacs, Catholic Syriacs) or reasonable contraction, I fucking hate -s but Syriac Aramean is accurate enough though I'd just go AA and call them Arameans since that's pretty much what they identify as (Syriac is a transliteration of Assyrian which is what the Greeks mistook Levantine christucks for way back when the Caliph expelled a whole bunch of them).
Assyrian for north Iraqfags/Aramean for everywhere else, just stick the dividing line vaguely where the old Roman-Persian frontier was and it's golden.

This, the problem is it requires a substantial cultural majority which doesn't work without either heavy-infamy wide scale genocide (locked until 1870) or province based precision genocide / migration that isn't supported in any mod or possibly the game's mechanics altogether, or getting lucky with craftsmen.
Then the event itself has a really long MTTH so it almost never happens especially since MTTH resets if you ever save and reload. And it still relies on you getting lucky with the assimilation events.
I had it happen against me once as Canada with one of the Cascadian provinces the USA held because it had almost no Anglo Canadian pops and massive Yankee immigration/assimilation, and I had it happen for me once as Germany against France on one of the German majority parts of Elsaß-Lothringen (after dozens of Germany playthroughs where it never happened at all). So it almost never shows up.

It should be if you've gotten rid of the nation's pops, but Victoria 2 doesn't have good genocide mechanics unlike say EU4 where you can specifically get rid of minorities on a province by province basis and settle accepted pops in their place.

I'm playing as Greece Not a Byzaboo, just an Ancient Greekaboo and somehow a revolt in Egypt led to the Alexandrian Republic becoming independent in about 1856. They instantly petition me for annexation, but they're added as a state so I'm getting fuckloads of immigration to my beautiful Greece from Egypt. I don't really want to release them as a puppet because there seem to be a few decisions for Greece if they own Alexandria that I'd lose access to.

It's a pretty good start imo. Abbasids are still kicking and independent but not nearly as strong, the HRE isnt formed yet but Central/West Europe arent Karolingian blobs, the Byzantines arent quite as strong as they are in Old Gods start and have the Bulgarian Empire to contend with early game that they cant just holy war away, paganism still abounds but with some rulers in the north starting Christian adding something of an interesting opportunity up there. The only glaring downside about the start is the strength of the Umayyads. They blob harder than ever in my experience in the Iron Century start.
Overall a fun start that has some of the Old Gods/Charlemagne options like pagans with some of the more balanced political landscape aspect like 1066 or later. I'd recommend it if its not too much trouble to pirate

What happens if you just assassinate your illegitimate heirs? Without them to whine about their claims to the throne, will a new pope even care?

Oh! I just remembered that this is the game I'm playing where I do nothing but have babies, marry them off, and then assassinate the families into which I marry for the sole purpose of directly or dynastically owning the map. I wanted to see if it was possible before the end of the game. I take zero foreign diplomatic actions except marriages and defensive pacts (meaning no wartime aggression for land). It's not meant to be realistic.
Incidentally, does anyone know where the file that governs your council positions' actions is? I want to get rid of the cooldown period for religious conversion, since my patriarch is almost always converting successfully long before that time.

Warhammer Fantasy is a great setting, shame CA killed it. It's not as over the top as 40k, and the main human faction is a knockoff Holy Roman Empire in the late renaissance instead of being yet another medieval England clone in technological stasis. If you know a good bit about actual history and ethnic groups you can extrapolate to Warhammer Fantasy and be right 9 times out of 10. Of course it's not like "Araby" and "Nippon" are the most creative names ever.

Other anon already showed how to do it for vanilla (and technically every mod), but there's a couple big mods that have polygamist Christians:
- Insular/Brythonic Christians in WtWSMS have Polygamy, as well as their Pelagian Heresy (granted there's mechanically no difference at all since how do you even model Pelagianism in-game?) Though you'd want to wait since they're updating for the new patch with a map/government rework.
- That post-apocalyptic Murrica mod has it for Strangite Mormons (a ton of Mormons complained to the devs so they gutted it from default Mormonism, the cowards), and if you really want to stretch it Reformed Revelationism kind of counts (which is oddball Appalachian sort-of Charismatic Christianity reconstructed from Revelation and a few snippets of Wisdom books or something to that effect)
Is there a way to add polygamy without altering the religion mechanics? The Merovingians IIRC favoured it and got into disputes with Bishops over it while still being Nicene/Catholic, though I'm guessing the swedes never accounted for that

Maybe there's a way to tie it to bloodlines? It'd work to shackle it specifically to the Merovings and their progeny (since the other 'Barbarian Kingdoms' of their era didn't have that predilection, or at least nothing I've found on them suggests it.), but I have a feeling the Swede didn't make bloodlines that flexible.

That doesn't matter in this case.
Tolkien intended for those stories to be set in a mythological past of Europe akin to the Hyborian age in Conan.
Like other myths it bears no importance if the story fits what we know today.
It is the same for the Babylonian Enûma Eliš or the Greek myths of Kronos "eating" the gods, Hades kidnapping Persephone etc.
