I wish I was kidding, Hudson/NECs old (and gold) system is getting the mini console treatment, with a few solid games already shown off and 3 SKUs (why the core?) I'm pretty doubtful about this one. Unlike the upcoming Genesis classic which has emulation provided by M2, this being from Konami has the utmost odds of being a lazy cash grab with minimal effort. Also the Turbografx16 is like 2/3rds smaller than the real thing so it's still huge.

There's a lot of really good ones. Honestly it's hard to go wrong with just playing a game that has a cool name. Try Shockman, Bonk games, Air Zonk, Lords of Thunder, City Hunter, Last Armageddon.

No, it wasn't. It beat the shit out of the Famicom and the Mega Drive in Nip land (held its ground as the number two console behind the Super Famicom thanks to the CD-ROM add on). It was a flop in America due to NEC being retarded and releasing it a few weeks after Sega released the Genesis.

It was a rather weak hardware in some ways. Its video chip could only do one background layer, so it took some trickery to do parallax scrolling that other systems could do easily. That's why some games like Keith Courage look so flat and unimpressive.

It was originally intended to compete against the NES though. Because of the Genesis and later the SNES it had to compete against those two consoles instead. It was a great little console but unfortunately didn't do well in the US thanks really to the poor marketing and limited release. I'm sure had more effort been put into it for the US it could have did a lot better but then again I was way too young to even know anyways when it released. I enjoyed playing it a lot as a kid depsite also having a Genesis and SNES which admittedly were better.

First time I played any TG-16 game was Air-Zonk on my cfw 3ds thanks to a .cia dump on the share thread, I liked it. I also played a lot of it's version of Jackie Chan's Action Kung Fu. I played the fuck out of the NES version way back and this version is great, hard as balls also.
