Why did DooM fans hate this game for Procedural Generation? Arent there Rogue-like Mods for Doom anyways? It's not even like this game has bad procedural generation either. over 20 weapons, huge map variations past the first 3 levels, incredible difficulty curve, game modifiers that add infinite replayability to it. What made this game so hated?

There are three primary weapons, which is what you will be using for >90% of your kills. Only one of these is actually good (machinegun), and only one upgrade for said actually good weapon is worth using (tri-shot).

PG is a horrible system for level design and you really can't get around that. Even games I like such as Ziggurat have terrible levels because of this.

You can't procedurally generate well made levels that flow smoothly.

Yes, but they have the same problems. OBLIGE allows you to generate entire megawads, but those megawads really aren't great.

I like Ziggurat too, but STRAFE actually does it alot more naturally than a Grid based layout. its alot less predictable and there arent any obvious "there would be a door here if it were generated" sections

Procedural map generation has never been good. Historically you have RANDROTT, SLIGE, and whatever was used to make Daggerfall's "mating octopi" levels. Even more recent examples like OBLIGE don't produce anything great. Such maps are fun for a bit of a break from the traditional well known mapsets, but an entire game of them is just tiresome. Also mods like DoomRPG, Lithium, and such, they just add RPG elements, NOT Roguelike ones, while DoomRL Arsenal is purely a weapon and monster mod that borrows elements from DoomRL.
