i just got a russian hacked build for 2018 and its fine. i think most of the soul of tf2 really is just multiplayer with "friends". the community has been taken over for years.

Are there any games similar to TF2 today, worth to play? I dont care about Overwatch, and TF2 have go down on quality, but the thing is that it is still a good game to play.

Community servers still exist, though they admittedly are mostly limping along unless you catch them on a weekend.

I just recently tried TF2 again after 5 years. Seems my Degreaser/Reserve Shooter/Axtinguisher combo isn't as effective as it used to be, with knockbacks not keeping enemies in the air nearly as long, costing more ammo, and Axtinguisher only mini-critting and then extinguishing targets. I was also reminded of the joy of being auto-balanced when your team is doing very well.

Unbalanced items. Not going to mention which ones because I know there are class fanboys/competitive shitters here who will argue day and night to the ends of the earth as to why they're favorite class's kill everything weapon should be allowed in the game. Or why a mediocre weapon should be nerfed to oblivion and never used to the point no one even remembers it exists.

Really want to streatch the matchmaking is cancer note because there are a lot of kickers on that.

1) queue by skill isn't a thing, you'll get placed into a game with people of all skill levels anyway (apparetly changed but still flawed because not everyone is a master at all 9 classes)

2) you either steamroll or get rolled on. The game's balance is very off with team stacking being a common sight. No one wants to stay on a server where they are losing, additionally no one wants to kick a hacker when they've been rolled for over 5+ rounds.

3) You will get unbalanced teams by a number of ways but most common is matchmaking adding players in batch of up to 5 players to a single team to make up for 1 player difference causing a 4 player team stack, and people leaving.

4) map pools suck, you will always get the same maps every time because of how the queue is setup. Interesting or inventive gamemodes never get any players simply because they are on the "alternative" list. Or they just don't fucking get listed at all in the case of arena.

5) You'll get added to the same game over and over sometimes. There was a case back when matchmaking got added where i constantly got queued into a game with 5 hacking heavies on the other team camping spawn. I got added to this server about 10 times when looking for games. And of course no one kicked them ever.

Before the matchmaking update i remember faggots screaming that it'd be the next saving grace that will remove auto balance once and for all!!! But guess fucking what? Match making turned out to be so shit that they just put autobalance back in.. But this time EVEN WORSE!!!

The previous autobalance would only balance you to the other team once you have died. And it has been improved quite a bit over the years to get rid of that fabled "last push autobalanced" It was update that if the payload and or cap was close enough to being finish that it wouldn't autobalance you. So most of the grief with autobalance was already gone.

Guess what matchmaking did? At any point of the game, at any time. You can get a message that says you have 5 seconds until being balanced, no option, no after death. Your on the enemy team after 5 seconds.

Doesn't matter if the cap was just an inch away from being pushed while you were on it. YOU WILL BE BALANCED!

it was dead on arrival. There was no way to self host a server and the artstyle sucked ass.

Gameplay was severely lacking in comparison to tribes ascend, the maps were all clustered, movement speed limitations, shitty jetpacks, tribes2 fanboy elitism, a p2w model, generators did nothing, classes meant nothing, the official mode was deathmatch everything else was an afterthought, item servers would crash randomly, and so much more!

The whole shitshow package was there and most people wanted none of it. Game dropped from a few thousand players to just 30 overnight.

The weird thing is that I played TF2 for over 5000 hours and before those weapons got nerfed, I never EVER had a problem with them, despite being matched with and against people who used them multiple times.

The only weapons I legitimately was pissed about at times was the loch n load and direct hit killing scouts with one hit almost no matter what the distance was. I also didn’t like how scummy the axetinguisher + degreaser combo was but considering how weak the degreaser was otherwise at the time, I was willing to forget about that. Of course there was also the phlog which made unskilled pyros a force to be reckoned with, and was OP as fuck despite the lack of airblast.

Be real. There's no fucking reason the Pyro should have gotten a faux-military-styled shotgun that was obviously meant for the Soldier in the first place. And I feel you on the Axtinguisher but the problem with axe wasn't even the item itself, it was the air blast. Air blast always pushed enemies up, no matter which direction you came from, and it made the enemy lose all movement control. All they needed to do was make the airblast push enemies less into the air every time and give air control back after a brief time. Small tweaks. The rest fixes itself.

Compfags - Hardasses who think tf2 is serious business and it can't be fun without strict rules and played to win. No crits, no RNG elements (That shotgun had fucking better be shooting in a grid), no weapons that can change the time to takes to get an uber, no most weapons. Seriously they ban almost every weapon and want them to be as boring as possible. Most also worship a guy called Uncle Dane, far as I can tell he's a figurehead glorifying it and plays engineer.

Meme kids - They love them haha funny youtube boys. Helps suffocate community servers by flooding into bad maps like high tower with 20 towers on top each other, a mile long bridge 2fort, and x10-10,000,000 servers.

Normal people - Very rare. Sadly most still browse reddit a bit much but once in a while you'll find one playing the game just seriously enough to be trying to win but not be mad when he loses, playing because it's fun.

Socialite - Not really a major player but they're all on for friendly servers and other RP servers. Once in a while you'll find one playing a normal game and they're nice though. But odds are they're a mitten bearing heavy trying to feed the enemy team.

I've found a handful of decent community servers at least. There's a payload server that regularly runs pl_pier, the map reminds me of avanti and has chokepoints that somewhat capture the hectic nature of TFC. When I found that server and was greeted by regulars that actually spoke on mic while playing the game, and came back several times to the same people, it was a really nice feeling. I won't say matchmaking was a mistake but the feeling of community isn't something I'd trade for anything in the world.

If you didn't make sure your max hp hadn't returned to full by the time you reach a health source that's your own damn fault.

Fists of Steel is a fair point, it definitely has the same problem as the GRU in that you'll find far more use out of it than the other melees due to it providing a utility benefit instead of expecting you to actually try to melee the enemy.

But you're not going to just stop in the wide open in front of your opposition to use the thing, you'll want to grab cover first. You're making it sound like GRU and Sandvich share the same slot. You can in fact make use of both of them.

You're the one whose suggesting going for medkits. I specifically said "source of health" which can include anywhere that's suitable cover for when using the sandvich.

It doesn't actually matter what the distance is, you just don't have the GRU out the whole way if you don't want to be at less than full max HP when you get where you're going. Bottom line is if you're talking about fighting enemies at low health or talking about actually waiting for your health to return to full then you aren't using the weapon right.
