I'm satisifed just with this. The quality of life stuff like the beastiary seems cool, even if i already had a mod for that.

Also, knowing re-logic since they decided to drop 1.3.6 update in favor of calling it 1.4 there will probably be a shit ton more items and other fluff added which will give it a bit more progression.

Overall seems great.

The only game of this year I'm looking forward to, and it's just an update. A fuck huge one, but still.

d25086  No.16576741

>>16576331

It's a sandbox game, but it does have a very linear progression to it. as of 1.3, no clue if the ladder will change

Normally this is done by doing what is called pre-hardmode (everything before Wall of flesh) which is probably what your used to in terraria (mining ore, getting upgrades, using caveman tier weapons and fighting a huge eyeball)

After you pass pre-hardmode you will be in hardmode where the progression starts tilting more towards boss drops then cavemining (but there still is mining, it's just a lot faster)

The most clear representation of this climb is pickaxe power, where it raises the bar on what materials can be mined which progresses throughout the game.

As an example, the pickaxe axe has 200% pickaxe power and is craftable once you bear all the mechanical bosses, it allows you to progress from hallow to chlorophyte.

This is very much a wiki game. A lot of the good shit is crafted or achived in a way that might not be given directly to the player, while you can goto the guide and see what can be crafted with a given item, it says nothing of boss or enemy drops. Like the rod of discord, one of the best items in the game but yet it's only clear documentation is from the wiki.

Disappointing. They could've added some simple extra shit into bossfights, like small enemies or projectiles that are moving all around or something increasing the amount of things you have to avoid. I never waste my time mining for crap in hardmode, I just fish a ton of crates before the wall and then open them up once it's defeated. The other thing that forces me to do this is I find intolerable how breaking an altar spawns random corruption/hallowed in the world, I need to be able to keep that shit under control. When chlorophyte becomes important I just build myself mud farms for it; it's way too tedious to look for the amount of chlorophyte you need spawned naturally in the jungle.

They're really milking this thing, if that's a word that can describe it. It got old for me a long time ago, these updates just don't make me want to replay it, not after they added the grindy farmy padding mode called "hardmode", the awful fishing feature and the sea of tacky invasion events instead of improving on the game's formula - namely fucking spelunking, exploring and looting which dies halfway into the game.

Terraria just needs a sequel at this point, hopefully one with better and more meaningful progression without a wave of poor afterthoughts.

It was peculiar that people aren't talking about incoming games so I looked up the PC games trailer and found out why.

Nothing was interesting, from EA, Bethesda to Ubisoft. Nintendo is still good at doing their own thing, but everything else felt lackluster.

Terraria otoh, isn't that much of a surprise, because it's been announced long before already, although I'm just glad that it's soon gonna conclude so they could start working on their next game.

I would put this in the e3 thread but I know it would be ignored because of the shills assigned here instead of at cuckchan. Creativity in games is slowing down and people know it. This is the combined result of several things that can be boiled down to a few:

> publisher mandates to rehash, induce stagnation, and appeal to the lowest common denominator because even though that's guaranteed sales in the short-run, the method of that appeal eventually loses its intrinsic appeal - circular stagnation

> related to previous; no or barely any mid-low budget experimental titles to test the waters because everything has to be a AAA franchise-spawner

> SJWs in gaming, nuff said

> Older and recent games that are still on the market or are alive through varyingly-active communities

I never miss the chance to say this: there are less and less franchises active these days than 10 years ago and especially 10 years before that. Not every game needs to spawn a franchise, but it says so much how game series have consolidated into possessing the same core mechanics, style, "feel," and so many other things. We haven't escaped the mockery that was GenericFPS.jpg, as that extends to basically every genre now.

10 years ago this problem was mentioned so many times but those people and the obscure journalists that did say it are gone and replaced by SJW filth and shills. Every e3 will be less and less exciting as publishers spin their wheels not willing to allow more than AAA rehashes, SJWs SJWing, and people realize their favorite game already exists but you have to install a few patches to make it compatible. The amazing thing is that this effect can be seen in movies and TV shows. There's only so many times you can hype something up and deliver a rehash. Then something with 0.001% novelty pops up, plebs led by shills hype it, that novelty is run into the ground and the effect worsens in the long run.

Terraria's engine is limited, a second game could improve the engine, then it'd be better.

Basically, why haven't we seen any mods that have some structures that AREN'T on the world, but can be accessed through the world you're in?

Someone tried it, but it broke down the game, as it's not really possible in the current engine.

This was just an example of what the engine can't do.

It wouldn't be a terrible idea to make a sequel.

Also fuck Terraria Online forum mods for banning me all those years ago.

I wonder about the skills of that guy.

The main difference between an engine that's designed to support it and one that isn't, is that you need to do move around more things from more places manually instead of having everything packed as a convenient blob of "world state" data or whatever that you can swap between.

Doing it would require extensive knowledge of the engine and more effort than your typical "new boss monster and items" modder, but it shouldn't be impossibly hard. I'd like to hear the precise reasons why it's supposedly so difficult.

If that's the case wouldn't this be an issue with tmodloader? Their responsible for providing the api after all..

If writing down crafting items and station can be faster than looking them up a second time, there is an issue.

One option to fix this would be to divide items into categories and filter out only certain categories. The box selection screen posted earlier would be an option, but conflicts with the design philosophy of leaving the center of the screen free so you can always play with the inventory on. If there were a toggle to switch between the box version and the original this wouldn't be an issue. With the box inventory, required items and station can be displayed below the box without problems.

The main problem with the guide is that you have to run over to him every time you want to look up something so minor.

That, and the perfect solution already exists in the form of a mod named "Recipe browser" A single bindable hotkey you can bring up at any time with a good ui that allows both instant look up for a signle item's recipes and those you have yet to get.

All other solutions, such as the retard who recommended a fucking hover menu were pretty retarded.

>got to hover over the item every time you want to see whats needed to craft it

>will instantly case a lot of back and forth where you're getting items from chests and rechecking what item is needed

>not just having a single window that shows all the time and doesn't need a fucking npc to use

The game tried, but it had difficulty keeping up with the volume. Finally it stopped trying to evaporate the water off, and just had screenfuls of water vanish every 90 seconds or so. The last batch vanished right as I was high up in the middle of a large room, fell to my death. Ocean is bone dry now, and very little water remains on the path down.

On the plus side, with the exception of the few areas where lava is pouring in, most of hell is currently coated in stone.

The only thing that can mine through that place's walls is dropped by the boss of that place. There is a definite entrance, but it's locked for now. Though it's still worth it to find it since you'll have to eventually anyways and, as you've found, the chests you find while exploring the dungeon have useful stuff for you right now.

The Honey Dispenser is a crafting station for Honey furniture. Combine Water and Honey to make Honey Blocks to get started. If you have't found Honey yet then keep looking around the Jungle. That search is also worthwhile at your current level.
