f3a104  No.16619259

A thread for those of us who haven't moved on to newer systems and are still messing around with this thing.

So, how can I get a PSP to play PSP games?

Used goods stores should be selling them for $40-$60, on average. Or go for a Vita. Either way, you're going to have to spend a little more money, on top of that, because (Baring the state of the system itself with possibly needing to replace components depending on there being any damage) you'll need to either buy one of the proprietary SD cards or an adapter. If you're just looking to play PSP games without necessarily acquiring the system, just download PPSSPP

Okay, how do I mod it?

https://hackinformer.com/PlayStationGuide/

Be sure to overclock your PSP to "333/166" in order to increase performance.

What are some essential plug-ins that should be downloaded?

This is my personal opinion, but I'd advise:

>Game Categories Lite v1.6: http://www.mediafire.com/file/4it5arh4nnrdip8/categories_lite__1.6.zip

This is if you don't like the organization (Or lack there of) with the XMB and would like your apps more organized.

>CFW Folder Blocker: https://mega.nz/#F!KcAQkAzY?HYQAXQLA

Some official games have incompatibilities with PSP running a CFW and the presence of certain folders on your SD card, this is to prevent that from happening.

>CWCHEAT: https://mega.nz/#F!KcAQkAzY?jZQjlACR

For those cheaters out there or for those who want to hack their games. If you plan on transferring PS1 saves between your PSP and your computer, this is required due to the way the PSP saves and loads PS1 memory card files: http://archive.fo/715CC

>CXMB: http://wololo.net/talk/viewtopic.php?t=41302

For those of you who want to spice up the XMB. Here's a pack of themes already made: https://cdromance.com/psp/6-60-ctf-best-themes-collection-download/

>pprefs: https://mega.nz/#F!KcAQkAzY?GJ5hhbqL

A simpler way to enable, disable, add, and remove all your plugins from within the PSP

>PRXshot: https://mega.nz/#F!KcAQkAzY?eMBjgTqI

A simple screenshot tool.

>PSP Power Saver: https://mega.nz/#F!KcAQkAzY?PEQD2QDB

This disables the UMD drive when it is not in use. It really helps with extending the battery life.

>XMB Item Hider: http://wololo.net/talk/viewtopic.php?p=414844#p414844

Another plugin that will help clean-up the XMB by allowing you to remove all those apps and categories that you literally will not use (Such as everything under the Extras, Network, and PSN menus)

>6.60 plugins on 6.61: https://www.lolhax.org/2016/02/14/how-to-6-60-plugins-on-6-61/

This is to help solve any incompatibilities some plugins have with the 6.61 FW.

How do I convert PS1 games so that I can play them?

https://gbatemp.net/threads/guide-to-converting-ps1-games-for-psp.206195/

What emulators can I play on my PSP?

http://emulation.gametechwiki.com/index.php/Main_Page

Now, here's something I want to know, what's the best way to convert videos into a playable format? I found Nick Swardh's old converter, but I'm wondering if there is a newer option: https://ccm.net/download/download-5582-psp-video-converter

Which ones? The only one that I know that needed POPSloader was Jackie 8Chan Stuntmaster.

Even with that, having a better screen, double analogs, and being able to remap buttons to the Touchscreens makes playing PS1 games a lot comfier on the Vita. Also, some games like Skullmonkeys (that don't work on POPS at all) can be played via Retroarch on Vita.

>"… especially since it's a fraction of the price."

*It was.

Those fucking things skyrocketed in price.

I wouldn't be against a handheld general that talked about older systems like the Nomad, PC Engine GT or the gameboy line. I guess the difference is, that vita gen is still going, but even the 3ds general here has died off. I mean shit anything PSP I play on my vita. It's pretty nice because it's just double the resolution.

f3a104  No.16622553

>>16622443

>Which ones?

Apparently all of the games that required POPS on anything below 6.61 are incompatible. So, that leaves it as a very limited list with the only games really being playable are the ones that had an "official" rerelease on PSN (And only compatible with the PSN version). But, then again, all the info I can find on this is several months old, so things could have changed, but I don't know by how much (If at all).

>Also, some games like Skullmonkeys (that don't work on POPS at all) can be played via Retroarch on Vita.

From everything I've found, Retroarch is complete trash on the Vita.

78a4ea  No.16622664

>"From everything I've found, Retroarch is complete trash on the Vita."

Unfortunately, that's mostly true.

Genesis/NES/GB games at least run fine on it, but the lack of decent GBA and SNES emulation is suffering.

Not necessarily. I think there's enough interest in PSP games for Vita users given the backwards compatibility, and it's not a lot extra to document PSP alongside it, OP seems to know his stuff. The only real missing thing is a games list.

Psp is a solid device. I used it on the night shift for many years, went thru most of the rpg games, though I found them limited in scope, quality and number– though I blamed the technology for a lot of that. Card games like MGS Ac!d and Neverland Battles actually were my most memorable games, they were perfect comfy for the device. Silent Hill had a few titles, one I liked a lot and was impressed by– gave it a SH1 feel and look. Overall, think of the PSP as a tool. I used the Internet radio app so much it paid for itself just for that at the time. Don't even get me start on fapping.

Neither for the PSP tbh

>>16622443

>Which ones? The only one that I know that needed POPSloader was Jackie 8Chan Stuntmaster.

From my extended tests (compression level 1), I could also list

>Heart of Darkness (corrupted on the title screen)

>Bugs Bunny Lost in Time (black screen past the language selection)

>Looney Tunes Sheep Raider (audio desync and massive slowdown upon pressing the button to make Coyote run)

>Hokuto no Ken: Seiki Matsukyu Seishi Densetsu (the game freezes after some bandit cry ”水!” in the first cutscene)

>Kojin Kyouju La Lecon Particulière (white screen after the PS1 boot sequence)

I've posted a whole bunch of PS1 custom eboots (that I tested for a few hours each) on the Vita general thread which also should work on a PSP. But Vita users are truly stuck with the incompatibility of the affected custom eboots

>>16622664

SNES emulation runs great on Vita, I have no idea where those claims come from. I go for the classic 2005 core by default (not the plus one) while some titles will run better on the 2002 core (like Yoshi's Island or Super Mario RPG). However, I can agree GBA emulation is mostly a miss on Retroarch Vita because of the audio stuttering affecting many titles. One GBA rom, Sonic Advance 2, even managed to trigger an actual Vita GPU crash when I tried to activate the retroarch UI mid-game. I havent tried yet the dedicated GBA emulator originally for the PSP although I've heard from a few users that it is better optimized than the Vita apps. Also my experience of the PS1 core on Retroarch was rather disappointing in the sense that the core would stop functioning if the Vita was ever put to sleep during emulation. No idea if they ever fixed that in the latest stable build.
